Unfortunately, my old house has knob and tube and for any new fixtures etc we've had to call people out since it's against code (and just plain unsafe) to mess with knob and tube. Knob and tube doesn't work like newer wiring and there's no rhyme or reason why it goes where it does. THAT would be why the guy was banging on Sally's walls. He was trying to figure out the run pattern and where the wiring actually was. They are the only electrician I have used and they have also been great with my clients I recommended them too (I'm a realtor and know many tradespeople). As with anything on here, ymmv, but I don't think it's fair to hit a small family-owned business (at least two generations, maybe three) for something just because you don't understand the specifics of what they are doing. They treat their people well, do great work, and I'm having them back to my house in a few days to give me a quote for removing all of the knob and tube. Isn't that what's supposed to matter? How they actually are doing their job? It's also a Union shop which is important to me, although I've found their prices to be closer to the non-union shops in town. I endorse them heartily, and without reservation.

The work was done in mid-October -- Statement came dated December 31 -- and it arrived in mail early January -- and was marked Past Due. I had to call them to come back early November for a switch that fell off (that switch had been fine before they came in October) and I was charged a second service fee. They reduced a portion of it after I complained but people shouldn't have had to complain. It should have been right the first time. What about all those people who don't complain. I will definitely never hire them again.

Guy gets there, immediately makes up his mind that my detectors are faulty because they are old. Does a simple check for CO at the heat exchanger exhaust and the outlet into the ducts and comes up with a low CO reading. 20 mintues later, I'm $240 lighter with no real answer as to what happened. I checked my CO detectors later and they were working. So... I paid $240 for a half-assed, incomplete diagnostic by a monkey with a 5-gas analyzer. If I did that as an auto mechanic, I would be through. Do yourself a favor and call another company.
