She told me she could do it, but unfortunately, it became clear during the haircut that she did not know how to achieve the style. She cut my hair short and then tried to use a hairdryer and comb to make it look like the pictures, but it did not work. I showed her the reference photos again and asked if she could get help from someone else. She asked a colleague, who showed her how to cut the style, but she still seemed unsure how to do it. Eventually, the owner had to step in and finish the haircut for me. For a long-hair haircut that cost about $100 total ($85 for the haircut plus a $15 tip), I was very disappointed with the experience. At this price point, I expected the stylist to be able to achieve the hairstyle she had confirmed she could do, or to be upfront from the beginning if it was outside her expertise. Unfortunately, based on my experience, it was not worth the price or time.

Alexis gave me one of the best haircuts I've ever gotten. She was patient and consultative, and really took the time to get to know me and my hair. I have curly hair so finding a stylist who gets it can be sort of a nightmare for me, but she was incredibly knowledgeable and took all of my concerns and requests seriously. She asked me plenty of questions about my hair, the products I used, etc, which normally leads into a very sales-ey angle, but she didn't try to sell me any expensive salon brand products. Just recommended that I start adding conditioner to my hair before I surf. Also, the worst part of many haircuts for me is the blowout at the end because they always style my hair straight and weird looking. But she took the time to dry it into its curl so it would look more like my natural hair. Such a small thing but honestly it meant so much and went such a long way toward making me certain that this girl legitimately understands curly hair. I cannot believe how cheap this haircut was for the care and quality I got. read more

Before I describe my haircut, let me say how happy I am to have met Patti, my stylist. Not only is she a talented stylist but she really LISTENS to what I want to do with my hair. She goes above and beyond when it comes to wanting to satisfy me as her customer. For example, if, the day after I get my hair cut or colored, I notice something in the color or cut I would like to change, she is always willing to accommodate my desires. I love going to her, for this very reason. It is such a pleasure to work with a stylist you can trust will always listen carefully and create a style and the color what you want. She never imposes what she thinks is best-- she only helps you discover how to make what you want the best that it can be. And I also love coming here for the ambiance of the place. It feels like a spa, and Patti always offers me coffee or tea! read more

Ursula has been my hairstylist for about 6 years now and before I met her I rarely cut my hair as I would always get exactly the opposite of what I asked for. Honestly a visit to the dentist sounded more fun than getting my haircut. My hair had not seen scissors in about 9/10 months, so I made an appointment through the salon, luckily got Ursula, she cut my hair and now I will never go anywhere else. She cuts my hair just the way I love it, layers it so I do not have to blow dry or style! And when I do blow dry it or style it my cut looks just as amazing. Not only does she do an amazing job on my hair, Ursula has made getting my haircut fun, easy and I love her company and energy! I highly recommend her!! Thank you Ursula!!! read more

During my appointment, Becks made drastic, irreversible changes to my hair without my consent. Despite explicitly knowing my hair history--including recent post-breastfeeding regrowth--and knowing I have naturally thin hair and have always kept my shortest layers at shoulder length, she cut off over 8 inches of length in sections, thinned my hair out to a third of its original volume, and cut top layers to ear-length. The result was a severely thinned-out, top-heavy mullet shape, blended down to a sparse fraction of my original length in the back. I had to stop Becks mid-haircut to ask what was happening when I noticed the heavy thinning and short chops at my ears. When I pointed out the ear-length layers, she took zero accountability and repeatedly pointed to the thin long strands in the back to claim she "kept the length." To make matters worse, during my previous couple of visits with her, Becks charged me full price for dry cuts without a shampoo, wash, or style, claiming this was her standard procedure--which was not the case for the four-plus years prior. I waited over three months to write this review to see if a few months of growth would make it manageable. It hasn't. The damage cannot even be reshaped by another stylist; my only option is to wait a full year for the ear-length layers to grow back. I now have to wear clip-in extensions every single day from the moment I wake up just to feel presentable. We began this journey in another salon with Emily nd I've followed her into her Salon, I mean can you even imagine the growth and hard work? You're own salon in the city?! Ok so let me begin this experience. I've been with Emily for 4 years now when I initially wanted to go copper. I researched for 2 months in search of someone that wasn't overpriced and had the skills. I learned quickly that I was looking for a colorist. And Emily was just that. I have hair that many people would called raven colored... naturally. I worried about the impact of bleach in my hair as I hadn't colored it in 10 years. Emily walked me through a very thorough consultation and at the end asked me how I felt and if I wanted to continue with the session. I accepted because I felt confident in her work and her reassurance and validation. After some hours and constant foil checks and just body checks overall (asking me if I wanted to stretch, needed a break, water, food and a drink) my hair was at a comfortable level where she felt she didn't fry it but it could be lifted safely. Many will lighten you fast slab some stuff on and send you on your way just for you to wash style and it's falling apart. This was not that kind of horror story. We applied the color and it looked beautiful. As I went with her I learned so much about coloring and detail. Emily was and is the best at it. Our sessions are not only satisfying in the hair aspect, but we've shared so many funny stories and memories that Siren Salon is a place I go to decompress and visit what feels like old friends. The vibe is great too, the other stylist make it feel like they've serviced you with how friendly they are. And let's not forget how talented Micah and Melinda are. I'm so grateful I've found a place to not only service my hair needs but to feed my soul with care and positivity. I tell people all the time about Emily and when they go somewhere else and I see their hair they say "I knowww I should've gone to your girl." I always reply "you need an amazing COLORIST someone who knows the science of hair" and that is exactly what Emily is. I've added pictures below... Thank you for coming to my ted talk!
