Chutney's in the Longwood Galleria Food Court is such a gem! I mean I've only had their samosas before but they were so good. I used to go at least once a week in between classes to get samosas from here. I'd definitely come back to try their other dishes like Chicken tikka masala and lamb curry. The staff is always so sweet and kind. One of the reason why I keep coming back, honestly!! Parking: honestly very tough to find parking in the Longwood Area. A couple of the major hospitals are right here, so it's mostly parking garages. The galleria does have its own plaza though too! If you're willing to walk 5 min, you may be able to find parking in Misson Hill area. read more

Chutney's is a refreshing addition to the Galleria's food court. Fairly new stall, been there for about a year, but I never gave it a try as it's something different from your typical food court fare and well...I don't think I've ever seen anyone order from there. Was getting tired of the McD's and Subways so I finally gave Chutney's a go. So far I've had their Tikka Masala wrap and Chutney's chicken rice bowl. I like how you have the option of choosing how you want your meal to be- either in a rice bowl, a wrap, or in a nanini (panini-look a like). You also have the option of choosing chicken or lamb which is pretty fancy. Even though Chutney's is Indian food, it still has the fast food assembly line element. Once you choose your style of meat doused in curry, then you're prompted in choosing what vegetables you'd like sprinkled on there and what additional sauce you want. It's like the Subway of Indian food. Their chicken I've had so far is too dry for me, but I don't know if that's just how it's done with Indian curry (I rarely eat Indian food). The curry on the other hand is flavorful. Their rice is really fragrant and reminds me of Thai white rice. You really don't need to add any additional sauce when they prompt you to choose once because the flavoring from the curry itself is just fine. Drinks wise, I tried their home-made mango lassi and it's so good! Mango lassi is a mango-yogurt drink and I loved how you could really taste the mango and the thickness of it all. Chutney's is a little pricey in comparison to the other stalls. With a meal and a drink, it'll cost you an average of $7-9, but the meal itself is very filling and something refreshingly different when everything else is starting to get old. read more

There is a problem here, one large enough to ruin a good review. Really flavorful and fresh food ruined by two things. First is presentation & packaging, second is a double taxation & tax rate at a higher percent. Three options here for preparation, wrap, bowl, and nanini. Always get the bowl, unless you want a mess on your hands. They serve in foil in foil lined bags, however the foil lined bags are so small. They will take your wrap and wrap it so tightly that it bursts and you are left with what I like to call a wet diaper wrap. The nanini, which is a grilled folded over pita bread, is taken from its half circle presentation and folded into a square, where it leaks like a cheap diaper from all sides requiring a tray and a fork and knife, and unfortunately none of these are provided. Go with a bowl and a fork. The pretty pictures of the food being served in baskets is dine by chutneys themselves. Longwood galkeria doesn't have the facilities for reusable plastic baskets, so don't expect one. Trays seemingly don't exist anymore. Let's talk tax. Taxes suck, taxing more than one should, sucky, adding another tax on top of it, skimming and extra sucky. Check your reciept your tax listed at 6.25% is actually closer to 7%, then listed below that is tax2, what is tax2? Dunno, but it is an additional .75% Thus when all is said and done you are paying 7.75% in tax, a full 1.5% over what the law says. Chutneys...are you skimming? I think you are! This was supposed to be a 2 star review as man the food has flavor... However the review by U.D. annoys me further. It is obviously the owner, only reviews the two chutneys locations, only posts quick tips about chutneys, only checks in at chutneys. The photos he posted makes the food look delightful, the squished mess you get in reality, quite a juxtaposition. Now had you let well enough alone, had you decided to just let others review you, that would have been one thing, but instead I will ream you a new #$&@hole instead. The "Hidden Gem" cliche simply does not do this place justice at all.... Everything is always tasty and FRESH!!! Customer service is always fast on point! The "Diamond in the Ruff" of Longwoods Food Court.. Living in Stoughton its never easy to come into town to grab some deliciousness but when I have an appointment in the area I almost always try to stop in and grab thier amazing Lamb Wrap with chickpeas and veggies...the wife usually gets one of the bowls.....also delicious! Chutneys is probably one of the worst Indian food places I've ever been to. Not specific to this chutneys, but just the chain. I went here for the 2nd time just to give it another chance and it helped confirm that! Talk to any Indian person and pm me their reaction when you ask them what they think of chutneys. I saw Chutney's for the first time last week and was fascinated by the idea of an "indian chipotle". I decided to order a saag paratha roll.The combination of liquidy fillings and a greasy paratha just meant that there was liquid saag dripping down my arms as I tried to eat. The other choices of toppings (lettuce, tomato, etc) didn't really go with any of the food. On top of that, the food was a lil too authentic. After a few hours, it was like rumble in the Bronx in my belly. I even started remembering my sweaty puke days during my Pakistan visits. I think the saag paneer is really comprised of senna and psyllium. Anyway, today my Saudi friend decided to bring me lunch: biryani with chili chicken and sauce. He said, "I know you are bekistani, you like biryani." He doth speak the truthe. I didn't really want to take a risk again, but was extremely hungry. He had a dripping nose because of his cold; I had a dripping nose because of the spice level. Indeed, it was a lovely sight. After a few bites, I couldn't take it anymore; I took the leftovers home. Right now, it is midnight. Mr. Alsomething just messaged me that he is cured of his cold; he believes all the viruses in his body died when they encountered the masala. Meanwhile, I am sitting next to my Lasko space heater eating the reheated biryani; the chicken is even more tender, the rice more saucy and flavorful. In conclusion, eating here can be really bad or really good. read more

The best part about Chutneys is that it combines my two favorite foods--burritos and Indian cuisine--into one amazing mouthsplosion. The worst part about Chutneys is that I can never return, for fear of full-on gut annihilation. I'm a fan of Chutney's. It is a little fast food Indian place tucked away int the corner in the Galleria. Obviously I wasn't expecting the most authentic dishes. However, their food is fresh and tastes wonderful. I always get the rice bowl. The portion is huge! The nanini and wrap are way to messy and stick to the tinfoil they use. On top of my rice bowl is either the chicken tikka, which is nice bite sized pieces of chicken with a light tamarind sauce or Chutney's paneer, which is packed with huge pieces of paneer, onions and peppers. They have a few veggies toppings to add and you have a nice selection of sauces. I skip the samosas. Just not worth the extra few bucks. They just recently added the option for brown rice. Nice work! My co-workers and I are big fans and have never been disappointed. A great option for a quick lunch in the Longwood area! read more

I'm glad this exists.. I really was craving it on the way to my doctor's appointment today. But I was hoping for saag paneer and they didn't have that or yogurt sauce.. which is what I really wanted. I suppose not the end of the world but it's a bit pricey for what it is and when you try to get the paratha wrap it pretty much falls apart. It's a good option for people in a food court I suppose - but a bummer when you go and they don't have the basics available. And, I ended up getting the lamb curry wrap which came out to around $12 - the same kind of price that you might see at an indian buffet that would have had plenty more options. I work in the LMA (Longwood Medical Area) and grab lunch at the food court occasionally. Welcome Chutney's, the Indian version of Chipotle. I've eaten here a few times now and each time, I cannot stray away from the Chutney chicken. The chunks are huge, flavorful, plentiful, and eh, decent quality meat, but what do you expect from a food court? I usually ask for all the veggie toppings available (lettuce, tomatoes, red onions, cilantro, cucumbers) plus the masala chili sauce (mildly spicy). The portion (both the paratha wrap and the bowl) is huge for the price ($6-7). The service is generally friendly and always fast. The only problem is that the food gives me awful breath (even mints can't fix it). Also, I really wish that they offer brown rice. read more

A decent option for the galleria. Fast, customizable, and seemingly fresh, not exactly 'traditional' or 'authentic' (but it's a food court, so that's par for the course). I had a chicken tikka rice bowl with tamarind sauce today, and was happy with the chicken quality (no strange bits or chewy pieces here) as well as the size (could only finish 2/3 of it in one go) and the flavor. [Update: the saag paneer and Chutney's paneer options are also quality fillings. Yum.] I wish they had more veggie add-on options... their 'veggies' are essentially standard sandwich fixin's (lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cilantro), whereas I would have loved options like shredded carrots or chopped broccoli to compliment my rice bowl better. I did like all their sauce/chutney options though, you're able to customize the flavor to your liking (tamarind and yogurt is the way to go). Price is in line with the food court (just under $7 for my bowl), although still on the high side IMO... keep in mind though that I personally still think anything over like $5 is expensive for lunch, so places like Chutney's are less of a regular occurance and more of a occasional special treat. This place is good for a quick stop while one lunch and you have that Indian fix you just have to get. I didn't think Indian food could be fast food, but it seems to work. The menu is pretty limited compared to a sit down Indian spot, but like I stated earlier it definitely will curb your craving. I tend to get the rice bowls here. The lamb is always very good, and the condiments are fresh. The service here is nice, and when they offer free samples, I will always take one, even if I don't eat there that day. When working in the Longwood/Fenway area, its nice to have that option to switch it up and get my Indian fix, then head back to work. read more

The location is a bit off the typical path (it's in that Longwood mall), so you need to be down to eat in a semi-dreary food court. Great food for the type of place that it is: fast and inexpensive. I go relatively often on my lunch break and am always pleased to see the options offered are a little different each time. The staff are not only friendly but just seem like genuinely kind nice folks. It's a business you can feel good about supporting. Always smiling and courteous. Now being so familiar with Indian tastes as I am, why would I give five stars to this kinda-sorta-Indian fast food joint in a food court? The problem with Indians reviewing Indian food places is either they expect it to taste just like what their mom would make or if not that then it has to be 'authentic'. Well it doesn't really work that way. The truth is AUTHENTIC FOOD DOES NOT NECESSARILY MEAN TASTY FOOD - two aspects of food most people seem to bundle together. I have grown up eating the most authentic kati rolls ever on the streets of Calcutta where it originated, some have been outstanding and others have been just terrible - yet they are all undeniably 'authentic'. Chutney's DOES NOT make an authentic kati roll (or wrap), nor is their biryiani 'authentic' but I can tell you they both taste DAMN GOOD! The spinach lamb or chicken has some real flavor and if you pair it with the biriyani - its fabulous!. Their wrap is more of a burrito with spinach lamb or tikka chicken inside - quite like a Indian-Mexican fusion, which I loved! The best part of Chutneys is that you can customize everything with the toppings and veggies and the sauces they have. So you can build something up to suit your taste. I load up on my favorite sauces, throwing in some mint chutney, some fiery habanero and cilantro with some curd-sauce to temper the heat and its out of this world! In the end, who cares if it is authentic or not, give me good, fresh, a nice blend of Indian spices that really jump out, each with its original tone and I will call it Indian any day and enjoy it to the fullest. Chutneys does exactly that -in no way do they claim that they serve 'authentic Indian food' (I would have deducted a star if they did) - but they serve up good, fresh, honest food with bright flavors that street food should have. Authentic Indian Food aficionados would probably disown me for this, but sorry, traditionalists, give me good tasting innovative 'pseudo-Indian' food any day over really badly prepared, tasteless, 'authentic' Indian food and I am happy. read more

This was just as my rating states, A'OK! We were visiting Harvard Square and happened to walk in the Galleria and we came across this place. I whipped out my phone to check other reviews of this place and it seemed like a legitimate place. The inside was an old Subway. The food was OK, the service and the prices were good for campus eats. My friend and I were exploring the Longwood Galleria area when we spotted Chutney's. We had eaten earlier but decided to get food to take home. I thought they had an excellent selection. You could get your food in a variety of ways; while tempted with the rice bowl, we both went with the panini sandwich (using Naan instead of traditional panini bread). Service was good, and the prices were really good for the amount of food. I got the aloo dish and my friend went with the lamb. We both went with rice and cucumbers and tomatoes. He got the yogurt chutney and I went with the mango. We heated the food up several hours later and it was very good. I have to imagine it's awesome when you eat it newly made. Vegetarian's Haven! Lot of options and good portions that will fill your deepest hunger. The entree's are priced just perfect that I consider are reasonable in a location like Cambridge/Boston. Had a really not so good experience when I decided to get my lunch from this place. The spinach lamb with biryani rice came with so much little rice and lamb that it was just about half full of their already tiny bowl after I paid $13 for the bowl. Mind you, the biryani rice is more expensive than the brown or white rice. Moreover, the guy behind the counter had some ethical issues, put back the jalapenos from my bowl back in to the container when I asked him to remove the extra jalapenos from my serving.
