Cineplex Cinemas Empress Walk is a nice, very clean multiplex movie theatre in a great location if you are in the North York area. It's across from Mel Lastman Square. A very convenient location to get to on public transit since it's on the TTC subway line and connected to the North York Centre subway station. It's beside shops, restaurants and dance classes. Staff here are friendly. Personally I think it's an underrated spot. The giant escalator ride up to the movie theatre is neat since it overlooks 3 other floors. There's a small arcade and seating area inside. It's family friendly. They have a good selection of Hollywood blockbusters and IMAX 3D movies, Korean movies, international and indie films. I came here with friends to watch a comedy movie after having dinner and drinks nearby. We had a great time. read more

I rarely go to Empress Walk cinemas but it was the only theatre left showing F1 movie in IMAX after being out for awhile. It was a really great film experience but it wasn't an authentic IMAX theatre as I was told by staff. It's a regular theatre that was converted. But it was the awesome staff I wanted to thank! I ordered my ticket at the concessions stand and James was very friendly and helpful. He even explained in detail each of the 3 print outs of receipts and tickets he gave me! As a long time film goer at Cineplex this is very rare but I loved the extra service from James. Give this man a raise now! I also wanted to thank David the ticket taker because he took the time to take a photo of me in front of the cool Fantastic Four movie display. read more

One of the cleanest theatres I've been to. The floors aren't sticky and it doesn't smell like laundry detergent (where they use it to cover up carpet smells at other locations) Service was really good. Also can validate your parking for up to 3h, which was a nice bonus. Washrooms were clean, but two of the stalls I went into didn't have toilet paper... but the third one did lol. read more

This is a Cineplex that I frequent. The building is connected to the North York Centre subway so it's really easy to get to. This location is great especially during the summer, when it has lots of mid-day show times. It's fairly empty so even though the screens are smallish, it usually never feels overcrowded. During my most recent visit, there was a power surge that resulted in all the movie screens turning off. It took quite a while (~40min perhaps?) for the movie to come back on and we worried that we would not be able to finish our movie in time for the next screening. But the staff kept communicating and we were able to finish our movie, and also received complimentary tickets. So though there was a hiccup, it all worked out in the end. (You can get free parking by validating your parking ticket past the movie entrance.) read more

I still like this theatre. We went to see Deadpool & Wolverine yesterday. We picked the ground level seats as stairs are difficult for us sometimes (arthritis in the knees). The distance from the screen to our seats is perfect. Before the movie we had some snacks in their eating area near the concession stands. I got french fries & hubby got chicken nuggets. The fries were decent. Better than the Rec Room restaurant when we went there the week before. We got our seats while the commercials were running. Hubby then got a bag of pop corn & a soda. Everything was good. The movie started & there were no issues. After the movie we used the bathrooms, which were clean. All in all a smooth experience. I like that this theatre when we go isn't usually overcrowded. Though we never go in the evening which is probably when it's more busy. read more

I love going to the movies and this location is one of the best ones; it's easily accessible via TTC and from Yonge Street (if you're walking there) and it also has underground parking available. The staff are friendly and helpful and all the Covid-19 protocols are in place. read more

Cute little theatre that isnt overly busy. Went there 5 minutes before a movie started and there was still many seats available, the queue in line was rather short too. Staff seemed helpful as we had issues with the printer. Down side - smaller cinemas, very few bathrooms. My movie was in theatre 9 where I believe there was at least 4-5 other theatres and only 1 bathroom to be shared with men and women. read more

Came here yesterday to watch "Wolf of Wall Street." In a huge complex, with the theatre, there's also Loblaws, Second Cup, Staples (there are also other establishments, but I can't remember). The parking lot was a little difficult to find (the entrance on Empress is for Loblaws only), but it was free so no complaints. The theatres are large with a lot of seating. Been here a few times, never crowded, easy parking, and friendly staff. Chairs weren't the best but they weren't uncomfortable.

So first about parking... - First 3 hours - FREE! - Between the 3rd and 4th hour, it will be $1.00 - 4 hours+, you have to pay the regular rates. You have to validate your parking ticket though which is by the elevators. The theatre suggest you to validate your ticket before you watch your movie to avoid congestion after watching the movie and it is true. There is usually a lineup for the elevators and a lineup for people to validate their tickets. So validate your tickets before you watch your movie to avoid lining up twice! I'm a fan of the IMAX 3D theatre here. The sound, screen and 3D effect is much better than other cineplex IMAX theatres in the city. The IMAX 3D glasses are much bigger than the regular 3D glasses so for a person who wears glasses, it is much more comfortable fit for me. Just came back from watching the Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens. So may the force be with you. read more

I do not like watching movies in 3D, the glasses don't sit properly and I have to hold them in place. So I try to find theatres that show movies without IMAX, 3D and all the other options that require those glasses. For some movies that are meant to be seen in 3D, it can be a challenge to find a theatre showing it in "regular". Which is how this downtown dweller ended up seeing a movie north of the 401! Free parking is great, although with just 2 small elevators going from the cinema level to parking, it gets busy at the end of a busy movie. Parking tickets are validated at the yellow machine near the elevators. I like to go to late movies to avoid screaming kids and Empress did not disappoint, unlike Eglinton Town Center where a family brought their kids, all under 5 years old, to a movie that started at 10 pm!!??? Would definitely go back if my downtown options for regular movies fail me. read more

Not quite as busy as the other locations (ie Richmond hill silver city) however this place was close to home. There is underground parking that can be validated free (I think since there was a sign) if you watch a movie. But I walked there so I don't know for sure. We purchased tickets online so we went straight to the mobile booths to print off the tickets. There were many booths available so no waits. We got in to the auditorium fast and found good seats since we were early. Once the movie ended there were staff onsite to collect the garbage right away. The theatres were fairly clean. It's quite convininet as it is in same mall as milestones, ichiban, loblaws, dollarama etc. The only downside was the escalators from the theatre were not on. read more

Empress Walk is a great place to watch movies with friends, on a date, or even by yourself if that's your thing. The theatre is great, and I can't complain about the movie experience. The only thing you could say is bad about Cineplex Cinemas, is that the tickets and food are both extremely overpriced. I usually go up to dollarama, and stock up on Tangy Zangys, Peach candy and a bag of popcorn or chips. I also get a drink from Wendy's and I stuff my bag and put the drink in the middle so that the other snacks act as a support for the drink and keep it from spilling. After I watch the movie, my friends and I go to Wendy's and chill there for a bit, and sometimes we run into more of our friends, and we take out the circular table. All in all, if you plan on going to Empress Walk, bring a backpack, and be ready to pay a good 15-20 bucks on your movie night :D read more

Smaller than the average theatres however super convenient to get to with its easy subway access. I enjoy coming here during the late afternoon with friends because it is not crowded and the line up for the concessions is super short. The theatre is also kept decently clean compared to other theatres but I guess that's because there are less people. read more

Super convenient if you live in the area, and with all the condo's around, it's great to have a movie theater within walking distance. This place certainly gets the job done. If I can't go to the VIP Cinemas on Shops on Don Mills, this is always my go to. It's clean, worth mentioning convenient again, and if you're feeling like munchies or bringing snacks up (they don't seem to check) there is a spanking huge Loblaws right below. read more

This theater now needs an upgrade considering other silver city locations for brand new chairs. The ones here now just seem a bit old. Furthermore, the concession stand is quite lacking compared to other cineplex locations. I wanted ice cream or frozen yogurt, Nada. They serve Starbucks coffee here plus your standard movie snacks. Although Sheppard Grande is closed, this location is also accessible from the subway entrance without the need to go outside. That makes all the difference on a cold winter's night. This location also includes plenty of parking and I believe you can validate your ticket at the theatre. I liked the Sheppard Grande seats a bit better than the ones here; Grande was a bit more cozy and offered alt/indy film screenings. read more

I come to this theatre almost every week. It is fairly pricey compared to the other theatres for some reason though. However this is the closest theatre in the yonge and sheppard area unless you go to Yorkdale. I like coming here because it is usually never busy except for on Cheap Tuesdays. It is always clean and I always buy my tickets online to save time. They have the big IMAX screen here and it is totally worth the extra money. However make sure you watch a big action or visual effects movie to get the best IMAX experience possible. The North York subway station is directly connected to it so it has easy access. Also, after the movie you can hit up your favorite coffee shop or go to the LCBO and have some more fun! read more

This circularly theatre has it's features, it's Pizza Pizza, it's Outtakes, and it has an IMAX theatre, but it's not as good as the Scotiabank Theatre and the Yonge and Dundas theatre. For some reason, this place has an announcements guy and on two occasions during THE FINEST HOURS in IMAX 3D, he made announcements during the actual movie. I mean, really? Mid-sized theatre with the amount of screens - but it's a HUGE space. - accessible by multiple sets of esclators from the ttc entrance. I like this theatre since it's not attached to a mall, and it is a lot less busy than most theatres. Never worried about something selling out. I They have AVX option for the larger films, you can chose your seats - you just pay a bit more extra - it's worth it for opening weekends for the latest blockbusters. You don't have to worry about not finding a seat or getting there early to find a good seat. The theatre does a good job with their selection of films - showing a few more indie films than other theatres in the area. In terms of concessions - it's basic, not supped up like other places - it provides the basics - like popcorn, pop, candies, chocolate.The facilities are the same - it's not an entirely new theatre - but it does what it needs to do, and it's pretty well kept. Loblaws is right below the theatre - if you catch my drift. If you are driving to this theatre - parking can be a bit confusing - you enter the hillcrest entrance into an underground parking lot. grab a ticket, TAKE IT WITH YOU. The elevator takes you up right to the theatre - take that into your arrival time. Parking is validated for up to 3 hours. The machine is right by the elevators - you can't miss it. This is perfect for winter movie-going - step out of your car in the heated parking garage - and straight up to the theatre. As for the IMAX screen if anyone is curious. It's not very big compared to colossus or Scotiabank theatre. This theatre after Cineplex took over got a very stingy and sterile renovation. It used to be more inviting but now with its new paint is just cold. It's odd just can't put my finger on it. Overall the theatre does its job, most screens are decent size. Good audio. Average for me. Theatre and washrooms relatively clean. Okay service at cashier. I had enough points for a free movie, but the cashier didn't even mention it. I thought they should at least remind us or ask if I want to redeem it. I wanted to play timeplay before the show but it cut off in the middle! Boo! You can validate parking for 3 hours when you watch a movie. You just bring your parking stub and put it into the machine by the elevators. But it seems like anyone can just do it if you visit the theater, since no one is really monitoring it. read more

I dont know how they can call that screen an IMAX because the size is just like a regular movie theater screen. Do not under any circumstances purchase tickets online for this theater. After trying their online credit card system 4 times, I resorted to PayPal. Then due to technical issues my film was cancelled. When I tried to get my money refunded the theater said they couldn't give me my money back because I used PayPal. They could only offer me vouchers. Not very helpful if you're from out of town! read more

Great location that is next to the subway and near a variety of restaurants. Also a loblaw and dollarama underneath so you can go there to get food / snacks for your movie instead of buying overpriced concessions. Only fault with this location is that the signage for the washrooms needs to be more visible as a lot of people were wandering around looking for it. read more

Great theater! 3 hour free parking. Very clean. Friendly staff. The hot dog was a bit crap but everything else was decent for theater food. I've gone over 10 times on Tuesday night and it's only been "too busy" once or twice. I usually show up 10 mins before but am still able to get a couple of decent seats. But if it's a movie you really want to watch you might want to show up up a bit earlier so you don't get pissed at this review when you can't get a seat on cheap seat night ;) read more

Been going to this theater for 8 years and I have to say as nice as the Cineplex is, their customer service is horrendous. Its as if they hire the dumbest people on earth as their managers. They think every customer is a lying sleaze trying to watch a movie for free. For example: I've had issues with their mobile-pick-up machine a couple of times (they ran out of paper), so every time they ask me a billion questions to make sure I'm not trying to get extra tickets out of them, then they make me miss the beginning of the movie trying to figure out how to print new tickets. Also, if someone sits on your seats, they refuse to move them if the movie has already started. Instead of a refund, they offer up free popcorn. Like, for real? I just paid $20 for IMAX 3D tickets and you won't refund me cause someone took my reserved seats? Horrible. read more

This theater has changed owner a couple of times. It used to be famous players and it then became empire theaters and now it is cineplex. At least this last change was an improvement over the previous change. This theater has a long escalator going directly two floors up to the theater floor. It kind of floats in mid air while you can look down on the loblaws which is in the basement. This theater is very convenient since you have direct access from the subway. Especially if you are on or near the Yonge subway line, this is one of the easiest theaters to get to that plays mainstream movies and has a fair number of screens. If you are in for a night at the movies this is one of the places to visit. read more

I feel like this theatre doesn't get as much appreciation as it should. This is probably my all around go to theatre. It's consistently clean - washrooms and theatre. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. There isn't another theatre that I can think of that has such a knowledgeable/personable set of people on Box Office. I can always count on their staff to know all about the movies and events offered, as well as helping me make the right decision when I'm not exactly sure what to watch. I don't drive, but it's located right at North York Station (super convenient) and there's actually free parking (for 3 hours). Though I know it's not the best habit to arrive 5 or 10 minutes before your movie, almost 95 percent of the time when I do I can always count on finding decent seats with a little extra room around me. This place never really gets that busy.. especially in comparison to Yorkdale and the downtown core - which I can definitely appreciate. Not everybody wants to be in a sweatbox with 300 people all crammed in, you know? Nothing is perfect obviously and of course Cineplex is expensive, especially now that it's basically taken over all of Canada. But the price here is all the same as Yonge & Eglinton, Yonge & Dundas, Scotiabank, etc. So I can't really fault it on that. I do wish they would update their auditorium seats, though. The inside of the theatres really don't match the new renovated look of their lobby. The only theatre with comfy reclining seats is the IMAX. Bummer. Other than that, I really miss Yogen Fruz. Sigh.
