Nestled on the mezzanine level of the FitzWilliam Hotel you'll find a pleasant little diner known as Citron. As part of my corporate rate, because I stayed at the FitzWilliam for work, this Full Irish Breakfast was inclusive. It was buffet-style, but you can also order some of their Specialties.
As for the 'top notch' service, it was usually welcoming from beginning to end. Everyone from the host to the servers all greeted me with a smile. They start off by offering you a choice of 'coffee or tea , and 'toast'. The tables were usually clean, with an occasional coffee mark, but I really have no complaints. During the weekdays, the buffet isn't Full Irish, as they only have the hot items during the weekends. But all the cold items are out there, as they have the Specialty items available for you to order. The Full Irish buffet includes:
-Scrambled eggs
-Smoked salmon
-Assorted cheeses and salamis.
-Clonakilty Black and White Pudding - a mixture of meat parts and spice.
-Bacon, only not like American bacon - almost like big ham slices. Quite a bit salty.
-Breakfast Sausage, - puree graded, almost mushy but good. Salty as well.
-Plenty of fruits - pineapples apples, oranges, grapes, honeydew and cantelope. No blue or blackberries or raspberries.
-Fresh yogurt to make parfits.
-Nuts and prunes.
-Cereal and oatmeal.
-Pastries like croissants.
Regarding dinner, I've ordered the:
-Summer Truffle Risotto €10.50 - A blend soft risotto with the cheese. Not too salty, but the aged parmesan sure brings out the flavor and good aroma.
-Sea Bass €24.00 with a chorizo, borlotti beans, and zucchini side in a small pot - This was actually made quite well. The skin was krispy and the bass was lightly cooked. As for the side pot, this too was a tasty little combo, although I didn't really care for the beans.
-Complimentary item - the potato puff and thinly sliced bruchetta with an apple slice parsley, parmesan sprinkles, and a grape. ??? hmm, yeah, I wasn't sure what to think about while eating this.
Overall, this place is decent. It's really just more convenient for the people that stay at the hotel. It is, however, a great place to start your day! I wouldn't really recommend dinner though. Just a bit overly pricey for the amount of food you get. read more
