She discussed the pros and cons of my needed Rx and the pros and cons of a further consult with an ophthamologist due to a finding on my exam. Her staff were friendly and the choices of glasses great for me and reasonably priced. They all chipped in on giving their opinion on frames i was considering which was fun. I used the online scheduling which was incredibly easy and was able to get seen quickly.The parking garage is a little tricky (on the back side of the building)to find but plenty of parking at 3pm. Went to see Dr. Chin today here, great service. Their customer service is wonderful! I left a voicemail on Wednesday and spoke with someone Thursday to make the appointment. That was surprisingly fast considering I'm scheduled out 2-3 weeks for every other appointment in town. Blew me away. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. It's a smaller establishment, so waiting for the appointment was comfortable and social. It's definitely better than waiting in a typical clinic. Dr. Chin listened to my concerns, did a thorough exam, and had me out the door in no time! They have a place to be fit for glasses as well. It's convenient. They accepted my work insurance, which is pretty popular. When I looked online it seems they can work with a lot of different carriers. Overall, this was a wonderful experience at the optometrist! The customer service and eyewear selection are probably the best you can get in Seattle. I'm a graduate student at the University of Washington and needed to update my prescription. I decided to try City Eyeworks because they were close and had a good selection. The exam was quick and the doctor was friendly. The assistant at the front was incredibly helpful and patient as I tried on different frames. I decided to go with a pair of stylish frames that I loved even though I'd never worn that kind before. I never heard of the frame company (141) before but they provide a free pair of glasses to a child in need for every pair you buy, a perfect selling point for me, and their styles are some of the best I've seen. The assistant helped adjust them for me on several occasions till they fit perfectly! I will definitely go back and would highly recommend City Eyeworks to anyone else looking for a good new eye shop with a great selection. read more

I've been coming here for about 5-6 years now despite the fact that I have moved away from the area. The shop is always neat and clean, staff friendly and helpful, and Dr. Chin is always thorough and easy to talk to. They have a good variety of frames to look through and at a range of prices which is great for everyone. I moved here last year and since starting a new job as well, I needed a new eye care office, too. My boyfriend goes to this office as well, I had seen a postcard to him from them and I thought I'd call for myself to schedule an appt. I contacted them and they were able to squeeze me in within 2 weeks.They are open Saturdays, which is a plus, and are close by me. 3 hour Parking is free in the garage below and once you take the elevator up, they are right outside facing the street. I've seen Dr. Taketa and Dr. Chin, both the sweetest people and sincerely care about your eyes. I first tried to get contacts, but they just didn't work out for me. When I went back for my follow up, they were more than willing to change everything for my insurance to glasses. They have tons of cute styles and I ended up going with the Paul Frank brand. Once they came in, Julie, the front desk receptionist, called me and I said I'd come to get them that night. She was even willing to stay a few minutes past 6pm when I had called and said there was traffic, but I was just down the street. The team of professionals here are so courteous, helpful and go above and beyond. I'm so glad I found them! read more

I have been going to City Eyeworks for several years now and will never go back. I suggest you go elsewhere unless you enjoy dealing with a rude, unhelpful, and incompetent staff, being blamed for issues that aren't your fault, or getting the wrong prescription. Last year, I got an eye exam for new contacts. I was given the wrong prescription, in that they ordered the wrong contacts in the wrong strength and gave them to me. I had fuzzy vision, depth perception issues, and headaches, until I figured it out and got the correct prescription. No apologies given. Apparently, my contact lens prescription wasn't updated and neither were the correct charges submitted to my insurance. When I went to get contact lenses from another retailer at the end of the year, because I no longer trust City Eyeworks with anything to do with my eye health, they refused to release my prescription, saying it had expired!! They said they only approved an eyeglass exam and not a contact lens exam, even though I have only purchased contact lens from them and went to get new contact lenses. I was never notified of this discrepancy and regardless the fee should have automatically been deducted from my insurance, as it has been every year. It doesn't make any sense why they do a contact lens exam yet not update my contact lens prescription. The office wanted me to come in for another eye exam, which I refuse to do. Why should I give them more money to correct their mistake? Now I'm out my eye benefit for the year. I have been suffering from severe health problems that have incapitated me and now I will legally blind without my contacts. Please don't patronize such a horrible business. The front desk staff is the WORST I have ever dealt with, they are costing the doctor business. Go elsewhere!! read more

I've always had issues with my eyes which would cause them to get very red and sensitive every few weeks. Finally fed up, I booked an appointment to see Dr. Taketa, who was able to see me right away. After explaining my situation and the routine check up, she determined it was my use of my computer. Due to my line of work, I'm online at least 8-10 hours a day. She explained what we do when we look at a screen and the damage it can do to our eyes for extended periods. Did you know that when you look at a computer screen, you blink half as often, and you don't fully close your eyes?? No wonder I was having so much trouble- my eyes were parched! Dr. Takeda advised me to stick to my eye glasses but gave me sample daily contact lenses to use sparingly and super lubricating eye drops, as well as helped me develop an eye care regimen. After 2 weeks using her samples and sticking to her eye care plan, I came back with no more eye pain and bright eyes. It's been a year since my initial visit, and I haven't experienced any eye issues since. The staff here is the best. I recommend Dr. Taketa and City Eyeworks to everyone. read more

I had scheduled appointment and after waiting for 50 min, asked a receptionist for how much longer I am to wait. I was called by an assistant right away, got two pre-tests done and was told to go back and wait for the doctor (Taketa). I left sharp at one hour after my appointment was scheduled, and it was the first time when receptionist apologized for the delay. Dr. Taketa left a voicemail later with apologies and offered to re-schedule my appointment. I don't know if they are good at their craft, but I know that they have no respect for their patients time. read more

I needed to update my contact prescription and after seeing the positive reviews, decided to visit City Eyeworks. I called for a quote and was told that with my insurance I could expect to pay $40.00. This is more than my usual vision copay but based on the reviews, I felt it would be worth it. Sadly I was disappointed. Upon arriving for my appointment, it was discovered that I had been booked on the wrong day. They made arrangements and got me seen as a walk-in. The doctor visit was fine but very basic. Upon completion of my appointment, I was advised that I needed to provide payment of $95.00 for my appointment rather than the advised $40.00. When asked why the price was different, the girls at the front desk explained that my insurance does not pay for the doctor to examine the fit of the contacts. I explained that I had called beforehand and was told that with my insurance the appointment would be no more than $40.00, but to no avail. I am rather shocked at City Eyework's practices. Whatever their fees are, they should be properly disclosed to their customers. read more

After having a very negative experience at another neighborhood eye store, decided to give these guys a try. Very helpful staff. In no way did I feel steered to the most expensive frames. They have a great selection and staff that's patient and I believe gave there honest impressions. When it came time to choose the lenses, add-ons I didn't feel like I was in a used car showroom either. She (Christina) gave me her opinions frankly but didn't try to convince me in any way. This place is great, something I've never said about an optomitrist before. I ended up here thanks to my prior optician moving & a change of insurance. Dr. Takata was very thorough and took the time to explain everything. There were some unusual changes to my vision, and she worked through options until figuring out the prescription, and plans to verify it at a follow up visit before finalizing it. Some measurements were repeated a few times to make sure they were right. I have some known issues with my optic nerve which need monitoring, and they've got the equipment there to do the images for comparison over time. read more

Good place for an eye exam, but glasses and lenses are overpriced as with many places. I spoke with two different opticians about lens choices and both had conflicting recommendations about which lenses, coatings, and other options were needed. In the end, lenses totalled around $500, not including frames. I bought them, but will probably go with Warby Parker in Fremont in the future. read more

Convenient office & professional staff. Really appreciated it that Dr. Taketa was able to fit me in on Dec. 31 as I needed to get in to use my insurance benefit before the year end. I live on the eastside and was a little wary of driving to the U Village area in the late afternoon but it was a breeze and it helped that the office has a convenient parking garage attached to the building. This place is really top notch. Dr. chin is excellent and has shown true interest in seeing that I get the contacts I need, or if not, the eyeglasses. So far, I have gone home with 3 sets of contact lenses to try - all for one modest fitting fee. If they don't work, she will reverse this charge so I can get my full insurance benefit for frames. (My insurer offers one or the other.) You can't beat that. She and her staff are very familiar with my insurance provider. The receptionist, Holly, went to great lengths to find out what my coverage is - on a Saturday. And, she was successful. The eyeglass specialist worked out in detail the various costs and how much my insurance will cover, should I go with frames. No up-selling at all. On top of that, all the people I mentioned are very nice. I'm very favorably impressed. read more

My son gets very uncomfortable with eye exams and in the past has had pretty stressful experiences but when I brought him in to City Eyeworks it was like he was a different person. The front desk staff were so warm and inviting they made us feel comfortable as soon as we walked in the door. Michelle is my all time favorite!!! Pam and Stacey who have seen both my son and I, are so kind, thorough and listens to our concerns. You can ask them anything! From checking in at the front desk to getting fitted for the perfect eyewear, customer satisfaction is their number one priority. I recommend anyone and everyone to walk in or call for an appointment. Very knowledgeable staff that made the process of getting new contacts and glasses very easy. The exam was quick and professional and I am very happy with the products I got from them.
