I will say that the owner really did a beautiful job with the remodel as I have walked past this place when it was a different business. The decor is fresh, modern, and the colors make the place pop. I came in with a friend and she had eaten at this establishment before and raved about the food and music. I had gotten their first and the hostess greeted me and sat me at the table. The server got me two waters for my friend and I and when my friend entered, we ordered two drinks. I had the Grand Marnier with passion fruit and she had the blue Long Island, but she returned it because it was too strong and had the chwa margarita instead. When we were ready to order, we flagged the server and asked about another appetizer that was on the menu because I had noticed that the staff was tasting something that was not described in the menu at the bar. She said they had ackra. I ordered that and my friend ordered the conch. When we got the order, the ackra was fried perfectly and was well seasoned. The picliz that it had on the side was flavorful and the spice was a slow burn. It was the right amount of spice for me. Once we had finished our appetizers and drinks we had to flag the server once again for new drinks and our entrees. We ordered pina coladas, a griot meal, and a grilled salmon meal. Due to the smokiness coming from the kitchen, we had to move our seats. When we got our meals, I went straight for the griot and it did not disappoint. The pork was tender and very well seasoned and the black rice was to die for. It was cooked to perfection and properly seasoned as well. The pressed plantain was good, but it needed salt on top, but the pikliz was its savior. After finishing our meals, we waited over 25 minutes for our check. What I observed was the server constantly on her phone and we had to flag her down numerous times to place our food and drink order. When we moved, she never came to check on us or ask if we needed anything else. We had to flag the hostess and another woman to assist us in getting the bill. When we received the bill, we notice that the conch was $30 for just a few pieces and there was a 25% service charge, which was the gratuity already included in the bill. Overall, the food was excellent and I cannot complain about that, but I was unhappy with the service we received and having to get a 25% service charge when we were flagging down our server and other people had to assist us. The reason this place did not receive three stars is because other staff members helped us and the food was good. This place is good for date night, family friendly, or any type of event; but I truly recommend that the owner tighten up on staff regarding what service needs to look like and redo the menu to include pricing and any new food that is supposed to be on the menu. read more

We first arrived and was greeted 10 mins after. We are finally seated and the waitress I guess had a big party( I understand that) but it took her LITERALLY 30 mins to take our order , I mean Atleast take our drink orders nada. (Mind you the dj was apparently late so it was no music) so we are just sitting there. Finally the waitress took our orders by that time we decided to just order our drinks and food. FIRST & LAST TIME VISITING! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I was invited to my friends bday dinner on a Thursday night. When I arrived, some of her guests were already there & some ordered appetizers. The waiter Francesca came & took the couples order next to me, which he asked her if she preferred the grilled or fried conch, & she replied both. After they placed their order, she left but came back to take mine. I ordered the "conch and griot." When the food came out, I noticed the others received appetizers & mines came out as a full meal! I immediately stated that I did not want meals & wanted appetizers like everyone else. She stated I did not say "appetizer," so she "assumed" I wanted the meals. Why would a person arrive at a restaurant & order 2 meals for themselves when everyone is ordering appetizers? Especially when the sides are exactly the same! I explained to her I couldn't eat all this, nor did I plan to & wanted to sides returned and only wanted the conch and griot alone. She said there was no manager on site & that she didn't have access to cancel the order. She left to get the drinks. While she was gone, my friend at the table said the waiter she had to speak to a manager when she ordered so there was a manager. When Francesca returned, I told her I was told a manager was needed earlier & wanted the manager. Francesca said the manager had left & was not coming until 9:30 or later. She refused to call the manager, & when I said to just take the food back, she said she would have to call the cops for not paying for the food. She also proceeded to tell me the everyone had said the words "appetizer" which the other guests said, "they did not" & even the couple that order before me took up for me & told her she was being rude & acting like it was my fault for her mistake. I ended up calling the restaurant while sitting there a few minutes after the waiter walked away. The manager Maritsa answered & said she was onsite. I explained the situation, & she agreed & mentioned how she had been hired to fix the customer service & would only charge me for the 2 appetizers. She also left the sides for me to keep & provide a free drink. I never wanted the sides & only sampled them, letting the people at the table enjoy as they pleased. Maritsa later brought me a bill in which she charged me for 1 appetizer and 1 conch entree. NOT HONORING what she agreed to, which was only charging me for the 2 appetizers & even charged me gratuity. After I told the manager, I was called sweetheart in a condescending tone & advised the police would be called on me for refusing to pay for meals I did not order. In order to not make a scene as the birthday person was at the table & more people arrived. I simply paid the bill & did not wish to escalate further! The food was good, but there was nothing I needed to go back for. I feel that at the end of the day, the waiter did not have any accountability for her mistake, and the manager decided to make me responsible for part of that mistake. The area was busy, & the restaurant was empty outside of our table of 20. So it was not like she could have forgotten what she promised. I have been here several times and the service is always slow and just unorganized. Does not matter if the place is full of patrons or empty. Our waitress was inattentive and just nonchalant. She rarely came back to the table to check on us and then would walk away really fast when she did come back. No time to place any orders. Since my last review i came back for brunch. I would also like to add I had wanted to come in the evening for dinner but no one picks up the phone! And I didn't want to drive all that way for no reason. I called literally over 10x! But I tried my luck driving to them for brunch. Of course it's busy and the host tells me there's no available seating. He asks if I had reservations but the first time I came I asked about reservations and was told they don't take reservations! I then find out that I can text their number for reservations. That would be nice to know if it was advertised. So I don t have a problem that it's full..it's a small place. And it was around 3 pm. The problem is the host just tells incoming people there's nothing available and that's it. I had to prob to ask if there's a wait list..how long do you think the wait is...do you need my name and phone number...come on these are things you should know to do. It's like he was reluctant to even take my name AFTER I requested to just be put on the list. He gives off the vibe that he rather people just leave after he lets them know nothing is available. I get an 1-2 hour "estimated" wait. We drove a distance to get there and it was hell to find parking so we agreed to wait. It's around 4 pm and the host tells me there's still nothing available and that the kitchen closes at 4:30 pm. They reopen at 6 pm for dinner. Now I am upset. I let him know he should have disclosed this information when he told us about the wait time. Had we known we prob would have left. He addressed the GM, Lou. Suddenly they seat us at a table who's been open for awhile. We are told it's typically for 2 people but due to the circumstances we could make it work for 4 if we agreed. Also if anyone leaves we are free to move since it's the end of brunch. Also, we are told the kitchen will take our orders as a courtesy. Unfortunately it took forever to get a server. We kept having to flag people to ask what is going on. No greeting, no water, nothing. Since the GM sat us and he was the one who shared the kitchen would wait he should have taken our order and passed it on to a server but we finally are greeted. We asked to do the mimosas before brunch ended and put our orders in. Again long wait for the mimosas. Having to flag people down to the point we had to ask if they would honor our refill due to the time. By the time our food finally comes out (don't know why it took that long ) we get 2 take out containers of food. There's 4 of us, we're told the kitchen ran out of waffle mix since it's end of brunch. Keep in mind we asked for red velvet and didn't even get that. We told them never mind. We don't want it. It was 30 min until dinner so we decided to just wait until the kitchen reopens. That's how long we were there!! 6 pm comes and we're told the kitchen isn't open yet and to stay tuned ! Just ridiculous. I think it opened around 6 :30 pm. Don't get me wrong the food was delicious but whole experience was frustrating, we got Mimi, the owner and chef to come out to thank her for the food, wings were hot, crispy, sweet chili sauce on point. The dipping sauce for the fries were amazing. Griot seasoned and rice was on point. Our server (think Maggie)was overwhelmed from brunch but once that was over she was able to give us her attention.
