I told him my hair was super dried out and way too long (all the way down to my bottom). I also told him I wanted some layers and something to make it more full. He told me he would give me plenty of fullness and would cut off 3 inches. It turned out better than I had imagine. I actually had never seen my hair this perfect. Have been going to Kayo for hair cuts for years now and I swear by her because she not only is familiar & experienced with all types of Asian hair, but she takes her time in getting it how you'd like. I usually show her pictures of cuts I want, and every time, she replicates it on me without fail (from A-line bobs to long layered cuts). She also takes your face shape into consideration and will make suggestions which is wonderful. Circa 92 is a nice salon, very classy decor. I have been seeing Kayo Iwaki since 2009 and now that she moved from East-West Hair to Circa 92, I followed her! Kayo is actually the first stylist I've ever stuck with. Before I used to just bop around and even use the cheap chain stores. No matter what I paid, my haircuts ranged from meh to sucky. Kayo is really skilled, has very reasonable prices and has an adorable personality to boot! She takes my face shape (oval) and hair structure (semi-fine) into consideration and I've never been disappointed. I have her direct # now (714-887-9797) so it will be easier to make appointments with her. Circa 92 has apparently been under Japanese ownership for a couple years. It's a step up from East-West Hair's digs and the location is just as convenient. Kayo speaks English well enough that we've never had a communication problem. TIP: Google maps is wrong so do this: From Macarthur Blvd. go north on Macarthur Pl. (toward the T-Mobile office tower). Take first left on First American Way. You won't see any street sign for Macarthur Crescent but you'll be on a crescent-shaped street. You'll see Quiznos on your right and it's one of the shops right after that. I came here about 3-4 times for a haircut and also a partial highlights treatment. The stylists do a fantastic job, but they just take FOREVER. The place is empty and I'm sitting there for 2 hours while the hairdresser is chatting away. I got places to be on the weekend! I don't really think a haircut should take 2 hours, do you? That's really what stopped me from coming back. Also I never know if my hairstylist is going to be there, this place seems to be a revolving door for hairdressers. The best salon I have ever been to. I love the atmosphere of this place down to the art on the walls. The staff are incredibly sweet and you can even sip on glasses of wine, water, pastries, etc. while getting your hair done. The hair dye and highlights I got were the best I have ever had and it makes you not dread sitting there for 2 hours getting dyed and cut. Chris Cobb is an amazing stylist and I HIGHLY recommend him. Color and highlights are around $125 and cuts $65 so definitely be prepared for the bill. That being said, the dye seems to last longer than other places and the hair cut is so fantastic that it's worth the cash cuz it's sooooo easy to maintain. Let me break it down for you: The good: *I went in on Saturday morning and I was immediately assisted. *Leon (who I highly recommend) gave me the most comprehensive consultation I've ever had (The price was right ($23.00 Groupon deal) *Even after I went home and did my own hair it looked just as good as when he did it (the sign of a good cut I say) *There was zero gossip being tossed around while I was there *When I left I was given a warm and friendly goodbye The not so good: *The receptionist when I arrived was (I overheard) the owners daughter and she was less than enthusiastic...even a tad rude *They sell the art displayed on their walls and I would normally think that was really cool. However, the art was...well...not stellar. So guys don't really write reviews on salons often, if ever, which should tell you how great the experience was at Circa 92! The location is tucked away behind the DoubleTree Hotel, but this salon is DEFINITELY a find. I went in after work, and was seated promptly. The layout is pretty nice, nothing out of the ordinary. Richard cut my hair and he works like he has been doing this for a very long time. He was very personable and the normal salon awkwardness where you search for things to say and avoid eye contact like vampires with sunlight was nonexistent. Richard gave me a great cut! He accommodated all of my weird preferences with my hair. Best of all, He is SUPER fast without compromising the quality of his work or the professional service he gave me. Overall, I recommend this place. It is not in the most visible location, which makes it GREAT for walk-ins. They generally always have an open seat. However, if you want an amazing cut that doesn't take hours in a salon seat and remanufactured "the weather is nice" conversations, ask for Richard! read more

Been crying everyday since my haircut.. I rarely cut my hair cuz it's a slow growing process after years of trying to grow it out I went in for help. My hair was past shoulder length and now is too short to even get extensions :( AVOID haircuts, very nice lady lelahni but horrible haircuts for $50 (posted a pic collage ) I told her a few times its too short n she kept cutting (I trusted her) and in the End I said wow its short.. Although the salon's decor is artsy + stylish, my hair did not turn out the same. I paid $90 for highlights I could not even see. I returned a few days later to tell my hairstylist I wanted more highlights since the RED highlights were barely noticeable, and instead of being more accommodating, given what I paid for the highlights, my hairstylist gave me attitude and I ended up having to pay another $15 to get more color in. I cannot say enough good things about Circa 92 Salon. This is the first legit salon I've been to and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. I came here because of the Groupon Now deal and would totally come back for the full price. Kathleen was my stylist and she did amaaazing! I wanted to get a cropped pixie cut (never gone short since I was a kid) and was pretty nervous about it. I brought in some pictures and she worked with me to figure out what I wanted. Let me first start by saying I just signed up to Yelp! I almost never complain, Iam easy going and if the service I got is less than expected then I decide to never come back... But what happened to me yesterday was borderline ridiculous! 1. I purchase one of the groupon now deals: $23 for haircut, shampoo, scalp massage and STYLE. The girl in the front was super nice, but Leon, the stylist, just awful! I am a natural brunette that went blonde some time ago and love it. He started dissing my hair as soon as I sat on the chair. 2. I even asked if he recommended a deep conditioning treatment ( I would have paid extra for that) he told me that it wouldn't help me at all, just by then I was starting to feel very uncomfortable... 3. So he just shampoo my hair and brought me back to the chair to start the cut. As soon as I was sat he started talking to other guy that was there explaining him, "oh with her hair type, we should do this and that" all the time talking, being very annoying with his explanations...even at one time, I thought he talked to me and he said: " oh, no..I am talking to him" he never asked how I was, or anything to make me feel welcomed. 4. I have natural wavy/ frizzy hair so I explained to him that when I got my Brazilian blow outs, I loved the way my hair looked for months... And he was: "oh, no, you shouldn't even blow dry your hair or flat iron it" by then I was starting to get pissed off, who do you think you are to tell me how I should wear or do in my hair?!?! 5. So as you can imagine, from my previous comment, he refused to blow dried my hair and I walked from his salon with WET HAIR. I was furious! Where is my style?!?! I have gotten same cuts at great clips!! Make yourself a favor and do not ignore the bad comments! I needed to write this because more people need not to be fooled by 5 star reviews. read more

I made an appointment through same day groupon which was a great deal for 10 AM. I needed to reschedule to a later time so I called the receptionist with plenty of time to spare and moved to 2PM but when I called to say I was 10 min away, I was told that I had missed my earlier appointment. I was told the earlier receptionist did not make the change in the computer. They ended being able to squeeze me in and since I was 10 minutes late to the later appointment I was ok. I then asked if I could add color, I would understand if they couldn't but they could! Only I was squeezed in with and ended up spending almost 4 hours there! I did love that Macy listened to what I wanted and it looked good. I had no clue what I wanted other than bangs and some color but what exactly I drew a blank. Mato was great a consulting since I was looking for hair products to use with which helped pass some of the time away while Macy saw two other clients. As I mentioned, I did end up leaving very satisfied but when I got home I saw some thing that concerned me. The bangs were not even along my hairline if that makes sense. Some of the partial highlights were concentrated on my right side more than my left side. I think I might watch too much of Salon Takeover with Tabitha Coffey but I noticed it up close. I was told the owner would charge for a bang cut which is annoying but since haven't been able to get there I might as well wait until my next appointment which is in two weeks. Overall a positive experience and looking forward to the 40% off next visit. Also, when I looked over the regular prices they are extremely reasonable for the area. I went to this salon for the first time yesterday after purchasing a deal on Groupon. The deal was $23 for a shampoo, haircut, and style. COMPLETELY worth it! The entire experience was great. When I called them in the morning to make an appointment, the staff was very courteous and even though it was pretty last minute, I got the appointment time that I wanted. The salon is a bit hidden in an apartment complex but once you get to the right building it's easy to find and there's plenty of parking. The setup was great and so was the environment! Everyone was very calm. First I was directed to the styling chair where the hairdresser, Noriko, asked me what I wanted to do with my hair. I wasn't 100% sure so we spent some time discussing options and I figured out what I wanted. I have to say, this is the first time ever that a hairdresser has cut my hair to the EXACT length I asked for, not even a bit shorter than I would like! She washed my hair and gave a great head massage and even a shoulder massage after the shampoo was done! She did the haircut in two parts, the ends while it was still wet and some final styling after blow drying it. I'm really happy with how it looks! She did a great job, and best of all, she was very careful to do my hair exactly as I had asked for it. She even made it a point to ask me a couple of times during the haircut what I thought of it and if I would like anything different. Almost forgot to mention, they were very sweet and offered tea/water/coffee as well. Overall, a great experience, and I'm definitely going back! They have some great promotions going on, and if you call ahead for your second visit and make an appointment, you get 40% off the haircut! I definitely recommend trying Circa92. I got my hair done because of a groupon deal I got and I told the guy I want to maintain my length and just trim about 2 inches off. My hair was all the way down my back basically right above my hips and I could not see the back, but when he was done and he started drying my hair I realized how short it was, my hair is curly so I thought maybe once it was straight it would be longer, but nope. I didn't want to cause a scene, but I burst into tears as soon as I got into my hair. Yeah I know it's just hair, but it took me 2 years to grow my hair and now its barely under my shoulder and the cut is uneven, so unhappy :( read more

I've tried a lot of different stylists over the years and it's not uncommon for me to go to 12 different stylists over the span of a year (1 a month for my monthly haircut) and then I found Mato. I've now been a happy client of Mato's for 2 years and I have recommended her to everyone I know that is looking for a new stylist. Mato is one of the sweetest, most hard working, and one of the most talented stylists around. Even though i have now moved to San Francisco, I pretty much refuse to get my hair cut until I make my flights back home. It's been 3 months since my last haircut with Mato and I am extraordinarily excited to get this wild mane of my handled. I can't see why I would risk getting a bad haircut when I know Mato is going to give me THE haircut I need. If I did not have groupon, I would not want to use the place since the price is a bit on the higher end for a Santa Ana location. She explained the process thoroughly and competently before beginning and proceeded to make me feel comfortable the entire time.
