If you like dry pulled pork and burnt ribs this is the place for you. The beer wasn't even cold. I'll never go back!!!

Be sure and bring your own flypaper - this place was swarming with flies... felt like a real outdoor barbecue. I realize I represent a minority opinion here having to eat gluten free - but their menu was extremely limited. We had called ahead and they claimed to have a menu but it was so limited that I sat around and watched others eat - they weren't sure which of the meats and sauces were gluten free either. I had the french fries, which were dark, greasy and overcooked. Add to all of this that you have to eat out of plastic and paper containers (really, how much waste are we trying to generate in a single meal?) - I am not a fan. Will not be returning. read more

The BBQ is really very good and authentic, best of the chains by a long shot. Add to that live music on certain weekend nights, and you have a place to eat that is a notch above most other restaurants in the Eastgate area. The only thing I don't care for is the stand in line to order your food, get your own setups and drinks model. It's not like their prices are any lower than other BBQ joint that is full service (other than the Montgomery Inn chain, but that's not real BBQ anyway.) As far as what to get, get anything that sounds good to you, because it will be. read more

6 friends and I drove to Cincinnati from DC to run the Flying Pigs Marathon or Half Marathon. On our way back to DC post race (5/6/12) we pulled off the highway for lunch. A friend and I decided to go to City Barbeque. The women behind the counter were pleasant and very helpful. I ordered the pulled pork and a side of hush puppies. The BBQ here is not pre-sauced so you get to select your own. I got the original and the sweet, both of which were wonderful and the combination of the two was even better. The pork was tender and tasty even without the sauce. The hush puppies were a little hard but still nice. I would most definitely stop in here again the next time I am in Cincinnati. read more

City Barbeque I hate you. You violate my #1 rule of a truly great bbq joint---you can't be a chain/franchise. But you are, and everything you have is great. I've had the pulled pork and the ribs. Pulled pork for lunches, ribs for dinners. When I order the pulled pork, I order extra bark. The meat is plenty, has good flavor, and the extra bark adds that extra zing. The ribs are baby back, but still have plenty of meat on them, again with a good smoke flavor. They have plenty of sauces, but I stick with the original and the spicy. Both have good, complex flavor and thickness. The sides are equally great. Fries apparently are cooked to order, because every time I order them, I pause a moment because the register person immediately yells to the kitchen of a new order of fries. The slaw is a vinegar slaw, which is wonderfully sweet and vinegary. The baked beans are in a nice thick sauce with bits of meat in them. City Barbeque continues to be my fave ribs place in Cincinnati, in my opinion much better than Eli's, and rivaling some ribs joints I've been to in Kansas City and Memphis. read more

We ordered two racks of ribs because we had company. We previously have been very pleased with the ribs but not today. They were dry and burnt. If they are going to sell an inferior product they should discount the food. I am terribly disappointed. read more

Fresh, Smokey Pulled pork, brisket, and ribs. Everything was super moist. Speedy service

Hmm.... I was expecting more. I got a 1/2lb brisket sandwich, fries, mac and cheese, and 2 rib bones. I got this to go for lunch with a 5ish minute drive back to my office. Let me start positively. The staff was great. Very friendly, helpful, and courteous. This is really the only thing that would have earned a star. The building/atmosphere is pretty good, and well designed inside. It certainly smells great! Brisket sandwich: This had almost no flavor(a consistent theme with the rest of the food). I had to douse it in sauce to make it taste like anything. The texture was pretty good, though. Moist, slightly crispy on the ends. Ribs: The ribs were ok. Mushy and fatty, but they did fall off the bone. I'm glad it came with sauce, I don't think they would have held up at all dry. Sides: This was absolutely the worst part of the meal. The fries had a great texture/crispness, but just had an off/sour flavor to them. Maybe it was old oil? These could be great fries, but fell very flat. The mac and cheese was bland, and flavorless. I had to add salt/pepper to get it to even remotely taste of 'cheese'. Very, very mushy pasta as well. To top it off, there was a hair in it. Yuck. I usually like to give restaurants a second try after I have a bad experience. I'm not sure I can bring myself to come back, though. Sorry City BBQ, but I would recommend you stay away. read more

The staff is so so friendly, the atmosphere is fun and clean AND the food is so great!! Fries are amazing. Love that they always have the jalapeños and pickles out for you to grab. It's a great delicious place. YUM! read more

I was happy to find this place while passing through. I ordered pulled pork, corn pudding and hush puppies. The pork was moist, tasted great and went well with the vinegar sauce I topped it with. The corn pudding was delicious and left me wanting for more. The hush puppies were tasty though I do prefer a sweeter puppy. The staff was very friendly and helpful. If I ever pass through again I'll stop and eat again in a heartbeat. read more

Customer service was amazing, Jim took my order and was very nice as well as everyone else. Food... Amazing as always. The banana pudding was delicious. My sweet tea was perfect. Can't wait to come back. Thanks to everyone at this location. Good customer service is hard to find these days, but not here. read more

I'm so glad they are still open and serving food for take out. The food is always fantastic. They're always friendly and helpful. I'm a big fan of the brisket. Whether in a sandwich or just a big tray full, it's spectacular. I hear the different sauces are good but I personally wouldn't want to cover up the smoked goodness they've created. All the side dishes taste great and complement any protein you decide on. If you haven't tried City Barbecue, you're missing out. If haven't been in a while. You might want to pick some up for your next meal. read more

I am not a BBQ sauce fan. Saying this I love pulled pork, chicken, brisket and everything associated with bbq joints haha. Their brisket is always good and I enjoy their chicken and pork but definitely prefer the brisket but sometimes it is a good amount of fat. Sides- the fresh cut french fries are like Penn Station but IMO better and the cheese sauce they have is awesome! Green beans - these are my favorite. Have to get them everytime! Boyfriend always gets the greens and loves them. Service is always great at any City BBQ we go to so this one is not any different. This location does not have mashed potatoes which is the only bummer. read more

What a great BBQ place. Lots of food and very tasty. Cafeteria style, so don't be surprised by that. But the pork sandwich was awesome, hand cut fries great, and my wife loved her smoked turkey sandwich. LOTS of turkey on it. Plenty of great sauces too. Very good. Family got half a chicken which looked great too. Awesome place. read more

Friendly and welcoming staff as soon as you walk in the door. Store is always clean and food is served quick and hot! Love Eastgate City BBQ!!! read more

Eating these ribs felt like I was eating a tire. Horrible taste, and rough as granite. No tenderness at all. The packaging was also very inconvenient. All items were just rapped in paper opposed to being in a container, or even a to go box. On top of that they charged $10.00 more than any other Rib joints in the area. This establishment is obviously a scam. I will actively tell anyone and everyone I meet never to eat their food. read more

I waited until the last minute to order sides for our Easter lunch. When I did order Jim the manager was very accommodating and Taylor was very friendly and didn't make me feel as if I was a slacker for waiting until the last minute when they were so busy! I will definitely be back. Great customer service! read more

Kenny C I have eaten their twice and the food is great, atmosphere relaxing and the ribs are great, also the price is right. What more can I say. Can't wait to get back to Cincinnati from West Virginia again to visit read more

Great service great people clean facility amazing food would recommend to all my friends!

People behind counter had no masks on watched the berate a customer last night trying to get food for him and his son that forgot their mask on December 7th. Why enforce something that u urself did not follow. Top it off our brisket was all fat and no meat. Will not be back. I'll stick to dickie's. read more

I was most definitely not pleased with this place. The cashier was not polite nor helpful, as this was my first time being there. The brisket was not very good, onions and pickles at the condiment table were basically empty, the hush puppies had NO flavor, nor did the Mac and cheese. The only good thing about this place was the beer and sauce. Wouldn't recommend this place, and don't plan on going back. read more

I order the half chicken and this is the worst chicken I ever had , there is no flavor at all, just plain chicken , even Costco roast chicken taste better than this , if you put BBQ sauce on it , then the favor is too strong , it's doesn't taste like chicken anymore , I had similar chicken at other BBQ places way better but I still give it 2 stars because it's tender . read more

I dined at the Florence location Saturday night and the food was just fantastic. I got lucky and got there between rushes, so we immediately placed our order and were eating within a few minutes. Score. About 10 minutes after we started eating, I noticed that the line grew to about 20 people, but they've got the ordering/delivering down to such a science that the line goes down pretty quick. We ordered the City Sampler that included turkey, sausage, pulled pork and brisket. While we could go on and on comparing different restaurant's styles of BBQing, City BBQ just flat out does it right. All were perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection - there was not a dog in the bunch. I especially liked the side dishes. We had the mac and cheese (my daughter's fav) and gumbo. You rarlely see gumbo served at a BBQ restaurant but they really do a great job with it. I've eaten there before and I can also vouch for the beans, corn bread and corn pudding and they were delicious also. We did not order the ribs, but I've had them before and they we also great. read more

Helpful and friendly staff in a causal environment! The city sampler was more than enough food for myself and teen son. We had brisket, sausage, Turkey, fries, green beens and toast. The sweet tea is on point! Beware the swine wine for your fries! kinda spicy! Been here before and will be coming back. read more

Nothing special about this place at all its very terrible meat quality it really reminds of buffet quality food for a higher price and less food tbh and this isn't a tried it once and called it a review I've been to multiple locations several times and it's always the same quality food and average service read more

The staff and manager here were so kind and friendly. They seemed like they really enjoyed working together and were working together. They were attentive to when we were at the register and checked on us after we were done. The food was delicious and had no issues! Thank you Eastgate city bbq for the excellent dining experience! read more

Wow - place has great bbq. I smoke cheeses and meats as a hobby and this place ranks high in my opinion. The food was fresh and had a genuine smoke ring. Most place put "smoke flavor" on the food and makes it taste like crap. The smoke ring here was real and the spices were awesome. Wish I lived here as I would be here all the time. read more

We are regulars here and they have always made us feel like valued customers. My favorites are the full-cut brisket, collard greens and the corn pudding. Don't miss the sweet potato casserole when it is in season - yummy and just like a dessert. We enjoy the seasonal rotation of sides and desserts. read more

Food came out very fast! Collards were great. Peach cobbler with homemade whip cream was delish!

We love barbecue, we even have our own outdoor smoker so I'll say if not experts, we are more than tourists to the land of smokey deliciousness. We've learned to get the deluxe platters or family pack and share - it's cheaper and you get more variety than getting 2 separate sandwich platters. Their iced tea is delicious and they have a good selection of bottled soda and beer. Visit on Tuesday nights - it's just $1 per rib! The staff is always friendly and willing to give you samples if you're struggling with commitment. read more

Just what the doctor ordered. True down home smoked brisket served with a variety of sauces - original, hot, sweet, vinegar, and mustard - all good and I tried them all. Those saying they don"t have enough sauces can't count. Yes the menu is limited but to me that helps keep it simple. Sides were solid including mac & cheese and slaw. A bucket of bottled drink options includes beer. There is a relaxed friendly vibe to this place and the staff is with it. Top it off with some rockabilly music and I had fun! read more

We placed a large order last week for our staff at work! 21 separate orders. The food was great, all the orders were correct, and the staff was very helpful and easy to work with. We will definitely be back! As a matter of fact, my family is having dinner there tonight! read more

Twenty-two of our staff ordered lunch. We dropped off our order the day before and they had it ready to pick up on time. They even took the time to label each bag so it was easy to sort the orders. The food was hot and delicious. Each bag included plasticware and they provided extra sauce. City Barbeque was so easy to work with and went the extra mile to ensure we had everything we needed. Thank you! read more

Was pretty good, a bit pricey for what it is though. Serving sizes were alright! I felt the pork was a bit mushy and could have been cooked a bit longer. Not my favorite BBQ place but I'd go back to give it another chance. read more

Just had my first meal here upon arriving in Cincinnati. Oh my!! Husband and I were welcomed and given a helpful introduction to the menu. After ordering our lunch specials the manager also offered us samples of additional sides to try. All of the food was very good, including the pulled pork and the brisket sandwiches, but what impressed me the most was the excellent collards (possibly best ever), slaw, and baked beans with brisket. Their original BBQ sauce was also excellent. I can't wait to return for another meal!! read more

The food here is amazing and perfectly smoked. There are numerous sauces which are really good, too. The sides were excellent. Had the hush puppies, fries, Mac and cheese, and collard greens. We will be back next time we are in town. read more

Love the food! The smokey smell, bluesy music and rough, barn wood decor are very nice. Even sent my husband to buy their ranch for my salad (because it is awesome!), and they were very generous. Definitely a great place to eat! read more

I have been to severaly City BBQ locations, and this one is pretty much the same. BBQ should be juicy and flavorful, but City BBQ is just plain bland. I usually have to drench my meat in their sub par sauce. Their sides are simialarly bland and unoriginal. The portions are pretty small for the price. We were just glad we checked our take out bag before leaving, because they forgot my husband's BBQ brisket! read more
