Chuy's is a restaurant we visited often while living in Austin, where it originated. Now that it has come to Raleigh, we finally have a terrific true Tex-Mex Restaurant in town. When you arrive, you're greeted with eclectic decorations such as a tribute to "The King" Elvis Presley and Hub Caps on the ceiling. The wait staff here is awesome. You're served up complimentary Chip/Salsa. You will also love the regular Margaritas. And the Tortillas are made fresh at the restaurant. Our favorite dish is the Chuy's Special that comes with the Blue Tortilla. Chuy's of Raleigh will be one that we will enjoy again for years to come. read more

Chuy's was recommended to my friend for their good food and great margaritas and I have to agree! Their margaritas were so smooth, it was definitely a nice change from the cheap, sour mix margaritas you get from other mexican restaurants. They have a lot of indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating was nice and there was a cover so we weren't sitting out in the sun the whole time. Plus it overlooks a nice area where they apparently do some beachy music concerts--definitely something I will keep in mind for this summer! I ordered the chicken flautas and it was good, nothing too special BUT my friend ordered the chika chika boom boom and I will definitely be trying that next time! My friends practically licked the plate and said it was delicious, plus the boom boom sauce is one of their best! Parking was easy to find and the service was excellent! Only thing to note was that their prices aren't exactly as cheap as other mexican restaurants but I think the quality of the food and drinks make up for that. So we come to the infamous chuy's. i have known about it for awhile but never got around to trying this place out. to be perfectly honest we actually came to chuy's on a whim, we had another spot in mind but they were super packed so we went with chuy's. we walked and there was a few people eating in but not many which was fine with me. lol we were greeted and seated and then given menus. i will say the decor is definitely kinda" gimmicky " but fun to look at all the same with bright colors and plastic palm trees i think you get my point. but moving on after giving the menu the old once over i decided the chicken fajitas would do the trick. now the menu was your standard tex-mex fair and most dishes are served with fresh tortillas that are made in house right in front of you which is always a plus. Our hostess was nice and reasonably fast our food came out in no time at all. as i said i got the chicken fajita and my girlfriend got the "chuy-chunga". and please forgive me for not remembering what was in it , im not really a chuy- changa kinda guy but i know it came with bean and rice. lol we finally start to dig in and the food itself was good, i wouldn't write home about it.....so to speak..lol but i was fairly satisfied. i will say that the spiciness of the food did kind of overshadow the actual flavor of the dish to which my girlfriend agreed but other then that it was pretty good....just make sure you like spicy food! I am going to bump my review back up- the really is our go-to Tex-Mex place. I like Salt and Lime and other places better but when I am with the kids this is where they want to go. There is something on the menu for the whole family and the kids menu is good and comes with a push-pop. Chips are tasty and I love the ranch-like dip. Service is back to good, too. read more

I was on a weekend trip and tried this Mexican restaurant. It was nothing like I expected. This restaurant had authentic Mexican food with delicious flavor. I had a chicken fajita and the tortilla was warm and soft. The food was seasoned perfectly. The drinks were great ! I had a margarita and it was strong. We were a group of 13 and the waitress was super attentive and even split our check with little to no assistance. She remembered our orders and asked if we were okay often. Pleasantly surprised by this place. It's not authentic Mexican by any means, but you can get yourself a great meal and a nice drink for a reasonable price. The creamy jalapeño dip is fantastic, as is their queso - make sure to hit the "nacho car" and get it for free M-F from 4-7 pm. In fact, I think I could be happily satisfied just off the free chips and dip as I wait, but that is besides the point. They have a variety of different drink/food specials for each day of the week so make sure to check the website. The Thursday special stuffed avocado is definitely calling my name. I had the fish tacos and they were pretty good! I would only add avocado, but then again I would add avocado to anything. Food was decent. Service was friendly. We went early so got seated quick. There's a random salsa/nacho bar in the trunk of a car where you can load up and fill up before your meal on which was good. My only complaint, was that it was a nightmare in there after 6. Tons of kids everywhere and mega loud. Great place if chaotic kid environments are your thing but if you're heading out with a few coworkers for a quick delicious bite, maybe go elsewhere. Chuy's will do the fix if you're craving Mexican food. The restaurant is large and festive with plenty of seating. In the summer they have outdoor seating as well and usually a live band. At nights I believe they have a chip and queso bar. They also bring chips and salsa to the table as soon as you sit down which is very much appreciated! The chips are tasty and the salsa is good, but sometimes a little too watery for my liking. You MUST come here on Thursday's. I went today with coworkers for lunch and we only choose to go on a Thursday because this is the only day they serve the fried avocado special. This dish is delicious and definitely a must have! It can be a bit spicy with the chili salsa and the green chili rice, so if you don't like spicy at all feel free to ask for the dish with no spice and they will do it for you with no problems! The avocado is stuffed with chicken and then fried on the outside and it is delicious. The avocado is creamy and the crunch from the breading on the outside is the perfect combination. The beans and rice are delicious too and it also comes with some tomato salsa. The spices aren't too overbearing, but it definitely has a good kick to it. One of the tastiest and unique Mexican dishes I've had. Highly recommend! Today the service was okay but was definitely made up for with great customer service. 5 meals came out on time, but my one coworker did not receive her meal with the others, even though it was just chicken tacos which are so quick to make. A manager came over to our table when he saw it had been a good while still that her meal didn't come out. He came over to our table, ensured her meal would be out in a minute, and did not make her pay anything for the meal. Chuys is a chain, tex-mex restaurant that opened up 9 weeks ago near north hills in Raleigh. Being kind of a food snob, I usually try to avoid chains and try to find the hole in the wall, or locally owned establishment. I'm glad I opened up my mins, though, because this experience was pretty good! I was put off, as was my company, by the odd schizophrenic nature of the restaurant. Tex-Mex is already a fusion. Adding a 1950's theme room and 80's top 40 playing on the radio made it a bit overwhelming. I would return, and eat the same meal, but I would try to sit at the bar, away from all of the velvet pictures of cars. read more

So....I am not some "Mexican cuisine" expert. So my review is just based on it being tasty....not wether it's authentic. so....it was yummy to us! I read multiple reviews AFTER we got here, for ideas on what to order. The menu is long and a bit overwhelming (but to me, that is like most "Mexican" restaurants). I ordered the special of chicken taquitos. They were GREAT. The refried beans and rice were ok. But the actual taquitos were so good. Light, crispy, hot and chicken was sooo moist. These aren't like taquitos you see in store...those itty bitty corn tortilla roll ups. Much better (see photo). Mom got nachos. She didn't want something spicy. She enjoyed it. Just didn't give much lettuce and she was hoping for more. They are more like small tortillas cut in half and with toppings...so each pieces is big and is covered with topping. My friend got the Elvis chicken with side of boom boom sauce (on recommendation of a review here) That was great too. The chicken was amazingly moist. The boom boom sauce. The sauces added the flavor really to everything here. They have Awesome decor. Very fun. They give fresh chips when there. There is a salsa they have (tastes pretty good. A little spicy) and this creamy sauce/dip called creamy jalapeño. It tastes almost like a ranch flavored dip. My mom won't eat ANYTHING remotely spicy. Like even regular pepper she won't use lol. But she was ready to drink that creamy jalapeño sauce. I had to look up a copycat recipe she liked it so much. It's good on everything. Lol. You can watch them make fresh tortillas (this entertained my mom!). Waitress was awesome. She took a lot of time helping my mom pick out a meal that had no "burn". She was very attentive. She blessed us with a gracious plenty of chips and dip. I brought my leftovers home (there was a lot) and my boyfriend liked it so much, he licked the plate clean. Lol I only gave 3 stars bc I believe there would be better out there. I was hesitant to give 4 or 5 only because some things lacked som flavor to my (the rice, the beans, even could've used more salt on stuff). But overall, I would come back again. Finally got a chance for date night with the hubby and was very disappointed by this restaurant pick. We were seated immediately, the staff was cordial, but the wait for food was longer than expected. When the food arrived, his food was hot but mine was lukewarm at best. My shrimp tacos were dry because they forgot to add the jalapeño cream sauce that came on it and by the time I was able to find the waiter again to bring it to his attention, my originally lukewarm food (beans, rice and tacos) was surely cold. The waiter was apologetic and offered to bring the sauce on the side to add to my now cold entree. By that time, my husband was done eating (he'd only eaten a fourth of what was on his plate and decided to leave the rest behind). In essence, everything they brought to the table was just...not...good. I know not to expect to get a 5 star Michelin experience at a Tex mex restaurant but I at least expect the food to be edible. It was overly salty in my opinion on, even for Tex mex. Upon arrival, I noticed they offer complimentary parking, too bad I'd already parked! My friend and I met up for dinner on evening during the week, had no wait, which was a bonus. We were promptly provided with chips and spent a little too long catching up before ordering (opps!) Our waitress was patient and helped me located a few things on the menu that I could eat, as a vegetarian. I ordered a combo, which was plenty of food and priced well. I love this place. It was my first time here and wont be my last. My husband and I were in North Hills one afternoon and decided to give Chuy's a try. The atmosphere is very inviting, fun, and colorful. They have outside seating as well if your looking for some fresh air. We were seated right away in a cute booth. It was 50's theme/dogs. I love dogs so I was thrilled! We got our chips, salsa, and a spicy ranch dip. I thought the chips and dip were great! Best I ever had! I didn't think they were to salty at all like other yelpers said. We also ordered two house margaritas as that was the special for the day. They were great and they have a ton of other options for margaritas. If it wasn't so early in the day I would of tried more. For our entrees my husband and I both got Comida Deluxe which is cheese Tex-Mex enchiladas, chicken flautas, a seasoned ground sirloin crispy taco, guacamole & homemade tostada chips dipped in chile con queso. Everything was delicious including our sides of rice and beans. The portions are huge and very well priced. My favorite Mexican/Tex-Mex place in the triangle. Great service, very friendly! The silverware comes in a package showing that it was cleaned. No water spots. They have deals everyday on food and drinks plus happy hour. read more

My friends and I decided to come to here for dinner last night (a Tuesday). Here's The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: (tl;dr at the bottom) The Good: The bartender mentioned that all margaritas were $1 off! So, we got ourselves a collective total of 4 margaritas! We were so excited. Margaritas were delicious, well-made, and juicy! The chips and dip were pretty good, I must say. Chips were nice and crunchy, but not the super thick ones which I prefer. The salsa was spicy, and they also brought us complimentary queso dip! The Bad: North Hills is always busy, so we weren't expecting to get sat right away and we were fine with waiting. When we walked in, the hostess was holding her head in her hands talking to guests in front of us, obviously stressed out. She had a blank stare in her eyes and was clearly annoyed with them. My friends and I just walked around and tried to find some seats at the bar because we did not want to even talk to this hostess. A terrible 'front-face' of the restaurant. While sitting at the bar, my friends and I just wanted to enjoy the environment a bit, but the servers that came up to the bar to pick up their drinks kept bad mouthing the guests they were serving. I understand sometimes you don't always have great guests, or you're stressed, but don't talk like that in front of other customers. We have ears. It was just plain rude. The food was okay. We ordered nachos with beef, but they forgot our beef. When mentioned they obviously just took it back to the kitchen and threw some beef on the same plate. The cheese on the nachos were sitting under the light too long because it was cold and dry. I had the classic enchiladas and wow, they were so tiny I could barely see them on my plate. A small portion and it was just okay. My friend had the chicken salad and the lettuce was not fresh, but the chicken was okay. The Ugly: The main thing that really irked me was that when the bartender gave us the check, we noticed that there was no discount given for the margaritas. We asked why and she told us that it was only for frozen margaritas. Why didn't she tell us that when she knew we were only getting margaritas because they were $1 off? The management needs to either specify that on the menu, or the bartenders and servers need to clarify that with the guests. When the bartender kept walking to talk to the other serves about their guests, we tried to say "excuse me" or "ma'am" to get more napkins, dressing for the salad, etc. but was ignored. It took about 3 tries to get her attention. We were the only ones at the bar. The restaurant was not busy. There were several booths and tables open, yet somehow all the servers and the bartender seemed to be stressed out and unable to handle the dinner "rush". Not a lot of these employees can do well under pressure, even when there isn't any pressure. TL;DR: Terrible customer service and rude employees, food is okay but nothing to go out of your way for, drinks are delicious and juicy. My family loved this place the first few times we dined there. However, the last three times, not so much. The last visit was the topper. We were basically forgotten in a back corner booth. The waitress acted like it was the last place she wanted to be. The server brought our food, we asked for refills and ketchup (for my son's burger) which never arrived. The food temperature was poor, and the shrimp tacos have been changed (now stuffed with red cabbage-outweighing the rest of the ingredients). We noticed another table of 4 who had arrived later, with no kids and ordering lots of alcoholic drinks, getting faster and friendlier service. If you don't want children there, or those who don't order alcohol, place a sign up, hang a banner, place some ads, something to let people know. We felt like second class patrons and that's sad. We will wait a year or so, and see if things improve to warrant our return. read more

The Good: I always like to find the positive in any situation if possible. 1) The atmosphere was inviting and appropriate for the genre of cuisine served. 2) The location is great, and there is patio seating which overlooks an area in North Hills where many events take place. The Bad: 1) The management: Every business has an off night. It took us over an hour to get our food. I worked in restaurants and I know that could be a sign of poor management, but is often just a snowball screw up. The problem here was that even after the manager visited our table to apologize for the slow service, the food still came out wrong. The waitress apologized, but the manager never came back out. Furthermore, my daughter had to wait an additional 20 minutes for her corrected order. Still, no manager, and worse yet, no offer to comp that meal. We paid full boat. I also tipped well since the server had little to do with the issue. 2) The food: The food is your standard fare, delivered frozen from a truck type of tex-mex cuisine. It was served hot and just as the owners may have envisioned it, but it still wasn't very appetizing. It was ok at best. The Queso was not made of goat's milk cheese, but tasted more like the melted cheeze whiz on a philly... just with Jalapenos added. 3) The Prices: The prices were higher than average for this type of cuisine. Raleigh has two premier Mexican restaurants that prepare fresh and unique takes on mexican cuisine. Both Gonza and Dos Taquitos do all that in the same price range as this restaurant and manage to do so with fresh ingredients. Disclaimer... I do not drink so I tried nothing from the bar. There were many folks there who seemed to be enjoying cocktails. Their bar may be their thing. If so, I'm unqualified to offer an opinion. read more

Chuy's spells mediocre with a capital "M"! That has been my experience while visiting here a handful of times. Service is usually very friendly and prompt, but the food, when compared to some of the bountiful options of authentic Mexican food in the area, is just "meh". My most recent visit I had the "street tacos" with hatch chili. These tacos had my mouth blazing and I was full after eating the tacos, rice and beans, but to be honest the Yard House up the road does a better rendition of street tacos. I will probably continue to come to Chuy's from time to time, but more for the atmosphere than the food. read more

I have been a fan of Chuy's for many years. My favorite was the Taco Salad in the shell. Our office ordered lots of lunches during Covid and we were never disappointed. But something has happened to the Taco Salad. First no more Shell, the salad was half the size it was, the greens were so nice and crispy and green. Last night the greens were stalks if Romaine and brown or white. Not fresh and leafy. There was no taste. Normally I could take half home for another meal but no more. It was pitiful and very disappointing. I will go somewhere else for salad it was bad quality and I couldn't finish it and definitely did not get a takeout box. read more

I love the interior at Chuy's! I think it creates a neat atmosphere. However you are paying for that atmosphere, the prices are higher than what you would find at most Mexican restaurants. The free chip bar during happy hour is an awesome deal. However if it is not happy hour they charge $9 for queso which I thought was a little steep. I loved watching the woman making the fresh tortillas, they are literally just made when you order them. The food was good, but nothing to write home about. I think the queso was my favorite part of the meal. Overall great ambiance for something a little different and if you are going after work the nacho bar is an awesome perk. We ate at Chuy's which is Tex Mex restaurant on April 29th.We have lived in the Raleigh area going on 3 years now and we love this place. We have never eaten inside the restaurant. Instead we prefer the outside deck and enjoying the park and people that visit the park. There chips are thin n crispy and the salsa is a little spicy but very good. I ordered a Long Island ice tea and my wife ordered a plain Margarita on the rocks. Both drinks were very good and refreshing as it was 85 degrees out and my wife wanted to sit in the sun. I ordered the custom Enchilada with w/onions in it and with the boom boom sauce on it, it was absolutely awesome. The rice was not bad but then Mexican style rice is rather difficult to get right. My wife ordered the bean burrito w/ Ranchero sauce. It was a light breezy day and we were entertained by the families playing in the large open park. Very cool and casual atmosphere, especially if you choose to sit outside near the green open spaces and outdoor amphitheater. Staff was courteous, patient, and informative on the menu selections. Vegan options are limited, but I was able to request enchiladas without cheese. Food was hot upon arrival.
