The problem is that **this policy was never communicated to me** when booking, during my appointment, or at checkout. Instead, I was offered a complimentary product, which I declined. To be fair, my stylist was very pleasant, and my complaint isn't about her personally. Do not ask for Erin Nelson!!! She casted a spell on my hair that whoever looks at it cannot help themselves from complimenting me. I've never had a haircut in my life that received so many compliments. From friends, family, and colleagues of all genders, shapes and sizes. I hate I get so many compliments that now I have to keep this hairstyle and go often to Edo salon. Send help!!! Erin also went above and beyond for the one hour cut when I should have gotten the transformation cut since I've never had bangs before. I was nervous the shag wolf cut style would not be good but it turned out great on me. Also I hate that she told me my hair was waxy and recommended innersense hair care products which now made my hair super soft and healthy. I can't spend so much money!!! This review is for Joslyn! I have very unique hair which is totally straight on top and ringlet and S curls underneath. It's also very thick and prone to dryness and brittleness. Hairdressers always struggle with it because they don't know how to incorporate all the textures and layer it well. Joslyn took a ton of time to understand my hair and figure out the right approach. She was patient, kind, and clearly knows a ton about hair. I also appreciated how excited and grateful she seemed for the challenge because that hasn't always been my experience in the salon. Completely did not listen to what I wanted. I usually have no issue with my haircuts no matter how different they are from what's in my head, but I cried for a week after leaving Edo salon. I asked for thin bangs and a little weight taken off my hair. I let with all the weight of my hair concentrated in the bangs. The rest of my hair is gone and whittled away into a little tail. I've been wearing my hair up for months now to hide what happened and I think it will take a year at least for my hair to get back to normal. read more

I've been to Edo probably 6 or 7 times in the last few years (both locations) and overall had a good experiences. However I had a very bizarre and unpleasant experience. I went in for a bang trim with the stylist I had seen most recently for a cut. Apparently there had been a miscommunication between her and whoever booked me and she was clearly upset that I had been booked too far out from a full cut. I was really uncomfortable and offered to just leave but she wanted to go through with the service. From that point on I couldn't say anything right. She asked me what I was looking for but as I was trying to describe it she gave me a completely blank stare and wouldn't say anything, like I wasn't making any sense. So I just kept trying to explain but felt totally gaslit. Eventually she started telling me what was wrong with what I was asking but wouldn't offer any alternatives. When I tried to suggest we just clean it up a bit she said I needed to be more specific but when I was specific she would say that wasn't possible. I've had bang trims before but never had it feel so complicated, I'm not a hairstylist myself so I couldn't win at this guessing game of what words I was supposed to use. It was so humiliating. I literally felt like a kid again getting chastised by the teacher. It was clearly a punishment for having booked the service incorrectly and she indicated more than once that I was wasting her time. In the end she did do exactly what I was envisioning and it took literally 2-3 minutes. To be clear, I wasn't trying to scam her or something, this is not a complimentary service, it costs $50 plus tip. I obviously cannot go back to that stylist or location, it was made so obvious she did not want me there and no haircut is worth walking out of the salon feeling like that. read more

Jocelyn did magic on my hair. I came in with a mop down to my waist and she managed to keep the length but take out the bulk and shape it to where it moves so nicely! She also taught me how to apply my curly products correctly. I was a little worried because a lot of the pictures online show bangs in the after photos - but Jocelyn was a total pro and listened to what I wanted and executed amazingly! I went here for a free curly cut like 2mos ago and it was not a good experience. Even with help from the instructor my haircut turned out several different lengths, *much* shorter than I requested, and just generally not what I wanted at all. My hair is still recovering and it's very frustrating. It's impacted my confidence and ability to style. If this salon advertises curly cuts, I think it's their responsibility to make sure all stylists, including those in training, know how to care for coily, curly, and textured hair. Had the worst possible haircut. I can't believe I paid $$$. The layers were cut very poorly. I'll have to get my haircut redone in NYC. I honestly wish I liked the place since it so close to home. I think the difference is that my friend gets her hair done by the main senior stylist and I went with someone less experienced, but paid the same price. I am EXTREMELY upset and disappointed with the service at Edo Salon. I booked with a stylist to get a long layered trim, and just to add some additional face framing pieces. The stylist completely botched my hair, and thinned out my very THICK, COARSE hair without my permission. The photons I provided her for reference were completely ignored, and I am so disappointed in the current state of my hair. The stylist did not even style my hair after the haircut, and she let my hair air dry, making it extremely frizzy. To top it off, I practically had to beg for a refund. Katy rose has consistently given me the best haircuts of my life, hands down. I have long, thick, very wavy hair and the interior layers she snips away give me volume like I've never had, and my hair has never looked healthier. Gives great product and styling recommendations - a five star stylist. Expensive, but only slightly more expensive than what I expect in SF. I'm deducting a star for customer service. When making an appt several months ago, I was sick at home trying to make an appt for the next week. When I woke up in the AM, I realized I had accidentally made it for the next day. I apologized, attempted to reschedule, but they told me that they had no choice (???) but to charge me the full price, $175. I completely understand that hair stylists are independent contractors who should be paid in the event of last minute cancellations, but this was a reservation made less than 12 hours prior. I offered to come in feeling ill after taking a negative Covid test, but they then didn't respond to my texts (they don't pick up the phone) for several hours and said the schedule was now too full for me. They eventually said they would refund me provided I re scheduled with her soon, but never issued that refund. read more

I have been trying to find a stylist who can work with my dense, pin straight hair for a while. I usually have to go out of town or even out of country to get my hair cut properly. I also have a cowlick near my bangs that kind of is my personal enemy. I booked an appointment with Jasiel after meeting another woman at a shop and asked her where she had gotten her haircut from. I checked out her work and it really aligned with who I was looking for to cut my hair into a pixie. When I walked into the salon, the woman at the front desk was so sweet checking me in. The salon had such a fun aura and beautiful natural light. Jasiel, you gave me the best haircut I have ever gotten. Her attention to detail, expertise, and patience is phenomenal. She took my vision and made it 100x better. She even taught me how to style my stubborn hair. It's been almost a week and I will say my confidence has been sky high. I realized that I was going to be paying a lot, but figured that professional styling advice would be worth it. Showed up with pictures of what I wanted and asked how to achieve it. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. I got asked what I liked about the pictures and what I wanted to get, but I wound up with a marginal haircut that looks nothing like what I was trying to get. The styling advice was to let it air dry for a few hours and 'play with it'. Like I'm going to get up at 4am so I can have my hair dry before I go to work... Despite being the first appointment of the day, they started late and rushed the end when the next person came in. I basically got pushed out the door when I wasn't finished (my bangs were left way too long and I wanted them trimmed back). I basically had to shove my payment into the stylists hands as she rushed off to the next person and found out 2 hours later that they charged my credit card. Warning for those who have straight pin hair that is fine!!!!!! Customer service was great the problem was that one of the junior stylist butcher my hair. I explained how I wanted it. I showed some inspiration from Pinterest. I I express that if removing too much hair, my fine thin hair will look horrible. Clearly, she never worked with my type of hair probably only textured hair. She tried to convince me that I have texture hair. When I ask her how many years experience she had while she was cutting my hair she couldn't answer. I love this salon! Neda gave me a legitimately life changing hair cut, she is magic!! I have very straight, flat hair and struggle with haircuts/styling sticking after the first wash back home. Neda's cut with a straight razor has changed the game - my hair has never been so voluminous and textured, even after air drying it with no product or styling. I visited Edo recently to get a haircut from Cody. I've been trying to grow my wavy hair out for a few months. It was looking a mess and I knew I needed help. Cody was beyond incredible. He actually took the time to listen to what I wanted when I said I wanted a cut that would grow out well, but also needed some life right now. He shaped me up, spent a lot of time on the details, and asked questions as he went to include me in the process. I also got a great wash and rinse, including a little massage, and a flawless style when he was done. I left looking and feeling amazing. The shop itself was so serene and gorgeous, and smelled incredible. I also got some great new organic hair care products that have been keeping me looking my best. This was my FIRST cut at Edo and I had the BEST cut with Jasiel last week. She was an amazing listener, kind, and even helped me when i was indecisive on length to cut. She was incredibly knowledgeable, and took her time with my hair. I really appreicate that she was exceptional with the razor too because I had a tramatic shag cut 7 years ago and stayed away from razors ever since. I let Jasiel know and she offered to cut with sheers, but I trusted her with the razor and she did not disappoint! Her open communication, re-assurance, and confirmation on my cut before cutting was 10/10. My hair feels lighter but with much more volume and body. Would highly recommend her for cuts of any kind! I wish I had waited and gone to my regular stylist at my usual salon instead. The stylist posted me (after the haircut) on their Instagram and proceeded to later delete the picture. Came in asking for a root smudge to blend my roots into my dyed blonde lower layers. Paid over $300 for foil highlights and a reverse balayage, after specifically stating I did *not* want bleach or highlights. The stylist insisted the only way to blend my roots into my already dyed/highlighted lower layers was through "gentle highlights." I gave in, assuming she was the expert and my hair would be ok even though I 100% did not want any bleach in my hair...nope! She f*cked my hair up. She also did NOT tell me she was going to bleach the rest of my hair after putting in foil highlights. I should've just left. End result : my hair has been bleached into a spongy, breaking off at mid-length mess, and I have roots/highlights that look like...this. Customers beware: if your stylist insists that they absolutely HAVE to do something you don't want them to do, to achieve the look you want, get up and leave. read more

Sent pictures in ahead of time for cut and color inspiration as requested by salon. Showed an additional set of photos in person to the stylist. We spoke at length (no pun intended) about the length as I was growing it out and wanted to keep it long. The most important part of the cut was to highlight the curls and to increase the look of volume as my hair is fine and thinning. The stylist arrived late and seemed rushed for time throughout our check in. The color was NOTHING like what I had sent in and when I mentioned it she became defensive, lectured me and told me that she didn't look at the photos I'd sent and they were "in the trash". The result of the hair cut was even worse. I have "back bangs" and thin, scraggly, hair. It's been 5 months and it still looks bad. They offered to have the owner fix it but I was too anxious about coming back or about losing any more hair. They did refund the cost of the cut but the whole experience was awful. I don't typically do reviews but I feel the need to warn others. If you are planning on going, do your vetting in advance and make sure you are getting an experienced stylist. I thought my hair would look better by now. But, I'm still feeling regretful and it still looks bad. I've gotten lots of good laughs out of the whole thing though.
