I never imagined I would be writing a review for a lumber company. The fact that I am hopefully…read moreresonates and speaks volumes about my experience at Savemore. One thing I realize as I grow is how business has changed literally everywhere, especially when it comes to personalized customer service. This is a thing that appears to be gone in the big box stores like Home Depot and Lowes stores. Being that I am Transgender, perhaps I worry about this factor a bit more than others because I am in a class of people that is not the common everyday people. Maybe you would not think it matters but it REALLY does. There are many people and probably a majority of people that do not yet understand so some people can be rather standoffish, confused or even very rude. In fact, most people haven't figured out how to address trans people yet. It is sad but it is true. Because engaging with people can be awkward at times, I have gotten used to cracking a quick joke or two about myself during this process to more or less get this out in the open, add levity or even remove the elephant in the room. It seems to work well for me. I looked at my Sales Associate and said, "Yall must not have many Trannys come in off the street to buy lumber." He looked at me and said, "No, we really don't. In fact I have never met one before." We both got a pretty good laugh and he really became great to work with and treated me with respect. My Sales Associate was a young man named Brett Burdick. When I entered Savemore and after a friendly greeting, he offered to help me with the long and arduous task of planning a rather huge deck. I was struggling with a rather crude illustration I had made to explain what I needed to assemble my project, Brett smiled, took my drawing and said, "Let me help you with that." He began clicking away at the computer and after a slightly uncomfortable and silent five minutes, he handed me back a printout of building materials I would need with a price and everything. I was so relieved, the printouts even included screws, lag bolts and flashing. He had thought of every detail and it was under my budget. This was absolutely paramount to me as I barely knew what I was doing and as you can probably guess, this was a very intimidating process for me. In my mind, Mr. Burdick really stepped up to do his job at the risk of fellow employees perhaps assaulting him with bad tranny jokes after I had left the store. This is just a reality and these things happen more than you can imagine. I think it is just a way for people to deal with something they don't see on a daily basis. I thanked him for a good experience, for treating me so well and most of all for making me feel like a human being. It turns out Brett Burdick's family owns this company. A very good company with a very friendly culture. This really is huge because as you know, in any organization culture breeds from the top down and all the employees at Savemore reflect Brett's friendly and helpful attitude and I would never shop for lumber or building supplies anywhere else again. Even if Home Depot was cheaper which it really is not, the service I continue to get from Mr Burdick and staff is simply worth more to me than being ignored at Home Depot. I could go on and on about this company but they is so many hours in a day. This is an important review because I feel like I made a good friend that day and smaller companies like Savemore are getting rare. I really hope everybody sees this and goes in to buy from the Burdick family and continues to support this family built business.You will be glad you did. If you run into Brett Burdick, please tell him Breezy, his new Tranny friend sent you in. I am confident you will both chuckle and you will have a great experience at Savemore Lumber. One thing to stood out to me is how quickly they were able to get the jobs done. Jeremy, the owner, is very good at coordinating the various workers so there was very little waiting time during the project. He moves the project along quickly and does very good work. Another thing to stood out to me is the quality of his drywall work. My basement has a rather peculiar texture pattern, but his guy was able to perfectly match the pattern, and his seams and taping were so clean that there's no way to tell there was ever any work done. The shower he remodeled for me turned out very well. He was even able to relocate an exhaust fan, expand the size of the shower, and the quality of the tile & grout-work came out very well. Next year I plan to use Amason All Around again to remodel my two downstairs bathrooms.

He started this job and completed it in 9 working days, taking no days off, just kept grinding it out, mostly hand labor. He stared every day at 7:00 and worked till 4:00 or later every day. They lied on quotes, stating that the roofing materials the insurance company was requiring did not meet code. They negotiated with our insurance company but when the final bill was presented, they had cut corners, not performing all of the line items on the insurance list, referring to the insurance estimate when it benefitted them and said things were not in their contract with us when it didn't. The owner of the company, is an unethical contractor who does shoddy work. I would warn anyone considering doing business with him to run away fast.

I am sad to say my experience with ABBA and it's owner, Jeremie Bird, was nothing less than a headache. After I agreed to their bid for the project Jeremie tried to up-sell me on materials and increase the bid amount by $850. He tried to change the project, trying to convince me the job bid was different from what I had initially asked for, and got me to agree to an additional $350. When I rechecked the original contract and confronted him later, he tried to tell me it was a "miscommunication" despite the fact that I had quotes for the same project from four other companies. I had miscommunicated nothing. I gave Jeremie the option to honor the original project, or reduce the overall cost of the bid if the project was done his way. Jeremie chose to do the project as originally bid and so had to undo some work. I paid a lot of money for this project and while the majority of the work done was adequate, it was also quite poor in some areas, if not downright shoddy. For example: There are visible screw heads in the sheetrock where no mud was applied. An electrical box was detached and only re-attached at my request. There are areas of sheetrock that were cut so crooked - I'm going to have to apply trim to hide the poor work. A large gap in the sheetrock was left in the ceiling and only closed in after I pointed it out. The light fixtures that were working before the work began were removed by the sheet rocker and were not put back. At the point I signed off on the work, I simply didn't want to have anything more to do with ABBA due to the headache. I re-installed my lights and they do not work. I also noticed there is a strip of sheet rock simply missing. When I asked for this to be fixed ABBA said "there is nothing we can do. We have gone above and beyond to take care of you." I wish I had seen the last review before I agreed to have ABBA do subpar work. I would not recommend him or ABBA to anyone. :(
