Hands down the best Haitian food I've had in Broward County. This food tastes like someone's ancestors put their whole foot in it. I had the stewed goat an my husband had griot. We both never had Haitian food where every piece of meat was tender. Portion size was decent. We had a small portion to take home. Service was good. They include 18% gratuity on all dine in orders. I visited Greg's CookOut and was seated quickly in a spacious booth, which made for a comfortable start. The Haitian music was loud and energetic, giving the restaurant a lively, authentic vibe. My waitress was friendly at first, and I ordered the meatballs, black rice, mac n cheese, and plantains. The food was excellent -- full of Caribbean flavor and spice. They provided piklis, but the meal already had plenty of heat. I also ordered a lychee martini that was really good, although I requested extra lychees and never received them. Service became an issue as the meal went on. My waitress took a long time to return and never checked back in; I eventually had to flag someone down just to pay. I was also given a dirty fork with visible crusted food on it. I told my waitress and asked for plastic utensils instead. When the bill came, I noticed a charge for the plastic utensils. I explained again that the original fork was dirty, and she told me it didn't matter -- that's just their charge. I even tried to show her the fork, and she still insisted it didn't matter. I asked for a manager, who looked at the fork, confirmed it was dirty, and removed the charge. It feels unreasonable for a restaurant of this caliber to charge a customer for requesting clean utensils, especially when the ones provided were dirty in the first place. I've been to Greg's Cookout a few times at the Hallandale Beach Blvd location. The ambiance is casual, the staff is friendly, and the service is great. I've ordered sweet habanero wings, mac and cheese gratin, and djon djon rice. One thing about many Haitian restaurants is they can be hit or miss--flavors vary from visit to visit. This was my first time trying Haitian food. I came with my Haitian friend and it did not disappoint. Seriously. We got the fish, legumes, stew. I personally had the legumes and I was truly blown away. Didn't realize legumes (with the beef stew) could be so delicious! My friends and I kept raving about the food throughout the meal and after. One note is, service is pretty prompt, but food took a while to come out, probably over an hour for 3 people (and there was only another table getting served; granted, the restaurant had just opened). The service was great with the server being very helpful and flashing a beautiful smile. She helped me decided what to drink and it did not disappoint. The island breeze was refreshing and delicious. Their legume with beef and rice is rich, hearty, and incredibly flavorful easily one of the best I've had. The fried fish and shrimp are super fresh, perfectly seasoned, and fried to golden perfection. I also have to rave about the macaroni and cheese creamy, cheesy, and honestly fantastic. One thing to note the food comes out hot and fresh, which means you may wait around 20 minutes for your plate, but trust me... it's 100% worth it. I had NO IDEA that this business was located near Hallandale, since my only visit at their Miami branch behind Jackson Hospital. When I went overthere, they were very professional to me. Maaaannnn... the FOOD was incredible! I'll be honest, the name threw me off & I didn't know what to expect walking into Greg's Cookout. But wow, I was completely blown away. 11/10, no question. The vibes were on point, great music, great ambiance, just an all around good energy. They don't do traditional shots, but their wine-infused cocktails definitely make up for it. They're unique, strong, and you'll feel them after a couple (in the best way). This place seriously deserves way more recognition. And shoutout to our waitress, Lamanda! Food here is really good. They get no complaints from me about the food. I ordered the Tasso Turkey complete. And probably the juiciest fried turkey I've had in a while. Even the fried plantains were so light and airy on the inside. The wife enjoyed her stew chicken. The food here is flavorful and spicy but not too spicy. The ambience here was a kinda dark, chill, date night vibes. (We came at night). This place definitely would've been a 5* but where it fell off was the service. And not that it was bad cause it wasn't. It's just they definitely need more help there. The night we came there was only two ladies serving. Excellent Haitian Caribbean Food, The service was better than any Caribbean restaurant I have been to. The waitress was very pleasant. Even though she was the only waitres waiting on about 5-6 tables. She was very attentive. The food came out hot, fresh, and ready! The flavors are authentic! I had the Turkey Tassot Simple and the Griot Complete with Djon Djon, fried plantain, and pikliz. We also ordered a side of Mac and Cheese. The Mac and Cheese was creamy and savory. They add green and red peppers which gives it a nice flavor. It compliments the Entrees very well. I did not try the fresh juices but I heard they were good. Okay! I have been wanting to visit this location for so long as the reviews I've heard are amazing, spoiler alert - they were not wrong! My friend and I walked in around 6:00pm and it took approximately a minute for someone to greet us. This didn't bother us too much as we were taking in the atmosphere and were just happy to be there, LOL. We were seated at a booth, however ended up opting to sit at the bar because the booth chairs are low. The bar was clean and comfortable so that was a plus. Service at the bar and overall the entire restaurant seemed slow. Our waitress let us know that the food would take about 35 minutes so she took that first and then went onto the drinks and hookah. We appreciated the heads up. For food, I got the Tasso Kabrit (Fried Goat) - Complete) which comes with your choice of right and plantains- I opted for black rice. My friend got the grilled shrimp with black rice. We both got a side of Macaroni as well. All of these were so good! In all honesty, the shrimp was probably the best shrimp i've had in a long time. The goat was also so good and flavorful. Everything was actually perfect. They are not a full bar so be mindful however they have 3 specialty cocktails and we got the Darker the berry and very mellow, both of these were so good! Not too strong, and tasted like they were made with the real ingredients. The reason for the low rating, despite great food and ambiance is because of the subtle hygiene. I dropped my mac and cheese and our server got Me a new one (I was extremely grateful) However, once the I got home, my mac had a red long hair baked inside- my hair is blonde. This just put a damper on the entire experience I also witnessed one of the ladies lick Her hands and touch a cup and one of the other ladies were touching dirty glasses and then proceeded to make patrons drinks. My co-worker told me about how good this restaurant is so my husband and I went to Greg's Cookout when I got off work Sunday afternoon for dinner. I'm very intentional about supporting Black owned restaurants because if don't, who will? When we walked in, it took a while for anyone to greet us. Finally one of the servers acknowledged us. Eventually she told us " you all can sit at the last table and I'll be there" That's not the best customer service but they were a little busy so we make a big deal about it and made our way to the back. We decided to sit at a booth instead so we could sit next to each other instead of across from each other (we're still newlyweds ) When another server arrived, a very, very skinny light skinned young lady, we asked if she'd bring something to wipe down the table. Her response was, "is this the table she told you to sit at"? Surprised, we told her that this is the table we chose to sit at. With a disgusting attitude she said, "well y'all need to get up so I can wipe the table". Needless to say I told her that her attitude was rude and not at all professional. She chose to clap back telling us we could talk to the manager. After speaking to the manager, Wilda, she was apologetic, professional and convinced us to stay. The food was delicious. Wilda's service was great, so the overall experience wasn't all bad. I just really hope that she spoke with her staff about customer service because I don't care how good the food is, poor customer service will put you out of business in this economy. People spend their hard earned money, not just for the food but for the overall experience. And now with several other Black owned restaurants open, we don't have to come here. Thanks to Wilda, we'll be back and will be sure to ask for her, but I can't give Greg more than three stars. read more

The waiter was attentive and polite as well. Only con is we were told they don't serve shots and we had to order drinks from their drink menu we weren't able to customize our drinks. Other than that the drinks we did order were strong and the food was sooo yummy and delicious! I live in Palm beach and drive to Hallandale for their food that's how good it is! I did my order at 11:03 am and it was ready by 12:15 pm. The wait for the food was not long once I arrived for pick up. Since the order was around opening time there was no one but staff present. The young lady who was at the bar (didn't catch her name) was nice and helpful. My food came out pipping hot! Presentation was great. I do wish they gave more shrimp for the creole shrimp order but hey. I had like 3 and a half shrimps for my rice and fried plantain. I also ordered Tasso turkey and it was delicious. I ordered for my family 2 chicken in sauce complete with beans and rice, and 1 griot complete with djon-djon. First off the chicken and sauce was delicious, the djon-djon was good but a bit dry and so was the beans and rice. The griot had no and I mean no seasoning at all. I was so disappointed. Greg's Cookout has been one of my go-to Haitian restaurants in Florida. But I'm heartbroken and disappointed to say that I will no longer be supporting this restaurant. Over the last several visits--four times, to be exact--I've come early in the day, only to be told that my favorite dish legume (Haitian veggie stew) was already sold out. That alone seemed off. But the last incident was especially troubling. I called around 2 PM to place an order and was told they did have legume. However, once I gave my name and number, the woman on the phone paused and made a comment as if she recognized me. Suddenly, she claimed they had ran out. My boyfriend, who overheard the conversation, felt something was off. He called back just ten minutes later using his own name and was told they still had legume available. This made me question whether I was being deliberately excluded. I never expected to associate this place with discriminatory practices, but the pattern and that specific interaction left a sour taste I can't ignore. Good food is never an excuse for bad treatment. Sadly, no matter how delicious the plate, I can't support a business that makes me feel unwelcome. read more

This restaurant opened just a few months ago. I decided to check it out. The ambiance is relaxed with a Caribbean vibe. I ordered the fried chicken dinner which came with rice and peas and plantains. The chicken was flavored well. Crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The plantains had a nice crisp but still tender on the inside. Our waitress was very attentive and provided great service.the only downside was no alcohol being served and the passionfruit juice was very very sweet. A little too sweet for me. I'm Haitian-American so I'm very familiar with Haitian food. I visited Greg's Cookout for the first time yesterday and the food was amazing. It might've been the best Haitian food that I've ever had. The griot bites were tender and had a light coating of this delicious sauce. The fried fish was fresh and seasoned. The rice and beans were cooked perfectly. The fried plantains were airy and crispy. Christine, our server, was so sweet and attentive from beginning to end. The restaurant is small and decorated simply. The music was also great - they played a mix of different Haitian songs. My only 2 points of criticism were the price of the drinks and my check. I ordered a small cocktail mix and it was $20. Although, it was made decently, I've had much better cocktails for much less. They also add a 3% processing fee if you pay the check with your credit card, which I thought was, for lack of a better word, tacky. Five star experience! One of the best haitian restaurants I've had in such a long time. I remember Chef Greg's old restaurant in Boca Raton and I am so glad he's set up shop in Miami! The service is immaculate and the food turn around time is typically 10-15 minutes or less. Truly a gem I have already ordered a plethora of times. My parents shared the Fried Snapper, which was fresh, with a light crisp and perfect with the stew sauce on the side. The Plantains are freshly fried along with a flavorful rice of your choice being either Djon Djon Black Rice or regular Rice and Beans. Second, I ordered the Fried Goat or Kabrit, and it was moist, flavorful and not too greasy! I loved it and have ordered it 3 times since then with a side of Macaroni, and Djon Djon Rice. Truly amazing. The stew goat, stew turkey and mango habanero chicken wings are also so tender, flavorful and truly worth the drive. Always grab a side of macaroni! You will never regret it.
