I visited Citizen today for the 11:15-12:15 Slow Burn with Cindy. Although I regularly practice at Citizen's Detroit and Royal Oak locations, I wasn't completely sure what to expect from Citizen Yoga Bloomfield, since each location has its own vibe - Detroit's is urban and minimal, Royal Oak's is earthy and comfortable. Bloomfield is somewhere in between but manages to keep its own unique feel - modern, efficient, but still a place to call home. (A note about location/access - CY is behind the Starbucks at Maple and Telegraph, and the front desk/main entrance are around the corner from where I expected. Fortunately, CY anticipated this and had put up a helpful sign!) Many of the teachers are shared between locations.
Cindy's class was everything that I've come to love about Citizen - alignment-based, focused on working from where I'm at now without falling into self-criticism or self-doubt, and allowing for incremental progress. Cindy provided useful feedback to make sure we protected our joints and encouraged us to try new things in a safe environment.
Another great note: more bathrooms, more changing rooms, more showers! If you need to use CY as a launching pad to your day or in between work and an evening out, Citizen Yoga Bloomfield has you covered.
Bloomfield, much like Royal Oak, offers free childcare for certain classes. Just like Royal Oak, childcare attendants aren't background checked. I've heard that the Kids Room at Bloomfield is a more intentional space than the Royal Oak Kids Room, but I don't have as much experience with the Bloomfield one. read more
