Tough to write.. I have owned property in Whittier for decades "Project Red Oak Hardwood Floors original to 1940's home to Light Oak coloring" .. (Live in OC)...I have never been into this store but passed for years.. Went into the store Tuesday June 11, 2024 met the owner seems to be a very sweet Man. I was referred by a wholesale Galleher (Santa Fe springs) I was told (twice) by Galleher that the product "Bona red out" was in stock at the Santa Fe Location and that Classic was the local Retailer I could buy from (It should be noted I needed approx. $1000. worth of this product so this was not a $10 order). The owner said he would have his Wife call me at 10am and they would deliver or I could pick up product.. (I was crystal clear and showed him exactly what I wanted as I prepped my floors and was ready to apply product. I was called me at 3pm.. and sounded confused and honestly not professional at all. She asked me what type of Polyurethane I would require saying that they had over a dozen choices, when I asked what she recommended she said she had no idea? Very unprofessional and for a flooring place with over 20yrs experience in a old town like Whittier?. I am a "take charge" guy, once 10am passed, I figured they were not calling me. I found a place on the west side of Los Angeles (yes a hour away) jumped in my car after the person on the phone said they had everything in stock. They even gave me suggestions on how to use the product (Bona Red Out). The place I went to was in order and also been in business for decades but difference it's run like a business not a hobby... Probably nicest people on the planet, if you don't believe me go into the place and look around. I try to support Mom and Pop shops but this place was not helpful for my project, see my pics below to see what I achieved. Over the years, I have engaged Classic Carpet & Tile for many of my home projects requiring carpet and/or tile replacement. Two of my previous projects included Italian Tile installation in my kitchen in my Whittier home and Spanish Tile installation in my kitchen, bathroom, and balcony decks and carpet replacement in the living room and bedroom in my Westwood condominium. The results for both were superlative at highly competitive prices. Most recently, I was replacing the concrete entryway to my Westwood condominium lobby. During the excavation of the existing lobby entrance, we encountered an unexpected obstacle: a 6' by 15.5' area that was part of the building foundation and hence could not be excavated or replaced. Covering the foundation with a thin layer of concrete would only lead to immediate cracking. We had to come up with a viable alternative rapidly because we had published the project timeframe to the residents. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I called Classic Carpet & Tile immediately and shared with them pictures of the Lobby marble which we wanted the entryway to compliment. Within a matter of hours, Mary had come up with three alternatives: two Travertine Porcelain tile examples and one Marble example. For durability and safety, she highly recommended the lighter Travertine Porcelain tile, selected the matching grout color for the tile, and then suggested that we use sandstone for the concrete color.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Realizing that she had an innate sense for color, I went with her suggestion. Owing to the aforementioned time constraint, Herman drafted a sketch of the installation and then engaged a crew to complete the job in the next two days. The result was brilliant: simple but elegant. Needless to say, Classic Carpet & Tile is on my "go-to" list for all such projects. This project was to remove old backsplash in the kitchen and replace with new but at the hood exhaust area we wanted it to go all the way to the ceiling. Pros: The owners are great and knowledgeable about flooring. You walk into the store and you will see a HUGE selection of flooring! They are responsive and quick to assist you. Cons: They are pricey; the quote I received was the highest of the few quotes I received (including Lowe's!) Another negative thing was that they charged me $75 to come to my home to give me an estimate. I live a couple cities away from them. They went to my friend's home (in Whittier) for free, which is understandable, but it shouldn't cost more than a tank full of gas to drive a couple cities away. read more
