I had to be at work relatively early in the morning, and this was one of the non-Starbucks locations that was open before 6:30-7am. I really appreciated this, and it wasn't jus the drive-thru that was open, you could also go inside to order I think there was only one barista working, but they were very friendly, professional, and efficient I used the drive-thru, but based on the exterior and peering in through the windows, this spot looks like your typical coffee lounge. It's probably a great place to study or get some work done I only got coffee this morning, and they were fine. They were a little sweet for my liking, but you can ask the for "less pumps" and adjust to your liking. They have coffee, cold brew, espresso-based drinks, tea/chai drinks, etc. They also sell beans so you can make your coffee at home Some tips: They have a reward system where you can get free drinks and other perks for making purchases. A great little coffee chain with a lot of Montana pride, anywhere in the state I would choose city brew over Starbucks on the principal of rooting for the little guy, but this small chain brings high quality coffee and the certainty that your dollar remains in the local economy. A great alternative to Starbucks... they have a good selection of specialty coffees and a really good selection of breakfast burritos. The sun dried tomato is my favorite. This review is based solely on my experience as an employee, and not a customer. Truthfully, City Brew makes an excellent cup of coffee. The staff is very well-trained in their craft, and their professionalism shines through in service. I was hired as part of the first staff at the store across from Billings Senior High School. Two weeks ago today, I had a medical emergency and unfortunately missed my shift. The following Monday (I was not scheduled to work during the weekend), I came back and was informed that I was being let go. In addition to missing work the previous Friday, I was also cited for the three other times I missed work. Here are those three other times: 1) My cousin committed suicide. 2) My girlfriend went into the hospital with DKA and almost died. I missed work so I could care for our 3-year-old. 3) My toddler was exposed to COVID and I quarantined with her for the required time. Missing work is not something I would do for a non-justifiable reason. I am a 46-year-old disabled combat veteran of two foreign wars. Thank you. read more

City brew started out small, but are now on every corner in Billings. That being said, they rarely get my order right which is an iced americano with two Splenda and cream. Shots in ice water. The shots constantly taste burnt or sometimes seem to be absent altogether. No consistency. Today I tried them again after boycotting them for a month. Spent ten dollars, was overcharged, had to correct my order, ask for a straw and the skinny sandwich I ordered was cold in the middle. After days of traveling, I came across City Brew by chance in Billings. I was looking for a different place, and ended up stopping here instead. The environment is relaxing and has a good amount of space. They had four brews ready and fresh. The coffee was great. Not sour or burnt. But great body and taste. I got their medium blend. Great attention to detail here - in fact, as I write this, they are cleaning the glass plates for their drop lighting - who even does that now a days? Glacier Chai was excellent, service was excellent - glad I found this spot on my travels, and would recommend to others traveling thru or in Billings. Only Con was the uncomfortable furniture. I am a regular at City Brew (at several different locations, actually). The coffee is decent with several different brews usually available, and the staff is always extremely friendly and polite. All of their locations are modern and they are always clean. City Brew is my goto spot for getting work done, with a corner table frequently serving as my office for a few hours. The wifi is fast and reliable. Since the new Heights store opened, every location that I am familiar with (including Laurel) has adequate tables, seating, and electrical outlets. Parking is a little challenging at a few locations, particularly the N 27th St. shop. read more

I am a frequent visitor to this shop. I come back for the smiles, and friendly, helpful service! I have tried many of their self-roasted brews, but like their Zimzilla the best. (I have actually started buying a pound each month to 'flavor' my normal coffee at home!) They have a 'one free refill' policy on their regular coffee which is nice if you have to spend the morning doing work via their free Wi-Fi. The store is clean and they have a small, but tasty, selection of baked and fresh snacks to tide one over until the next meal. Best fruit smoothies ANY where! Every store has a drive-thru that is quick and doesn't mind spicing a cup of java however you want it. They must be doing something right, because I can count on every cup, no matter which store I go to, being fresh, strong, and full of flavor! One of the 'Better' places I have found in Billings over the years! If any business can be said to 'deserve' your business, it is these folks! read more

City Brew's are a chain of coffee shops much like Starbucks. I have to admit I like City Brew better. This particular City Brew is just as good as the others, the reason for the 3 stars is the setup sucks beans.. The drivethru creates traffic problems. I'm surprised the city approved a drivethru here, it quickly backs up onto 17th street creating what could be a recipe for a nasty wreck, then it dumps you off right onto Grand, this creates a very slow outflow, cars waiting for cross traffic makes you wait for coffee. If you are unfortunate enough to park in the lot before the drivethru then you are sure to get stuck. read more

Are you joking? Every couple of months I'll give City Brew another try, cause I'm too lazy to drive further. The beans they use are ALWAYS over roasted. The coffee is always way too hot, almost scalding. Seems as if the baristas are given little or no training. I've asked for my coffee at 140 degrees, and they look at me as if they don't have a clue what I'm talking about. Wouldn't touch the 10x wrapped biscuits or rolls or whatever they have under the counter that look as if they've been there for weeks. The place seems to really cater to the elderly crowd. Oh the many nights working on homework when I was growing up here. This coffee shop is an integral chapter in the story of Billings. It's the most "Billings" of anywhere in Billings. First time customer here. We're from Ohio and stayed in Billings, MT. Discovered City Brew which was about a quarter mile from their competition. Thought "what the heck-let's try it out". Very pleased with their product and their coffee actually tastes like real coffee should for me. Also, the atmosphere at City Brew was 100% better than the competition. In the East, most all the comfortable chairs at Starbucks have been replaced with cold hardwood chairs, hoping you don't stick around too long enjoying yourself. So I like to try and support local business, just went through City Brews drive-thru. There is no posting that mentions they charge an extra fifty cents for sugar-free syrups in their coffee. When I asked the window attendant he wasn't sure why the board said it was 3.25 and he was charging me 3.75. I know it's only $0.50 but it sure is a pain in my ass. read more

The coffee here is good, the service is great, except for one employee very small very thin almost anorexic looking and very white I think her name was Angel. She was making drinks, it wasn't very busy so I know she made my drink. The coffee tasted so burnt. She was extremely rude to the other employees and the customers. And I was very taken by the use of the n word the multiple times she would say it. On a positive note I have been here many other times and it's always good. I have a pet peeve when it comes to coffee shops that they usually only carry soy milk (oh and cow milk). This includes Starbucks and Caribou and other coffee chains I have been to and dang it gets me mad cause I really dislike the aftertaste of soy milk. But wow, here in Billings the coffee chain has almond milk and rice milk in addition to soy and cow! Holy moly! I love a nice steamed almond or rice milk with a shot of vanilla and I can actually get that here! I have also had their herbal ice tea which was nice (cranberry, I think) and their banana bread. I haven't had their coffee yet but it seems popular enough. I have sat in this location when i did not have internet at home and it's pretty comfortable and I was able to get what I needed done, the connection is good. I would probably usually only give this 4 stars but they do get an extra star for carrying almond milk and rice milk! Yay! read more
