Whenever I go here I come out looking stunning!! I have been coming here since I was teeny tiny and am excited to go again!! On May 19, 2026, I had an amazing experience with Marie who really listened when I told her I'd been wearing a super short natural for 50 years [yes, 50 years], now wanted a change after letting it grow for several months, and trusted her creativity and skill. She cut, styled and taught me how to care for the lovely style into which I could let my natural, silver curls grow. Her beautiful personality infuses the vibe of the shop and seems contagious. I went in for a blow dry and flat iron. The vibes were great and everyone was really nice. It was my first time getting my hair professionally done in 3 years so I was very excited so I was extremely disappointed when the "flat iron" only lasted 3 hours. I left the salon at 6 and went straight to dinner and by 9pm, my hair had already reverted to a blow dry and my roots were starting to curl up. I expressed my hair needs to the stylist (doesn't like oil, isn't compatible with a lot of protein treatment, reverts easily if the right products aren't used) but trusted her expertise. I woke up the next day (today) to greasy hair and will have to wash and restyle my hair. Everyone who came in for a curly style looked great after so I think that might be their expertise, not straight styles. read more

I was genuinely excited to start my curly hair journey here. I'd booked with the owner and hoped to become a regular. But the day before my appointment, I came down with something and immediately called to reschedule. I wasn't trying to skip out--I was trying to be responsible and find a solution. They informed me of a late cancellation fee, which they do notify you of when you book, so I offered to come in anyway. That's when they told me they wouldn't see me because I was sick (understandable, that's exactly why I'd called ahead!)--but they still planned to charge me. The way I see it: if you're going to be rigid about cancellation fees, you also have to allow clients the option to come in. You can't refuse service AND charge a fee. I did everything I could to be upfront and considerate, but they still insisted on charging me--just with a 50% discount. I was essentially penalized for something out of my control, even though they were the ones refusing service. Cancellation policies like this reward people for showing up sick and coughing on the stylist--because apparently that's better than rescheduling. In the post-COVID era, businesses need to do better with sick policies, especially when a client communicates clearly and in good faith. If you're considering booking, just know that if something unexpected comes up--like getting sick, a fender bender, or childcare falling through--there's no flexibility. You'll be charged, no matter the reason. read more

She also added curtain bangs that I wanted (and was quick and precise). (Hint: It's easy to google pics with the hairstyle terms I just used, and I recommend googling articles with pics to help you describe your desired haircut in words when seeing whatever stylist. I brought pics in, too. Jaretta was grateful for that, which I know not every stylist cares about.) Based on the Andre Walker's hair typing system for curly hair, my curls are mostly 3b/3a with a little 3c. The cut she gave me is quite hard to get right. Many have tried and failed. I was so happy with my wavy/curly cut by Jaretta! This was my first dry cut, and the end result was so much better than wet cuts with a blowout that I've had in the past. My hair has never been this curly and easy to style after a cut. I went in today for a trim / shaping, and left in tears. I asked for about two inches off, and my stylist took off closer to 4-5 inches, with some layers as short as 2-3 inches from my scalp. With curly hair, the result is a really strange looking lopsided bob. I've never had hair shorter than shoulder length, and my hair takes a long time to grow, so it will be months before it looks normal without random strays. My stylist didn't seem to be paying attention during the haircut or shampoo. She was chatting with other patrons/stylists and didn't even notice that all the hair she was cutting ended up on the chair and in my lap. At the end of the appointment, when I pointed out the end result was much shorter than we discussed, she explained she had no choice because my hair was so damaged. My hair IS dry and damaged, but that doesn't explain why I have all these strange micro layers. Anyways, I would have expected a heads up if she was trimming twice as much as we discussed. In the end, the salon discounted me $100 (so I paid $140 for a deva cut), and offered me complimentary deep condition for my next appointment. I will not be going to this salon again, so that's not much help. Overall, very disappointing. read more

I almost never post on Yelp, but after today's amazing experience, I knew I had to let everyone know just how much this salon is a MUST go. I have wavy/curly hair and always wondered how I could get my curls defined. But my issue was always that I am very minimal when it comes to a hair care routine. I had a stylist at a shop in the peninsula who used to cut my hair in layers, which definitely helped thin out my hair, but never gave me the defined curls I sought after. Once this stylist retired and then the pandemic happened, before I knew it, 5 years had passed without a haircut and I just gave up on my curls looking like what I saw in commercials. Then in steps Jaretta, and this dream has come true! I had heard of this salon from others for some time but after so long without a proper haircut, I was really hesitant. But after reading their reviews and searching through their site, I decided to just jump in and book an appointment. I booked Jaretta based on the reviews I was reading and the time slot since weekends are best for me to get to this area, and I am so glad I did! Jaretta not only walked me through the whole haircut to explain how the cut would emphasize my curls, but also really listened to my current hair routine. I recently visited Madu Salon for what should have been Pintura highlights and grey coverage, which I had a consultation for a month prior. As someone with textured hair, it was challenging to find a stylist I felt comfortable with, so I booked with their master stylist, Marie, based on a referral. I traveled from Walnut Creek and spent an entire day at the salon, from 10 AM to 6 PM, mainly under dryers for unexpected moisturizing treatments. Despite my clear request for a certain style, Marie over-bleached my hair, turning it a coppery red instead of the blonde highlights I wanted. She never discussed adding the moisturizing treatments or their cost beforehand. Shockingly, I was charged $1100, which was never disclosed during my consultation or in any pre-appointment communications. The result left me extremely disappointed. My hair is not what I wanted, and I still need to wear protective styles because I'm unhappy with them. Marie tried to justify the outcome by saying it was to preserve the integrity of my curls, but this should have been communicated during the consultation, giving me the option to choose another stylist if necessary. I feel misled and overcharged, and now I need to wait months to correct my hair, which will likely cost extra due to the color correction needed. Another thing that struck me as odd was Marie's decision to apply an all-over color of two different browns before attempting to lift my hair. This significantly affected the outcome. As a non-hairstylist, I find this technique questionable, and others I've consulted agree. Dyeing my hair a dark color before lightening it seems counterproductive, as the dark dye would likely cause the bleach to turn the hair coppery red or inhibit the lifting process. Although I can understand the freestyle method without foil, I don't understand why Marie dyed my hair dark before attempting to lift it. While the salon had a nice atmosphere and the other stylists were sweet, I can't overlook the poor service I received. I hope Maadu Salon reaches out to make this right. I am just really disappointed, but I'm trying hard to accept my new look for a few months. The photo of my hair was taken immediately when I got home. After a curl cut consult with Jaretta, I was all in. While she is a straight-haired goddess, she really knows her way around curls. Omg, I can't believe I never wrote my review for this salon. I went to Madusalon on Feb. 22nd.2020. I've been natural for well over 10 years now. After becoming tired of my hair having no form, I made the investment to get my hair done here. My stylist was Sasha. First off, the salon was SO clean. The staff was super friendly and they ran a tight schedule. I was admitted in a timely fashion for my appointment. Second, Sasha was a GREAT listener. I told them to "have fun with my hair" and they took my hair to Disneyland and back. I absolutely loved my cut. It was quite refreshing and really fit the frame of my face. They used JessiCurl's Spiralicious and the DevaCut conditioner on my hair. Sasha was great about not using only DevaCurl products due to the recent lawsuit alleging that said products were destroying people's natural curls. In the end, I ended up with happy curls (you can take a sneak peek of the photos I provided below). While the salon is expensive, curly hair tends to be a more expensive endeavor than other hair types and I must say that Madusalon lives up to the hype. My hair has grown beautifully since my cut and I hope to see them again soon for another service. 10/10 would recommend this salon for curly girls especially those with tighter curl patterns. read more

I got in with Lorena a few days before the new stay-at-home order and I am so glad that I did! I hadn't had a DevaCut or any kind of haircut since June 2019. Hella straggly! I booked with Lorena because her cuts and styling of curly-curls (3c-4c) are excellent. She does justice to every curl throughout the entire process and she listens. Excellent consultation skills! Due to the precautions taken to limit COVID-19 transmission, I didn't get to experience Lorena's post-Deva-cut styling skills, but you don't need much when the cut is on-point. Great shape. Tons of curl poppin'---all the things this 3c+4a head loves! I did forgo the wash, condition and styler application because I didn't want to be at dinner with wet hair, but I look forward to rebooking with Lorena @better_hairdays in a few months.
