    Corkage fee on menu
    Mike P.

We had a reservation for three for dinner. We arrived 10 minutes early and we were explicitly told we were early and then we stood waiting until our reservation time when they seated us. Tables are mainly outside with loud street traffic noise. We were brought water fairly quickly and had our menus to review. We then waited for 13 to 15 minutes until a young waitress returned answered our questions and we ordered some focaccia bread and three glasses of Sangiovese. $19 a glass for a very poor red wine and then seven dollars for six small pieces of focaccia bread. The least expensive wine by the bottle was $79. Their corkage fee if you brought your own bottle was a mind-boggling $179. We got our wine and bread in a reasonable time and then had to wait another 10 minutes to place an order. We were in the mood to have salad, but the least expensive was a Caesar, $25 for a small plate. We ordered two pasta dishes And one ravioli dish, which came with three cheese ravioli. The dishes in price ranged from $48-$56 each. Our food came out, reasonably on time. We requested some Parmesan cheese and olive oil for the side. The pasta was handmade, fresh and delicious. We very much enjoyed the entrées taste and presentation. One of the pasta dishes was just lukewarm when served. Our bill for three adults was $250 before tax and tip. While the food was excellent, we felt that the service and location, along with the ambience was not worth that price.

The finest option for authentic Mediterranean dining with the freshest ingredients purchased locally or flown in from Japan. Incredible hand made pasta; authentic and a treat for the palate. Yes; you will pay for this exquisite experience. A Foodies delight and yes...a memory will be made. Slow food experience with knowledgeable owners who work hard to create a memory for the mind, body and spirit! Molto bene! Enjoy!

On our last night on the island we were looking for dinner for our family of 7. They were so accommodating to get us beautiful food for take out. The lobster di Brontë was amazing, flavorful and not over cooked. The gnocchi was pillow soft with perfectly cooked shrimp. The salad and focaccia were fabulous. Beautiful presentation, and great food! We did take out but the restaurant was cozy and looked so inviting. Would definitely come back next time we are here.

Truly the best food on the island. I had an excellent experience throughout the meal. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area. A bit pricy but if you want top quality ingredients, drinks, desserts and service this place will not disappoint. Top of my list for the next time I visit the island.

Chef Gino! And their wonderful homemade pasta.

My wife and I changed our lunch plans on a whim when we saw Cipriano's Kitchen open during a drive by. We'd heard great things about their homemade pastas, but what we experienced was so much more. Cipriano's is best described as a torrid love affair between Italy and Peru, with unbelievably delicious results. Co-owner Claudia greeted and seated us as if we were old friends, and her husband Gino - who is also the chef - checked in during our meal with genuine warmth and curiosity. The hospitality alone was exceptional. We started with the lobster and fresh catch ceviche (Kona Kanpachi that day), which instantly became a new favorite. Claudia shared that the secret is "zero minutes" - citrus added only at the last moment - allowing the sushi-grade fish to transform right on the plate. It arrived perfectly garnished with microgreens, gourmet chips, avocado, and something akin to a grown-up corn nut. Delectable doesn't begin to cover it. After I joked about licking the plate, we learned that the leftover citrus juice is called Leche de Tigre - meant to be sipped by spoon. Bright, tart, and refreshing, it worked like a palate cleanser for what came next. Claudia then offered us a special off-menu item: ube gnocchi. Marcie ordered it immediately, and I went for the lobster ravioli. The sauces were divine. The ube gnocchi started firm and then melted away like a dream, while the lobster ravioli left me feeling fully satisfied - though of course I cleaned the plate. We finished with a scoop of lilikoi gelato and sat for a moment, stunned that we'd finally found the kind of family-run, soulfully-crafted restaurant we've been searching for on the Big Island. Run, don't walk ... and don't skip the ceviche.

What's not in here is what you should be asking?!? It's everything you want and then some...all the best of the best seafood around!

Everything from the moment we arrived was top-tier!! Just do yourself a favor: get whatever Claudia tells you! She will Not be Wrong! So delicious!!!!

Terrible service. They refused to seat us at the table we requested and showed passive-aggressive behavior behind fake smiles. The seating was by the road with a view of a construction site and the place smell gross.

This place is incredible. Authentic and delicious Italian food. Everything we tried was full of flavor and we couldn't help but ask for more. The service is genuine and Claudia was a great host, who knew everything about the food/menu and was very personable. Finally, the ambience was peaceful, unique, and had a great feel to it. We LOVED this place. What was a spur of the moment, "let's grab a quick bite", turned into an ultimate favorite restaurant, "We NEED to go back and try more!"

I can't say enough good things about Cipriano's! I've been here multiple times now--sometimes just to grab a coffee, other times for breakfast or lunch--and every single visit has been fantastic. The quality of the food is outstanding: everything feels fresh, from the house-made pasta and bread to the produce and seafood. You can really taste the care that goes into every dish. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the service is consistently excellent--friendly, attentive, and professional without ever feeling overbearing. It's the kind of place where you feel like a valued guest every time you walk in. I haven't had the chance to try dinner yet (since I work the nights they're open), but based on my experiences so far, I have no doubt it's just as exceptional. Cipriano's is truly a gem and one of my favorite spots on the island.

    Ly M.

Absolutely loved Cipriano's -- a true hidden gem on the Big Island! The Kanpachi ceviche, ravioli three ways, and Kauai shrimp puttanesca were all delicious and a standout from our trip. Also run by a husband and wife made the experience homey with a great story. Definitely a must-visit when visiting!

It's overrated. I can say that the food is okay, but a $70 per plate meal isn't worth it. I spent 400 dollars on dinner for two people.

    Cioppino with added squid. Amazing

This is THE BEST Italian restaurant I've ever been to. We came a couple years ago when we visited the island. I'm visiting again and had to go see them. I stayed 1 month and I went 4 times. Gino and Claudia are the nicest people and their staff is amazing. The food is prepared fresh. IT is incredible. They definitely know what they're doing. I've enjoyed several of their dishes and they were all perfect. Hard to pick a favorite. Trust in their food. Today, I had Claudia pick for me and was not disappointed. Their cocktails are amazing. Everything is perfect. I'd give a million stars if I could. Thank you Gino and Claudia! I'll see you again when I return.

One problem was there weren't nearly enough servers, and they hardly ever came into our room. So on our earlier visit, we were there for nearly three hours. There were two of us, both adults, with no special requests or concerns, and we shared a caprese salad, I had a glass of wine, and we each had a pasta entree. Neither of us eats really slowly. AND we had reservations. So...three hours? We sat at a bare table for half an hour before we even got silverware and napkins, but worse, although the salad was good, as usual, our entrees were uncharacteristically bad. In each each case, the pasta was ok, cooked to the right doneness, but the sauce on spaghetti bolognese" was a small amount of marinara sauce sprinkled with a few tablespoons of crumbled ground mystery meat that had no discernible seasoning, not even salt and pepper. We had noticed that the description on the menu had changed from meat sauce to marinara sauce and crumbled Italian sausage, but the meat didn't taste anything like Italian sausage. The spaghetti with meatballs was somewhat better, but the meatballs were overcooked and tough on the outside, and underseasoned. We were hoping for a better meal yesterday, and yes, we had reservations, but after being seated once again at a bare table in the auxiliary room, and waiting for 25 minutes, we were thinking we were going to get lousy service and bad food again, so we left. The only reason I'm giving the restaurant three stars is that in the past, on weekdays, when the restaurant was always, until last night, less crowded, with no overflow room required, the service and the food were much better, at least four stars. I hope the chef and other staff read this and it's a wakeup call...if you can't handle crowds, in the kitchen or in the dining rooms, limit your seating so you can do everything well, like you used to, or your regular customers like us are going to go away.

We had recently dined at a prestigious "Tre Gamberi" trattoria in Rome, so our skepticism was high. We expected a heavy, cream-laden resort interpretation. We were wrong. Under the guidance of Chef Soto, the Carbonara here is not just an imitation; it is an act of alchemy. It is a Roman-meets-Norcia masterpiece--a glossy, golden emulsion of egg, cheese, and guanciale/pancetta, elevated by the earthy whisper of truffle. We were seated at a gorgeous table near the cove often frequented by sea turtles (tartarughe), making this a perfect moment of enjoying a tartufata near the tartarughe. It was, without hyperbole, as good as what we had in Italy. The rest of the meal followed suit in a dizzying display of technique. The Japanese scallops were silken and precise, tasting of the clean, cold ocean. And do not let the whimsical name of the "Poi-cotta" deter you. What sounds like a kitschy pun is actually a dessert of haunting texture and depth--far more compelling and sophisticated than its charming title suggests. Chef Soto visited our table after the meal, his passion for these ingredients palpable. Meridia has always had the view; now, finally, it has the soul to match.

We saw from Yelp photos that Canoe House offered a tasting menu at some point in time, but during our visit, it was more of an impromptu tasting menu of sorts -- created by our server, rather than an official one with a set beverage pairing. In any case, we still had a wonderful experience ordering items a la carte. Before diving into the food, I wanted to call out the outstanding service at Canoe House. My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and our server started and ended the meal with a round of congratulations. Throughout our meal, our server was super attentive and there was never a moment when our water cups were empty. Empty plates were promptly cleared, cutlery was refreshed when it was needed, and whenever a dish was brought over, he would carefully slide things around on the table so dishes were accessible and not overcrowding. Friendly, professional service of this level is honestly hard to find these days outside of Michelin dining establishments. My wife and I started our meal off with the large loaf of pull-apart milk bread ($18). The milk bread was incredibly fluffy and the outside was finished with some honey and sea salt. The sweet cream butter was rich and had the perfect spreadable consistency. As tempting as it is to want to finish the loaf, you'll definitely want to safe your stomach for the rest of the meal. The next items that we ordered were two chilled oysters ($7/piece), and a hamachi + uni citrus salad ($14). Since we were dining as a couple, our server informed us that we could actually order half-portions of some of the dishes. This was a perfect way to not fill-up before our mains arrived, so we did that for both the salad and the gyozas. The uni in the salad was melt in your mouth tender and had a delicious sweetness to it. I thought the hamachi in the salad was a bit unremarkable: it was certainly fresh and there were two generously sized pieces in the dish, but the fish definitely needed a bit more salt to it. Our next and last appetizer to arrive was the beef and foie gras gyoza ($7/piece). The chili garlic ponzu sauce the gyoza is resting leans towards the sour side, but that's my personal preference when it comes to dumpling sauces so I really enjoyed it. The filling inside the gyoza was on the leaner side compared to your typical pork and cabbage dumpling, but I didn't mind this too much since there was so much sauce in the bowl to accommodate the dumpling. The next four items we ordered all arrived together: the garlic fried rice ($32), the Kona kanpachi ($67), the Iberico char siu pork ($65), and the side of sugar snap peas ($22). Of these items, my favorite bites were the Iberico pork followed closely by the garlic fried rice and the sugar snap peas. If we could've ordered one fewer dish, it definitely would have been the Kona kanpachi. While the fish was flakey tender and the the skin was cooked to be perfectly crunchy, the portion size was far too large for two, and I thought the coconut ginger sauce felt a bit diluted and not as flavorful as advertised. I wish our server warned us that we had ordered way too much food, because we brought 85% of this dish home as leftovers. While I don't necessarily mind having leftovers, having leftovers on vacation -- with less than ideal heating methods available (i.e. hotel microwave), is not great. Overall, I couldn't help but feel this dish was somewhat a waste of money for the two of us. On the other hand, the Iberico char siu is a dish I'd order again and again if I were to come back. The pork was lean and grilled to perfection. The charred end pieces were some of my favorite bites of the night. I didn't miss the fatty bits that are typically present on a piece of char siu pork, and the mustard that accompanied the dish was not over the top spicy like some of the mustards you find at dim sum restaurants. The garlic fried rice was packed with so much garlic flavor. One criticism I had with the dish though is I wish the hot sizzling plate the dish was served on was even hotter. The rice that was in contact with the plate didn't crisp up in the same way that it would with a Korean bibimbap served in a hot stone bowl, or the socarrat at the bottom of a Spanish paella. Nonetheless, the dish was well-seasoned. If you want to save a bit on carbs and not fill up, you might want to skip this dish. Overall, the dining under the stars experience at Canoe House is hard to beat. The service is incredible, the included validated valet parking experience is seamless, the ambience of the hotel where the restaurant is located is breathtaking, and Chef Rhoda has really done an wonderful job with the vast majority of the items we tried. I would not hesitate to recommend Canoe House for celebrating a special occasion if you're visiting Hawaiʻi.

Holy cow... the flavors were so unique and I've never had something like this before. You'd think…read moreyou tasted similar things since it's all the same sauce bases but they pair it so perfectly together to make a delicious dish. The red cabbage salad had a yuzu/soy dressing and came with dates. So. Good. I assumed it was overpriced for a salad with so little but honestly it shined. The pull apart bread was good and warm but nothing special. Filling! The garlic fried rice? Idk how they make it so good it sounds so basic but it was the perfect seasonings where you don't feel the icky garlic breath but each bite was so savory and yum! Mahi mahi dish - the roasted carrots were my absolute favorite. How do they carmelize them that well idk, The pork dish was also killer. I loved the yuzu mustard sauce and the pork was super tender and juicy. Again, not usually a pork fan but this one nailed it!! Friendly staff - they were very attentive and helped clean up a spill that we accidentally made within a matter of seconds :-) thanks!
