Victoria finessed a tricky purple highlight / lowlight situation so well that I took my chances on a new-to-me stylist cutting my fine, pin straight hair's pixie grow out. I usually get a straight cut or a simple trim for hair but was feeling "adventurous" and wanted to try something new. I decided to get face framing layers with curtain bangs and booked with Bruna and she was such a gem! She did an excellent job for me and my sister's haircut. Note: the rating is only for the appointment experience, as I wasn't able to obtain service. Based on the other ratings, the haircuts and colors are probably excellent. The appointment though was surprisingly complicated, and dare I say, pretentious? I'm a guy with short hair. I've had my hair dyed about 10 times my now, in the US and abroad. Hairetics is the first salon EVER that demanded splitting my appointment into a consultation session, followed by another appointment, at a time to be specified then, for the actual cut & color. My hair was already partially colored when I arrived at Hairetics, so this clearly wasn't my first time getting a bleach. Maybe Hairetics has good reasons for doing this, but for me as a customer with a busy schedule, it's a huge hassle to not know when I'll finally have my hair done before an important event. I've never had to do this with other salons. Steel + Lacquer in SoMA doesn't do this, and neither does The Barberhood in the Marina. The cost would've been around $350, similar to Steel + Lacquer, and higher than at The Barberhood. Bonus points for the unique style of the person who spoke with me though. Very cool! Also very courteous. I just hope they can streamline the appointment so it's a one-and-done kind of deal like everywhere else. At Bolden Santa Monica for instance, I got a perfect cut & color in about 2 hours, including consultation and color selection from swatches. read more

My search for a new stylist was going poorly, and after a truly catastrophic cut at a high end place I am finally happy again. Pasha fixed me up with a super cute cut that'll grow out like I want it, and spent a long time getting my color just right. I asked for "dirty pink" and she blended that, and added depth and layers with darker dyes. After three months of hair sadness this is such a relief. As Fleabag said, hair is everything! I live a long way from SF but still work in the city - so when I am there for work, I try to make the most of it. I scheduled a hair cut for a Tuesday during my lunch break and than for fear of going over my lunch, scheduled a conditioning for the next day's lunch break - both with Crystal. The receptionist/person in charge of scheduling noticed my two bookings and reached out - asking if I wanted to combine them - and helped ask my questions about how long each of the appointments may be etc. So I ended up combining the two services into one day - a hair cut and conditioning for an hour and 15 minutes. On the actual day, I really needed wifi to do work just before my hair appointment and the receptionist helped me get the wifi password - and was friendly etc. And then I had my appointment with Crystal! She was great - took time to understand that I was looking to get rid of my dead bleached ends since I had hair that had been through a few rounds of bleach in the last couple months but had not been cut since January - but that I didn't want to lose too much length. It was very dead - she also understand how I had thick hair and wanted it thinned but not to the point of losing too much volume on top etc. She cut off the dead ends and thinned my hair just to the level that works for me. She also recommended a different, more expensive conditioning treatment than what I had booked but didn't necessarily push it on me like I have experienced before. Very calm, relaxing place. Took my 11yo for his first salon experience and y'all DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Christian is a wizard with colour (and a very light trim of some unruly curly locks) and was utterly gracious and patient and offered stimulating conversation on topics ranging from the chonkiness of bumblebees to the chemistry involved in removing colour from hair. My kiddo said the experience was "better than YouTube" which is probably the highest praise I've ever heard him give about anything. While I'm sure the fun and spooky atmosphere helped entertain him for the 3 hour appointment, I was surprised when he said he's looking forward to coming back. And I think it goes without saying that the colour is AMAZING and has him smiling, which is the most important part for me. Worth every penny. read more

I got my hair cut by Bruna Pantoja in June, it is now September. I'm due for a health touch-up, but my hair still looks SO FABULOUS that I'm confident leaving a 5-star review. Bruna is so kind, patient, cool, and talented. I go to her for a no-nonsense wolf cut 3-4 times a year with thin, full, wavy-ish hair--she always does an amazing job. I once heard that she spent FIVE HOURS combing out the mats on the hair of someone struggling with depression. Any other stylist would have buzzed it, but Bruna went that extra mile with grace and poise! As for my style, I am able to easily maintain it with minimal product or effort. It's like Bruna read my soft butch mind. She is currently a Level 1 stylist, which means I can walk out of the salon paying $100 or less for a cut. Bundle that with the specials that Hairetics regularly runs, and the referral bonus I get for sending her clients, it's an EXCELLENT DEAL! I always enjoy seeing different professional business environments giving back to the art community and allowing their space to be used for display the beautiful works of artists. THE SETUP Hairetics Salon is a wonderful venue because it has a large central space that permits the easy, casual movement of art patrons. There is a delightful array of wall space to display the art. Tiffany has pieces all over the place, and it was wonderful to see the salon mavens give her full access to the entire venue to display her art. My experience here has been really good. They take COVID restrictions and protections pretty seriously here, so I'm really happy about it. Also, their playlist is right up my alley. The creative coloring service that Crystal Jane does is great! I really like the work that she does. Most recently, she told me about the latest product that she's been using when it's time to wash off the dye. I had to go and buy the conditioner right after because it worked so well. This review is for both Heather and Crystal. Heather has been responsible for my dreadlocks looking "top notch" since 2009. She's an exceptional stylist at the top of her profession. Knowledgeable, creative, precise, and versatile. She can expertly craft an an edgy look just as easily as a more subdued one (so don't think you need to have a certain aesthetic to be a client here!) You'll walk out with quality product and solid professional advice. Crystal is the queen of the precision cut. Frankly I am surprised that she isn't competing at hair shows because she's that d**n good at it. You'll walk out from her chair with a fab cut and her colouring is sheer art to be admired. I finally decided to cut my extra long hair since it has been bothering me for quite a while. It's just hard to find the right salon to do it and actually follow the photo I show or style I envision. I went on Yelp and found Hairetics! I checked out the website and reviews and finally decided to book an appointment. I am so happy I made the right decision! I was scheduled with Christian and they did an absolute amazing job!!! Also gives the best hair tips and how to take my cats for a walk (yes, I talk so much about my cats to everyone ). They made me want to actually get my haircut often because of how nice and fun it was! Most of the salons I go to is quiet and awkward lol. The atmosphere in here is very welcoming and comfortable, and I was checked in on a few times while I waited (I was early) to see if I needed a drink or anything. I told Crystal I wasn't too picky about how my hair came out, and she did a great job with that very unhelpful guidance I offered! Love this place. Found them since they're a block away from my work. The inside is always very clean and there's always something new to notice in the decor. My first haircut was with Crystal and she did a great job. I didn't really have an idea of what I wanted, just that I wanted it shorter. As soon as I walked out, some random lady commented that my hair looked beautiful - wow, thanks. Not even a month later I was back for another haircut and decided to add a dye job, this time with Pasha. She is such a sweet person! Crystal is AMAZING! I usually avoid getting my haircut because no one can ever get my weird wavy/curly hair right. At best, they can make the cut look great with the magic of a blow dryer, but Crystal actually took the time to understand my hair type and listen to me when I said I wanted something that I could style in under 2 minutes. Lo and behold, after a wash and styling it on my own (in under 2 minutes - no hair dryers or appliances), my hair looks GREAT! My husband and I absolutely love Hairetics Salon. We both see Crystal who is an absolute delight. I have fine frizzy South Indian hair, and I never found a stylist I could trust. Enter Crystal. Ever since I started going to her, I have found my forever stylist. I happened to also convince my husband to go to her when he was in desperate need of a cut. He wasn't sure, but once he went, he was so happy and has never looked back. I also love Britney who helped me navigate adding in hot pink highlights to my jet black hair. It looked amazing. She was so kind of assuaging my fears because, to be honest, it was a big jump for me. The salon staff is simply the best. Updating: I brought my daughter to Lisa Swiss for her first fun-color bleach and dye job. My child is 14, has long, thick hair, and is quite shy around strangers. Lisa was patient with her and with my questions, helpful in explaining the options available, and was able to answer cost questions I had. My daughter loves her hair, and the work was impeccable. My spouse was the one who took her to the appointment after the consult. Not knowing women's hairstyling, when I asked him if they were drying and "styling" (brushing out, etc.) her hair, he got confused and asked if she could do an updo (after a four hour job). She was patient and kind in explaining that there wasn't time scheduled, at a moment when many stylists would have relished throwing one or both of us into the nearest dark pit on such a request. Very unaccommodating. i was 2 mins past their "15mins" policy because I was rushing from a previous doctor's appointment. and I had called MULTIPLE times before coming in requesting for an extra 2mins consideration.times to make the request that i might get a bit late. They are just THE MOST uncooperative people ever. I reached there a little late, running and exhausted...and all they could do was 'turn me down". I tried to take the blame on myself and gave them the benefit of the doubt. Hence I scheduled another appointment 2 hours after that. I got the haircut from a stylist, and at the salon it looked okay. After returning home, i realised it was one of the worst haircuts I have had in a long time. I will never recommend anybody go to this salon ever. Not only are they the most unaccommodating, but they don't even do a good job with haircuts. read more

A'lizzabeth did an amazing job cutting and styling my hair. I'm basically a hair stylist's worst nightmare. I usually forget to get my hair cut for years at a time, I don't know how to style well, and usually the best I can do in terms of prep in the morning is comb and walk out the door. I've had many haircuts where the stylist assures me it's "low maintenance" only to find it looks cruddy without 25 minutes of work. But A'lizzabeth was different! We spent a great deal of time talking about my needs and lifestyle. We talked through what might work for me, and she did an amazing job washing, cutting, and styling my hair. She walked me through a "get up and go" styling routine, then showed me how to blow dry it out for moments when I had a bit more time. I got FIVE compliments on my hair today, so I figured I should write a review! Since I started getting my hair done by Heather Jordan, I make decisions about my hair style based on the question: "How many times a day can I stand for people to compliment me on my hair?" Seriously. I thought it was thrilling the first few hundred times, but after a while, you kind of just want to buy your groceries without chit-chatting with the cashier about your hair. Heather is great at creative and artistic use of vibrant color: pink, green, blue, etc. She is also masterful at turning your vague half-baked hair style ideas into something that looks good on you. I think the best word for her cuts is "flawless" - I am an obsessive perfectionist and she sees and corrects things I wouldn't notice in 2 months of staring in the mirror. Her recommendations for hair products are spot on - my platinum blonde stays platinum, my spikey hair stay spiked, and my head always smells vaguely of something delicious. Other stuff I like about Heather and Hairetics in no particular order: * The deer head on the wall is named Bubba Ho-Tep * If you're having a particularly introverted day, Heather will be comfortable with not talking at all * They will microwave your lunch for you so you can eat it while in the hair dryer thing The major downside of having Heather as a stylist is that she is extremely popular and I need to book quite a lot in advance. However, since she's just started her own salon, maybe she'll have a few more openings for a while. When my friends ask me for hair stylist recommendations, I just tell them to call Heather's salon and book with any of the stylists, since judging by what I see in the chair next to me, she works with a lot of talented people. read more

I saw A'lizzabeth for a bleach and color appointment. She is absolutely amazing. She is very knowledgable and creative with her color application. I wanted something more lavender gray and she was very honest with where my hair was and what we had to do to get it where we wanted. A'lizzabeth is very realistic with expectations and she is very honest with what needs to be done to achieve the color you want. She is a perfectionist and will not stop trying until you absolutely love the results. A'lizzabeth is a pleasure to spend time with.
