Buyer beware. Especially females. The big nearly bald guy is the worst to do business with. He wouldn't stop flirting with my friend. He introduced himself as Anthony Lay. The other guy looks like he sleeps in the woods. Very non professional looking. My friend was looking to buy a NEW guitar, but this Anthony Lay person kept trying to get her to buy some high priced USED guitar. We ended up going to Knox Guitar on Emory Road. At least we weren't verbally assaulted. I was telling someone else about our experience there, and got an entire back story on the Anthony guy. He's not one I want to do business with. read more

Sold me a crappy violin that doesn't hold a tune. I needed a back up for a festival. I couldn't fork up 500 for an instrument that was going to be outdoors. Guy behind the counter said he designed these and had them shipped in. Total BS. If I wasn't with my friend who had a small child - I would have taken the time to look over the instrument. Instead I trusted the scum behind the counter. I wouldn't even pay 80 for this on Amazon. Let alone 200+. The new owners are leeches. No longer the Ciderville we used to love. Do not trust these guys. I've been playing for 15 years. The only people I will trust now is Strings Workshop in Oak Ridge. That violin has held up through my middle school days - to my festival life - for only a few hundred more. Will never be back. First off, I will say that Jeff is a class act. No one knows their stuff quite like him, incredible demeanor, and truly happy to let you play every guitar in the store with no pressure to buy. On the other hand, whoever the other guy is there, is a total jerk, and is the reason I will never spend a cent at ciderville. High pressure sales tactics, no social graces whatsoever, and thinks his cheap Chinese knockoff Martin replicas are worth $2000. Laughable. Also, guys, learn something. When someone wants to come in and try out a $1300 Strat, do not make them try it on a solid state amp. No one spends over $1000 on an electric guitar to play it through a cheap fender champ amp. Plug up the tube amp, and serve your customers. I had $3800 bucks in my pocket walking into ciderville. The dude lounging behind the register's horrible attitude and the lack of knowledge was what drove me to spend my money at Lane Music. I hope this business stays alive, but old buddy behind the counter is going to need to take some social lessons from Jeff in order for that to happen. READ BEFORE YOU DO BUSINESS WITH THESE PEOPLE!! To start, most of the positive reviews for this location took place PRIOR to the new owners taking possession last year. I bought a guitar there in April 2023 that had a neck repair, I was ok with this as Steve (repair guy) assured me it was fixed properly. While I was there I also dropped off a Martin guitar for a minor repair and he took care of it quickly and was great to deal with...... AT FIRST. I pick up both guitars, pay the owner and leave. The guitar I purchased lasted 8 days before the head stock broke completely off. I took it to a local luthier and they confirmed that it's non repairable, Gibson repair also confirmed this and said it would require a new neck to be set (an $850 repair) and I had already spent nearly $2k with Ciderville. While there, I also let the other luthier look at the other guitar they repaired and they also confirmed it was not fixed as the inside supports were broken and hanging loose. I messaged Steve to let him know about the headstock breaking and he says he will fix it, to which I never responded and was going to let it go. I didn't even bring up the faulty repair on the Martin guitar. HOWEVER ..... a month later I randomly get a text message out of the blue from Steve Watts at 9 pm on a Sunday night essentially saying how horrible of a musician I am (he had creepishly stalked content on my social media pages) and more or less that he was better than me and "I WAS A JOKE". Keep in mind, I don't know this guy from Adam.... Only spoke to him twice in my life and he was very pleasant, or so I thought. I forwarded everything to the store owner Michael (Doug) Green, and despite him reading the messages, has never responded or even showed concern. I've already turned this information into my lawyer to take action in regards to the POS guitar they sold, so more money going out. But in other words, you need to avoid this place at all cost as they are sub par human beings. read more

Ciderville is a quirky music store nestled in a curve of Clinton Highway just past Powell. It is one of the few remaining relics of Knoxville's past, which makes it a must see even if you aren't a musician. It is the antithesis of Guitar Center, filled with pictures, portraits, and memorabilia of bluegrass musicians and Cas Walker. They have a nice selection of both new and used guitars, basses, and banjos. It isn't uncommon to come in and see some old timers sitting on old barber chairs playing in the guitar room. The staff is incredibly friendly and willing to cut you a deal if you really love an instrument, plus they offer music lessons. On Friday nights, they have live bluegrass shows that draw people from all over, as evidenced by the line of cars parked along Clinton Highway. Whether you're looking for that special instrument or just want a glimpse of Knoxville's scruffy past, Ciderville is a must see. read more

This is a fun, quirky store with an amazing selection, and with one staff member who was charming and informative and another who was...less so. I was about to talk my boyfriend into paying the listed price for a new Fender case, but he was feeling hesitant so I asked the owner if there was any wiggle room on the price. His response was so rude that we just left. Instead of just answering that the prices were already discounted and firm - which would have been fine - he was incredibly rude. While we were deciding if his answer was so rude that we would forget about the case, he doubled down and called across the store to us to make another rude comment. Not only would we have bought that case, we had as good as decided that our next guitar purchase would be from this store and that we were going to get our band to come here as well...but there's nothing like bad manners to get me out of the spending mood. read more

I have been a customer of theirs for years. I bought my first guitar there when I was in college, a nice cherry red Fender Squire. Turns out it was a Japan squier. Bummed out I had to sell it, but textbooks you know cost $$$! Since then I have bought mostly Fender equipment from them as their prices and service are unmatched in this area. They even match the best internet prices. I have bought a Fender 57 Classic deluxe amp, two blues jr amps and Epiphone Les Paul Standard (made in Korea). They are the friendliest and most helpful people. I hope they can keep going in the years to come!
