Really love coming here to spend time with a couple of friends. Chairs are super comfortable and the owners are extremely nice and welcoming. They have top shelf cigar choices in their humidor room that are greatly priced. The environment made the entire experience welcoming and they will be hearing back from me and future referrals. Clueless in this whole cigars business, we stopped by because out-of-country friends needed gifts for dads/brothers/boyfriends. The tall nice guy behind the counter was very patient with us and in the friendliest fashion gave us Cigar 101 crash course. He was very helpful and chilled - God knows we needed the help! They have a separate room where they display all the cigars and we spend good 20 minutes there. Meanwhile, in the main room there were about 5-6 men who were enjoying their cigars and a game of basketball on TV. I liked the fact that all three doors were open helping with ventilation. Alrighty. It's time for me to finally review this spot after over a year visiting this place 6+ times. I always try to sneak a cigar in when a buddy is in town, and this place is conveniently located in Old Town Pasadena, surrounded by quality bars (I'm often at Rocco's, watching a sporting event, and some how find my self here after the game is over). So first-off, the staff is very welcoming and helpful- so if you are new to all things cigar, fear not- the staff will be able to point you to a cigar that you will enjoy. The owner, or his son is often in there, and always willing to help as well. You definitely see the regulars in there mingling with the owner/or his son. I have read many reviews on cigar lounges, and have noticed people comment on cigar snobs. Meaning, if you smoke a flavored cigar, it might upset/disturb the other patrons who want a distinct aroma while they socialize. Well, my brother smoked a flavored cigar, and this phenomenon did not occur. No eye rolls or explicit pretentiousness, or laughs (outside of me making fun of him) at his selection from the staff or patrons. The vibe is friendly, and it's easy to strike up a conversation with other patrons, or play a game of chess with a friend. There are TVs in the lounge, and comfortable lounge-type chairs that are perfectly positioned to allow for a good conversation. Prices seem reasonable. I can honestly say that there's a cigar available to you at which ever price point that fits your budget. I'm not a great judge of cigar's quality vs values, but keep in mind, you are also paying for the experience, not just the cigar (unless you are buying and taking it home, which I never do). Tucked away in a corner in the middle of Old Town Pasedena is Cigars by Chivas. I'm not one to frequent cigar lounges very often but it seemed to be a decent selection with stuff in a variety of price points. There are plenty of accessories for purchase as well but at the heart of it this cozy little place is a meeting place with a dozen or so well worn leather chairs to cradle the cigar aficionado while he does whatever else he wants: read, watch the game, play a game of chess or have a worldy discussion with fellow aficionados. I love this place! The moment I walked in I was comfortable. Being a woman can sometimes be difficult in a cigar lounge, but I have always felt comfortable here. Every time I come in I am welcomed with a warm greeting, they also are very helpful with choosing a cigar you will enjoy. The owner is so kind and friendly I have become a regular. My favorite thing to do is go to dinner nearby then stop in and have a relaxing time smoking a cigar afterward. Other cigar lounges I have been to have not been so friendly, I have had to prove myself as a cigar smoker to get help. Location is great--good selection, friendly and helpful employees, great atmosphere. Plenty of comfortable seating indoors. There are always a few TVs on playing sports or Fox News. The employees are generally chatting with the regulars but it has a welcoming feel--not clubby or exclusive. The owner does not like Dennis Rodman. So if you are Dennis Rodman, don't come to this cigar shop. This is not a joke--he told me once that if Dennis Rodman ever comes to the shop he will kick him out. There is some bad blood there. From one BOTL, to other S/BOTL (Sister/Brother of the Leaf) out there; save your hard-earned mulah and spend it elsewhere. This lounge is nothing but a unwelcoming environment; both owner and regulars that don't want your business. The fact that they have a sign that says you cannot sit there unless you spend $10 worth of cigars. What a joke! What if someone wants to smoke a 'under $10' cigarillo? This lounge is breaking the code of conduct for cigar comradery. There are many lounges that allow you to bring your own cigars. The idea being that a cigar smoker will not go into a shop and leave empty handed. Sometimes I want to smoke an aged cigar (+1 year) that I have in my humidor. The cigar shops and lounges can rarely provide that type of cigars, so they welcome patrons to bring their own. Typically, you will end up buying a stick or two to throw into your humidor at home. But there should not be a sign telling the patron on a minimum amount they need to spend. That's ludicrous and doesn't send a good message about their business. But no, Cigars by Chivas is not welcoming this unless you spend hundreds of dollars to rent one of their cigar lockers to store your own cigars. Then, you are welcome to smoke your stogies. I know of other people that are avoiding this lounge like the plague. Then there is the owner, which I will not get into details about. But I will definitely not spend my money here. And even if you would want to spend your money here, they have insane markup on most of their cigars. Yes, it's Old Town. But they can't justify it when there are so little space to sit, and hardly any "leg room" and privacy (if you ever would need that). There are other lounges that have a GREAT environment, and open and positive attitude towards first-timers and people that want to learn about cigars and try new sticks. read more

If you want a real cigar lounge, this is not the place for you! I have been to many cigar lounges across the country, and one of the most important aspects of a quality cigar lounge is hospitality. The owner at this location, Anto, is obnoxious, full of himself, and does not treat new customers well. He'd rather speak Armenian and be a big shot than to serve or help. They don't have a restroom in the store. If you are lucky, they may give you a key to go next door upstairs. They don't treat their employees well, nor do they pay them well enough. Their cigar prices are, of course, higher being in California (taxes and rent), while also being near Old Town, and the business itself hikes up the prices. The business model of this place is higher prices and less volume. That is also clearly understood in the way they treat newer patrons. This place is a no-go for a lot of local cigar aficionados. read more

My go-to cigar lounge in the area. Relaxed boys club feel, local and sometimes semi-famous clientele, friendly staff and owner, central Old Town location. The only caveats here are somewhat limited seating and the parking situation. Anyone that spends any time in Old Town knows that the meter maid parking rent-a-cops are always salivating to write you a $40 ticket. So keep the quarters handy if you're parking on the street and not in the nearby garage. read more

If you park at the DeLacey Parking structure (next to Kenneth Cole), and walk out, Cigars by Chivas is a corner cigar shop on the way to Buca's. It's a small loungey-type room with fine furniture and a table in the middle to play chess or cards. I always see middle-aged men sitting on the leather sofas and puffing their cigars. I never bought a cigar there, but Nat Shermans are almost $8, so I'm guess it's kinda pricey. Well, you're in Old Town, so it's no surprise. I woudln't prefer to get cigarettes here, but it's one of the only places I see tabacco sold, around the Colorado strip. The owner, Anto, is the penultimate cigar shop host who, along with all of his very capable staff, are engaging on many levels. The clientele at any given time are affable and conversive. Ask and ye shall receive should be Anto's store motto. All BS aside, if you like a good smoke, great gab, TV sports, backgammon or chess just to mention a few reasons, you WILL feel quite at home, comfortable and well taken care of - celebrities to see from time to time to boot! My only complaint is that the prices seemed a bit elevated and there was no restroom for customers, a fact which definitely made this place an outlier among the lounges I visited in and around LA. Feeling crumby on a weekend night, I chose to stop by Cigars by Chivas to see if I could make myself feel better. This is the first time I stopped by in a while and not much has changed. New product always comes and goes, and it being a saturday night, the same crowd was walking around. So I make the purchase with my cigar buddy, and grab two coke bottles and make our way outside. We ask the guy at the counter when the outdoor smoking ban takes into effect, he says Nov 14, and doesn't seem too enthusiastic about it. As me and my buddy grab a seat, we sit down and start our catching up conversations to attractive women walking by in front of us and across the street, making their way into the Twin Palms, and apparently it's 80's night, as the music reminds us of movies like Ferris Bueller's Day off and the Breakfast club. Of course, we also see the youngins that feel that they are up to the challenge of a cigar, just because they are pro's at smoking a pack of parliaments. An hour passes, puffing on our cigars and taking occasional sips of our cokes, as we both agree, some things in life aren't worth it, and if we could live our lives in that one hour, it'd be good enough. There are times to talk about politics and current events, and there are times to talk about what a crappy week you had and lament that you're a day away from starting another. These key words that are being used, recession, and words as such, people don't think about when they are living in the times, because they are too busy doing just that, living and trying to get through a day alive mentally. And when you need to take some time and take set your own pace... I've been here twice to pick up a couple of Montecristo Churchill's (about $16 ea) for my lil cousin and I. I like the fact that it's off the busy Colorado strip, however parking is still tough. Nice size humidor with a great selection of cigars for any budget. The staff was really friendly and helpful willing to answer any questions that i had. The decor isn't really plush or fancy like some other spots but it does have a cozy, homey feel. There's newbies and regulars chillin' out enjoying one of life's luxuries. Right away we were greeted by a smoke filled beautiful little place with many smokers sitting comfortable looking chairs. The gentleman Manning the counter immediately greeted us and walked us into the humidor. I was surprised how large the humidor actually was. Great selection and the gentleman asked me what I prefer and immediately made a couple selections.. Grabbed a suggested cigar and a couple of old stand by's just in case. Would have liked to sit there and smoke my cigars but they dont serve alcohol here, and I love a cold beer or whiskey with my stogie... Overall the service was great. ***Review is solely based on the walk-in humidor.*** Was on vacation so did not had the time to sit and enjoy the cigar inside. Basically a grab and go. The humidor and store are well lit, so there is no moldy/drudgy atmosphere present in some cigar lounges. Initially the humidor feels well maintained according to my skin (70 degrees/65% humidity). After smoking the cigar later on, I can attest that the humidor IS well maintained, but the cigar is on the wetter side. I say like 70-73%, personally that is how I store my cigars so that's just extra kudos from me to them. To the people complaining about it being pricey, what do you expect when buying singles? To top that off, it is like two bucks more than the usual price. That doesn't really warrant an attack, does it? The cashier was friendly, cut the cigars for me and provided me with a zip lock and some wooden matches. read more

Chivas always has the cigars I want. The owner is always happy to see you. I purchased my humidor from this place. Yes, a little pricey, but being it's Chivas, I didn't mind. The parking is a hassle, you have to go around the corner to park but I usually enjoy my walk, I think of what I'm going to smoke today! I found Chivas on my quest for the Fuente Sharks about 4 years ago and have been a fan since. Ceniza around the corner is a bit pricey but also enjoyable.
