So I threw the request out to the void, and Claropool answered. I described the strange situation I was seeing with the pool filter and level of suction. Well - apparently Stephen has a PhD in pools, and walked through a diagnostic plan that **I** can do (for free) to determine a solution. An incredible breath of fresh air- to not just bill for a house call, and then try to sell me on some fake cure. TL;DR- He gave me the tools to potentially fix it my self - I need acid wash and plaster fixes - and he certainly will get my business for any future pool repair - the value of helping me for free wants me to give him ALL my business. I have had the pleasure of Claropool service my pool consistently for the past couple of years. As is the case with so many businesses, there will be a wide variance of experiences. One person may say the owner, Stephen, "talks a good game", another may say he "has a lot to say" and then others have nothing but the highest praise for him and his team. It makes it challenging to know what to think. Who's right, who's wrong (including me). These are all opinions, nothing more and nothing less (yes, again, including me). So, all I can do is relate my own personal experience and tell you how I approached working with Claropool. When I met Stephen, I spent a significant amount of time talking with him. I considered it an interview. I had gone through four other companies over the first year of our pool and each one ended in disappointment. I tried individuals who had their own company. I tried individuals who had said they had multiple certifications. Nobody came close to following through with consistency of procedures that allowed me to have one less homeowner headache. So, when I met with Stephen, I encouraged him to explain his approach to pool service and maintenance. I wanted him to talk... and indeed he is more than willing to talk! He is a wealth of knowledge and when he tells you how he will care for your pool it is initially impressive. So much so, that you might wonder if he will be able to deliver. When I asked him about his business philosophy and how he treats the people he employs it was equally impressive. Well, I took a chance. It's two years later and I can whole-heartedly say I would not work with any other company. He's not perfect... and he is the first person to say that. He prides himself in putting systems in place to maintain a consistency of care. I sincerely respect his desire to continue to find ways to innovate and improve. Have I had issues, yes. Have they been resolved, yes. And to be completely up front, your not going to be hiring the cheapest company. He will do his best to be competitive to the industry, but when you take the time to speak with his employees you find out that they stay with him because he knows how to treat people and reward good work. He takes care of his employees and they remain. My own guy has been with me since the day I joined Claropool and he genuinely enjoys working for them. I'll sum all this up by simply saying, take the time to have a good conversation with Stephen, let him know what your expectations are, and at the end of the day use your best judgement to see if you believe he is the guy you want to work with. Stephen and his associate came out to my home in La Quinta to give me an estimate for a jacuzzi repair and maintenance. I was not impressed, he however is very impressed with himself and spoke of how he went to law school?? .. After our meeting he sent me a docusign. I have a LONG email chain with him in which I decline signing or his service. This was back last January. He sends me an invoice in February for work done. There was no work done. I called and told them to cancel the invoice. Fast forward to last month when I receive a nasty email explaining he put a mechanical lien on my home for $160.00. Steve the owner is a salesperson and talker. We purchased a new home and inherited his pool service which we continued. The pool was not maintained properly by his team. When he visited and I questioned the issues, he blamed the previous owner. When I scheduled repairs, after months of not hearing anything, his team made things worse. The communication is a bunch of lip service and there is no proper operational execution in this business. They do poor work and blame the homeowner for issues. I would not use them, especially if you require any kind of repairs or work to be done beyond just basic cleaning. Even then, I wouldn't count on them not breaking something and then never following up to ensure it gets repaired properly. read more

I had the same experience that several other reviewers did. Stephen talks a good game, but he is careless in providing answers to questions about the pool. Or just does not answer. He just dos not walk the talk very well. And he chose to keep a month of service fees, which he collected after I cancelled him. Stephen and company are the ONLY people in the Coachella Valley who tell you the services they will perform...and then actually do them. Week in, week out the techs show up, do their job professionally and send you a note explaining what they did and what chemicals the pool needed. We moved here in Feb. 2022. The pool guy that came with house spent 7 minutes max from the time he turned onto our street to the time he left it. The pool gear and the pool needed much deferred maintenance. The entire house for that matter, but the pool gear was put back into perfect operation thanks to Stephen and the great staff of techs at ClaroPool. I wish other companies would be like this one. I called these people to schedule an appointment to look at my pool equipment as the pressure gauge went to 30 and it should be at 12-15 lbs. She took my name address and phone. I even gave her the gate code to our community. She said she would give this to a service rep. I gave her the information of our neighbors across the street so they would get credit for the referral. Two days went by and no call. My neighbors were quite upset and called them. They stated they have no record of me calling. I called them and then came every excuse in the book. They are the worst. They need to have a logbook and some training. My neighbors almost quit their service because of padding and charges they did not ask for. I called a more reputable company.in La Quinta. read more

I would love to have given this company a rave review and after reading some of these reviews it makes me wonder if it's the same company...it is! I just wish that they had followed through with the work they were scheduled to do for us. Being new home owners here in the desert we were excited to have gotten such great reviews for Claro. We had a great inspection from Steve. His energy and knowledge was very persuasive and so we decided to use them for our repair and continued service. We booked the job months ago and I was in constant touch with their office. We had agreed on a proposal, scheduled the work for the first week of November and they never showed up, never returned phone calls, kept telling me that Steve had to get back to me and he never did! No one did! To this day no response. Totally ghosted! I don't know why or what happened but I am so disappointed in the lack of communication and while I was looking forward to working with Steve on the project and developing a continuing relationship, I had to hire a different company and since decided to do a complete renovation. We started with Claro about 1 1/2 years ago when my pool man for the previous 13 years retired. It is our 2nd home in Rancho Mirage. The pool cleaning appeared to be fine. But we were not pleased with their maintenance support. A year ago, I needed a replacement pool sweep. I have a very small pool and I trusted them to buy an appropriate sweep. For my very large pool in Woodland Hills, my pool man bought a pool sweep for $300 that does a great job. Claro bought a pool sweep for $568. Since I had automatic pay, he had already charged it so I accepted it. I sent him an email that he was no longer authorized to charge my account for any repair over $100 without my pre-approval. In September 2020, I contacted Claro about a missing flap at the vacuum intake inside the pool. His regular pool cleaner could do the job in 1 minute and the part can be bought for $22. When I got my next bank statement, I found out that he charged it for $154 for the repair, despite my written instructions not to do any repair over $100 without my approval. I objected and I told him to reverse the charge until we discuss the situation. Even though the charge was never reversed and Claro was paid in full, Mr Little became very upset and said that he was going to put a lien on the house for $386. I have no idea where that number came from. I canceled the service immediately. When I hired my next door neighbor's pool man that day, he told me that he would have done it for free as part of the normal service. My WH pool man said the same. Then the new pool man showed me that I had leak caused by a motor running to hot. Apparently the skimmer basket was not put back in and the internal system had a leaf buildup that caused the problem. Well from what I can tell the reason why there are only 2 other reviews is because they keep changing their name which is suspicious to begin with. Yes, the owner Steve is a slick talker he will promise you everything and as nice as he is and as much as you want to like him he will deliver nothing unless there is an expensive repair that he can make money on. He does not have one good employee they are all absolutely terrible. He was servicing my 2 rental houses in the desert and The guys that actually come out to the property will spend a few minutes - no more than 5 - at the pool and leave. If there's an issue, if there's anything wrong, these guys have no way of knowing or diagnosing. After blowing me off and not responding to me asking for them to help with making sure the pools were online, the answer was it was my responsibility or the responsibility of my guests to inform them when my pool was not working properly. I know it's hard to find good service vendors out here, but they are just not good enough. read more

We purchased a variable speed pool pump from this company three years ago. When it stopped working, we called them to repair it. While they were quick to come and diagnose the problem, they were adamant about selling us a brand new pump for $2,000 when the repair on the existing was less than half that (since the pump was just outside it's 3 year warranty). They flat out refused to repair the equipment they promoted and installed just three years ago. Instead we found another company to come and complete the needed repairs. It is disappointing that they refused to stand behind what they sold and instead tried to give us a pushy sales pitch on a whole new pump that wasn't even necessary. I called this company because I was not happy with my current pool service. This company has made such a difference in the quality of my pool. They introduced me to an automatic pool cleaner, Zodiac, and changed the additives, and my pool is beautiful. The Zodiac cleaner I originally purchased got a hole in it, it was still under warranty, so I called Clark pools, spoke with Eli, and he took care of everything. He basically did everything for me. Sent me the link to send in my warranty, which he had filled out completely, well I had to add my serial number, and then used a part from his in store inventory, to fix my item so I wouldn't be without it for too long, then had the company replace the part he had used. The owner Stephen is a very slick talking salesman.  Actually seems like a nice guy.  But he promises the world and then under-delivers.  He promised me twice weekly pool cleanings and said his workers would be there around 30 minutes each time.  They were consistently there for 5 minutes max.  They took advantage of me not living there full time.  I have cameras that would show when they came and left.  When I complained, he would apologize and send someone to actually clean the pool.  And then said he was providing extra service---no, sorry but coming back to do the job that was not done in the first place is not "extra service".  It is what I was paying for.   The last time they came, they clogged my pool pump.  The pool was so filthy and instead of using their portable vacuum system they used my pump to run it and didn't clean the piles of leaves and debris from the pump when they left.  Luckily I had called the new service because the pump sounded weird and my waterfall from the spa wasn't running. He came immediately and cleared it or it would have burned my pump out.   Just terrible service.  Nothing but excuses. read more

Worst customer service experience I've ever had ! The owner is so condescending and extremely rude not only to customers but to his employees. Don't make the mistake of doing business with him. He owns Pool Shoppe and I have purchased here before multiple times. I have had bad experiences on 2 separate occasions and both involving a return/exchange. I attempted to do an exchange and just got a memo that said credit on top. It looked suspicious to me that the "memo" wouldn't show the last 4 of the card it was going to. He was already being extremely rude and was angry so I did not trust that the transaction was legitimate. I asked that since I paid with debit if I could get a cash refund. I was yelled at and humiliated in front of all his employees. I was told that I was a thief and was just trying to be fraudulent. I've never been treated like this by anyone! I was shaking, infuriated, and very upset. He then kicked me out of his store and told me I was banned from ever coming back. I truly feel this was a racist issue. I think this man has anger issues and I truly believe my ethnicity has something to do with it. He told me to keep the product and to never come back and as I'm leaving the store he storms out the door yelling at me that I was a thief and that he would file a lawsuit. He also mentioned that he was an attorney. He said I was "the type of person who looks for free stuff." I've purchased multiple things for my pool this season and just for attempting to return a pool light that cost $20 and didn't work and months later trying to exchange the powder bleach for tablets I was treated like a thief.
