I am not exactly reflective of a typical student either - I'm in my mid 30s, where this school is clearly aimed at much younger students. Please don't be fooled though, it's not just for kids! If you've always wanted to learn an instrument, this is the place! If you're competent, but want to get better, guess what? They have you COVERED, my brother/sister of melting faces with godly rock. Let me tell you a little story, if you're entranced enough to absorb my words. When I started my tutelage at the Knoxville School of Rock, I was already fairly experienced - as I had been playing guitar, and playing it relatively well for 16 years, give or take a year. I have jammed with dozens of bands, recorded albums, played shows, and even zealously followed true masters of the instrument(guitar) like Buckethead, Richie Blackmore, Zakk Wylde, Joe Satriani, Steve Howe, and Yngwie Malmsteen. However, after all of my skill and experience, I managed to hit a wall. I was in a stylistic/creative and musical rut that I hadn't been able to break out of for years. Within a week or two, I was out of the rut, and I developed better abilities far faster than I had on my own while I was a student. That said, if you're into Nicki Minaj, or something similar, you'll be living your best life. Or whatever they say. If you dig Rush, Priest, and the Scorpions, you'll be living after midnight! Blues or jazz more your scene? You're all set. School of Rock paired me up with not one, but two highly competent teachers of a PERFECT skill level after talking with me on the phone for about ten minutes, if that. There is an unbelievable amount of skill and care taken in student placement, no matter your experience. As an aside for the parents who may be reading, the middle-school aged kids that had their own organized band practice sounded better than about 95% of the semi-professional bands that I have played in, so it's clear that the program works. Bottom line, if you're starting out, have kids, or have played live for years but want to get better, this is a company that cares, and they're worth the investment! Speaking of investment, the first lesson is free, so you know it's good stuff! :)

We brought a flute here that we had purchased second hand for our daughter, who is just starting…read moremiddle school band. They told us it needed over $100 in repairs to be playable, and it was not worth repairing, unless it had sentimental value. They suggested that we either buy a new one, or use their rental program. We then brought it to a friend of ours, who is the band director at a local high school, and a flute player. He said that it didn't need ANY repairs, was ready to go, and would be a great flute for a beginner to start out on. This place was CLEARLY just after our money, and took advantage of our lack of musical knowledge to try to do so. I would steer clear.

Unpleasantly surprised with how I was treated at rush's today. This place has gone from a "help…read morewith whatever you need" to "let me sell you stuff." I took in a violin today for restringing and tuning as I just got the thing and was told (after the associate turned his nose up at my violin) that its off brand quality was too poor for them to touch it. He could sell me the strings, he just wouldn't help his customer. My money is green. I will be taking my business to Music and Arts from now on. Is this a symptom of some sort of elitism or do you just pick and choose who you help now? Rush's is going the way of the dinosaur with these bad tactics.

This is one of the best-stocked music stores I've visited in quite some time. Instruments are well maintained, fairly priced, and span a wide range of styles and player needs. The store itself is clean, thoughtfully organized, and easy to navigate, which makes browsing enjoyable instead of overwhelming. Just as important, the staff is well trained, approachable, and knowledgeable without being pushy--exactly what musicians want when making serious gear decisions. The combination of strong inventory and competent staff inspires real confidence. Taken together, this location stands out as one of the better big-box guitar retail experiences, and very likely one of the best Guitar Center-style stores you'll encounter.

We had a very poor experience at Rush's trying to rent our son his first saxophone. The…read moresalesperson demanded that we provide our social security numbers. We told him we didn't feel comfortable as my identity had gotten stolen a few years ago and they got very defensive and rude. He claimed that they lose 200 instruments per year and that was their only recourse. They also said this is standard in the industry- which is a lie. We left. Lane Music took great care of us and we didn't have to worry about a thing. Oh yeah, Lane had a better selection, more competitive pricing, and far superior location/customer service.

He was very helpful and was willing to spend a lot of time with us explaining the pros and cons of each available piano without trying to move us towards any particular one. He made our options and our alternatives very clear leading to a confident decision on the piano we chose. All in all an excellent shopping experience and we were somewhat pleasantly surprised to have that piano delivered the same evening by two very skilled and helpful installers.
