"Tacos will never break your heart" Taco to me and I'll tell you about another great spot! The decor and ambience is cleverly made to symbolize Mexican culture and pay homage to dia de Los muertos. This place serves some very good tacos and are known for their char taste on their choices of protein like Asada, Pastor, Chicken, Tripas, Birria and more! You choose either corn or flour tortillas for your tacos and then dress them to your liking at their self service salsa topping bar. You can also purchase fresh tortillas made in house and I recommend the flour as it gives you that Sonoran taco feel with a nice flour tortilla and some good char grilled asada steak. Besides tacos they offer Birria tacos, burritos, quesadillas or caramelos which is a quesadilla in flour tortillas, gorditas, vampiros, mulas and the ever popular potatoes that come fully loaded with your choice of meat. Don't forget about their nachos or carne asada fries. For those who love spice there is something called a Tortito which is a shrimp and cheese stuffed chili wrapped in bacon To wash it all down you can choose from a Avis fresca, bottled Mexican soda, fountain drinks or even an ice cold beer. They cater and offer family pack size food which is bang for your buck and comes with tortillas and choice of meat. The good: the tables had a cute design and the walls had nice paintings on them. The red salsa was good. There is plenty of parking. The bad: unfortunately overall this place was extremely disappointing. First, when you walk in it smelled strongly of sewage. It did not smell like sewage outside, it smelled strongly of sewage only inside the restaurant. The bathrooms were also unclean with trash all over the floor. The verde salsa didn't have good flavor. It tasted okay, but like it was missing something. I tried a Birria caramelo and a Pastor Caramelo. Both of these were lacking in meat. The meet was all placed in the middle and had a lot of empty tortilla. The meat was not well seasoned either. The flour tortilla also tasted old. I don't think I would come here again given the abundance of other taco shops in Phoenix. read more

I stopped by today to get 2 carne asada burritos and 2 Carmelo's with asada, in my burritos I got beans, rice, pico, and sour cream added and they were so good! My man and I loved the burritos and my son loved the Carmelo's! Inside is very vibrant and a vibe with their decorations. The service was amazing the staff is very friendly. It was very clean inside as well. They have a salsa bar inside and you can get all your fixings you need from pico, cilantro and onions, red sauce, and a super hot sauce, and guacamole, and a few other stuff. If you have not been here I highly recommend to check them out. read more

We went here once many years ago and it was good. I usually cook at home because of situations like this but we were in a hurry. Couldn't believe what we got. We also got a asada burrito and the tortilla was so stiff like it was just reheated, we ended up throwing it away:(. The bean taco was a smear of beans and the birria taco... well not good either. Im sorry for leaving this type of review but just want to bring awareness. Wouldn't recommend coming back here unfortunately. read more

Average. I had the quesabirria tacos with consome. Both were lacking flavor. The tacos were a bit too crunchy for my taste. They have a salsa bar that's well stocked. The decorations are very pretty. I ordered delivery through GrubHub after a particularly taxing and long day at work so I have not been inside this restaurant. However, I wanted to try something new and was in the mood for a burrito so this spot served like a good choice. I will say I was not disappointed. I got chips and salsa, an asada burrito with rice and cheese, and a pastel tres leches with a rootbeer fountain drink. I got into the chips and salsa right away and was pleasantly surprised. I'm not usual a big fan of salsa that has a lot of liquid but this salsa was very good and had a nice flavor. None of the veggies were cut too big and the spice level was perfect. My burrito was very big and full of flavor. I didn't eat the whole thing in one sitting so I'm happy to have it for dinner tomorrow too. I haven't eaten the cake yet. I'm too full from the rest of the food but it looks amazing and I'm excited to try it! I look forward to getting food from this spot again in the future! read more

To say the least this visit was pretty disappointing. We walked in late afternoon and the restaurant was pretty empty. However, upon entering the restaurant, there was a distinct smell of what I described as dirty mop water. The restaurant was quiet and no music playing, all you could hear where the hood vents from the kitchen in the back. With the exception of the quesabirria tacos that my kiddo got, everything else was pretty disappointing. My girlfriend got a birria caramelo and a pastor caramelo that were very disappointing. The caramelo lacked protein, they definitely went very light on the meat and it was mostly tortilla with pretty light cheese as well. I also got the Carne Asada caramelo and was also very light on the meat. I also got a Carne Asada burrito, which I added beans too as well, but when I received that it was mostly tortilla. I unwrapped it to fill it with salsa and condiments from the station and found out that it was very light on Carne Asada. The first couple bites I took were mostly tortilla. This is definitely a disappointing visit as I had been here before and don't remember it being this light on the protein. The smell also made it an unpleasant meal to sit through in the quiet. read more

Do not confuse traditional"Sopes" with their "gorditas". I got two gorditas, one chicken and one pastor. They both lacked the corn flavor from a corn based sope. The meat was ok. I washed it all down with an agua de Jamaica and it all came out to $18! Way over priced. Will maybe return to try a burrito. read more

Needed some late night Mexican food yesterday and this fulfilled my need! The don't do online ordering late in the day so I went in to order for pickup. I got a bean, rice, and cheese burrito, and chips and salsa. The burrito was absolutely massive which was awesome. Salsa that the chips come with is watery and not my fave, but the salsa bar has a much better selection and even has a guac sauce. I usually like veggies on my burrito, they don't have that as an option but they do have pickled veggies and they have cabbage and cucumbers at the salsa bar so I was able to get some of those! I liked the sautéed onions with the burrito too. Service was really good, got my food out in a timely manner, the guy taking my order was really nice and made conversation with me. Lots of seating in here, would probably be a good lunch stop too. read more

Looks like they even have cold beers and margaritas. Too bad I can't have one right now. The service is just what i need. It's nice ,clean and not a loud environment. Phoenix has no shortage of delicious taco joints, but when we popped by here we had very little time to sit down somewhere. I looked up City Tacos and the good reviews convinced me to go in - good choice! It's got an authentic feel and a simple interior. Tacos are served up quickly and the line is super efficient. Al Pastor is typically my litmus test for good tacos and sooooo many places get it horribly wrong. The pastor tacos here were tasty and not too 'masked' by pineapple chunks. I also liked the carne asada and the chicken tacos. I truly liked the salsa and fixins bar. They've got all-you-want pickled onions and jalapeños, fresh onions and radishes, at least 6 salsas, and a really good spicy creamy guac. And the prices were great! Hi! I ended up ordering from City Tacos to use a credit from an app that was reaching expiration. I had never noticed or heard about this place before, and, wow, what a nice surprise. I ordered Tripa, Birria and Shrimp burritos and all of them were good. They packed them in disposable containers with onions and a jalapeño on the side for each. Shrimp burrito had a lot of beans, though, but it was still very good. I did order for pickup and the order was ready on time. No opinion on service since I did not dine in. There is plenty of parking, which is important to me LOL. Will be ordering from here again, hopefully soon. read more

I've been coming to City Tacos since 2017! When I tell you, this is the best taco spot in Arizona I am not kidding. There are no other taco shops that begin to compare to City Tacos. I know taco boys is a really popular place but to be honest that place always makes my stomach hurt lol city tacos does not miss!! Their food is absolutely off the chain! So freaking delicious and their salsa bar is the best. They have the hottest red sauce and they have a guacamole salsa that is absolutely incredible. Whenever I come here, I usually get chicken tacos on flour tortilla or I'll get a Carne Asada Vampiro. Honestly, everything on their menu is absolutely incredible but those are just a few of my favorite things to order! You can tell their food is quality and it really cures my craving whenever I'm craving tacos. I just can't say enough good things about this spot. Solid performance today on carne asada tacos. Prepared to order I bet, not waiting on the grill until jerky like some places. Thick fresh corn tortillas and the bit of carmelized onion tucked inside are great, but I added cilantro and onion, and pico de gallo. Tacos were accompanied by a grilled pepper, delicious!! Salsa bar is the most extensive I have ever seen. Cucumbers, radishes, pickled peppers and a generous array of toppings including fresh cabbage, crema and a broad assortment of salsas and sauces. My wife and I ate here last week and we ordered an Al pastor burrito and some Tacos...canned asada and al pastor. Burrito was $12.99 and was mostly tortilla. The pork had some fatty pieces and so did the tacos. We ordered ships and salsa as well. The chips were good, but I ordered an 8 ounce salsa to go and it was pathetic! Super watery and very little flavor and zero heat. The salsa bar is decent, but if you want something hot, don't go here. There are too many other good taco spots. Not worth it for the price. The burrito should be priced at seven bucks based on what I had. My two cents. read more

Casual spot where you order at the counter, pay and then they call out your order number. Staff is friendly and willing to help if you have any issues with your order. They have several options such as tacos or burritos and you can choose which meat you would like in them. They have a salsa bar that has all the toppings you might want, sour cream and guacamole included. I tried an asada, chicken and pastor taco. My girlfriend got two chicken tacos with cheese added. You get your choice of corn or four tortilla. I thought the asada and pastor were great, I added some onion and cilantro and guac to top them off but I definitely enjoyed them. The chicken on the other hand was pretty flavorless.. maybe it was an off day but I had to smother that one in toppings. My girlfriend likes her tacos plain so for her it was pretty hard to eat, on the dry side and not much flavor. Still edible but not the greatest. Overall it's not a bad choice, reasonably priced and I did enjoy 2/3 of my tacos. It just didn't stand out to me in comparison to similar places. Staff is friendly and made things right quickly when we realized they left cheese off of a couple of our tacos as requested. Not a bad place to stop for a quick bite. read more
