Have you ever had a wedding in a hurricane, we did, and DelightMore helped to save the event. I am the father of the bride, but did not participate in the planning. My daughter told me that DelightMore was very easy to work with before the event. We had the wedding on Friday evening 9/29/2024 at Ault Park during the height of hurricane Helene. Before the wedding could start, we moved to plan D and moved the guest tables to the two side rooms in the pavilion because the wind and rain was drenching the normal seating area in the center area. Also, we were in candlelight because the power was knocked out due to the storm. DelightMore made the best of it and more. They adapted their plan to make it all work in spite of the challenge. Karen and Jarad were on-site working to make it all work. They changed staff responsibilities because some of their staff was unable to make it to the park due to the storm. Jarad came to talk to me before the meal was served to tell me their plan of serving one room at a time and that our room's meal would be delayed but they would do the best they could. We then got our bread and salads within a few minutes of us sitting down. The main course may have been delayed a few minutes longer than they hoped for us, but it wasn't very delayed. The meal was still delicious and freshly made on site using generators they brought to the event. The staff was kind and worked through all of the changes and the tightly packed room setting. Jarad followed up after the meal was served to make sure everything worked out ok. DelightMore exceeded my expectations by their execution and concern for the customer. I can't thank DelightMore enough and would recommend them to anyone planning an event, especially during a natural disaster. read more

Wow! Have to say i am incredibly impressed by the culinary team at a recent event while at a conference in Cincinnati. This was our Gala Awards dinner. Upon entering the dinner, the first thing I noted is that they preset tickets where guests with dietary meals would be seated. Being a vegan, this was great to know they were already aware and focused on making sure guests were delivered the right meal. The food was all great for both dietary restrictions and the regular guests. Including photos as I think they speak more for the experience. What I appreciated is that they took the time to develop options where everyone received the same presentation and quantity of food. The biggest compliment is that plates did not return full as guests enjoyed everything - and I left full and very happy with the experience. Staff was also very friendly throughout the experience, from arrival with drinks, bartenders and service staff. read more

This may seem like an odd review especially considering the difficult times the food business is facing. And I'm not reviewing the catering. But there's more to a business than what the customer sees. This is about a company that is cheating some of its staff. In this case, the owners of the company have not given the workers any of the tips from events they worked for several months. This was just coming to light when the crisis hit. And to make matters worse, they sent an email offering to sell their remaining non-food supplies "to help out their workers". I don't support businesses that lack integrity and are willing to exploit these hard working people, many of whom have families to feed. So many small restaurants are trying hard to help their workers as well as the community. When things return to normal, consider if this is a business you want to patronize. read more

Funky's catered our company holiday party this year. The end product of the food was beautiful (see my photos), and mostly delicious. The process of working with them was sometimes slow, and we had to call or email a couple of times to get our proposal or invoice updated as we made changes or updated head counts. But they always got back to us eventually. They have a very extensive list of menu options which they were a little hesitant to give to us to choose from, but their initial suggestions were a little off base for what we wanted. We always do a bunch of appetizers so people can mingle while they eat, but definitely try to get more than enough food so that people don't leave hungry. Once we got the list of appetizers from them, there were some clear winners, like the flank steak crostini and vegetarian tacos. We ended up doubling our original proposal list! At the event, everything was prepared on site, which I really appreciated. Last years' caterers (a different company) prepared everything at their facility and simply brought it over shrink wrapped. The Funky's staff prepared as they went and replenished plates when needed, which I liked a lot. The whole team was very friendly during the event and the bartender Ken was specifically awesome, creating two "signature drinks" for the night with just a few suggestions of what we like.The food was mostly delicious (the meatballs and smoked salmon pinwheels were the least favorite of our group). However, the portions were quite small, even for appetizers, I thought, mostly one-bite things. I would recommend working with them as long as you as an event planner know what you're looking for and how to keep the process moving, because overall I really liked Funky's food and their team. read more

Funky's catered my friends' wedding a couple years ago and I thought the food was great, so I went to them for my 40th birthday party. The theme was a wine tasting party, and I didn't specifically want a sit down dinner. I wanted stuff that I could just heat up and put on chafers/warmers. Unfortunately, there was a breakdown in communication between the person I was in contact with and their kitchen. They had food heat and prepared for me to serve hours before my party. Mike, the owner, personally addressed the problem. We were more or less able to get things set up so that my party was not a complete disaster. While I waited, multiple random staff members also saw me standing there, obviously upset, and asked if they could help, even though it wasn't their job. Their customer service and professionalism went above and beyond what I expected. Because of that, they've earned my return business for events to come. We used Funky's for our thanksgiving meal. With three kids under 6 and having just done a cross-country move, I wasn't going to cook this year. They had many scrumptious holiday meal packages to choose from. We chose sliced turkey with sides and rolls. The turkey and boursin mashed potatoes/gravy were the stars for sure! We were disappointed in the (extremely EXTREMELY crunchy) al dente glazed carrots and the rolls were stale (and no butter included). Next year when we order again we will do some different sides, but the meal overall was very good. Gravy was outstanding, I would dip anything in it! I recently attended a wedding that was catered by Funky's and it was superb - they have grown leaps and bounds over the past few years. Their servers were on top of making sure I had a but free salad - something I didn't expect. As someone allergic to tree nuts, I have learned that I usually am just out of luck and will skip eating the salad. We were then served short rib that fell off the bone - delicious! There was a vegetarian option that I heard was very good as well. With hundreds of guests, everyone was applauding the dinner all night! read more

Wedding catering - highly recommend. The food was amazing (just like it was when we tasted). Every guest that talked to us about food had a favorite and all items were mentioned several times! Our captain Davidson was a dream day of, everything went smoothly and I had no worries. Prior to the event, Davidson hosted a final details meeting and everything was set and replicated just as we talked about. A couple months before the event, we worked with our design coordinator Cecilia and she helped us come up with the linen colors and feel or theme we wanted to achieve and the final result was spot on! Throughout the initial tasting, Seth added a few items we had left off our requests that were crowd favorites and we even ended up selecting one of those! My fiancée and I went in for a tasting at Funky's which took 3 hours during which Jerin, one of the owners, spent the better part of our night espousing what wonderful customer service they have and how they are building life long customers not just customers for one night. Although it was a long tasting, I really did like Funky's at first. Fast forward 3 weeks, I still have not received the proposal from my tasting (because they won't send you any pricing until you do a tasting). Jerin told me it took so long because they were so busy doing tastings. Well, that's great that you have so much business but there's a point where you have to decide if having so much business is causing your customer service, that seemed to be very important to them, to diminish. I reviewed the proposal, decided I wanted to change a few things and requested a new one with the changes. That was a month ago, and I still have yet to hear back from them. I think it is ridiculous to go on and on about how they are building relationships when they can't even return emails timely. If this is how they are going to treat me before they have my money, you can be sure they aren't going to get my business. read more

My wedding/reception venue has a list of caterers to choose from. Funky's, being on the list, was one that I looked into. I browsed their website and then filled out their information request form (no email address was given) as directed by the site. I sent 3 separate requests (all the same information because it was unclear if anything was actually sending and I hadn't heard back) over the span of 2 weeks. I received no reply. Ever. Even stranger than that, was that when I sent them an email, through their online form mind you, what I once got back from them saying they had received the information, was flagged by Gmail as suspicious or possible spam, or not belonging to the person that claimed to be sending the mail. Not comforting. I tried several times to contact them through the avenue they suggested and then finally called when my patience ran out. I think one 'receipt of information' email had a phone number? At that time there was some story about someone on vacation, out sick, etc. That was fine, but I also explained this had been going on for some time. The girl I talked to was apologetic and took my information (for the 4th time, I guess they just didn't get, or she couldn't access, what I sent via their site page?) and promised a quote that day. She then called back to say all the 'managers' or some equivalent thereof were out for a few days and she couldn't send anything to me without their approval. Again, fine, but not helping me feel at all safe about them as a business. When she finally sent the quote to me days later, the food choices were weird. I have adventurous taste buds, but my family does not. I gave her an idea, based on their website, of what we were looking for, but what I got back seemed anything but what I suggested. In the end I didn't respond to the menu, quote, or the proposal to set up a tasting. Perhaps that was rude, but the entire experience with them was slow, negative, and inspired little confidence that they'd do anything right going forward. More surprisingly, perhaps, was that after acting so apologetic for the 'confusion' or difficulties, was that when I didn't respond to their proposal, there was no follow up to see what was going on. I'm perfectly happy to be left alone if I don't respond, but I thought it odd that they'd act so lackadaisical about customers who were already a tad disgruntled, and particularly ones who were trying to work with them despite their repeated shortcomings. I have heard the food from Funky's is good. Their business operation and scheduling, however, precluded me from having any interest in working with them. If this is how the operate, I have no idea how they stay in business. I'm not a high stress bride, but working with them got on my nerves. If you're looking for people who respond, try Chef's Choice. Funky's was the caterer that my husband and I chose for our June 8th, 2013 wedding at French Park in Amberley Village. Funky's was attentive and knowledgeable throughout the planning, tasting and execution phases of our event. Michael, Lauren and the rest of their team went above and beyond to ensure that we could rely on them for everything food and drink related for the wedding. We did a served dinner option with wine service for our 110 guests. The entire Funky's team was on point the evening of the event from start to finish, and in all of our meetings and communication leading up to June 8th. We had so many compliments from our guests about the quality of food and service they provided at the wedding. It was all very seamless and wonderful. In addition to providing the food for our event, Michael went above and beyond in connecting us to the man who ultimately became the officiant for our nuptials, and someone we also now consider a lifelong friend. All in all, the entire experience of working with Michael and Funky's was a wonderful one and we would highly recommend them and will be sure to use them again as a caterer for any event we may host in the future. read more

AMAZING! Our son was married in December 2013. I cannot think of a thing that went wrong. From the tasting to the rehearsal to the wedding. Everything was PERFECT. I did not have to worry anything. Their food was delicious and our guests are STILL talking about it. The service was top notch. Funky's created a menu to fit not only our budget but exactly what we envisioned. Ashley was the captain for both the rehearsal dinner and the wedding reception. She was aware of who was who that may have needed a special meal. Went to an event that was catered by Funky's recently. Food was not impressive at all. Balsamic chicken was served in a wine sauce but the chicken was so dried out that it was barely edible. Flank steak with Mushroom Au Jus was pretty good if you like your steak rare. Which I don't have a problem with but for many it was a problem. I didn't have the baked eggplant parmesan but it smelled good. Desserts were served still frozen. read more

They do a great job with proteins (flavorful halibut and beef brisket), and their flourless chocolate cake with raspberry coulis is consistently a fan favorite. Basically, just as we were arriving at the venue (Newport Aquarium), it started down pouring rain (torrential thunderstorm) and we had no way to get from our limo to the aquarium without getting soaked (even with umbrellas). Funky's offered to shuttle us using their van to the loading dock in the back of the building so we wouldn't have to walk through the torrential rain & wind. They went out of their way to ensure our event went as well as possible - down to the smallest details. Thank you, Funkys! The food at our wedding was fantastic!!! The guests were constantly complimenting us on the food. During the tasting, I brought 5 people with me and they fed us all. We got to try so much food and many different drinks! It was a blast! The actual day of, the appetizers were handed out perfectly and they all looked so fancy! The actual meal was brought out with great presentation and all options were fantastic. We also did a cheese coney/ chicago style hot dog late night snack and the guests loved it. I hired Funky's recently for my daughter's graduation party. Although I had initial problems getting in touch with them on their website, I was very impressed with their creative menu and the price. I had compared multiple catering offerings, including the Montgomery Inn and Funky's price was very competitive. They also didn't nickel and dime me, unlike the other catering companies. They arrived on tim for the event, were highly professional (and accommodating) and the food was absolutely outstanding. We received numerous positive comments from our guests. I used Funky's for my wedding. I had visited 4 caterers prior to Funky's and was not too impressed. Funky's was very attentive during the tasting. They asked a lot of questions and provided a lot of good suggestions. I feel they really cared about what I wanted for food and our budget. They provided costs for numerous variations of some of the dishes, which was extremely helpful. They were responsive to both emails and phone calls. During the wedding, the "captain" was extremely attentive and very professional. Now to the food...It was amazing. I had so many compliments on the food. My husband and I were still talking about it on our honeymoon. We had fish, pasta stations, and beef. I was a little nervous about having fish because it can go so wrong if not done perfectly, but it was the best part. They use such unique and creative flavors that all just fit together perfectly. Their deserts are also amazing. I would recommend going with a smaller wedding cake and using Funky's desserts. I would highly recommend Funky's. read more

I reached out to Funky's about catering my wedding. After a few weeks of no response, we were finally able to connect and set up a tasting. Jarren, a manager, greeted us at the door and was extremely rude, later said he was "joking". Had a good tasting with Michael and were planning to move forward. We went to a wedding the next weekend and Funky's happened to be catering- and we saw Jarren there. He told the groom he needed to sit down instead of take photos because dinner was about to be served. Rude. Funky's sent us our quote. We replied back with some additions and changes and we never heard back. I emailed once a week for FIVE weeks and received no response. Needless to say we signed a contract with a different caterer. Three months later, I received a follow up email from Funky's asking if we were ready to put down the deposit. Don't waste your time. read more

Funky's catered our daughter's outdoor wedding on June 22, 2013 at our farm about an hour drive from Funky's base. Ashley and Brian, our chef, made two visits to our farm to make sure all the details would be planned out. Funky's staff served hot and cold horderves during a cocktail hour, table served the dinner salad and staffed the bar that we provided. A buffet dinner was served under a tent for 160 guests. All the food was fantastic. Many of our guests went out of their way to compliment us about the food and Funky's service. The one hour travel distance did not effect the quality even though the evening was hot and humid but no rain! We were very impressed with the professionalism of the entire staff throughout the two tastings, planning and the night of the wedding. We had several unique request because we had the wedding outdoors and the reception at our farm. Funky's pulled it all off without missing a beat. I told Michael that if our second daughter wanted to have her wedding at our farm we would hire Funky's again. Well done by all the Funky's staff and a special thank you to Ashley. read more

Each time I called, anyone was able to pull up my account, and speak with me about it because the internal communication is fantastic. I mostly worked with Jerin, who was available to chat at almost any time of the day or night. Whether it was a question about food allergies, or logistics, Jerin was knowledgeable and ready for suggestions if I asked for them. Suzy was the captain at my event, and she is fantastic. She was organized, and I only had to tell her what my vision was once, and she made it happen. The guests at my event raved about both the food, and the service. The working relationship I had with Funky's was a dream, and I am feeling a bit of a void now that it is over. Continued from my previous review... Day-of-details: As we were initially promised, Funky's did a great job of helping with set-up and tear-down. We had our marriage ceremony downstairs and when we moved upstairs for the dinner, Funky's staff removed all the ceremony chairs and helped set up for dancing. The space looked great and they did this easily and quickly with the direction of the venue owner and my day-of coordinator. So here's the annoying part...throughout the wedding planning process I struggled quite a bit with what chairs to rent for the ceremony and reception. I went back and forth many times and finally decided on the white folding garden chairs. Well, the day of the wedding rolls around and as I get to the venue I see that the ceremony chairs are completely wrong. Not only are they wrong, but they are hideous. So ugly. When I confronted our team leader about this issue, she said that apparently Funky's owner (Michael Forgus) switched out the chairs without notifying us. The ugly chairs would be easier for them to remove and switch over after the ceremony. Umm...so when does it matter what's easier for the caterer??? I chose and was willing to pay for the other chairs and the catering company couldn't even bother to inform us. I guess this is another example of poor communication. So. Damn. Annoying. Those nasty chairs are going to haunt me for quite some time. Professionalism: Funky's excuses became really annoying throughout the wedding planning process. The biggest excuse we got on a regular basis was that they couldn't get back to us in a timely manner because they "were really busy this time of year". Seriously? Isn't this their business? Aren't they always busy? Didn't you have over 7 months to work on this wedding? If you're a catering company this is never an acceptable excuse. Another issue we had? When working with the owner himself he used the timeless tactic of trying to pit my husband and I against each other. While talking to him on the phone, Michael tried to convince me that he had given my husband information that had never been given out. When I informed him that my husband was sitting right next to me listening to the conversation, he suddenly stopped mentioning my husband altogether. Please don't try to pit your customers against each other...especially when they're about to get married. I was really disappointed in Funky's lack of professionalism. Alright, I guess I'll stop there. Sorry for the lengthy reviews, but I wish I would have had such detailed information when planning my event. Hopefully these will be of use to people in the future. Funky's Catering is not a horrible company and there are definitely some pros to booking with them. But unfortunately, in my opinion, the cons outweighed the positives. All in all, if I could do it all again (which I have absolutely no interest in doing after all that crazy wedding planning), I would not ask Funky's to cater my wedding. read more

Our captain, Tyrone, put us at ease when we met with him a few weeks before the wedding. We knew he had everything under control. One of the most unprofessional catering companies I have ever seen, poor on all levels. My advice if you are looking for poor service, terrible food, horrible presentation, servers that could care less, and an owner that harasses you two days later to argue with you, then hang up on you twice, then stalk you again via phone for a total of 8 times with in two hours. Please choose this cater. Shocked at what I experienced , shocked at what I paid for and received instead, and definitely more appalled at how the owner and staff handled themselves afterwards.don't waste your time, money or energy with place if you want a good event and expect to be treated with any sort of respect. My wedding was June 3rd, and my now-husband and I chose Funky's as the caterer, as they were a preferred vendor with our venue. I described what we were interested in when making the tasting appointment, and when we had the appointment, everything was delicious. We made a few small changes and decided on a couple appetizers based on description. The usual! I left feeling confident in their ability to cater the event, and I'm kind of a control freak, so it was nice to feel assured. Main reason for four stars instead of five: about two months out from the wedding, we needed to decide on how to handle the alcohol; our wedding was going to entail only 40 guests, with a decent number of them being non-drinkers or light drinkers. As with most caterers, the "per drink" method was silly and high, something like $3 per beer, even if it's a domestic that would cost only 6 bucks for a 6-pack. But that's all caterers. They had a flat rate per person option, too, but that was too pricey given that many of our guests don't drink, and many others wouldn't have all 3 of the drinks the "per person" price entailed. They mentioned a third option, which was to have alcohol that we purchased on our own delivered to the venue; they said they could serve it for no additional charge. Perfect! The issue arose when we repeatedly tried to contact Funky's, via phone and via email, and received either no response or confused responses on more than one occasion; for instance, one time I called to inform them of our choice, and the man I spoke to kept saying that he couldn't tell me if our venue allowed alcohol delivery. I told him we'd already confirmed it with the venue. He repeated that they could only do this option if the venue is okay with it. I told him, AGAIN, that the venue WAS okay with it. This went on and on. So, some of the communication was frustrating. Two weeks before the wedding, however, everything went back to being great. We met our Team Captain, and she was very helpful, from arranging a special meal for a guest with a VERY restricted diet, to ensuring my husband and I had our preferred drinks when we went back inside after saying "I do," to managing the team beautifully day-of. Service day-of was perfect. Top notch. Everyone had drinks when they needed them, the appetizers came out just as planned, in waves, dinner service ran smoothly, vegetarians received their veggie meals and meat folks received their meat meals. The food wasn't piping hot, but it was hotter than I'm used to at catered events. Guests had only positive feedback regarding the taste of everything. I would use Funky's again, but I would not recommend trying to communicate via email, and I would suggest taking down the name of ONE person you can talk to regarding your file every time you call, as the confusion seemed to come from different people putting their paws on our file. read more

Funky's was on the short list of caters allowed by our selected venue. They were great to work with but when the food arrived it was terrible. Chicken was dry, egg rolls soggy and tasteless, I could go on. How do you make a bad stuffed mushroom? I don't know either better ask Funky's. I ended up paying around $1500 for appetizers worth closer to $500. We were assured all along the process their wouild be plenty of food. What we got was little food and bad quality.
