The theater was clean and not overly packed for a holiday weekend after (Thanksgiving). Truly enjoyed the Zootopia 2 on the "XD," screen, super crisp with great sound acoustics. The seating was comfortable as well considering they rocked back and forth. Definitely recommend this theater for family movie outings. There were no open registers to purchase actual tickets upon arrival and I'm glad we'd already purchased our tickets online ahead of time. So there was no hassle to go to the kiosk amongst other last minute patrons trying to figure out what they came to the movies to see ; very smooth transaction as we were able to scan our phone and get a print out of our tickets and head into the theater without any issues. read more

What could I possibly have expected from a movie theatre? $7.50 "Chili Dog" advertised, ridiculous but I'll bite. Got to my seat to find a chili "flavored" hotdog. Notice in the pic how small the word "flavor" is. I went back to concession to ask about actual cheese and chili etc. Nothing. I asked what they put on the nachos then? They explained everything is packaged and they have no external condiments. They asked if I wanted to buy the nachos so I could put the cup of cheese on it. A friend and I came here on a Friday evening for a showing of The Chosen. There were plenty of parking. The entrance was spacious and well lit. The concession was different than the usual theaters. As you approach the line from the right, you choose what you want, take it up to the cashier and pay. The theater was super clean. The seats don't recline, but they do rock. At first, it's comfortable. As the night went on I realized the seat wasn't so comfortable. I really needed it to recline. This theater is pretty consistent for me as I visit throughout the year. There's always more than enough parking (on three sides of the building). The food is always good. I've yet to order anything that was less than expected and the stands are always fully stocked. Bathrooms are always clean which is a big plus for me. Staff is always very helpful and polite. Family day out to catch the matinee elemental. Used the kiosk to purchase our tickets and choose our seats. We stopped to get popcorn for our movie- they had a big sign that said no refills on popcorn, so if you are used to that it's no more. The popcorn was lukewarm at best. I love fresh HOT popcorn none the less it was still fresh just a little less than warm. We got our snacks and headed to our theater. It was 4 of us and 5 additional people in the theaters so we enjoyed that. Overall If it's another movie I want to catch I might come back otherwise I will wait and rent them from home. I haven't visited this movie theater in a few years but I did go within recent weeks and in comparison to the other theaters around town this seems to be the cheapest as far as movie ticket purchases. They even have $5 tickets on Tuesdays I believe. But I must say I wouldn't choose this as my first theater to go and watch a movie because... I Love Popcorn!! And this theater does not feed my need to be greedy!! I love love love love popcorn and here if you buy the tub of popcorn you only get one free refill opposed to other theaters where it's unlimited. So I was a little thrown back by the one refill option. And in comparison to the newly renovated theaters that now have reclining seats...a more comfortable experience, this theater here is just ok. Super convenient location! It's right beside Chesapeake Square Mall and among several eateries. Decided to enjoy a solo date night and treat myself to a movie. I hadn't been to a movie theatre in God knows how long, so I decided why not. Walked in and the concession/lobby area was extremely clean and welcoming. I thought that because it was 10pm and pretty late that the building would be full of people cleaning and preparing for closing, I was wrong which is a good thing. I'm not a huge fan of watching places close and maintenance with a full house of people. The young lady at the concession stand was amazing, very friendly and welcoming. Cinemark bares a great name in quality movie theaters around the country,I've been in a few and they're always clean the employees are polite and helpful if you have any questions about the movie times and where you movie is located. This particular establishment has a nice arcade area when you first walk in the main entrance on the left hand side and if you're paying for your tickets in person the registers are to your right,the snack area is so directly in front of you with seats for your convenience. We purchased our tickets on line and reserved our seats so when you do it that way we just went to the indoor kiosks and retrieved our tickets by putting in your purchase code or scanning the barcode. The seats are comfortable and you have plenty of leg room so you can relax and enjoy the movie comfortably,so if you're in the mood to catch a movie try out your local Cinemark theater. The reason to not give 5 stars is because the food and snack prices are overpriced but what movie theater food prices aren't pricey!.. read more

I'm so glad that this movie theater was totally rebuilt from the ground up at Chesapeake square. This is one of the best theaters in the Hampton Roads area in my opinion. One great perk is that ticket prices here are great. 8$ for an adult after 5PM on the weekend? You typically don't see that too much nowadays. Kids tickets are only $5. Concession prices, however, will rip a hole in your pocket. Mostly everything is overpriced. But this theater does offer a wide array of snacks to enjoy during your movie. I would suggest getting to your movie 30 minutes prior to showtime during an opening weekend, as seats can fill up fast. This theater also seems to like putting some big hits in smaller theaters for whatever reason, which can definitely be a nuisance. Overall, a great theater that's going to play just about every movie that rolls out. read more

I will not be coming here again. Just watched shaft with my mom and stepfather for Father's Day it was nice until .. we was getting bit by something . The movie ended an we used our ( this is not sponsored) lol iPhones flashlight an they had spider webs under the seats. Told the manager an said thank you .... not I'm sorry to hear that ...nothing ...but thank you an he walked away fast . I'll be calling the district manger !!!! I wish I could give this a negative 5 stars. We went here for the first time tonight to watch Halloween Kills and not even 15 minutes into the movie, nobody would be quiet. Everybody was carrying on their normal conversations as if the movie hadn't even started. People were extremely rude, impolite and obscene. Never will come back here again. I don't recommend this theatre to anybody. read more

This movie theater happens to be one of the ones closest to me and I am very happy that is the case. I typically come here with my son on Saturdays a few weeks after a major release so that the theater isnt too crowded. I like the fact that the matinee price is good all the way until 6pm even on the weekends. They have recently added an XD theater which has assigned seating which is what I use if we come in the evenings or on the weekends of a major release. I purchase my tickets on fandango with a small convenience fee but I like the ability to arrive right when the movie starts and not have to get there super early for a seat. You can also show the ticket taker your phone so you dont need to get physical tickets. The theater is always clean and I have not had any issues. Great local movie theater. read more

It makes absolutely no sense that you have an 11:15am showing but don't open your doors until 11 a.m..... don't come to this place during the first showing because you'll be pissed standing outside with everybody on the inside is looking at you. The theatre itself is good. The concession process needs improvement and the "management" need an attitude adjustment. Went for the first (and last ) time today with my family to see a film. We bought our tickets online and were able to go right to the kiosk to get them. The queue from where those that use the box office to get concessions is somewhat confusing and not well organized. The flow through the concessions is ok and moves somewhat fluidly until you get to the soft drinks. Be warned large drinks are placed BEFORE medium so naturally (or if you're an idiot like me) you grab the large. At this point the concession process seems to collapse. The checkout process is not organized nor is it orderly. There was only a single register open (was only two total IIRC). It took almost 15 minutes to pay for our snacks and (large) drinks. While we were waiting the second register did open but of course other frustrated patrons swarmed it so we stayed in line. At that point we only had three people ahead of us. At this point I was beyond frustrated. Once we cleared the checkout for concessions and navigated our way to get in line to enter the theatre I made the comment to the person checking out tickets "Your concession process could use a review. It sucks". The reply i got was "Have a nice day sir and enjoy your movie.". It wasn't what the reply was but the tone in which it was said. I then replied "I guess the theatre isn't interested in criticism." Once again I received a very snarky "No sir, we're not. Enjoy your movie." At this point I was beyond livid and saw an employee near our theatre. I asked to speak with a manager and lo and behold the extremely polite ticket taker appeared. I turned around and walked away and was once again told "Enjoy your movie and have a nice day." While I admit the tone of my voice when I made my initial comment was terse the last thing I expected was the rude treatment I received. I have two witnesses of my account if there is any question of the validity of this post. I will vote with my wallet and go elsewhere. read more

So my review is gonna be straight forward. 1 star = it's close to where I live 2 stars = self serve are for concessions Cons: If you go on the weekend be prepared to not see your movie. As soon as I walked in their were people shouting everywhere. I thought eh, it'll die down when the movie starts. NOPE! Talking at a normal tone all throughout the previews, and even during the actual movie!! I mean come on these people paid money to talk during the movie? Are you kidding me?? Then on top of that people are commenting on the movie as if anyone cares what they have to say, people are throwing popcorn around the theatre, and people playing on their cellphones. If all this wasn't enough to leave a bitter taste in your mouth, as soon as you walk outside, boom cops. My family and I haven't been to this theater in a long while but when Harbourview was sold out for the movie we wanted to see on Christmas, we decided to come back to Cinemark. I have to admit this theater isn't the cleanest or most organized set up but I think I prefer their concessions set up to the Regal at Harbourview. At Cinemark, you order your hot items from the servers. Things like hot dogs, popcorn, pizza etc. They also have nachos, mozzarella sticks, and pickles lol. Other items like Icees, drinks or candy you can just grab yourself and head to checkout. Much quicker than waiting in the longest line ever while the cashier takes orders, tenders cash and then preps the food as well. Omg I hate that! Cinemark also has reserved seats which is pretty dope. The seats don't recline though. Overall it's a pretty cool theater and we'd definitely come back! read more

I came Sunday afternoon and caught a nice matinee the movie I seen was "Don't Breathe" which was very good. Because we live so close to the Harbour View theater, that's the one we tend to frequent. I wanted to step outside the box and drive a couple extra miles to the brand spankin new Cinemark at Chesapeake Square. Maaaaaaan, is this place sassy classy. First thing you see is the snack bar. It's not a traditional movie theater snack bar, it's more like a cafeteria or better yet, the typical amusement park set up. Grab your tray, pile on your snacks (popcorn, Haagen Daaz ice cream or nachos to name a few) and head to the cash register to pay the piper for your goodies. Oh yeah, it's also a self serve soda fountain. Awesome sauce. Walking to our theater (went to see Total Recall BTW), was like walking through a studio. It was almost too nice to be a movie theater in the heart of Western Branch. Tickets were not outrageous either. We hit the matinee and paid $5.25 a piece for tickets, purchased conveniently at the kiosk right outside the main entrance. Finally, the seats are uber comfy.....and they don't squeak when you lean back!!! read more

My husband and I came to this theater only because the traffic to get to Norfolk was horrible. I was excited to check out my first Cinemark movie theater after reading the Yelp reviews. I wanted a hot dog, since I had not eaten all day. They had one hot dog under the heat lamp, and one still rotating. My husband wanted a hot dog as well. We were waiting for a few minutes for the teenagers behind the counter to notice us (they were deep in conversation gossiping while their phones were in their hands). We finally got our hot dogs and paid. I let my husband have the "fresh" hot dog while I settled for the heat lamp hot dog. We got to our seats in the theater (which were very nice), and began to eat. Because my hot dog was sitting under the heat lamp for who knows how long, the bread was soggy and unappetizing. Now, I know you do not usually go to the movies for the hot dogs, but if you are going to have it on your menu, you need to make sure it is edible...especially when your guests are paying almost $6 for one. Also, it is not a tough job, working at a movie theater concession stand...put down your phones and serve your guests! read more

YESSSSS! I will only go to this movie theater for as long as I live in this area. I normally go to military circle because it's inexpensive and nearby. I also sometimes go to MacArthur when I want to go to a bit nicer theater. Boy, was I wrong. So, so wrong. The Cinemark in Chesapeake Square is fairly priced and freakin fantastic. The snack area is genius. The popcorn is placed in this huge clear glass case and there's a dude just scooping awesome super fresh popcorn. It's truly delicious and fresh. Freakin sweet. Then there are refrigerators with cold snacks and drinks. A huge self-serve drink station. And then...wait for it....ICE CREAM. An ice cream station. A damn ice cream station. I was at Cinemark yesterday 1/12/2020 to see Just Mercy. While waiting in line for concessions, there was maybe 3 people ahead of me. As I'm waiting to be served (I'm next in line) I notice a worker walking around, not doing much, he approached the counter and looks past me and just stands there. He never makes eye contact, but he proceeds to just stand there never looking directly at me. I was waiting for him to say "May I help you", no he ignores me, and he keeps looking at the customer behind then he timed it just right. As soon the customer in front of me leaves, he looks right past me and ask the gentleman behind me "May I help you". If this is not a sign of racism, I don't know what it, but wait it gets better. I head to the next register to pay for my items and hand the young lady my money. She looks at it then she scans it through the machine not once but twice, then she pulls out the marker and test the bill and nothing shows up, then to add insult to injury she puts it up to the light, and looks for the strip. Really, the machine confirmation was not good enough? I will never return to this establishment again. And if I was you I would seriously consider taking my family else where. I came with my children and my toddler and my toddler just could not sit through the movie so I took her out and sat outside the door so my other kiddos could continue to watch... the manager passed by and offered me a free movie voucher and also advised me that if my baby stopped fussing and I wanted to continue to watch movie I could go back in. read more

4 tickets for a matinee= $21 Went to see Avengers, which has been out for a while but it is still popular. They had it in a pretty small theatre and when we showed up at show time, only the first two rows in the theatre had enough room for 4 seats together. I hate being up that close, but my kids didnt seem to mind. Since the movie is still doing well and it was Father's Day, I was surprised that they had it in one of the smaller theatres. This was my second time at the theatre and it is pretty good as far as mega theatres go. I still like going to the Commodore Theatre in Portsmouth to see first run movies. I like this theater. It's slightly cheaper than our other close option. The grub options are good. The seats start off comfy but they rock so far back with your feet off the ground that halfway through the movie both my daughter and my feet were sleep! So the seats are just ok. My biggest issue is the cell phone use. The screen said to turn it off, mute, stop using it. But the guy in front of us kept it on most of the movie. People lower down were using them. It is distracting. Unlike other theaters I have been to I never saw any staff come in to check out things. And this dude wasn't the kind to take action from anyone telling him to stop texting. This is one of my favorite spots to go to the movies. The price is cheaper then most of the nearby theaters and It is always clean. It's easy to get tickets online and some showings let you pre select your seat. The people who work here are always friendly. Recently I tried to use a coupon code on my phone to save 20% on concessions but my service was horrible and the code wouldnt load. Instead of the cashier telling me to step aside or not letting me use a discount she applied her own employee discount to my order. That's good service. I'll probably be back in the near future because it's my go to movie spot and I go to the movies at least 2 times a month. read more

Your personnel are always polite as they didn't disappoint today. However your theatre #1 is atrocious. We arrived here to see Zootopia and we are literally walking in popcorn and trash everywhere in this theatre. I know that you all are busier than normal because it is spring break weak, but this isn't acceptable by any means. We have been sitting in the theatre for almost 45 minutes waiting for the movie, because the prior showing sold out, and there was plenty of time for a quick sweeping. No bueno Cinemark :( read more
