Manhattan. Probably one of the best I've ever had.
    Alexander C.

I cannot believe that we've lived here since September and have never been here before. Craving cocktails we ended up here thanks to Yelp. Not a single disappointment here. Amazing space, great service and of course perfectly crafted cocktails. Starting with the space. Gawd, wow! It has so much vibe and feel, blown away. Geez, even the bathrooms are cool! I enjoyed their Manhattan(s). Probably one of the best I've ever had. So delicate and nuanced though deliciously strong. The only negative was that their kitchen was closed. On a Saturday night this left me scratching my head. Menu sounds great, so here's hoping next time we visit.

Last night I met up with a friend at the Guild Bar for cocktails and conversation. It is a bit further out of the Gaslamp than I had expected. I was surprised to see that the hotel is in the old YMCA building. Years ago, when I worked downtown, I would go there to gym classes in the evenings. I love how they saved the integrity of the old historic building. The bar is really a lovely open space. There are booths, tables, and an area in the back where they had a wedding party that evening. As it is out of the main drag, it is not the most happening spot at night, but seems like a great bar if you happen to be staying at the hotel. I imagine it is a great spot for Happy Hour if you work in the area. The do have a small menu. I was tempted to try the deviled eggs, but wasn't really hungry, so I just had cocktails. I wanted to try one of their specialty cocktails, so had the Corporate Rebel, which was a twist on the Negroni. I later had a couple Side Cars, one of my favorite classic cocktails. They were well-made, tasty, and nicely presented. My only complaint was the wait for each cocktail. The bar wasn't crowded and sometimes it seemed to take forever to even order. When my friend asked about the wait, we did get a free shot of Lillet to tide us over. The bartender explained that it was the wedding party taking up most of the service. I would definitely come back for a nice space for friendly conversation over classic cocktails, and maybe try some of the food.

I've been to the Guild Bar located at the The Guild Hotel of San Diego a few times. Both times for coffee and not adult libations. One time I had a cafe au lait and the other a regular latte, although other coffee specialty drinks are available. They use a premium Intelligentsia Coffee product. The coffees I have had were both rich and smooth, and no doubt flavorful. They offer a happy hour which offers $5 drafts, $6 wells & wines, and house specialty drinks that run from $7 to $12. Happy Bar Bites area also available during this time. Happy Hours runs daily from 4 pm to 6 pm. The young gent and lady who served me on different days were super friendly. It's a great place to either start your evening before eating at Luca right next door, or end the evening with a night cap.

The Guild Bar is a great place to stop for a cocktail! Jake and Seth were our bartenders are they are very knowledgeable on different drinks and they even have "dealers choice" where they take your preference in spirit and flavor palette and make something creative. The outdoor patio has a very cute vibe. Will definitely be back!

Feeling blue? Blueberry, jalapeño, Tito's. Yum.

The musician created a fantastic ambiance that complemented the setting perfectly--engaging and entertaining without overwhelming the conversation. It added a special energy that made the experience feel memorable and unique. What made our visit even more enjoyable was meeting new friends and some visitors from out of town. Dorothy's has a warm, social atmosphere that naturally brings people together. Great wine, wonderful music, and new friendships made for an unforgettable afternoon. Dorothy's Wine Bar is a special place, and we can't wait to return. Highly recommended!

I made a reservation (just in case) because on a weekend you never know. Luckily, though, we arrived and there was plenty of available seating. My husband and I had our 10 and 5 year old with us and they easily accommodated us. It's a straightforward, but lovely menu that has a little bit for everyone. We enjoyed sharing a few plates and fresh oysters on the half shell. They do not have a kids menu, which was alright with us. Our daughter, who loves a good steak at 5 years old, enjoyed their pub steak and fries and shared a Mexican Coke with her brother. For my husband and I, we enjoyed sharing their beef tartare and to finish it off, a banana split. What we found so whimsical about Finca is their presentation. My husband and I really enjoyed exploring their menu and leaving room for a return visit soon. I couldn't recommend Finca more for anyone looking for a fun and casual dining experience with a lovely staff and unique take on traditional favorites.

This time around, it was just the 3 of us, to chat over some wine and apps. Had their April featured Pinot, which was amazing (had 2 glasses). It's good to keep in mind that they only sell their flatbreads on certain days and unfortunately, they didn't serve it when we went. So, instead we had the crostinis, which is perfect if you want a little bit of everything, but not sure what to get. My friend got the chicken Caesar wrap, and it was a lot bigger than expected. As far as the ambience, there's seating all around the bar that's located in the middle. So it's convenient to just walk up to the bar to place your order. Servers and bartenders were friendly and quick. Overall this is a great laid-back place for small or large groups.

First, I still really enjoy the Carruth Wine Garden. It is nice to have an outdoor space to drink wine right in the center of the city. In general there plenty of parking ,and it is dog friendly. As far as the wine, it is very good. I like some more than others. More recently, I have enjoyed the Unicorn Red Blend ( a longtime favorite) and the Syrah. I love that it is dog friendly, inside and out. My dog loves going there and she makes friends each time. A change that they made recently is that the main garden area is now child-free, which was a positive change in my options, as it had gotten a bit chaotic in the past with children not being very well supervised. The still have a family-friendly outdoor space. In the past, there was always live music when I came. I was there most recently on a Saturday evening and was disappointed that there was no music. Also, the prices have gone up ($18 per glass). Unfortunately, I found the pours to be somewhat inadequate, though it depended which staff member was pouring the wine. They do not allow for outside food, and only make certain dishes certain days of the week, which unfortunately doesn't allow for many options if you are hungry. Water is readily available inside and outside. All in all, it is a lovely place with good wine to come with friends and your 4-legged friends. It has gotten a bit pricey, and I do wish we could bring out own snacks, but I still enjoy going and am sure that I will be back.

So I turned around and stopped in. What I found was a quaint, tucked-away, almost inconspicuous spot delivering food and hospitality at a level that honestly borders on absurd for how unassuming it appears from the outside. The service was warm, polished, and intuitive without ever feeling pretentious. Hats off to both chefs, Christi and Mark for making me feel welcome. The wine pairings? Thoughtful, balanced, and exactly what you hope for from a restaurant that actually respects food. And then there's the burger. This thing reads like poetry: Ribeye and NY strip trim blend, cooked like a proper steak (medium rare, the only correct answer here), melted gouda, a soft house potato roll, all resting in a luxurious bordelaise sauce that would make a French chef nod in approval. Seriously. This is not a "burger joint burger." This is a chef-driven, butcher-minded expression of beef. Every bite tastes intentional. The bordelaise underneath ties the entire thing together with this deep, glossy richness that elevates it from comfort food into something bordering on fine dining. Places like this are why I still love discovering restaurants organically. No hype machine. No gimmicks. Just confidence, technique, restraint, and execution. This very unassuming little spot has Michelin written all over it.
