My husband and daughter loved their cheeseburgers. Not much for vegetarians, however. All the fried food is cooked in beef tallow. For vegetarians they have a house salad and a larger salad. I was able to eat the grilled cheese sandwich that was grilled with butter since I eat dairy. We shared a chocolate shake that was quite good. Service was excellent and the staff was helpful. We walked into this restaurant and before ordering, we asked if it was peanut friendly. The cashier didn't know, but I asked her to please ask someone who does know because my grandson has severe peanut allergies. The cook said they used beef tallow oil, not peanut oil. I again, said you're a nut friendly restaurant? The cashier said, "yes". We proceeded to order chicken nuggets, for my grandson....feeling assured that it was safe for him to eat...UNTIL we sat at a table, to wait for our order, and saw this sign posted, on the side of a cooler...not even close to the menu board!!! Obviously, their staff didn't know the answer to my question or concerns. THEY ARE NOT A NUT FRIENDLY RESTAURANT!!! Do they have any idea what could've happened to my grandson, had he eaten the chicken nuggets!? We carry an EpiPen, with us, 24/7!! Sure, the grease was beef tallow, but obviously they have products, with peanuts, or the products are made in a factory, that are peanut cross-contaminated. Also, we spent $70, on our order, and had to throw the entire order away and stop at a gas station to scrub our hands. My grandson cannot even be touched, with any food that may contain peanuts or products made in a peanut factory!!! So, I can't tell you how the food tasted, but I can tell you how the service is...HORRIBLE!!!! Plenty of people have allergies, and this restaurant needs to be more proactive on informing their staff. $70...down the drain!! read more

The burger was outstanding. Here's why I know... At the end of each day I always ask my kids what their favorite thing of the day was. We are on a road trip across the northern plains. Today we went to the Badlands and climbed them. It was amazing!! But my 14 yr old son's favorite thing was the burger he had at Murdo Drive-in. Seriously! He said that ranks at the top of our whole trip for him. And we've done some pretty great stuff that he has REALLY raved about. But not as much as this burger! The staff was friendly and welcoming. The place is clean and the food and treats were tasty. Highly recommend. One thing to note. GPS made us think we were at the place but we couldn't see it. You have to look behind a building. Just found this place on Yelp during our drive through SD to NE. Given the excellent ratings, we had to give it a try! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the friendly staff. They recommended a few items to us but said given how fresh the beef was, we should go for the bacon cheeseburger. That is exactly what I did and could not have been happier with my choice! The beef tasted so fresh and juicy, the bun was toasted and crispy, and the veggies (lettuce, tomato, pickles) added a bit of freshness to it. If I had more room in my belly I would have totally tried one of the shakes! They looked and sounded amazing. Food is affordable. 100% recommend checking this place out if you're in the area/near the Badlands. SOO good! read more

My husband and I were passing through and stopped in because there weren't many options aside from subway. We're both so glad we did! The inside was very clean and well kept. We also loved the decor and how cozy it felt. We were immediately greeted by Heather, the owner, and she was so sweet! She was super friendly and talked to us like we were old friends. It definitely gave the feeling you only get in small town restaurants which we love. And watching her interact with the locals only solidified that feeling. Now for the important part, the food. I got the Big Al burger and it was delicious! The perfect blend of savory and spicy. My husband got a plain bacon cheeseburger and it was simple but great. We shared the cheese curds and I had to take the leftovers to go because no way were we not eating every one. We also got some of the homemade ranch and it was some of the best we've had in a long time. If we're ever back in town it's a must stop. Murdo is my favorite central South Dakota town, I have been here many a once....well only once. Every dad gum piece of the corn-fed beef burger I ate was better than the last. You could tell the corn was delivered special to these cows. So I told the groovy grandpa sorry for ruining the mood and calmed myself into a slow, and quiet burger eating pattern. Once I finished the delightful burger, I turned my sights to my side dish, beautiful....tempting...awe inspiring....Corn Nuggets. These Corn Nuggets are made from the Corn Palace's finest corn. I promise you that the Corn Queen herself, yeah, I know her #HumbleBrag, bequeathed this corn upon the Murdo Drive-In. The fine people of Murdo have not let the queen down even one bit. Each of these Corn Nuggets leave you wanting more. I kept trying to be quiet (for Lloyd and Mildred's romantic mid afternoon date) but I kept finding myself finishing a bag of nuggets and yelling out for more. Turns out I nearly ran the town outta corn...I doubt I will be allowed back in Murdo, but if you have normal human being restraint, or just want to go on a date, get yourself to Murdo Drive-In and thank me (and the Corn Queen) later. The fries were bland, mac and cheese bites were balls of old nacho cheese, very thick and not in a good way. Very pleasant meal tonight. We simply ordered grilled cheese sandwiches, onion rings, and chocolate shakes. Hit the spot after driving from Wisconsin. We ate in, the room was spotless, if the weather was a bit better there were outside tables. Our order was taken by a young man, just turning 15 years old tomorrow and he got it precisely as we asked...including a change or three to customize them to our liking. The owners were multitasking to help train him, get the food orders out quickly and even refill the paper towels in the restroom as soon as it ran out. Locals were coming in last minute eat in or for take out...or both. And though they were closing in a couple of minutes they gladly took the orders and got the food ready ASAP. The menu has a nice variety with reasonable prices. We went simple today but could have had burgers, chicken choices, nachos... The cooler also had cans of beer if you didn't want pop or shakes. If you're near Murdo, give them a try...you should not be disappointed... read more

My husband, traveling to Pierre South Dakota for a fishing trip when he stopped for dinner at 9:25 at the Circle E. Even though they close at 9:30, they promptly asked him what he would like. Per my husband, they served him enough food for two people, with left overs for another meal. He had the burrito which was stuffed to the max and of excellent flavor. Hubs and I visited Murdo Drive In based on Connor's review. We were in town an HAD to try it. We were not disappointed in the least, well except we did not find Mildred and Lloyd (yes, we asked) Mary, the owner or manager came out to talk to us. I shared with her how we heard about Murdo Drive In and read her the review that led us there. She loved it! Hubs had the Special... An Italian Burger, a Burger that had to be to die for because I barely got a picture of it before it was gone. We ordered Potato Rounds before remembering to try the corn nuggets... (Hubs went back up to the register to order those goodies) The Potato Rounds are similar to tater tots only flat rounds and much tastier. I had the Locally grown Burger (delicious) and after hubs nabbed a few corn nuggets, he was cut off, they were mine.... Those there were some heavenly nuggets of corn. They were melt in your mouth sweet morsels of delight. I had to have more. Mary, bless her, brought us out another batch, along with a bonus, "her macaroni and cheese bites", which were very yummy but not near as decadent as her corn nuggets - hubs only got 2 from the second batch, they were mine. With the friendly staff, and the locals (one of whom we thought might be Lloyd because he asked us if we found the drive in from the internet - he wasn't Lloyd, we asked) to the lady of the couple sitting at the table next to us who agreed with me that Hubs could not have my corn nuggets, Murdo Drive In is a diamond in the rough that you won't want to miss! read more

We have stopped at Circle E over the years when passing through South Dakota. We never tried their burger; then about a month ago I read that they were voted best burger in SD. Tried one today, boy have we been missing out! Juicy burger, very fresh meat & toppings! Owner said they source meat locally, you can tell! All of their food is great and we will keep working our way through the menu, but the burger will be hard to pass up. This place is very clean, staff was cleaning when not cooking! Friendly staff!
