We bought my daughter a wedding dress at Anthropologie. It was beautiful but not exactly what she wanted. She's very creative and had a vision of how she wanted it to look. Clara saw her vision and made it come to life. The sleeves became a bodice, extra lining was added and the slit was not as high. Clara had as much fun with this alteration as my daughter did, expressing her joy as it evolved. Thank you for a wonderful experience... beyond our expectations. read more

I bought a qipao (Chinese traditional wear) to wear to my rehearsal dinner. I struggled to find a place that would alter it at a reasonable price and do a good job, and ended up at Clara's. She WAY surpassed my expectations!! She was so kind and easy to work with, and she did an amazing job with my dress!! It fit me perfectly after she worked on it, and she got the job done so quickly as well. highly recommend! read more

Clara did a fantastic job with my wedding dresses. I bought my 1st dress as a part of a sample sale as a size 10. (I am a size 0-2) Not only was the dress way to big, it was a drop waist, which I did not like. Honestly, I only liked the material (satin). I brought it to Clara to basically re-make the dress. These are the things I had her do: -Take it in from a size 10 to a 2 -Move the waist up about 5 inches -Make it a sweetheart neck instead of straight across -Make the back dip down We had 3 appointments/fittings and she completely changed my dress. It fit perfectly and looked beautiful!!! I was so amazing by her work. I had her work on my reception dress as well. It was a Chinese style dress (fitted). I ordered it custom; however, they messed up the measurements and it was very tight at the hips (to the point where I could not sit). The material had 0 stretch and it was beaded and had sequins. Clara was able to take the waist in and let the hips out. She did a great job! She also does not overcharge; I got everything done exactly as I wanted and she was even able to recommend additional alterations that I did not even think of. Both dresses cost me just over $400 to alter. I recommend Clara to every bride. She is extremely talented!!! read more

Clara's Wedding Alterations - my dress after Clara altered it from a size 10 and moved the waist up 5 inches!!! - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - Atlanta, Georgia

Mrs. Clara is amazing! She made my wedding dress into my dream dress! Originally, I regretted purchasing my dress at first because I didn't love it. It was too big and fit weird, but clara made some serious changes and it came out exactly what I had envisioned my dress to look like. I live in NY but my wedding was in GA, and every trip down to Clara's for fittings was well worth it. She even made my bustle so beautifully subtle that it looked so well in picture. I got so many compliments during my wedding! I would highly recommend her for any alterations. My whole family even changed their tailor and now only come to Clara's for all alterations. read more

Clara basically made my bargain designer dress like new again! I found a designer wedding dress that was discounted to $200 at an outlet for La Raine's. It was a BEAUTIFUL dress, but had clearly been the show room dress or in some other way used, with darkening of dirt near the zipper on it. There was this lovely beading and embroidery in a cherry blossom sort of pattern, but some of the stitching was loose and in some places the beading looked like it was going to come undone. Also, it seemed like someone had tried to alter it previously (poorly) and basically tucked a bunch of fabric into the hips, so it made my butt look big and bunched unevenly. Clara and her team re-did all the stitching and beading that was loose, as well as some that they had to re-work near hem lines that needed to be altered, and she fixed the zipper area, AND un-did the weird prior alterations. She even made little adjustments that I didn't originally ask for, accentuating nice features of my body and further improving on the dress. She has a real eye for how to make these dresses really flatter your figure! She did such a good job, I had 2 other formal dresses altered by her (similarly exceptionally tailored), and I just took my Herve Leger (also bought on sale) dress over to have her fix the top slightly so that it flatters my figure better (those dresses are figure-flattering to begin with, but this one was slightly off at the top). I love her work, and I drive over 20 minutes to her alteration shop because I trust her with my dresses. read more

Initially, I was going to wait until my dress was totally complete to post a review; however, as this is prime wedding/alteration season, I couldn't wait... She was highly recommended by my BHLDN stylist (they do not do alterations in-house). Clara is a wedding dress alteration fairy (if that is even a "thing")... seriously, she has worked magic on my dress. She transformed it into a mermaid fit, added cups, smoothed this incredibly tricky illusion back, made it fit through the hips and posterior, and ensured that it did not gap ANYWHERE. As an added bonus, she is sweet, complimentary, and SO excited about my dress - she truly is passionate about her craft. I love her!!! She has made what could be quite stressful SO fun. In the attached picture, all that is left is to take it in slightly more and re-attach a few appliques - I will re-post with the final product. BEAUTIFUL work. read more

Clara's Wedding Alterations - First fitting - Clara has done a FLAWLESS job! - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - Atlanta, Georgia

Clara did a fabulous job on my wedding dress! My dress had complicated design. The bodice was too big (especially at the boobs area), and the waist area was too tight. Clara took out some extra lace on the front meticulously without changing the original pattern. I could barely tell the lace has been altered. She also reduced the cup size and sewed a built-in-bra in my dress. The corset on the waist line was extremely tight in the original design. I could barely breath with it. Clara let out as much corset as possible and also extend some fabric at the hook area. The dress was very comfortable to wear during the wedding day. I can not thank Clara enough for the fantastic work. read more

This is without a doubt THE worse place of, not only wedding dress shopping, but to do any kind of business. The owner Clara has a serious attitude problem dealing with her customers and generally does not know what she is doing. Getting your outfit altered for a huge event is a big deal and if you want to risk it in her hands, go for it but I would advise against it. She took my outfit and completely ruined it, when I tried to confront her and demand it be fixed I was treated very badly. read more

There may not be enough words in the English language to express how much I love Clara. She is the kindest woman! My first consultation she was so sweet and constantly complimented me. She even walked me out to my car! My dress had very intricate beading and was a fit and flare satin gown. I just knew it was going to be expensive. Every time I visited her (5 visits in all) she found more things to do to the dress to make it perfect including opening the back up. Never did the price change from the original price we agreed to on my first visit!! If you think I'm hyping her up just look at my before and after pictures. Clara worked wonders and was always so gracious, so warm and just a pleasure to be around. She was referred to me from a friend and I have referred her to my friends. Clara did a great job altering my wedding dress over a series of 3 appointments. My dress was full of lace so I was very particular and nervous about having it messed with. She also sewed a beaded belt to the dress. My favorite part was the wedding veil fabric from my mother's wedding veil that she cut and sewed to my jeweled comb. Clara is my saving grace!! I took my bridesmaid dress to another alterations place in downtown Roswell - they had it for nearly a month, took in the lining WAY too much and didn't even take in the shell of the dress. I got it back less than 2 weeks before the wedding. This brought me to Clara. She knew exactly what to do. She let the lining out in just a couple of days, and I went back today to have her do the pinning so that the entire dress is taken in properly - she's super thorough. I will get my dress back next week, but I am THAT confident to go ahead and give her a review because she does amazing work!! Highly recommended to anyone and everyone. *UPDATE* the dress fits perfectly!!! read more

This little lady was amazing! Went to get a formal dress altered and wasn't quite sure where to go. Normally, I have a seamstress who alters my professional attire but didn't want to risk it. So I went on a quest for a professional who deals with formal dresses on a consistent base. I searched good old Yelp and this business popped up. The reviews were dead on. Made an appt, arrived and was seen immediately. She gave me the exact date of when the dress would be ready and it was. The only reason I can't give this a five star is because I think she is a bit pricey..but service and quality was great! I will definitely be returnning read more

I realize that one or two terrible experiences among a sea of great reviews for a place usually just reflects poorly on the reviewer, so let me qualify this in advance by saying it may have been an isolated incident. The work Clara and her team did on my bridesmaid dress for my cousin's wedding was unacceptable and yet I think I'm more appalled by how the situation was handled upon discovering the work. I brought in a satin dress (pretty standard bridesmaid material) to be hemmed. When I went in to pick it up, the hemline had pulls and bubbles and errors all over. There was also a stain that had not been there prior. When I brought these issues to Clara's attention, she made me walk over to a bridal group who would tell me "it's not that noticeable!" When I pointed out that I was paying $50 for a dress to be professionally hemmed and therefore wanted a professional hem, Clara haughtily informed me that it was the fabric's fault (even though all of the other bridesmaids had their dresses hemmed and there were no issues) and when I said again that that's why I brought it to her instead of doing it myself, she made a scene saying "OH this is about MONEY." Well, kind of...yes. Being that I was paying for a professional hem and it was a mess. She then more or less recruited the bridal group to say "That's a great deal! $50 isn't bad." Um, for a botched hem, yes it is bad. In summary, Clara was unprofessional and the work was not up to par. She tried to make me look foolish for having a problem with the work, to the point where I just paid and left. I do NOT recommend this shop for alterations. read more

i have only heard exceptional things. however, when calling in to check on the seamstress' availability so that i may bring my wife in, the young lady on the phone states that "...we do not do this for men, not for men, we can not do this for men..." and hangs up. can not emphasize this enough, there is probably a great experience to be had, if only i could get someone else to answer the phone. this is supposed to be a surprise for my wife, so having her call in is not in the cards. looks like i will be having another female family member call in on my behalf. unable to wrap my mind around the ridiculousness of this situation, that a phone call surrogate is even necessary. whatever. i love my wife, and apparently, y'all do great work. p.s. gentleman considering calling in for any reason - save yourself the trouble and get a female spokesperson. i wish this was a joke. it is not. read more

Wow!!! Clara was my wedding dress alterations fairy godmother! She's a GENIUS! First of all, she made me feel good about myself and my body unlike someone else i went to. I took 3 items to her to be altered. My Vera Wang ceremony ball gown, a custom reception mermaid dress and a custom royal length mantilla veil. I had to purchase my ballgown on clearance in a size 10 because of my boobs and she had to take it down to a size 2. I didnt want to wear any undergarment whatsoever and her response, "sure! you wont need one". The other lady i went to could not comprehend how i wouldnt need cups sewn in or wear a long line with my HUGE boobs. like really.....? *side eye* With the ceremony gown, she resized down to 2 especially in the waist, change neckline from straight to sweetheart, and added a jeweled sash. I rented a petticoat but my waist is super small(humble brag) so she had to sew it into my dress and i took it back after the wedding so she could take it back out. Total for all 3 items was very reasonable and i even had 2 of my bridesmaids get their dresses altered with her. I really love her so much, i think i'm going to have several vow renewals so i can keep going back to her!!! She was more excited about my dresses and wedding than even I was!!! She's truly a gem!!! read more

First off let me say I am not a relative, friend or anyone else other than a customer. Okay that being said.... This place is amazing! I am a bride and wanted to change up my dress a bit but didn't want to spend a fortune doing so. I read the reviews and brought my dress here. Clara was sooooo sweet and knowledgeable. She understood everything I wanted to do and executed it perfectly. You would never know that I changed anything about the construction of the dress. So happy. BUT.... What makes me even HAPPIER was the price. She is ridiculously reasonable. Brides... This is THE place to go for your alterations!!! read more

Clara is AWESOME! She did an amazing job altering my bridal gown. When I went for my first fitting she knew exactly where it needed to be taken in. I didn't even have to tell her she just knew. I also was a little worried that my bustle would break because a few of my girlfriends did during their own weddings. My bustle held strong all night! She is also fairly priced and will not over charge or try to take advantage of you like I have experienced in the past at other places. I highly recommend Clara she is the best!!! read more

Clara's Wedding Alterations - My wedding dress! - Sewing & Alterations Near Me - Atlanta, Georgia

I couldn't sit on this review any longer. I held off because I wanted to attach pictures of my altered wedding dress with it but the photos aren't ready yet. Of course I will plan to attach photos later. Clara did an amazing job with my dress and went above and beyond my expectations. First off, she fixed the bust and the waist and afterward when she realized that the dress had a small gap in the back due to the way the buttons were shaped, she made a new button to fix it. To take in the bust, she had to undo some very complicated embrodiery and sew it back together. It came out flawlessly and it fit snug around my chest without being too constrictive. After my second fitting, I had said that I wanted it hemmed to accomodate our first dance and she said it wasn't a problem, and by my third fitting, it was hemmed to the perfect length. I twirled around her shop to test it out and make sure I could do the twirls in my first dance routine. Perfect length. Also flawless during the actual wedding Now to the train, Clara outdid herself with this one. I had a long embroidered train that had to be taken up when I danced. Instead of simply making one hook in the back of the dress to hook the train onto, Clara went and did 5 so that it gathered in a way that made it seem like I was wearing a different dress. The embroidered parts ended up spaced out so well that it seemed like the dress was always meant to be worn with the train up. It was absolutely beautiful. And in terms of service, Clara is fantastic. She has your dress ready for you as soon as you get into the shop for your appointment and she starts pinning as soon as she notices something wrong. She also listens to your concerns and quickly finds a way to fix anything you bring up. Furthermore, I loved how her cost was fixed. The price she charges at the first visit is the price for the alteration no matter what she needs to fix after each fitting. I find that this method is a very honest way to do business and so I was comfortable to tell her my concerns openly as I wasn't afraid of additional charges for something I didn't like. read more

David Tutera said it best "Ladies, Ladies, Ladies... Do NOT buy your wedding gown online." And he should have added: "Especially if your vision of yourself is willowy and tall, but in actuality, you are 5″1″ and um thick. Clearing throat. And so the nightmare came true... as I thought it possibly could. I knew better...but once I saw the darn dress online, I couldn't find it anywhere. The site I found bragged that it could take your picture and turn it into the dress of your dreams... But what it didn't tell me was that the dream in my head was all WRONG.... And I will admit, I have been working out faithfully, performing squats, leg raises, lunges, situps, treadmill, drinking protein shakes, cutting out sugar, staying away from high fat foods...etc. But I still don't look like the model in that darn dress. And why didn't I go to a dressmaker and get my measurements? And so the dress arrived as my dutiful lady promised.... heck, it's not her fault. She did everything I asked her to do... and more even. She returned phone calls, emails, sent it as promised way before it was due. And I swear...it fits....Raine(12 year old)...not me.... _________ I panicked after I received my dress and it wouldn't even close. I called another alterations place and I could hear the lady shaking her head over the phone...she specialized in "piecework" and making newer clothes from older clothes, she said no over and over again. Told me to call her if I just wanted to talk for support. I think I will now. Guys I spent too much on the dress to give up. There was truly a knot in my stomach. 2 days went by and I wondered really what the heck was I going to do about my "dream come nightmare." So I googled re furbished wedding gowns, etc. And then I saw these reviews for Clara. And I woke up and took mom looking for her dress and slid her shop in the shopping to see if she could help me. Of course she said: (I could cry now thinking back) And Ms. Clara fixed it all. With the help of this review site, I felt compelled to write this. I blogged about my ordeal a little on my vow renewal site and I can say that it was a success. I was so embarrassed that I did something soo crazy... Clara was fair with the price and she even re- did mom's for her, covering up the chest area where Mom always felt really self -concious because of scarring from burns. She was an angel to us. They worked their magic and did something more amazing: they made me a dress that did not require a bra for my 40DDD size cup . I had been all over the internet looking for corsets etc. to hold up the dress and had given up and was going to ask her to create straps. She said NO...the day of the fitting... you DONT NEED BRA.... I hesitated.... she said LIFT ARMS HIGH... I did and it fit! It FIT!!!! IT FIT!!!!! I turned around and around... She said: "SEE"... I kept saying: Thats amazing! So amazing.... She said: "Amazing" smiling. Her husband superbly pressed my dress before the ceremony. It was beautiful. I felt like a really really grown princess. Forever Clara....sniff. read more

I just have to put my $0.02 here to say that I've been working with Clara since 2012, and her work is truly stunning. I'm an opera singer, so I have a fair number of gowns every year that need some sort of alteration. Clara always handles my garment with incredible care and expertise... she's been able to work wonders on a few that I didn't think were salvageable. Her prices are fair, and her turn around is surprisingly quick. Let's put it this way... I no longer live in Roswell (I now live in between Little 5 Points and East Atlanta), and I happily make the drive to work with Clara. She's simply the best. read more

She created the ability to bustle the dress for the reception and it looks wonderful. She answered all our questions. Made herself available when ever we needed her and her work is superb!! I gotta hand it to her....Clara did an amazing job. My dress was a fit and flare with lots of organza and detailing. I got the skeletal ribbing taken out, the bust smoothed out (the dress made my boobs look like I had robot nipples), and of course hemmed up the dress without altering the design of the fit and flare. This was all done in less than 3 weeks. I know I was pushing it with time, but this was not a challenge for her. This is her passion and it truly shows in her workmanship. To all brides-to-be planning on going to Clara's Wedding & Alterations, I highly recommend that you find someone else. I had the absolute worst experience! My dress looked worse and felt even worse than before I even brought it in. I cried at my final dress fitting, and ended up taking the dress to another alteration store with only 3 weeks until my wedding! At one point during the fitting, Clara told me I needed to lose weight, which actually ended up being a hook she put in the wrong spot, but who says that to a bride? She also told me I was asking for too many little things when I pointed out to her that my halter straps were sewed on badly and they looked like an afterthought.
