This place is just OK. Flavor was lacking from a lot of their food. To start..We were served with bread that had Parmesan and a lot of garlic. Yum! We ordered the antipasti Freddi and caprese for appetizers and I would get those again. My fiance ordered the veal scaloppine and he said his veal was over cooked. I tried his broccolini and potatoes and they needed some flavor. I ordered the Verdura pizza, added chicken and ricotta... bland. The sauce tasted like straight tomato sauce.. no seasoning or anything. Overall, the food was ok. Just BLAND. Probably won't be back. read more

We had a party of 5, 3 meals were brought out to us correctly, one was a wrong order, one apparently did not get ordered at all. Three of us finished our meals, one arrived about 5 + minutes later, last order didn't come to the table until everyone else had finished. The servers were flustered and so were we. What was upsetting was that we were not compensated for anything. We ordered a couple desserts, hoping that at least they would have been free, but we were wrong. I'm traveling from Texas and trying out different foods in and around downtown Billings. My waitress was super nice and friendly which is always a plus. I ordered the Penne alla vodka with a side of broccolini. The pasta was good but only good. I actually make my own homemade penne alla vodka, so i compare it to mine. Not bad at all though! The broccolini however was a little undercooked. Just a tad. Also a little cold. I still ate it all nevertheless. They also give you a basket of bread which i demolished. The environment was loud and busy which i enjoy personally. I would recommend making reservations because they are extremely busy. I had to wait almost a hour for a table for 1. It is hard to write this review because it makes me hungry. We arrived with my parents who are both using walkers and they were able to seat us after a short wait. They were helpful managing my parents get up a couple of stairs to their seats. The food was delicious. We tried several dished and ever one of them were delicious. I ordered spaghetti and meatballs which I never do because I make it at home. This was different. The meatballs were amazing. I will be dreaming of them until we come back. What a wonderful find right in downtown Billings! Per doctor's orders we are gluten free and had a hankering for pasta on our way through town. Thankful that we found Ciao Mambo on our search. They had a quality GF menu that included substitute GF penne pasta for many of their regular dishes. My wife and I both had a baked penne pasta dish with ricotta and Parmesan! Oh, it was sooo good. Big portions left us feeling comfortably full for the night without needing dessert. Other items on their regular menu were the traditional Italian fare one would expect; and looking at the plates of the people around us, they all looked great! Highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion. It's casual enough to go like we did (traveling through town and there on a stop-over in jeans and t-shirt) or for a romantic dinner out with that someone special! read more

Ate here recently with some family while visiting Billings. The food was amazing. Our party of 4 all ordered a different entree, and we all thought our food was great. They have a nice wine list, as well, with wine from my favorite region in Piedmont. If I lived in Billings this would be my favorite restaurant. If I could give 0 stars I would. Absolutely appalling the way they handle reservations. I booked what I thought was a private room after many, many phone calls with the staff members only to walk in and be sat right by the front door with a "private party". I was promised a private area for my limited party and the restaurant double booked their back room and tried to play it off as if they didn't double book. I would absolutely never recommend planning anything with this facility as they will not accept accountability for their mistake in not accommodating for the reservation I was promised. It is extremely disappointing the way the "manager" who was not even in attendance has handled this situation. Save your time and money and book elsewhere for literally anything!!!! Will never be returning to ciao mambo in billings as long as this current staff will be working. read more

Seriously, I've eaten Italian food all over the West (not NY). Food here is off the hook good. This place is one of the best Italian restaurants in the West. Put this place in LA on a weekend and you'd have a line out the door. Amazing food made with love. I ordered the house salad and lasagna. So rich, piping hot, amazingly delicious, comfort food. Everything coming out of the kitchen looked heavenly. I'll come here again and again when I find myself in Billings. Owner is super cool and a kind man. Attentive service as well. The interior of this restaurant is very nice. It has a great atmosphere. The service was very good. Our server, Amber, was excellent. The menu is extensive with a great variety of authentic sounding offerings. I had linguini alle Vongole in a white sauce which I honestly enjoyed. Delicious and an ample serving. My wife who is 100% Italian had the lasagna and was dissapointed. The red sauce was distinctly over salted and the top of the lasagna was burned to a blackened crisp. Unacceptable. The size of the portion was more than adequate and the components of the lasagna were fine. I'm not sure of all the other offerings but if that is the signature red sauce offered and used for the rest of the menu that's a problem. Too salty. We will definitely return because it has a great looking menu but if the sauce continues to be that salty we won't return. Red sauce is a key ingredient for Italian food and should never be overwhelmingly salty. The wine offerings are extensive and we had a great super Tuscan. Delicious wine. We did take out but the service was good. We had some ordering confusion and they were very helpful. Hot food was cold, cold food was warm. We ordered for pick up at 7pm but the food looked and tasted like they made it at 530. We love the Ciao Mambo in Whitefish so that's why we ordered from the Billings location. $23 salad made from a small handful of lettuce I would have thrown out of it was in my fridge. It was supposed to have all kinds of meats and veggies on it but only had some of it and not very much. Pizza was cold and the crust was hard and tasteless. Nachos were beyond disappointing. Not what we are used to. We ordered what we normally get at the whitefish location because we wanted to be sure of a good meal. It was so expensive and so not worth it. read more

Typical Italian fare and ambiance. They play up the wine theme pretty heavily. The art is pretty cool and they are proud of it- there are notices about finding out about the art so I'm assuming a local artist painted them. The wait time was rough. Rough. Like 10 minutes for drinks then another 15 for food. Luckily they brought us free bread or my stomach would have started eating itself. The eggplant parm was delicious. Worth the wait. The eggplant was cooked well- not too soggy. Wine prices are a little steep. They definitely take advantage of people celebrating special occasions here. The server was very nice but over-shared about her work situation-having large parties and being overwhelmed. I was a server all through college so I get it-but I knew that my tables didn't really care how overwhelmed I was. Maybe some people do? I was sitting in a location that could see plates under the heat lamps and there were two sitting there for a very long time. They were ours. Really wish the disinterested kid who was making pizzas and salads right in front of me didn't keep throwing empty pans into the bin next to him. And he was constantly griping about his job. If you want to put your staff on a "stage" right in front of customers then maybe train them to be professional and a good representative of your restaurant. Otherwise, move him to the back of the house. Other than that, it was good, not great. LOTS of garlic in everything we ate. Like chunks of it floating in sauce, on top and pasta, etc. Let the food speak for itself, no need to bury everything in garlic. I ate around the chunks and liked what I ate. read more

We came for the Manicotti, but they had none, even though it's on the menu, so I got ravioli. My poor husband ordered the clam linguini and it had only 3-4 clams. The other thing it had, after he ate several bites, was some creepy, spongy items that have nothing to do with linguini or clams. I glanced at it and thought it looked sort of like bread crusts (table scraps?). He wouldn't let me complain, he hates a fuss in public, so we paid and left, never to return. Our server, Derrick, was THE best!! His energy set the mood for our experience. He was so very cool and we were lucky to be seated in his section. This was recommended to us by a local. We liked the idea of it being from scratch. The only feedback I would give is there is a ton of garlic in everything. I'm a garlic lover but it overwhelmed our dishes. Large thick slices throughout our sauce. Also the baked pasta bolognaise dish could have had more noodles. I would come back and give it another shot, but hopefully they can cut back on the garlic or at least warn customers that it has a very very strong presence in their dishes. read more
