I recently visited the Aveda Institute for a hair service. While I know this is a school, the student needs to show much more care and attention to detail. Areas for improvement: * Shampooing: The student was a bit awkward and careless with the water, leaving the back of my shirt soaked. * Blow-Drying: The process took too long and lacked the style I wanted. * Safety: I was accidentally struck in the eye during the blow-dry. I now have a minor red eye. Students need to be much more conscious of their surroundings and the comfort of the client. read more

From the student perspective, its messy,theres cliques, unprofessional, and the instructors get too involved in the students personal lives. The education was really bare, mostly independent work. If you want more personal instruction, jd academy seems to have more on hands with instructors. I am truly grateful to have Educator Shawn as one of my instructors. He is a wonderful educator, and I appreciate the care, patience, and skill he brings to every demonstration. Shawn took the time to show us proper fingertip placement on the face so that our touch stayed light, even, and comfortable for the client. He taught friction with clear, controlled circular movements and explained how to work on the skin without dragging or stretching it. I especially appreciate how he taught effleurage. He demonstrated the long, gliding strokes that warm the tissue and introduce product, always reminding us to work in the correct direction toward the lymph nodes. His calm, hands-on guidance made the movement feel natural. For petrissage, Shawn showed the gentle lifting, rolling, and kneading techniques used on the face. He was careful to explain the difference between facial pressure and bodywork, and he gave individual feedback so we could practice with confidence. He also taught gommage in a way that was easy to follow--how to apply the product and how to use the fingertips in a rolling motion to lift it away without irritating the skin. What I am most grateful for is his teaching of manual lymphatic drainage. Shawn explained the pathways on the face and neck and demonstrated the slow, rhythmic strokes that encourage drainage. He emphasized a light, consistent touch and never rushed us while we learned. Shawn's demonstrations, patience, and willingness to correct our hands one by one have made a real difference in my learning. I feel more confident and better prepared because of him.
