The absolute Worst service I have ever had, pre-food! Wife and I walk in and we're the only ones waiting, hostess on phone never acknowledged us, after 5 minutes she walks away to the pos at the other end of restaurant. Manager walked by us 3 times, never said a word, It was so weird! After almost 10 minutes the manager guy seats us. We then waited at our booth for another 10 minutes, never had a server or anybody come to our table to get us water and a drink, bread, nothing lol! We tend to visit a couple of the Main Street Venture restaurants regularly. It is always a good meal. I like Italian food. And I like lasagna. Though the lasagna at many restaurants is interchangeable. The Ciao's lasagna is different from the rest. As a twist there pie is more of a white lasagna. With zucchini. And it is really good. Maybe my favorite. Ciao's has lots of great food. We also like their appetizers. On Fridays appetizers are half off. Sometimes we make a meal of 2-3. Good deal. read more

We were there for their Valentines day special. The serve staff was great. The food ok. I was disappointed that they refused any substitution in spite of my shellfish allergy. I tried to be understanding since it was a package deal. What really disappointed me was that they allowed a couple in with handheld masks, like masquerade makes or a paper mask on a popsicle stick which was held about 6" away from their faces, a real farce against the mandate. My boyfriend and I LOVE Italian and made a night of heading to Ciao. We started in the bar area and enjoyed a few cocktails for their happy hour (5-6:30 on Fridays). For dinner-we ordered the Ravioli Fritti. I mean you can never go wrong with fried cheese but I loved the added touch with the pesto. For my meal it was a Parmesan fish with a real fancy name. It was AMAZING. It was in a lemon caper sauce that was literally the best thing ever. They also let me switch my side to spaghetti which was even better. We dined here yesterday for my birthday dinner. I'll give my feedback both as a diner and as a former restaurant and nightclub manager. Positives: Friendly staff, very good soup, good spumoni, nice atmosphere, free parking. Negatives: We waited 10 minutes before a server came to the table. The main courses (especially the chicken marsala) were decent and cooked properly, but underseasoned. Needs salt and basil. There is no veal on the menu! This is unheard of for an upscale Italian restaurant. The bus staff do not regularly refill waters and coffee as they should. The bread should be served with butter, not just olive oil. An extra bread plate should be placed on each table. One of the two plates was used to hold the olive oil, meaning we were left with only one bread plate for two people to hold the bread. The salads were tasty, but there was barely any dressing on them. The live music was much too loud, making dinner conversation nearly impossible. We made a birthday reservation, and the birthday was not acknowledged by the front desk upon arrival or the server (thought they did give a birthday discount when I reminded them it was my birthday and showed my ID). Even then, I was not wished happy birthday. The men's room urinals smell. The need to be filled with ice or with good deodorizing tablets. There are matters easily corrected if management is motivated to do so; this could easily become a four or five star restaurant with the noted changes. read more

It was early and few diners I explained that we came early fearing they would not be able to seat us later. He made a show of the effort finding a table for us. What a wonderful experience I had at Ciao last night with one of my coworkers. I am from Dallas and he is from Atlanta and we were both looking for a nice place to try for Italian food. I have been to Ciao before for a team dinner and we purposely ordered drinks, appetizers and large entree. The hostess was beyond kind and sat us right away and checked in on us regularly. She explained wine choses to us while our delightful waiter, Andy, finished up taking care of another table. I ordered a Gin martini extra dirty with freshly stuffed Blue Cheese Olives. For our appetizer, we ordered the calamari and this is the only reason I'm giving Ciao a 4 star instead of a 5 star. The calamari was not cooked for as long as I would like, causing the breading to fall off quite quickly. They also only provided one lemon on the plate which was not ripe enough to get enough juice and their calamari does not come with cocktail sauce. So if you are a cocktail sauce fan, I would not recommend ordering this dish. Lastly, we had Chicken Parmesan and the Butternut Squash ravioli in the gorgonzola cream sauce. Both were delicious and on the ravioli I substituted the shrimp (I don't eat shrimp) for blackened chicken and it was TO DIE FOR! The blackened chicken was the best I've ever had and I would recommend substituting this on any order you have. Also had a live singing duo in the bar which was a little loud but sang great songs. Celebrated my early birthday dinner with family at Ciao's last night. Ciao's has always been a family favorite for celebrations or a nice night out! Their chicken parmesan is perfectly breaded and tender with a good sauce to cheese ratio. Three out of four people in our party went with the chicken parmesan. You can't go wrong with their lobster ravioli too. Their house salad with blue cheese crumbles, house vinaigrette, and delicious housemate croutons is light and yummy. Their bread is always fresh with great crust and soft, warm center. Save room for dessert because their creme brulee is a must! I can't name a single other restaurant in town that matches its longevity, service, ambiance, and quality. The waitstaff is consistently friendly and knowledgeable on the dishes and specials. The food is great - far superior to Mancy's Italian. I agree that the salad is somewhat inconsistent from night to night but when it's done right, it's to die for. The bread is perfection. Veal Scallopino is always solid, pastas are good, and they're specials, while a bit pricier, are always done well. We always tend to opt for the special dessert and are never disappointed. The best part of Ciao is literally every time I go there with my family, we run into people we know. Yes, it's very country club of us but fun nonetheless. The food is good, the lasagna is the best I have had outside of Boston and the staff is beyond reproach, but there is something about this place that just doesn't feel right. The server seemed a little "off." I don't particularly care for overly-friendly waitstaff, but I also don't care for "Holy crap, this place makes me want to blow my brains out," either. Our server fell into the latter category. Maybe she had a bad day, I don't know...but when you start cramping my Sunday Funday, we got problems. I ordered the mixed grill. Eh. The sausage was solid. The chicken was meh, the lamb was alright...very small portion...and the one piece of shrimp they give you was flavored well, but overcooked. I keep striking out on ordering at restaurants for the first time. Not sure why. I thought trying the mixed grill would be a nice way to sample multiple dishes, but I would have preferred one great flavor opposed to 4 mediocre ones. My girlfriend ordered the pork tenderloins, which were really good. And the asiago mashed potatoes that accompanied both dishes were the highlight of the evening. I've visited Ciao on two occasions and both were great experiences. The restaurant was clean, service was quick, and server was nice. Calm, romantic and fancy atmosphere. I had a different wine each visit and both were great. The first visit I had a salmon dish with I think gnocchi beneath, that came with a wonderful sauce. Yesterday's visit I had a linguini dish with shrimp, mussels and squid that was delicious. The sauce brought together the different seafood flavors wonderfully. And it has officially happened...Mainstreet Ventures has ruined Ciao like they did Zia's. We have dined at Ciao numerous times over the past six years, and it was always a solid four plus stars, until today. I'm being generous with a two star rating this time. A kid's chicken fingers meal at McDonald's has more meat than the regular chicken Parmesan here. I had ordered the chicken parm and he ordered the veal parm. They both ended up being chicken parm. The kitchen obviously took a chicken breast and cut it in three- one piece for me, one for him, and one for the lady sitting at the table adjacent to us. The food wasn't hot either...it had been sitting for a while. We pointed the mistake out to our server, and she corrected it on the bill. There was absolutely NO management presence. A messed up order should be a red flag for a manager to visit the table. Nearly $70 without tip and it wasn't even worth $30. Very poor value. We were so incredibly disappointed. Clearly, we won't be back. It's time to cross this place off our list. I should also mention that there was some drama going on amongst the waitstaff and hostess. Pretty unprofessional. read more

I remember going here many years ago (1992 or before) when this was a Big Boy. It is one of the best Italian Restaurants in the Toledo area and (for the price) as good as in any major city. The first time I visited when it was Ciao was in 2002 with my friend after a cross country race. Service is always good and the food is always supurb. I don't like Italian food much. It gives me massive heartburn, it tends to be expensive around here, and it happens to be one of my wife's favorites. That means I have to get it once in a while. She expressed interest in eating here and I was against it. I thought for sure I would find nothing I liked, but in wanting to make her happy I agreed. I ordered the Insalata Tagliata, a salad loaded with greens, chicken, peppers, beans, gorgonzola, and sopressata (salami). In the meantime, my daughter ordered Insalata con Frutta alla Griglia, but hardly ate any of it, so I tore in. It was a salad that featured greens with goat cheese, crispy prosciutto, strawberry vinaigrette, and slices of seasonal fruit; It was one of the better salads I have ever eaten. I finished it all, and when my dinner salad showed up, it was really good too, but not the amazing flavors of the strawberry vinaigrette. Worst birthday dinner ever. The waiter was great. The food not so much. We had been coming here for years and just loved it. Moved away for a few years and came back to be thoroughly disappointed. First, the bread is not like it was. The Caeesar salad was very bitter, barely any green in it at all. The veal was very bland and the potatoes were disgusting. The manager came to the table with my drivers license and after describing our disappointment with the meal said she would pay for my tiramisu, which normally was included with my birthday dinner, plus the Caesar salad was a $4.95 up charge. My wife and I finally had the chance to try this place out! It is our anniversary and we just happened to pick this. The restaurant itself has a fancy rustic vibe with candle lighting. It was overall busy but everything was done in a timely manner. Salad was different, with little to no dressing and blue cheese crumbles. My wife ordered a mojito and they prepared it with mint from garden outside. I had the special (Blackened Mahi Mahi) and I substituted for risotto. It was expertly seasoned and prepared. My wife had the salmon ravioli and this was also very very good. We sampled two deserts (chocolate cake and Tiramisu) and these were excellent. The cake was thin with a pleasant mousse and dark raspberry drizzle. It was not cheap but well worth it. I have no doubt we will be back to sample more of the fantastic menu. The restaurant offers a nice discount on the day of a birthday (but don't expect a complimentary dessert! Haha!). I ordered the seared scallops & they were excellent - perfectly seared & seasoned, with asparagus as my side accompaniment. The atmosphere was that of a fine dining establishment- more upscale than I recalled from the past. I definitely recommend it, though it's pricey without the birthday discount.
