There's a reason this place is top rated. The best meal we had in Barcelona by far. Wait staff is awesome and the food is amazing. The place was packed for dinner but we didn't have to wait long to be seated. You must have a meal at this place when in town!!! Every item we ordered was great. You can read about the various dishes so I won't repeat what others have said. Super well-run spot. We often get the "assorted tapas platter" to start and then add on with what's fresh. English menu, but get the Spanish one as well, and ask questions! Only a few blocks away from Las Ramblas, and SO much better... We've never eaten indoors. The outdoors spot is really nice. Often a fairly long wait, make sure you give your name to the outdoors maitre d when you arrive. There are some benches to sit on while waiting. They don't rush anyone, but they give pretty accurate estimates of how long it will be. Of course, avoiding "rush" times helps a lot! read more

Was it big and full if tourists? Yes, sure it was but the food was also very good, the atmosphere was lively, and our server was great. The only painful part of the experience was the wait but since we were only two, it wasn't too bad (approx 20-30mins). We had a seafood feast and actually met some very nice people (also on vacation...) sitting at the tables next to us. Of all the places I have eaten in europe, this place is by far the best. The tapas are to die for. Don't sit at their restaurant, stand or find a seat at their tapas bar and pick out tapas individually. There was not one thing that I didn't absolutely love. I also thought their prices were very reasonable. I would recommend Ciudad Condal to absolutely everyone who visits Barcelona. My favorite restaurant in Barcelona!! And the only restaurant that we ate at twice in our 6 day visit. This is the sister restaurant to La Cerveseria Catalana, but the menu is identical and I personally prefer this location since it's a little less hectic and not as crowded. The food here is soooo good! We loved everything that we tried. Some of my favorites from our two visits include: - Ham with olive oil/tomato bread - Mini hamburgers - Croquettes with potato - Grilled shrimp - Smoked salmon on french bread - Risotto with various mushrooms and seafood - Grilled mushrooms and asparagus The coffee and desserts are amazing. My mom said it was the best cappuccino she's had on our trip (to Paris and Barcelona). And the desserts, we just couldn't get enough of! My favorite was the lemon meringue pie, but the caramel flan and pumpkin cake were both very good as well. Tip - although the standard menu is in English, the daily tapas menu is only printed in Spanish. Therefore, it's helpful to either sit at the bar or at a table near the bar area so that you can easily walk around and look/select the tapas that you want to try. Delicious tapas, friendly service, really lively and fun ambiance - Ciudad Condal has it all! The hubby and I were in Barcelona for a few days during our summer vacation and stopped in Ciudad Condal based on a recommendation in Rick Steve's book. We are both vegetarian so we were concerned that we wouldn't be able to eat very much here. We figured we would stop in for a drink, maybe some patatas bravas and then head elsewhere for a full meal. However we were really surprised by the amount of vegetarian options. We had a bit of a wait to get seated on a Wednesday night but we made our way to the bar, grabbed some cava and eventually 2 spots opened up. The server was awesome and, despite our language barrier he was able to direct us to several veggie options. They were all delicious and left us stuffed and happy. I wish I could remember the names of the dishes to help out fellow Veggie Yelpers but just know that you'll have plenty of options. We tried a few other tapas spots during our trip and Ciudad Condal definitely had the coolest ambiance and the best food. read more

BY FAR THE BEST RESTAURANT WE ATE AT IN BARCELONA. I am glad I followed my cousin's review and ate here for our first dinner in Barcelona. Oh boy, did totally set the bar high for dining in Spain. First, the service was excellent. We had an amazing waitress, who was Filipina. Which made it fun to speak in my native tongue in a foreign country to me. Our waitress was nothing but helpful; she gave awesome recommendations. The food was spectacular. Seriously, everything we ordered was super flavorful and cooked perfectly. The cuttlefish and squid were delicious! They were cooked so perfectly. The squid was not chewy and the cuttlefish melted in my mouth. The braves and the aioli served with it was the best thing ever; we didn't want to stop eating it. We also ordered some cheeses and a few more tapas based on our waitresses' suggestions and all of them were beyond delicious. The desserts were divine as well. Seriously, if you end up in this corner of town, choose this restaurant. You won't regret it and you will regret going to the other places. It was a great experience. read more

Ate here mostly due to convenience during our stay. Convenience being, we're f'n starving where can we eat? They have both indoor and outdoor seating here, we opted for indoor due to the cool weather. The place was OK. We were seated in a hallway of sorts so the ambiance wasn't really there for us. Grabbed a bunch of tapas to share and while passable, there was nothing notable. Best thing was a tapas sized steak bite and the obligatory order of patatas bravas. Drinks were standard (local beers and full bar) and the service was prompt (there were a lot of waitstaff running around). Much appreciated that there was an English menu, minus the long list of specials which took forever to translate. So, ya, you can probably do OK here. Maybe we ordered some normie stuff bc we were in a rush, but for me it was pretty average at best. Especially in this city. read more

This place is all about the atmosphere. We never got into the dining room preferring our wee table at the end of the bar area. We came here by chance with a group of six jounros from all around the world literally-Laos, Taipei, France, Canada and the US, which mean we know jack-all about tapas but several of us have been coming for years. There's a huge mob trying to get into the dining room on the weekends and the bar is equally crowded. We grabbed six stools and stayed a couple of hours enjoying a couple bottle of wine, some tapas and that lovely Spanish hot chocolate. The tapas were't the best. We got the calcots, seasonal green onions which didn't seemed grilled enough. grilled gambas which were tasty but pretty standard and of course potatoes brava. Frankly none of the food was that good but the wine selection was good and affordable too. read more

Wow love this place!! This was the last dinner me and hubby had on our getaway to Barcelona, and wow!! Delicious! We came in at 10:30 on a Sunday night (still technically a weekend since it was Easter holiday). We were told we would get a table in 35-40 mins so we hopped to a nearby bar called Obamas. Came back and got started with a bottle of wine. We ordered everything! Clams, shrimp, patatas bravas, Iberian jamon ham, mini sliders and grilled peppers. My first time in Barcelona, my husband and I had stumbled upon this place by chance. We saw a lot of people inside, so we decided to check it out. It was an awesome experience. The bartenders are charming and funny. The sangria was delicious. A guaranteed good time. My second time in Barcelona, I'd tried a few other popular places for tapas such as Quimet & Quimet, but I was left disappointed. Had high hopes for this restaurant, after all, it's highly rated by fellow yelpers~ but was soon disappointed after tasting some overly salted and brianey Bandeja Jabugo(Iberian Ham, 15.95Euros), oily, chewy Plato Pan Tomate(Catalan Bread, 2.45Euros), and overly sweetened Sangria De Vino(1/2 pitcher of Sangria, 8.30Euros). Nevertheless, the expereience wasn't all bad, there were two dishes I thought was delicious~ Mixto Esparr. Champino(sauteed mixed mushrooms, 5.30Euros) and Brchi Lanstin(grilled prawns on a skewer, 3.80Euros). The restaurant got very crowded after 8pm, which suggests it's one of the local favorites~ maybe I should try sitting at the bar next time, so i can see what I'm ordering~ read more

I call it 'The sister of Cervezaria Catalana' Its a bit less crazy crowded than its sister restaurant :) Well, depending of the day and hour of course. But at least at this place I was able to sit more often and to get the same quality of food with small exceptions. Its closer to Placa Catalunya, so if you are in the area and see some chance for a seat, grab it! :) They have a bit bigger terrace than Cervezaria Catalana exactly on Rambla de Catalunya so its nice to dine there and watch all the people and the life around. read more

Hands down my favorite restaurant in Barcelona. Right in the heart of the city. This is a busy restaurant so there will be a line out the door. Check to see if they are just waiting for a table and have already put their name in. Depending on the size of your group, there may be a wait...a big wait, but it is so worth it. Trust me. Unlike the States, they won't rush you out the door. The service is relaxed and attentive. We had the same server four years ago and she remembered us from last time (usually that's not a good thing). The food is delicious. Small sharable portions that are very reasonably priced. My favorite item was a nut covered cheese stick goo of awesomeness oh and the croquettes. My two cents: I love this place. Take your patience for the wait, but then bring your appetite. read more

Went here with some expat friends who live in Barcelona, and very much enjoyed the dinner. We had a smorgasboard of Tapas, truly a little bit of everything- I really enjoyed the Iberian meat sampler, with Jamon Iberico, Chorizo, etc. The sangria was also tasty. The place does get crowded, especially if you show up at the typical Spanish dinner hour (9PM or so), so plan ahead and get there at US dinner times. (one of the places for acorn fed pork) ... lightly salted, thinly sliced and went wonderfully with their bread. jamon iberico is one of the highest quality hams (as opposed to serrano). 2X ... [M. Marc Butifarra] Black Sausage w/ eggplant chips... lightly crispy sausage on a skewer with lots of flavor. I don't remember the eggplant chips too much, but hey.. nice side dish? ...[M Salmon] Smoked salmon on sliced baguette ... mmm...salmon was so yummy, melt in your melt worthy. Truly worth a taste! 2X ...[Tallarinas] A serving of fresh clams -- my favorite!! =) delicious clams... it was truly very extra tapa sized *extra small lol hubby ordered a con leche &coke... they come in demitasse cups (as they should). =P Total bill was ~29euro. Yes, it is more expensive is Europe. =P It's crowded without being overwhelming. One reviewer this place, "high energy with killer tapas". YES! Pre-Spain Yelp, I relied more on wondering around instead of looking for specific recommendations. And yes... I had wine with almost EVERY meal cuz it's SO cheap. But don't worry, it's not like being in Italy / France where wine is actually cheaper than water. In Spain, you can actually order tap water and not get charged. =P read more

We were in Barcelona for a few days. Knew about tapas but, as it turns out, only enough to be dangerous. Residents of Barcelona eat late - 8Pm or after. So, we thought this highly rated restaurant would have some openings at 6PM. We took our chances and were told it would be about a 45 minute wait. We were one of many waiting for a table and the longer we waited the more the crowd increased. Finally, we were called in and sat at a great table! It was a little secluded which was great! Our waiter was fantastic! He noticed that we were all pouring over the tapas menu to see what we each wanted and he said (or something similar) - 'trust me - let me bring you the tapas that you will like. We trusted him and he did not disappoint'. The food started coming and coming and coming and as our very wise waiter said "It was all good and we were happy as clams" Without his prompting we would have not experienced this fantastic variety of 'little plates'. WOW. If I am ever in Barcelona again (which, I hope I am blessed to be) I will go back here without a doubt. read more

Excellent ! This is the place to go if you are in the city centre and you want good tapas. They have a long counter you can see that constantly renew food, Big selection of sandwiches at breakfast time and tapas the rest of the day, Inside there are many tables so it´s more spacious that it seems from the outside. Ciudad has a great atmosphere at the bar, though loses some ambiance in the back seating area. This place is much less touristy than other nearby tapas joints. The staff seemed to just be going through the motions...only one server stood out by actually smiling during our second visit. Excellent: Mini hot dog (well, the bun with sweet onion, bacon and cheese) Crispy Camembert Bravas Potatoes Fried green peppers Warm Escalivada with goat cheese Catalonian-style creme (with burnt sugar)! Good: Calamari Grilled pork loin w roquefort Grilled mushrooms Meh: Anchovies, tuna, red pepper and olives (on baguette) Remena (ham, mayo, lettuce) Prawn skewer (boring) Watch out ordering too many of the french-bread based tapas...they will fill you up fast. Try their Limon beer, it's like a shandy but a bit sweeter. It's a spanish brew and was pretty decent. This would really be 3 1/2 stars due to the service, primarily the pushy waiter who reminded me that 'service wasn't included'. Really, buddy? Read yelp reviews seem good went and no line got seated quickly enough ordered good so far then food came garlic prawn flavor okay but not so ok was the grittiness was not cleaned right, partner said foie gras beef tapas was good, a draw I guess. Mushroom was ok, German salad was too rich. Then the ambiance and service, note they automatically add 10% in the bill, and for that, we got servers talking loud in groups of 2-3, complaining about working, life, etc... breaking long enough to grab a plate and back to talking loudly. This was our favorite tapas bar while visiting Barcelona. It was probably a combination of the great outdoor seating in the middle of Rambla Catalunya, the locals that dine here and the delicious food. This place is full every single night, especially on the weekends, but you can grab a drink and wait for a table at the benches in front. We ate here three times for dinner, and each time waited about 15-30mins for an outdoor table. The waiters are busy, so they aren't super chatty, but that didn't bother us at all. Some highlights were the mini hamburguesa & sausage sandwich, the fried artichokes, and the great selection of beer and wine. Some locals told us to get the fried camembert cheese with the raspberry sauce and it was one of the best things we had the whole trip. This is also a perfect place for breakfast and we came here many mornings. The croissant and cafe con leche were under $3Euro. It was just the best! read more

LOVED this place!! We got there fairly early so we didn't have to wait too long for a table for 3. It was a bit hard for us to find because there seems to be 5 streets with "Catalunya" in it around the area. We ordered SOOOOO much food, but everything was delicious!! To start, we ordered a pitcher of sangria. The seafood is BOMB! Razor clams, shrimp, calamari were all super fresh and cooked in the perfect manor. The patas bravas and tomato on bread are both simple dishes, but somehow Cuidad Condal takes it to the next level! I think definitely one of our favorite meals in Europe and must go if you're in Barcelona!! read more
