Came here for the first time on a Sunday for lunch. It is located in its own individual standalone building and has its own parking lot with ample parking. Once you walk in, you walk up to a counter place your order and they will call out your name on the order is ready for pick up. There is also a fully self service station for sauces as well as Takeaway boxes if you need them. The menu offers a lot of different combinations and samplers and meats from pork to chicken. The sides are also a little bit unique in the sense that the vegetable sides also have added bacon, which is great to see. I personally love to see hush puppies, which is a very antiquated and rare to find option for food. And they did not disappoint. Overall, I would say from the sampler of the ribs and the chicken were fantastic as well as the pulled pork. The brisket was OK, but did not necessarily stand out. We did try four different barbecue sauces, which were all fantastic. The hush puppies as I stated earlier were absolutely delicious and I would come back just for these. We also got the corn pudding, which was a little bit on the sweeter side, but made and baked fresh just like everything else here. And this was a great alternative to cornbread. To top it all off, the staff here was so super nice, especially the young man at the counter when you first walked in as he also offered up a sample of the corn pudding because I've never heard of corn pudding nor did I ever tried it and this was also my first visit. I came in with low expectations. We were driving back from CIN to Chicago and stopped for a quick lunch. OMG we were totally blown away by how tender the brisket was. 19 hours under smoke. It was unbelievable and they give you nice portion for the sandwich. The fries are extra but man are they good. They know how to get crisp outside and almost creamy inside. I saw they had a pork belly burnt ends as a special so I had to order. The staff are super friendly and helpful. They have 4 or 5 sauces that you serve yourself. I mixed a couple. Started out great with the person taking our order. The food however, when we received it mine was on the room temperature side, and lacked any seasoning. The sauces were good but couldn't make up for the missing seasoning on the meats. I had the 2 meat 2 side, brisket, pulled pork, with greens and baked beans. Now the side had a lot of flavor to them and was better than the meats. (In my opinion) Also ordered was the More Cowbell and the chicken tenders with fries. Those were delicious and warm. The place strikes me as a corporate type restaurant and not a family run one. I'm glad I checked it out. I am a BIG fan of the smoked turkey here. It's really delicious and lean. Get the turkey sandwich and upgrade to Texas toast...worth it. I love having all the different bbq sauces on the side to dip. The banana pudding always slaps! The potato salad is also really good. Not a huge fan of the Mac and cheese or corn bread. I've had brisket and pulled pork here too that was also really nice. No no no. Definitely not a place for locals to find good barbecue. They will have to depend on people coming off the interstate. Brisket was like shoe leather and cold. We had a really good experience at City BBQ Lafayette and would highly recommend. Some reviews said the food was dry and not worth it, but our experience was great. It all tasted pretty good to be honest. There's plenty of sides to choose from but my recommendations are: baked beans, corn pudding and green beans. The staff was very friendly and provided recommendations on what to try. You can also get a free sample of anything before you order to see if that's what you want. Somewhat pricier than most restaurants, but there wasn't any line. The food came out fast, which is a plus with kids. There are some kids menu items available. Placed extensive order. The order was incorrect. I drove a ways to get to the restaurant. T In an effort to receive satisfaction, I handed the bag back to the nice young man at the window. He returned with the manager (Jennifer). She came to the window with a salty attitude. She explained the slab of ribs can not be ordered uncut. I explained that there is an option on the online menu to order the ribs uncut. I ordered uncut, but the ribs are cut by individual bones. My desire is to not have individual bones. If uncut is not an option, that option should be taken off the menu. Jennifer proceeded to hand the container of ribs to me without placing them into a bag. I stopped in on my way back from Nashville and was still in a barbecue state of mind. Having just some of the best Nashville had to offer, I was hoping this place would measure up. It did! I had the pulled chicken sandwich with lots of their "brushfire" sauce, some fries doused in "swine wine", and some seasonal cucumbers with onions and vinaigrette. Everything was delicious. I had an issue with fries coming out and when I had to back up they admitted they totally forgot. They even offered me a free dessert because of it (which I didn't accept). We've given City BBQ 2 chances. The first time we ordered an hour and a half before closing and puckedbup our food where they explained that they were out of the full amout of our sides. So the MGR just gave us what they had left of the odds and ends which was an ok compromise for a hungry house. Tonight, we made an order online, placed it at 6:15 for an 8:15 pick up. I finally took the time to try out City BBQ with a little take out. I ordered brisket sandwiches, BBQ beans with brisket, and creamy cole slaw. the brisket sandwiches were good if a bit dry. The bread held together well. I tried the spicy BBQ sauce and liked it. Also tried the house sauce and it had good flavor. The BBQ beans were the star and I could eat a double order of those! This is my favorite place for BBQ in the West Lafayette/Lafayette area. I have had the brisket, turkey, and ribs, and never been disappointed in any of them. (I initially thought the brisket looked a bit dry but it actually tasted great.) The corn pudding makes an excellent side dish, and the fries are a cut above standard restaurant fries. I've not had their corn bread rolls, but my wife speaks highly of them. The restaurant offers a wide variety of sauces, both in small containers (free with most or all meals) or in bottles (for a fee). The LowCo mustard-based sauce is good, but has kind of a kick to it. The Original and Sweet City sauces are also very good. Delivery works quite well. The food I ordered yesterday actually arrived a few minutes early and the order was completely accurate. Prices seem a bit high (especially if you get the food delivered, as I do), but they usually offer discounts if you join their loyalty club. Yesterday, for example, I had a delivery order of a pound of brisket, an individual order of corn pudding, and a single corn bread roll. The total with fees and tip came to 42 dollars and change, which I would ordinarily not have sprung for for a pound of meat and two sides, but I had a ten-dollar off promotion, which brought the meal down to a more reasonable amount. I don't know when the next ten buck discount will roll out, but I hope it's soon. read more

My daughter and I had dinner at city barbecue when we visited the Purdue campus. The barbecue was good and the portions were plentiful. We had one of those sampler platters that had a bit of everything on it. I think we both liked the pork ribs the best. Chicken was tasty too.
