    New hair!

I wish I could give Hung 10 stars! Since moving to SF in 2019, I've had countless "blah" haircuts -- then I met Hung, who took my lifeless hair and made me feel beautiful again. I finally found my guy! Warm, welcoming, and oh-so-very talented, Hung is everything you could want in a stylist. I always leave feeling confident and renewed, like I can take on the world. If you are looking for someone who cares how you feel after you've left his chair, you've found him! It's super easy to book an appointment online and his lovely salon is conveniently located in Soma near Design Plus and other shops. If you're reading this, just call and make the appointment!

I relocated to SF almost two years ago and finding a new beauty team has been such a challenge. Going to Project XO feels like the best fit. The work is probably better than my previous stylist I was with for 10 years. Sometimes we find comfort in routine. Glad I googled around and found this place. Hung is an expert and knows how to fully execute your vision. I wanted to darken for the winter and he knew just where to take me. I also have major concerns with growth and damage, he also takes this into account for my hair plan. He takes pride in his work and it shows with the end results. Highly recommend this cute salon. I won't be going anywhere else anytime soon!

I found this place online when I was searching for a place to book a balayage appointment. It seemed like they were legit and did great work. So I went to schedule a color consultation online (appointments MUST be made online). Before the appointment, I had something come up. I tried to cancel online but was unable to do so. I tried calling and no one picked up at the salon (might I add, no one EVER picks up when you phone the salon which was another red flag). I tried to then rebook for another time that fit my schedule but the online portal wouldn't allow me to. I tried calling several times and (of course) no answer. I then tried to make another appointment with a different email address, thinking something might have been wrong with my existing account since I was unable to re-book. This worked, and my appointment request went through. I then immediately got an email (to my original email address which was odd) from Hung saying he will never be able to take me for any future appointments, suggesting I go to a different salon. He stated he had emailed me this information already, when in fact he had not sent me anything. I was also thrown off as to why he would say this since there was availability for new clients / consultations online. He had acted as if I booked an appt and never showed. Keep in mind this was a CONSULTATION and not even an actual appt where he would be out money!! Overall, a very negative customer service experience and I'm glad I never had to set foot inside this salon. I will gladly take my business elsewhere. According to some of these reviews, it sounds like I dodged a bullet. For a salon that seems to charge so much, you'd think they would treat clients / potential clients better. Giving this 1 star is far too generous.

I'm so sad to write this because I had high hopes for this place. I also really liked Hung and the pictures posted up on Yelp and IG looked really nice. However, posted with this review is my hair just 2 weeks after I had it done and two washes in (left photo) and what it looks like after I got it done with Lily at another salon. At first I liked it because because it was styled nicely and curled but after a single wash... there was a problem. To be fair, I told him that I trusted him so he could do whatever color balayage he wanted to. He said he'll make my hair sunkissed. However, this was not a balayage. I had to go to another salon to fix my hair (result is right photo) - the girl who fixed my hair told me that she could tell he handpainted the highlights, which works well for people who have blond hair but not for Asian hair. I was surprised because his salon specially said that he specialized in Asian hair. Hung was super nice and when I messaged him about toning my hair this past weekend, he responded quickly. But I became nervous that he would ruin my hair again so I just decided to go to someone else. It was a waste of $220. ($180+$40 for tip) EDIT: A lot of people have asked me where I went to fix my hair! I actually went to a place down in SoCal called Salon XIII because I was down in SoCal at that time. I definitely recommend it if you plan to go down the area. Ask for Lily!

This is hidden treasure if I had to describe it. Small place for first timers, or even clients who has had there hair done for a while as well. Glenn is SUPER friendly, very informative. Not to mention a great conversationalist, I'm glad he takes the time to talk to you, and not just make it solely business. I love the output he has given with options I put out, it makes you feel that he cares, and wants to make sure that what you want is something you really will love. With so much as 30+ experience as a hair stylist, as well as 2 previously owned Salons. That is something you really see in him, his passion for it is another factor, to really consider.

I've been going to Hung since I lived in San Francisco in 2010. He is the best at what he does and has always given me the most amazing cut and color. His reservation system is easy and to the point as well! I currently live in Los Angeles and have not found someone to his caliber, so I make it a point to fly out to still have him as my stylist. Thanks Hung! You're the best!

I've been going to Elisa for years. She's great and gives amazing head massages. Actually my wife and I both go to her. My hair is always on point. Thanks Elisa!

One the absolute best hair cuts of my life. Came out clean cut and slightly more interesting than normal. More compliments than I used to.

I'm going gray and I wanted to get them blended with my black hair. She made my appointment with Zoe, which she described as a miracle worker. And she really is! She explained how the dye would naturally fade so to gray roots wouldn't look so harsh as my hair grows. I forgot how long it took because I was having a nice time with my friend, and also was super relaxed after getting my hair washed and brushed. But my hair looked fantastic! And I looked refreshed. My hair color looked natural, not like what you get with boxed dye where you can tell someone just did it. And Zoe was spot on as my hair grew and the dye faded. It looked blended and it gave my hair some dimension. But now that my roots have grown to about an inch (which she predicted it would by this month), I've made an appointment for another hair dye and for a haircut. The vibes are fun, cool, and approachable. For someone like me who has usually gone to Asian mom-and -pop salons (because I feel more comfortable as the stylists there are more knowledgeable of Asian hair), going to a salon like Spoke & Weal was intimidating at first. But everyone there was so nice and welcoming. And seeing Zoe do her magic and hearing how knowledgeable she is made me at ease. This salon is more on the expensive side, especially if this economy is hitting you hard. I am fortunate that I'm at a place where I can treat myself to a nice salon experience. I also like my hair long, so I don't get it cut often. Parking here can be difficult so make time for that before your appointment. And check for any events happening in FiDi and Chinatown to determine how bad parking will be. Otherwise, take public transit if you can.

Sheila is super cool, creative, and actually listens. She walked me through what would work best for my face shape, my hair texture, and my lifestyle, and gave me tips and ideas I've never heard from any stylist before. She's receptive, thoughtful, and you can tell she genuinely cares about getting it right. Plus... she served me an espresso. An espresso! The vibes were immaculate -- clean, stylish, chill energy all around.
