I dropped by this store on my way through Knoxville, and I will not be back. When I came in, the owner didnt even say hello. When I left, same thing, no goodbye or come again. Sure he was busy, but your customers are your life blood. It just seems you would want to make sure to go out of your way for everyone that comes into your store to greet them and make them feel welcome. Also, it was a very cold day and the store was freezing. I guess it had just opened and he turned on the heat. However, if you turn off the heat at night, going cold to hot is not good for records or tapes. Just sayin. read more

Basement Records: Probably the best brick and mortar store in the Knoxville area. Easy address to locate. Not far from the freeway. Parking out front. Inside a very large assortment of quality used and new vinyl fairly priced in easy to search bins and racks. Proprietor is a nice fellow, who plays great music while browsing. I always depart with a bag full of VG to NM albums I've been seeking. The store even has a rewards program. Make 10 store visits with a purchase, get 10 dollars off your next purchase. My husband and I went there to try to get rid of some older records we had. The guy working there was very rude. We asked if he could come to our car because the box was very heavy. He just walked out the door, glanced at the box and said there was nothing he was interested in there. He didn't even look through the box!! Very nice and organized store. Even the bargain boxes are somehow categorized, so you know which ones to search on. Found a lot of nice albums, with prices of $10, $9, $6 and $2. I brought home around twenty 80's 12" maxi singles at $1each. Felt very comfortable while crate digging. The young guy there wasn't particularly friendly, but not rude either. It would be appreciated if customers could use the bathroom (had to take my 10 yr old son out and ask for a chance at a nearby matress store). I wish I visit Knoxville again, to buy more music from Basement Records. read more

I like what this place is now. For years, you might've known it as a shifty comic slash record store. Some new dude has bought it, and apparantly kept the name. There are still comics (i'm no the one to ask about that..no clue...i bought Barbie comics as a kid). He has a good, solid collection of records. No "rare" finds as in import, first edition, fan club version etc. But if you're like me and eliminating your CD collection in favor of digital and vinyl only, you WILL find some copies of classic sh*t you're looking for on vinyl. I've looked for a replacement copy of The Boss's Tunnel of Love for a year, and found an original copy here for $8. I also found a weird piano interpretation of Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet". There's plenty of a solid rock, metal, and a good quirky selection of jazz. If you want to get your Alice Cooper on or buy a vintage Motorhead pin, stop in and check it out. read more
