But the person that did did not use brand new and sterile tools so I got a fungal infection in my right big toe for the first time even had to go to the emergency room. Took my daughter Friday 7/13 after noon for her birthday. She got a pedicure and nail painted. I got a pedicure and fill in. I don't think the lady heard me when I said fill in so I noticed ppl going ahead of me. The owner/manager took me right in and she got me done in no time. She told me to make sure I come back. The salon is a little dated and not as nice as some of the others in the area. They do use quality products and their nail services are good and reasonably priced. The only reason I don't recommend this place is because the last two times I went, they used an iPad with a square reader to check me out. Each time they charged me 4+ times because she "couldn't get it to work". This then caused a hold on my card for suspected fraud. It was such a pain and they weren't apologetic at all for it so I won't be back. If you're in a bind and need to go here, only pay in cash. read more

BEST shellac manicure I've ever gotten (and I've gotten a ton)! Tiffany was so precise and careful with my nails, removing any excess polish around the cuticle that most (sloppy) places don't care enough to remove. She did many clear coats under the color to make my nails feel strong, but they aren't bulky or heavy looking at all. She also painted the tips so the entire nail has color instead having of a thick white edge. Exquisite work!!! Thank you thank you!! Cannot recommend enough. read more

I can only review on my waxing experience. This was my second time going in for an eyebrow and lip wax. The first time, wasn't terrible, I had to sit in one of pedicure chairs while they did it, which was awkward. The wax itself was just okay. I came in again today, because I wanted to like this place as it is so close to my new apartment! This time, the girl took me into their waxing room, which was basically just a closet with a massage table. Although it is their waxing room, they still use it as storage. The wax was too hot, but not unbearable. She waxed and plucked, so I was expecting them to come out well. As you can see from my pictures, she didn't get all of the stray hairs. I'm not super upset because it's fixable, but for $20, I'd expect more. I won't be going back. read more

My cuticles were not cleaned up and the manicure left me with hang nails on three nails that chipped the paint when I cleaned them up. The pedicure was okay. My friend got the same thing as I did and hers included hot stones, but mine didn't? The massage was meh... Not worth the money or time. Go somewhere else. read more

I recently moved to the neighborhood and am looking for a new nail salon. City Nails is within walking distance of my house, and I had high hopes. It's a clean place, and they have lots of stations and colors to choose from. I didn't have to wait nor did anyone who came in after I did. That's why I was surprised that the nail tech rushed through my pedicure -- to the point where she cut my toe and it bled -- and practically kicked me out the door without letting me sit for a few minutes to let my nails dry. Per the sign, they didn't close for another two hours, so I was a bit miffed. We had a significant language barrier (it happens), but I think I ended up agreeing to more than I ordered based on the final price. I paid with my debit card and had the tip line filled in and the slip signed when the tech (who I couldn't really understand) grabbed my hand and said "No, no, no, cash." I asked if they accepted tips on cards and she said yes, so I handed her the slip. She shook her head, and the tech at the next station said to me (in a very slow, condescending manner -- and really loud too, like I must be hearing impaired to not understand) "We ACCEPT card tips, but it's better for US if you tip in cash." I get it, they want their tips in cash. But they offer the option of tipping on cards, and I already had the slip filled out. And not to sound like a jerk, but I am a paying and generously tipping customer, so don't lecture me on the tipping process. If you only want your tips in cash, post a sign and remove the line from the receipt (although I tip much better when they allow me to tip on the card). So I asked for a new receipt, and she motioned for me to cross out the tip amount and the total on the existing signed slip, which made me very uncomfortable, but I did it. I only had $5 cash in my wallet, so her original $12 tip ended up being significantly less than what it had originally been, but in the currency of her choice. There are a lot of salons in the neighborhood, and I won't return to City Nails. read more

It's been two years since I last reviewed, and this is still my favorite place for a pedi. They get you right in, even at the busiest times (like mid-day on a rainy Saturday), and are always quick to offer a drink (wine, water, whatever you like). Yes, they like to upsell -- extra massage time, top coat that makes polish last longer, etc. Be ready to select your pedi option. They start with a basic for $25 and go up to the $50 Milk and Honey option. I've never done the Milk and Honey, but today, I was in need of a little extra somethin' and I went with the Tropical, which included a salt scrub, paraffin, hot stones and a 20-minute massage that was phenomenal! Cost was $45 and worth every penny. I left there feeling like a newer, more relaxed version of myself, with prettier toes and softer heels of course. The only thing that slightly irks me is their grimace when I add gratuity on my credit card instead of giving them cash. Yeah, I get it. Cash is preferable. But it's also never in my wallet. So if you want a good tip, it'll be on my credit card. Welcome to 2015. read more

Most unprofessional staff. Tacky. Want sure if the nail tech wanted to kill me or just had a bad day. She had shakey hands and kept cutting more than just my cuticles. Not vocal. I had to show her an obvious bubble, and she acted like she didn't see anything, until another tech told her in Vietnamese just to clean it up. It's interesting to hear the things the staff say when then don't think you understand Vietnamese. I not only sat through insults, I also had to watch this technician play with another tech's breasts. Just surreal! This place is just a run down mess. If you can't even smile at a potential client, but say thank you when being tipped, then then service industry is definitely not for you. Shellac'n Shysters! My fault, I tried it twice and each time I felt ripped off - never again! Service was horrible. We were not offered beverages and three different people worked on my pedicure. One guy changed out with a girl right in the middle of painting my toes. The massage was seriously half ass and was not 15 minutes. My boyfriend left no tip and I only left 3.00, not like is at all. Well they had a 45 minute wait, so I kept walking. Glad I did because this place was quick and available. The environment is very nice and relaxing. I paid the extra few bucks for the deluxe manicure and I don't think I've ever upgraded and thought it was worth it, but it was totally worth it. I only took off one star for sanitary reasons. My pedicure is decent, but the woman wouldn't stop trying to get me to upgrade my service even after I told her multiple times that I just wanted a basic pedicure. The manicure is awful. The polish is uneven and so far away from my nail bed that is looks a week old. If you are in a pinch, I would recommend it for a pedicure. Longest and worst nail appointment I've ever had. I asked for a manicure with fill Nexgen nails and ended up leaving in tears with bleeding cuticles, splotchy colored, and misshaped nails. What should've taken 45 minutes took two and a half HOURS, and I didn't even get any part of a manicure, just my nexgen change. I brought a picture of exactly how I wanted my nails shaped, and I've been growing them out for 6 weeks so they'd be long enough. The technician was very nice and tried hard but could not shape my nails to save her life and ended up filing my nails down to my fingertips into to weird and lumpy shapes. Then when trying to buff them, cut up every one of my cuticles to the point of bleeding. On top of it all, the pink color I chose ended up so splotchy that it looks like tie dye on my nails. The technician could see how upset I was, as I was in tears- and STILL made me pay the full price for the manicure and nexgen service. read more

Had my bridesmaids get their nails done here! I called 3 weeks ahead and felt a little skeptical so I rebooked it the day before (previous appointment nowhere to be found, which is typical of places like these). They put us all in a private room with music and let us bring in champagne. Each of us got our own tech to work on us, so we were all done at the same time. So fun! I went in here for a fill to my acrylic nails and they charged me THRITY DOLLARS which is significantly higher than anywhere I have ever seen. I didn't even get a full manicure no massage no nothing. According to her -- they only do "solar nails". These are not solar nails -- they are regular acrylics with polish. She put a gel top coat on it and that constitutes a 15 dollar price hike. There are no price signs and honestly, I should have asked first but I didn't expect it to be double what salons even in UPTOWN charge. I will NEVER return here. They should put signs up-- but they won't because I guarantee, I am not the first person to be fooled this way. read more

I was not impressed with this place but it is probably more the technician than salon. She barely spoke one word to me. I had asked about a manicure when I came in and the lady in charge sent me over to this technician's table. She didn't ask what type of manicure or anything else. The only time she spoke was when she asked if I wanted a topcoat for an additional $5 and if I could give her a tip in cash.
