I visited Cielo Rooftop Lounge on 10/17-10/18 while I was in town for a gaming convention, and I'm so glad my colleague Billy recommended it. I ended up coming by both in the evening and during the daytime, and both experiences were excellent. The manager, Rafael (Rafa), was terrific; he was super easy to connect with and genuinely cared about making sure my party and I had a great time. The security team was helpful, and the bartenders were friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience feel comfortable and fun. The night scenery was beautiful, but my favorite experience was brunch. The food was excellent, the DJ and vibes were on point, and the weather made it even better. I had the Cielo breakfast (pictured), which was absolutely delicious, and I also tried the hibachi--not pictured, but just as tasty. I definitely recommend both for brunch, and of course, you can't go wrong with the mimosas. Overall, this place is a 10/10 for me. Great service, great food, and great vibes. Everything you would expect from a five-star wonderful restaurant. The service was exemplary and the menu was very well thought out and thorough. The Ambiance inside the restaurant is magnificent wonderful views from all the windows. We were in a party of four and we ordered quite a few different entrees. Each one was very very good. They were served with a very pleasant smile from our wait person. By the way she did a marvelous job all night. Are two steaks that we ordered were absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. Service was horrible--- we waited and waited and no one came to take our order for food or drinks--- we had to go looking around to find someone .. ANYONE to help. When we finally found someone she stated that there was call offs food was horrible--- we ordered ceviche.... It was soo raw ( don't get me wrong I know how ceviche is made) but it didn't even sit in the lemon/lime juice -- color wasn't even pink ... not okay!!! Someone is definitely going to get sick.. and when we told the waitress all she said was " i know - I don't like it because it's so RAW" The drinks we ordered came on a display that was so dirty and dusty! I read the reviews before I came and still came and I wish I didn't, but I got a groupon for this place already. We came for Sunday brunch. The walk up was a bit janky but I held out hope. When we walked in, there was a one hour wait, despite over half of the tables being unattended and open. The decor looked run down and dirty. The music was good but it was super loud. The vibes did not give brunch at all, but rather club vibes and they just happen to advertise brunch to get people in the door. When we finally got seated, no one helped us out. After 30 minutes and trying to get someone's attention, we were finally able to wave someone down, who said she was not our waitress but she could at least help us start our order. Our waitress never ended helping us out and we never even saw who it was. The groupon came with bottomless mimosas with our brunch. The DJ or security actually brought out a new bottle when ours was empty and we were looking around for someone. We tried to see where our food was and they kept promising it would come out soon. The lady who helped us out was clocking out at 4 so we checked out and paid with her, even though our food wasn't out yet, because even though she wasn't supposed to be our waitress, she was the only one who helped us out. She said our food would be right out. Brunch was actually supposed to be over for an hour at that point. We waited for two hours and it never came out. We had been here for a total of three hours at this point and we were hungry and were leaving. I wish I didn't even stay that long but I wanted to give them a chance since they said our food was coming out for the past hour and we had been drinking on empty stomachs. I ended up saying something to someone on the way out and they wanted me to tell the manager. The manager was apologetic but that did not make up for our experience. And since we paid with a groupon, we couldn't get our money back. He offered for us to come back a different time. He gave me his phone number and I texted him our experience but I'm questioning how they will even honor this. Not sure if we'll take them up on the offer after this experience. read more

First and foremost let me say that I scored an awesome groupon that gets 2 people in for bottomless mimosas and an entree each for $40. That is an incredible steal for brunch in downtown!! I'm assuming they are running this deal to get people in the building to try it out to hopefully come back and spread the word. However there were a few snags in the experience that if I wasn't getting such a good deal on the meal I probably would've rated it at 3 stars. In order to get to the roof top there's a few flights of stairs you need to go up in order to get to the elevator that takes you to the very top. The view on the roof is great and they had fun saint patrick's day decorations up with pretty loud music playing. We were sat right away but it took a pretty long time for a server to come up to us. When we got our waters they were weirdly sweet like it came out of a soda gun that didn't have the last flavor pushed out before serving our water. Once we did get our server she was very sweet and helpful. I won't lie the wait times here are pretty long but keep in mind they only have the tables and bars at the rooftop so they're relying on one (slow) elevator for food running, guests taking it down to the bathroom, etc. So it seems like they're doing the best they can, just a tad understaffed. The food was pretty decent! Good enough to want to come back and give this place another try. I got the chicken flautas and the tortillas was so crispy and delicious i just wish they served some sort of salsa/crema on the side to dip it in. My friend got the Breakfast sandwich with the side of the house potatos. She really enjoyed it, I even snagged a couple potatos to try and they were so delicious and garlicky! The mimosas come premade in a sealed bottle, I know some people are bent on getting fresh OJ with mimosas so beware if that's you! Me personally I thought it was very tasty we did 2 whole bottles with the brunch. Lastly this wasn't a major issue in the day but I think it should be noted. Our table was very wobbly and unstable. So much so that when an employee asked to take a promotional photo of us when we leaned together the table wobbled so bad knocking over our mimosa glasses right onto our laps and (luckily all finished) dishes. I don't put total blame on the restaurant for this but it could've been a real disaster if it fell on us in the beginning/ right after we waited 30 mins for our food. I definitely intend on coming back to see if it was just a bit of an off day for them as there are some other dishes that looked good plus again the groupon was such a good steal i'd purchase it for another time. read more

By 12pm it started it fill up. We ordered the endless mimosas that lasts two hours. The bar ran out of glasses for the juice and our waiter served us juice in plastic cups. That was strike one. We watched as other tables got their mimosas displayed properly while we kept getting plastic cups and my sister had to complain in order for the waiter to switch it out. We ordered our food and it took over an hour for it to be delivered, strike two. Then the presentation of the food was crazy. My plate was dirty, burnt, something was wrong with it, look at the photos. My friend's food was wrong. My breakfast burrito had one piece of bacon inside. We also had to hunt our waiter down for utensils, strike three. The issue is the food is made downstairs and they have to transport the food upstairs via elevator so whenever you need something they have to go up and down the elevator to get it which can take time because there is only one elevator. The manager was very nice and the music was fantastic. They play 2000s R&B. The two stars are for them. P.S. You have to be patted down by security to go inside which is something I never encountered for brunch. I asked the security why they have to do it and they said for safety reason. My sister chose this restaurant to celebrate her birthday based on its Instagram presence and reviews--but unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hype. First, be prepared to walk up three flights of stairs to reach the rooftop. The aesthetic is decent, but not nearly as impressive or creative as what's advertised online. There are only a few backgrounds for photos, and nothing truly stands out. We ordered both food and drinks. The drinks were enjoyable, but the food was a huge disappointment. It tasted like frozen Costco entrées that had been deep-fried. Everything arrived cold, with a chemical taste and no flavor. The kitchen isn't visible, and servers bring food out on rolling carts from some hidden location, which felt odd and impersonal. The Photo Booth doesn't work--don't bother trying it. It charged my card, but didn't produce any photos. On a positive note, the music was good but the floors were dirty. AVOID THIS ROOFTOP LOUNGE! We made a stop here when on girl's trip after dinner. We had a reservation and were sat at a table. Service was slow, and she rarely checked in on us, not to mention two drink orders were wrong. Once finally getting her attention to close out our tab, the server didn't give us an itemized view before running our card that she required we put down. Once we looked at the mobile receipt, there were multiple food items we were charged for that were not ours! We ordered no food. I reached out the next day and it seemed like they were going to rectify the situation. I've made repeated attempts to get in touch with someone since and have received absolutely no follow-up and no refund. There are too many other options in the Gaslamp area that offer better service, experience and will have an honest follow-up when they make an error. Avoid this business! read more

Cielo continues to be a great night out. This was my third time coming here. This time it was on a Friday night during comic con. The first two times were a Thursday night and Saturday night around 10pm and it wasn't packed. There are typically a couple of groups but enough space to grab a bite to eat or to get drinks fairly quickly. This time I went was a straight up party. I got in before 10pm for free entry via tickets on eventbrite. Entrance is basically a side entrance to a building. Before there wasn't any signs but now there's a small one that says Cielo Rooftop Lounge. You get your ID checked and walk up two flights of stairs and you turn left. This takes you to the balcony view of Mr Tiempo Cantina which occupies the bottom floors. From there you can grab the only elevator that takes forever or take another stairway which is located at the back, up another two flights of stairs. Once you're on the rooftop the skyline is decently visible. Max capacity is 159 and on this night it felt like there was a 100 and it didn't feel too claustrophobic. Maybe because it was open air and there's seating at the sides. So you can feel the energy but not necessarily be bumping into everyone and feel like you're packed in like sardines. Service is okay. Nothing to spectacular. It's decently priced too. Cocktails are about 15 bucks. I like it because it feels like an upscale place but it isn't priced or feels pretentious as one. There's not a strictly enforced dress code neither. Saw a couple of people dressed in the Sunday best and a few people with a crop top and sandals. Jeans and tennis are allowed. All in all... you get this nice mixture of people and vibes. I will continue to come here on slower nights and mix in party nights here and there. read more

Our drinks came out after about a 15 minute wait, but the food was served over an hour after ordering. Do not go for the food! So many better places to eat. If I could give zero stars, I would. I came to Cielo expecting a good time, but instead left angry, hungry, and baffled by the absolute disaster of what they call "service." Over an hour later--still no food. We kept asking our server Jas, who kept giving us the same robotic answer: "It's coming." Spoiler alert: it wasn't. Then her shift ends and Bri takes over, only to tell us--surprise!--our food was never even placed. So we've been sitting there for over 90 minutes, drinking, getting starving drunk, and waiting for food that was never even put in. When we spoke to Rafa the manager, things somehow got worse. He "generously" said he'd remove the food from our bill (gee, thanks--THE FOOD WE NEVER GOT) and that if we wanted to reorder, we'd be waiting another 1.5 hours. Seriously?!? He had the audacity to argue with us and flat-out told us, "If you don't like the service, you can leave." So we did. And then a server chased us outside telling us we had to pay--even though Rafa told us to leave. Absolute clown show. Notice how no one is actually going to pony up the cost? Why would we ever attend an event hosted there if that's the type of company they'd work with. The kicker is I reached out to Eventbrite originally since Brian Levinson wouldn't answer my emails and they said he designated the event as nonrefundable so they could refund us. Now I have to try to dispute with my credit card due to this convoluted scheme to take patrons money on one of the busiest nights of the year. Beyond stunned at the lack of professionalism. The place looks close as you cannot see from the bottom if there is a rooftop! The view upstairs is nice and menu is very reasonably priced. If you have bad knees beware as you have to walk up the stairs -a lot from the side. It is actually 5 floors up. To be fair, we only looked at the area. We never tried the drinks or the food so this review it's really just for the ambience, which will be 4 stars! I know, it wouldn't be fair given I'm not giving a complete yelp experience either. Went to Cielo on a Saturday for brunch for my friend's birthday, and honestly, it was just awful from start to finish. First, the entrance is so uninviting--you walk up three flights of ugly stairs, through this dirty-looking club, wait for an elevator, and finally get to the rooftop. The rooftop itself is pretty, but that was about the only positive part. We waited forever at the host stand with no one even noticing us. Finally, a server called us over to the bar. I told her we had a reservation for 10, but she said our table wouldn't be ready because they'd seated a couple at it. Not exactly our fault! We decided to wait, and she gave us free shots, but even those came in dirty glasses. Once our whole group arrived, she told us to just sit with the couple still at our table. They did give us a free champagne bottle, which was nice, but things went downhill fast. We ordered appetizers that took ages to arrive, and when they did, the wings were raw. Our food orders took over an hour to come out--one person got their food, and it was cold, while tables that came after us got served first. Plus, the waitress hardly checked in with us the whole time. After two hours of this mess, we asked to cancel everything and left to find food elsewhere. Overall, a pretty horrendous experience. While the DJ was friendly and doing his best, this lack of basic service set the tone. Service overall was poor and disorganized. It took about 45 minutes after ordering to receive our food, which was well below average in taste and presentation. We had purchased the bottomless mimosa option through Groupon, which turned out to be a single small pink plastic cup with cheap champagne and an unknown fruit juice that was never refilled--definitely not what was advertised or expected. The rooftop itself felt more like a day club than a brunch venue, with decor that was worn and not well maintained. The walk up to the rooftop was dimly lit and sketchy, and unfortunately, we later discovered that a man had been shot and murdered on the third floor--the same floor where you access the elevator and use the bathrooms--just four hours after we left. Needless to say, this added to the deeply unsettling feeling of the whole experience. Between the poor service, mediocre food, misleading "bottomless" drinks, and unsafe atmosphere, I would highly recommend finding a different location for your brunch plans. A man had came to ask how the service was, and we let him know we weren't happy. It was time to check out, we had half eaten plates. We spoke to the waitress and she said there was nothing she can do for the food since we had ate some, didn't "let anyone know" and that they had 3 calls outs. We ask to speak to the supervisor, and this lady came but was really not helpful and was being defensive. Long story short, we were in the wrong for even touching the food if we weren't happy with the quality. But after TWO hours we just wanted to eat. We were going to send it back and had to wait how much longer? I wish I had pictures of the half eaten food because clearly we did not eat most of it. To top it off, we got yelled at by a buzzer as we were leaving going down the stairs saying we needed to hurry up because he had food and if we wanted to starve. Like??? Do you clearly not see my friend is 8 months pregnant and needs to watch her step? Needless to say, service was TERRIBLE, food was MEDIOCRE, communication was a non existent. I really enjoy the music here, but sadly it's extremely disorganized. The 2 times that I've gone, we've been served with dirty dishes (lipstick literally still on our wine glass) or someone not attending to us to take our order. Recently, we arrived with a reservation in place and there was not a single person at the front to host us. One of the buss boys said he didn't even know who was responsible to seating us. He did however share they were short staffed. Makes me wonder the team communication. I feel that this place needs a strong management team- maybe then ,they could really have a good flow of business. Instead I notice they let in whomever upstairs with no crowd control present. I came here over the weekend for my birthday and I had a reserved table, but when we arrived, they told us to sit anywhere in the place that we did still have drinks from the last customers and it took our waiter asking four times to get the table clear. On Google the menu is advertised correctly, but the Ferris wheel shop price is $32 but when we got there, they said it's $75. So we were a little thrown off by that because everything else on the Google menu was correct besides that. The shots also barely had any alcohol in them, on top of the 10 shot shots for the wheel we also had four other shots and was not buzzed when we left. Then we ordered food and I ordered the steak and shrimp hibachi but the steak didn't come on my plate so when I asked for it, it took a whole another 20 minutes to come out and I was halfway done with my food already. My food came with Fried Rice but my friend's food had white rice so we were really confused and they told us the kitchen was closed so we couldn't fix her order. Since we had no reservation, we put our name on the list and made our way to the bar (about 10 seats) to order some drinks. Stood there for about 20 mins until bar staff took our order. By the time we got our drinks, we were able to be seated. Although it was warm, the umbrellas do a nice job. Our waitress comes over, is very pleasant and takes our order of wings, shrimp ceviche, and fries. We order a bottle of their premixed "mimosa" champagne. It was decent. Bottle done and still no food. Ordered another bottle and waitresses says "your food is coming very soon" and proceeds to offer us gratis shots for our already 40 minute foodless wait. Couple is seated by us and advised "no more food is being served." Meanwhile, we still have no food. By this time, we have been there 2 hours and were ready to go. We grabbed the waitress and had her cancel our order, which she did w/o any sort of issue or attitude. She was actually very apologetic and embarrassed. We spent almost 4 hrs there just enjoying the music and company but we were starving when we left. That's a deal breaker and we prob won't be back. This place is absolutely disorganized!!! The two young host girls at the front were absolutely DRUNK!!! They were both falling over and couldn't even walk! Neither of the girls could actually physical do their job from how wasted they were. One of the girls dropped water and cleaned up the water from the floor with the same rag that I saw her clean 2 other TABLES with! The rag was literally being used as a mop then later to clean tables and menus! Once the girl sat us down, I asked if she was okay or needed water. She said omgg it is noticeable that I'm drunk : she said sorry the bar keeps giving me shots. I was mind blown at the fact that she literally told on herself and has been in other words stealing from the establishment. Also ordered drinks cause I wanted to give the place a chance and got them in small plastic cups with dirty straws. Sorry but the workers here are rude, felt very unwelcome when we were brought up to fill up the empty roof top on a Friday night. Also what's the rule about not going down to use the bathroom??? So weird but as soon as we said we would just leave they allowed us to go down. Also had some guy tell us we would have to "get the fuck out" when someone wanted to buy the table for bottle service. Let me just start by saying I have it two stars for the vibe. The rest is trash... the flowers everywhere need a touch up. I ordered a Cesar salad, and got lettuce, Mozzarella cheese & ranch. No croutons and not tossed. Never have had chucks on chicken, usually it's a chicken breast sliced on top. My cheese was melting when it got delivered. Come on cielo, you make enough money to not cheap out on the cheese & miss my croutons. Just call it a garden salad. The fries from my friends chicken tenders had so much burnt oil on it. Kind of gross. Change your cheap oil more often... and with that, i would say I knew what I was coming for when the recent reviews are 3 out 5 stars, so it thought I'd be safe with a salad lol. Guess not. Got here at 2, was seated at 4. They try to sit us in the sun, absolutely not, I didn't go the beach.
