It really sucks that I have to write a review, but it is what it is. My first experience with Fatima was fine, but this time was not. Fatima has a website that doesn't provide anyone name when booking a service. I read most of everything that was on the site, but after booking the appointment literally the night before at 11am, I made a point to message the number the next morning to confirm the appointment. I did not get a reply back. I believe I called two or three times and called other numbers that I found on her Instagram and Google. No one answered the phone. After I booked the appointment I noticed that it said any available staff, which was odd because the last time I booked the appointment it actually said Fatima and I believe it was a different site when I first booked. Anyway, I go to the salon and they say Fatima isn't there but someone else is going to do your hair. I'm like, okay, well, since you're doing my hair, this is how I want it. The girl isn't understanding, so she calls Fatima and puts her on the phone; so her and I are speaking. We are going back and forth about how I want my hair to look, and she is telling me the price. First, the special that I booked was $120, 6 stitch into a bun. I believe she was saying that because I wanted it straight down, she was adding $20 extra, which did not make sense. Then I was saying no, I don't want it going all the way down to my nape, I want 6 to 8 boxbraids in the back with the 6 stitch on top going down. She then proceeded to say it was $160. I'm like, okay. She thought I wanted something like fulani, but that wasn't what I was saying. The staff that was there ready to braid my hair didn't want to do my hair anymore because I originally wanted Fatima to do my hair and because of the back and fourth she didn't want to do it and I didn't like it. I said I understood that, but now i have to change my plans and figure it out. While still on the phone with Fatima, I asked when will she be available. She says you have to check the site. I'm like. wow, okay. She sent me the deposit back, and I left. I check the site once again, and it doesn't provide her name or anyone else's name; it says (Staff, worker or something, no one name. I SAY ALL this to say. The site needs to be changed. The phone numbers they need to be updated, and the customer service needs to be better. It was a waste of my time, and Fatima was no help, and she seemed to be the owner of the business. Ridiculous. read more

I want to thank Fatima so much again for doing a beautiful job on my hair for my birthday! It came out beautiful and I get a ton of complements everyday! You squeezed me in for a last minute appointment and you were so pleasant. I know i'm tender headed but you werent rough with my head at allthank you! And i must mention that the other ladies getting their hair done that day had beautiful completed styles also by the other stylists as well. Everyone was leaving pleased read more

Came as a walk-in. They blow dry your hair on extreme heat - my head was smoking and when braiding I asked if she could be looser on my edges and she had an attitude and kept speaking to me disrespectfully. She didn't listen to me and did them tightly and gave me a bald spot. Not worth it to be honest. read more

I went here a day before Christmas Eve because of the reviews ... The box braid extensions that I got done were neat but I can't help but feel tricked. I understand I have a lot of hair, but that doesn't give valid excuse to cheat me. 1) the "Xpression" hair they sell there was $5 a pack and very hard to manage, the women had to comb it out... With most of it falling on the floor. Not the usual legitimate Xpression hair I'm used to. I had to buy 6 packs for my style and usually when you don't finish the last pack they give you the hair that you paid for. Not in this case, more than half of my 6th pack was hidden somewhere 2) I had tipped the woman generously and while she was dipping my braids' ends I told her I was thankful that she didn't try and cheat me and cornrow the back - I often fall victim to that because the braiders get lazy at other salons. INSTEAD OF SAYING PR ADMITTING THAT SHE DID, SHE CONTINUED ON AND NOW I CANT PUT MY HAIR UP AT ALL BECAUSE OF THE CORNROWS Like I said the braiding was neat and I should have known that she cheated because it would have taken longer than 6hrs. $185 for a style I can't wear past a month because of the cornrowing - miss me on that.... By the way, don't try and blow dry natural hair like it's straight hair. With the comb attachment pulling out people's hair like that smh... read more

Cisse beauties - The braids that I got done. A day after. Middle part, was cheated as they cornrowed the back and used larger spaces. - Hair Salons Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

This place used to be my preferred African hair-braiding salon, but I have increasingly found the women very rude and unwelcoming. Once while there, I witnessed two braiders have a physical fight over a tip while other customers and I were still in the middle of getting our hair done. Most recently, I went to get my hair done and not one of the stylists addressed me when I entered the salon. Then, once they did, there was no sense of urgency or consideration for my time. All of the braiders were occupied and no one could give me an estimate on how long I'd have to wait or suggest that I come back on another day or time. The only redeeming characteristic is that there is one woman, who's name I am forgetting, but I believe she identifies as hearing- impaired, who is always attentive and pleasant. She listens to her clients and adjusts her braiding style to meet the needs of her customers. She is a gem and although I won't ever return to the salon, I wish her the best. read more

I'll start by saying I asked for my deposit back & walked out so I truly don't have a star to give. My experience was so frustrating that I needed to walk out before I was tempted to get out of character and say unpleasant things to the stylist. I was referred by my aunt who's hair was very neat and gorgeous. I made a $40 deposit 2 days prior as required for appointments. I was truly excited for the appointment after seeing the Instagram page and I've been wanting braids for a long time. My appointment was scheduled for 9 AM. I was running behind so I texted Fatima, the head stylist & face of the shop as pictured on all social medical accounts. I arrived at 9:08 and noticed the shop was closed. I immediately texted Fatima to let her know I was there & waiting still there was no response. I called at 9:25, i introduced myself and let her know I was waiting. Fatima response was very nonchalant & simply replied "I'm coming". I proceeded to ask how long until she arrives & she hung up the phone. Fatima arrived 10 minutes later, I was parked out front so I was able to see her I gave her about 5 minutes to settle in and I walked inside at 9:45 AM. Fatima did not apologize nor did she greet me when I entered, she simply asked my name & said "oh I was bout to call you". She motioned for me to sit in her chair & I did. I have natural hair, prior to this visit I rarely use heat. She said for the style I wanted I needed to blow my hair out straight. Fatima started to blow dry my hair very roughly, literally raking & pulling. I let her know she was being rough and she stopped with an attitude. I next offered to blow dry it myself & she responded "that's going to take to long I have other people." At this point I no longer had the patience to deal with her unprofessionalism, disrespect and I demanded my deposit be refunded. She gave me my money & as I was walking out another customer was entering. If you value your time and want to be treated with common courtesy and respect then I suggest you go elsewhere. read more

***THIS VISIT IS FROM MAY 2013. THIS REVIEW JUST NEVER POSTED AND STAYED IN DRAFT UNTIL NOW.*** Went there for Senegalese twists. They came out nice...I get a lot of compliments. The price was $140 plus you have to buy your own hair. Although my hair looks nice.. I can't really wear it down completely because the top of my hair is spacey and in my eyes it doesn't look right. So make sure to tell your stylist to make it full if that's the look you're going for read more

I've been going here for years. Even after I left Brooklyn, when back in Brooklyn, I always make it a mission to get my hair braided. My favorite stylist is a deaf sister. Unfortunately, I misplace her name, which isn't OK. However, she's probably the best hair braider in the world! Her precision, pace and posture is always worth noting! read more

One of the better African hair braiding salons in the New York City area first and foremost for cleanliness (the cleanest one I've been in this far...that's over fifteen years) and second because the braiders are relatively good and provide good customer service. About a week ago, I got shoulder length Havana twist, size medium as done by the woman at the second station on the left after walking in. I have received so many compliments that I'm thinking of going there the next time I get my hair done. That's saying a lot since I find it hard to commit to one hairstyle/stylist. The best part about this visit was that it literally took two hours from the time I walked in to the time I left. Mind you I came in on a Saturday at about 6PM. The only thing I didn't like was that the stylist said she couldn't start the braids using the invisible method. Shrugs* Okay. Thanks Cisse Hair Braiding. read more

Never even made an appointment . Took 4 days just to get a price . Still don't understand pricing. I wanted MEDIUM knotless braids & the woman on the phone told me 180 . So I asked how much extra for waist/butt length & she told me to send a photo which I did and never got a response. When I finally got a response two days later the price was $325. I don't argue with people about their prices so I let it go but $180 to $325 just for a little extra length is crazy. Another woman reached out to me again asking for another picture. Which at this time I was over it but I sent a photo and she again said $180 then went back up to $325. (By this time we'd been going back & forth for now the 4th day) . & she asked for way too many pictures. & what length does $180 get you ? A bob? Confusing & they don't seem inviting. read more

Fatima is on point fast and I will return again I love her work they are pricier but I see why it a yesss for me her work is worth it!!!!

It's a pity that I didn't have Yelp in 2005, but not really because my disgust for this place still lingers on my tongue. I frequented this braiding salon for 3 years!!! Like clock work every 3 months I would shell out $100-150 to Cissie's bank account for services. Well, one day, she had some young girl do my hair and you know how some of these salons would have just anyone doing your hair? This was that. I go on vacation on a group trip and my box braids are coming out left all over Cancun! I was mortified and ANGRY! Howww??? After 8 hours and all of that money why are my braids slipping out??! I went back to Cissie calmly to tell her what happened thinking she knows I am a loyal customer so this should be resolved, nicely. You know that *woman* had the nerve to want to charge me for fixing it and blamed me???! She said, "It's because your hair is natural." Bish, my hair always been natural! Then she says, "It's because you went into the water!" I always go into the water with my braids! They never slipped out before. No bish, it's because your ass had some unprofessional teenager do my hair and now I have to do it over in a matter of 7 days. I told her off and I am still HOT when I think of her nasty ass attitude!! I took my business elsewhere to a shop on the block that works much faster, much cheaper, is way friendlier and WAYYYY better. The place is located across the street, next to the B60 stop, closer to the train station (Right next to the Check cashing place) and you have to go up the stairs. There is also a place on Flatlands and Rockaway Pkwy, a door down from the corner store. They do my basic cornrows and I crochet my hair myself. read more

UNPROFESSIONAL! Look up unprofessional in the dictionary and you'll see this place right next to it. Workers show favoritism to friends and customers they know. Some people are able to make appointments some are not. Workers constantly talk on the phone and to customers slowing down the process. Save your time and money and go some place else. Gave two stars and not one because I know there are worse places. read more

This review is based on 3 different visits spread across the last 2 years, with 2 stylists.. Two weeks ago was my last visit- My braids fell apart a week later- never going back again. Here are my general take aways: - it's never a chill or relaxing experience, I get bad hair energy there. - generally much more expensive for similar services offered in the area. - tight braids= hair loss. Not cute. Even when you keep asking for no tight braids. - I always bring photos but never walk out with the style I want : ( my bad for going back, I thought all the good reviews meant I was not communicating well. Hope this helps someone save time/money hopefully both. read more

The 5 stars is for how my hair looked when I walked out of here! Awesome! I believe it was Cisse who did my hair. I brought in a photo and she was so on point with giving me the style in the photo. So refreshing that she paid attention! If you have ever tried taking a pic into a salon before you that you don't always walk out with the hair in the picture. I think my hair came out even better! Another woman finished my hair which is pretty normal in an African braiding salon. But the intricate part was already done before the switch and the second woman (her mom) finished it up perfectly. Great service and prices! So glad I walked in!! read more

I went to this braiding place on the advise of a friend her hair looked great. I went and was happy with the service the ladies were very friendly and welcoming. Fatima did my hair i had long box braids they were very neat tight lol but neat and she listened when i asked her to take out my edges she was very apologetic as well when she saw me wincing lol because of the tightness. But all in all i was very happy with the end result and i had a lot of compliments. The best part about it is that she was very fast. I would definitely go back for braids when needed. read more

I came here on a friend's referral, with warning. She said even though they are good and fast beware of the manager/owner because she will try and charge you too much. So, with hesitation I still gave them a try. First visit, even though I was treated with the worst customer service, my hair came out pretty good. Second visit, I was too through! I specifically talked to the manager/owner over the phone and she gave me one price for the style I wanted, then before the conversation was over she dropped it $20. Get to the salon, the owner herself starts doing my hair, even AFTER I showed her the pic once again of the style I wanted. Two hours later I noticed she's not giving me the style I asked for. I wanted twists and she puts box braids!!! When brought to her attention all she could say is "I'm sorry, I forgot." So then she asks, "what are we going to do?" and I'm like so we taking these out and getting my twists right? She proceeds to tell me to come back tomorrow because it's too late. So at this point I'm fuming and have to get a plane in the next day so have no other choice but to continue with the box braids smh... Then, not only did she tell me it was the same price as the style I originally wanted, she ups the price from what she told me yesterday and tries to throw in $10 off! After finally arguing with her that not only did she not do my hair to my liking, the style I was given was way less than the style she quoted me for and tried to rip me off. Guess my friend was right. Needless to say, I will not be returning here. I don't care how good and fast they may be, the owner needs to stop trying to rip off her customers and pay more attention to what the customer is asking for. read more

I'm just convinced that there are no good African hair braiding shops in the NYC area. This is my SECOND bad hair shop experience in the last 11 months since I've moved here. I switched from Animata's in Harlem to Cisse's in Brooklyn. I've only had my braids in for 1 week any they're already unraveling, the roots are frizzy and my twists aren't the size I requested. I'll just go back to DC for now on. read more

I went in on a Sunday and there was only one customer getting her hair done. When I showed the owner (who acted annoyed, tired, something was wrong with her) what I wanted she told me "we don't do that style here", which surprised me because I've seen her do similar styles. When I came up with another style - basic braids, ponytail style - she wanted to charge me $150!! I thought that was awfully high so I left. The shop across the street did the style for me for $100. Big difference in price and I was extremely satisfied with what I got. read more

I can Say the salon is good No Complaints really. There is alot of staff so even when it is a full house there is someone able to do your hair (But still come early) only thing i could say is my stylist was a bit slow for me to be getting cornrow braids. It was a lady there before me with box braids and she finished at the same time but i guess it was not my stylist day that day. But i can say i would recommend this salon. read more

I have been here twice with my girls and have not been disappointed. Walked in both times-- without making an appointment-- and did not wait long for my girls to be seen. I came in as a walk in and was very pleased with my experience. Not only are the braiders very gentle, they braid quickly. I was disappointed after not getting a chair at my usual salon, but this place was a happy ending to a bad beginning. Once they turned on the African Movies, the vibe in the salon became more lively and comfortable so i was relaxed. I have been coming to this place for years. The staff has always been polite and accommodating. Unfortunately as with many hair braiding salons, the staff do not know how to work with or manipulate natural hair of any texture. Today I went in for two strand or "Marley" twists. I explained my desired style. Once the braiding began I noticed the ends looked very frazzled and unkempt. I explained that I would like the ends to be neatly done as I have used this hair before without any issues. Of course once the style was completed my ends were a DISASTER! Uneven, some of them were not even completed all the way. My hair was twisted but yet the braided at the ends. They looked ridiculous. As we speak I am currently re-twisting the ends of my hair. In short, I will resume braiding my hair myself. I paid $140 for an unfinished and haphazard This salon is good for standard styling, but they come up short for anything else. read more

This place was highly recommended by a friend of mine but I did not have a pleasurable experience here . For starters they opened about 20 min late . I made an appt with Fatima and waited there for an additional 40 mins , only for her to call the shop and tell me she can't do my hair because she is doing her daughters hair . She did not apologizing for wasting my time . She simply told me to come back another day . Also there was another woman waiting with me . When she walked in she told them she wanted to get micro braids with weave in the back . They said ok . She sat there for about 20 min and then asked when they would start her hair . This is when they told her they won't do the micro braids so she has to find somewhere else . read more

After hearing about them on Instagram I came here to get some long knotless braids. Entering the salon I was greeted with a hi and an attitude smh I don't know why I just wanted my hair done. I told her the style I wanted and how long I wanted it and she told me it would be $280 and I need to buy the hair wow I said ok and I went to buy the hair the pregnant lady who did my hair was not ready until about 2 hours later. Half way Thru my hair I noticed that she was doing my hair in the wrong hair style so she had to stop and fix it which made the process even longer mine You she was very slow and no one helped her at all. My hair was not How I wanted it to be plus it was not as long as I wanted it to be and I would never go here again. Not worth the money at all !!! I have been looking for a braider that I would religiously go to now that I am transitioning to natural hair. I've been here 3 times and never disappointed. I always receive compliments on how neat and amazing my hair looks. ALWAYS. I usually go to the head braider, (not sure what her name is as of yet) & she is lovely. Since moving to Brooklyn about two years ago, it was important for me to find an African hair braiding shop that actually braids natural hair well. Since moving here, I have been to about 4 different braiding shops and they all have been horrible experiences from braiding way too tight, leaving my natural hair sticking out of the braids or not listening to my styling request on length and size. I was very grateful to find Cisse Hair Braiding which was walking distance from my apartment. As soon as I walked in, it was very busy and everybody being styled looked beautiful! I noticed that the shop was clean, and the techniques of taking care of natural hair was there.I was a bit nervous that they wouldn't be able to fit me in since I came in at 3 PM for waist length braids. I was accommodated immediately, only one person worked on my hair and I was out in seven hours for small waist length box braids. My hair looks absolutely beautiful I can't stop staring in the mirror. The braiding was not tight at all, just secure. It was expensive but I look expensive! I took away one star because the owner initially priced me at $200 but then when I stood up to pay she said it's actually $250 but she will only charge me $230. I would have paid the $250 because it's that beautiful but I don't like surprises in that form. All of the other shops charge the same price but with half the quality. I will be going here for as long as they remain open. read more
