I never write reviews, but my business transaction at City Arms makes me want to warn others so they don't get robbed like I have.
After constant talking about an AK. My girl wanted to get me something nice for my birthday, and said I could get one as long as it was no more than $800. I often fish at Pacifica, and according to yelp City Arms was close so I stopped there on my day off after fishing.
I was helped by NICK (a short stocky white guy with short hair) who showed me two AKs. One on consignment and other was the M+M. I went with the M+M since it was new. He went to the back to grab it, and opened the box. Initially I thought he was checking to make sure everything was there. Then he looked out the door like something happened, and being curious I looked too. When I turned around he was putting the magazine in the AK. It wasn't fishy at the time. So he told me to do my paperwork after paying. He dropped off the taped box to the lady there when I was on the computer inputting my info. Come the day for me to pick up my long gun, I was happy like a kid at the candy store. We went through the paperwork, and they gave me the box.
I raced home to check out my Birthday present, imagining what else I could add to it. That's when I started noticing small somewhat deep scratches in certain areas. So I continue to inspect it some more. The button on the adjustable RPK sight that it came with was stock on the right side so I couldn't move it at all. Then I thought, if there were problems outside, let me check inside. This is where my heart sunk. When looking through the underside at the magazine port or whatever it's called (sorry I'm a newbie and he probably smelled it) it was caked up with blackish red crud with a generous amount around the firing pin. That's when I realized that NICK pulled the Bait and Switch on me like SABER S.'s Review on (8/9/13).. I should have read all the reviews and listen to him... I guess they don't care about burning bridges due to to all the gun scare thanks to our local government. I went back to exchange it the next day, and spoke to a middle-age guy with a beer belly. He said they won't do nothing about it since there is no proof that they sold it to me in that condition. Basically saying I messed it up. I wish I could give them no star, and something else. So here is some tips if you wish to support these crooks (I'm being a saint by calling them that).
1. Inspected your purchase even if the box is taped shut.
2. Do your research and ask a lot of questions. I guess they can spot a newbie easily since they are in the business after all.
3. Keep your eyes on the prize or else they'll pull the switch. I believe they gave me the one on display, if not worst, a used one.
4. Back to #1, because once you leave that store, it opens you up for the same excuse they gave me. You're the customer, you have the to right to be an ass if you have too. It's not like you're spending 20 or 30 dollars, we're talking hundreds.
*** GO TO HIGH BRIDGE ARMS. NO SHARKS THERE.***
I got my FAL there with my next paycheck, and they charged me less. $1600 City Arms could have got if they didn't use their flea market tactics. Live and Learn, but hopefully not like me. read more
