It's open again! When they were rebuilding, I thought I might not like the patio, but, wow, it works! Good news, they expanded the bar so you can drink from both sides; there is also an autonomous bar in the patio area. The kitchen has improved 2000% and the croquetas are really good by any standard. When they opened, they had some silly tables and had removed a pool table. Thankfully they came to their senses and added a second table, so now the waits are OK. The staff is super friendly, with Flako, Claude, and the bar staff all being friendly and nice. Great place to go late to have a beer. And, yes, fly in the ointment... the beer selection is nowhere what it was before, which is normal, I suppose. read more

Before grungy bars went mainstream, Churchill's was there. In all it's grit and glory, this British Dive Bar oozing the perfect mix of style with an outlandishly punk aura tells the tale of how they've earned their spot as one of the best bars with live performances in the area. It's dark and grungy but charming in an alternative way. Don't feel the need to dress up here, it's not that kind of spot. The gross bathroom was recently redone which resolved plenty of hygiene concerns. I will say the writing and stickers on the wall added character while it lasted. The live music varies from Jazz to Rock so check their calendar. It's kinda like every part of Miami somewhat merges together here in a cohesively varied way. Sorry to see this place closed simply because so many bands had a chance to fill a tour date here...including my own. We played here in 2005 and it was full. Unfortunately over half the people there were just there to watch soccer and drink...but still a big crowd. Drinks were cold, didn't eat. Acoustics weren't great, but we didn't expect much when we pulled up and saw people walking barefoot across the streets and chickens running around aimlessly. Once upon a time, you would run into everyone and their mother at Churchill's on a Monday night. It was so fun and open mic was great. The place only sometimes had a (usually) reasonable cover like $5 or something and if you were a regular, you could sometimes talk down more expensive covers. Now, you're forced to pay for dirty parking (if you park anywhere else you will get your tires popped or windows smashed because they don't exactly like it when you finesse their system) AND you also have to pay for a cover-- yes, even on open mic nights (which are MUCH less populated now). There's two pool tables which are hogged by the same people, and the bartenders will greet you with the most unfathomable amount of attitude. Churchill veterans can now be found at Las Rosas and other similar venues. I really believe Churchill's has reached the end of its time, if only they could do it with some class. For tourists or new comers who are exploring this page, take it from someone who frequents the bar scene in Miami as a local and has given plenty of credible reviews: your money and time will be much better spent elsewhere! Would have given them two stars (because of good ol' times and for always letting me in back when I was underage) if it hadn't been for their immature and unprofessional response they left under my comment on Instagram-- which I am including a screenshot of! What an utterly delightful little punk rock bar! I wasn't expecting to find a home away from home (Providence, RI), but Churchill's is it! Stickers line the well stocked bar, the locals were a hell of a lot of fun to shoot pool with, and the bartender was as gracious as she was pretty (that's NOT New England sarcasm!) Churchill's is an institution. It's unapologetic in its grungy ways. You either take it or leave it basically. I had been here a few times years and years ago to see a friend's band play but it had been three or so years since I stopped by. Recently, I went with my friend to see a bunch of Nirvana tribute bands play in remembrance of Kurt Cobain. Overall we had a great time! The bartenders were very sweet and attentive. The music was great. They initially had some sound issues but all was resolved pretty quickly. The only thing that turns me off from this place is the smoking. This is one of the only bars left where you can smoke inside. It's jarring because I'm not used to it anymore and I hate coming home smelling like an ashtray. Also, this isn't really Churchill, more it's patrons, but during the show a person kept trying to start a mosh pit. I'm all about it, but he was constantly pushing into people that were not about it. He spilled two people's drinks. Come on guy. And come on Churchill, maybe that guy needs to go. I'll be back because I love live music and I enjoy checking out the local music scene. read more

Trying to write this review without expletives. It's hard. I have seen a bunch of shows here, lots of artsy musicians, lots of Monday night jazz events, a bunch of weird stuff and weird people. All of Miami's dysfunction in one place. The beers are regular beers, nothing fancy or craft. This place is more like a British pub actually, although invaded by punks, hipsters and anarchists. Dope crust punk bar with a good beer selection. Big place with multiple different rooms with multiple stages . Went for the noise fest and it was a good time . But this place desperately needs another bathroom. Held my pee in for hours due to someone ripping off the toilet seat, piss all over the floor, also walked into a guy across the bathroom pissing all over the floor. Disgusting ran across to a shady gas station in hopes of using a bathroom and they didn't have one either. It's a horrible disgusting pigsty with fly-swarmed bathrooms that will make you gag, sometimes bordering on hostile staff, and a random load-bearing column that obfuscates the stage throughout what should be prime viewing location, but that all somehow adds to the appeal. Just fucking go. It's impossible to explain how great it is until you're there. Why else would anyone ever pay an amount closer to 10.00 than 0.00 for a PBR at a bar in such a bad neighborhood? Life-changing shows and crazy people hang out here. In particular, go for any noise music related events you possibly can. Go for Sweatstock, where performance artists, confused-looking first timers, smug hipsters, and an eclectic mix of locals mingle and buzz. Go for Rat Bastard, who has been a fixture for decades. Forever after your first show, you'll recognize him in the background of countless other shows. Go for the chance that you might see the legendary Iggy Pop about five feet from you. Ok if you've never been to Churchills BE PREPARED.... do not expect a clean place because it is dirty and disgusting, the bathrooms are the worst and the lines for a busy night are killer. Wait... keep reading. Price drinks vary, do not expect to pay the same each time you go. It depends on the venue happening at the moment. Smoking is permitted inside and outside (they have a patio outside where multiple bands play while the main stage is occupied as well) Enough of how horrid it is and know that this is an iconic place in Miami, you have to plan your night by seeing what venue is happening on the day you go as everyday they have different bands. The crowd is eccentric that's for sure, if you are open to new experiences you will enjoy your time at this dirty, messy, sometimes overpriced drinks place. Everytime I've gone it's a different experience, you will see people dressed up, body paint, masks, piercings, tattoos etc.. so if you are bougie don't go LOL. They have great local bands that play there every week, some are hidden gems so make sure to go and support them. Parking.... parking is terrible on busy events, there is one lot across that u can park at, there will be homeless people or scammers trying to get you to pay for parking, the norm is people will pay for it because they usually watch out for you if needed. Sometimes on big events they do have legitimate people charging for parking. Parking is usually free unless it's a huge turnout and u will drive around looking for parking PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BE CAREFUL it is a terrible dangerous neighborhood and you can and will get jumped. Don't park or drive down the street stay on the main one and if it's too dark DON'T GO IN THERE. They don't charge for entry every night, they do charge on big events and it's usually 5 or 10 dollars to get in, this is not a place for children so please leave them at home! Make sure to dress up in your weirdest outfit, or kinkiest if you have one and come out to have a few drinks and enjoy the place. It will be fun if you make it (meaning have a few drinks before u can enjoy it) and please try not to use the restroom unless u want the whole churchills experience! read more

Yeah, I had a very happy experience in Churchill's. I sat at the bar and had fun talking to people. We laughed in there. Smoke filled the room, when a House Music group performed. Used to be a pretty decent bar but unfortunately has turned into an unprofessional and unfriendly environment. Parking USED to be free but now you're forced to pay the homeless people outside some type of compensation to park in a dirt lot or your car will be vandalized, which the bar does nothing to stop. I've personally seen it happen to people I know and strangers alike. Unnecessary cover charges for lackluster entertainment and overpriced drinks for the quality that they are. The bathrooms are never clean which is expected for a bar, but you'd think after all these years they'd at least have the decency to buy a proper door for some of the stalls that are legitimately only covered by a short piece of wood. Their management apparently doesn't know how to handle criticism or complaints like a proper business, instead opting to reply to serious issues with jokes and complete apathy towards the situation. I think I am in love...No, silly, not with a human being! With this cozy, grungy locale in the heart of Little Haiti! Finally, a place that is FUN, has good music (translation: nothing that is in our crappy choice of radio stations in SoFla, and nothing that is playing in the clubs), and where I can wear whatever the hell I want and look however I want and STILL be welcomed, with open arms, by the freaks and geeks. No velvet ropes, arrogant patrons looking down on me, or douchey doormen discriminating anyone. A breath of fresh air. Reminiscent of such iconic places as CBGBs in New York, which is now long gone, it is actually shocking to find such a cool place, which has history, mind you, in the midst of tropical, relatively modern, Miami. Who knew? Where have you been my whole life, Churchill's? I had always been fascinated by documentaries I had seen while discovering punk/new wave/goth music in my 20s (not that long ago!) that showcased the Batcave in London, and I always cursed the fact I was too young to have ever experienced it for myself. I thought that such relics were relegated to the past, and I was just born too late, with nothing to do about it. Enter Churchill's. I am glad to see that all hope is not gone. Seeing people in their Misfits gear, leather jackets and piercings, I can still feel as if I am a part of that time. I have heard they have an awesome Indian curry buffet on Wednesday nights, I will have to attempt to try it at least once. They also have jazz nights, if you're not into punk rock. It's cool to see the bands that come, they will play anything from Jimi Hendrix covers to hardcore punk rock, and there's a large sense of community. For example, leave it to patrons to adjust the sound system mid-song if there's equipment glitches, or microphone issues. By the way, I thought I should mention this considering the somewhat negative reviews: I don't feel unsafe at Churchill's, I know a lot of people are saying that it's a crime-ridden area, but honestly, there are plenty of people hanging out outside all the time, not just homeless folks guarding the lots, but locals and plenty of patrons who go out to take a break from playing pool to have a smoke...do you think this would be happening if there really were stray bullets going off in this neighborhood? Little Haiti's got nothing on Liberty City late at night. Churchill's would be a yuppy hipster hangout without that element of danger and grunge, so common to punk rock clubs (see CBGBs, which was not in a posh area of town either). Also, the people here are friendly without overstepping their bounds or being creepy. There are girls who go there on their own and don't feel harassed like they would at a "mainstream" club. People are there to genuinely laugh, joke around, heckle the bands sometimes, dance, and jam, without a care in the world about how silly they may look while dancing, they are not there to exclusively use the place as a pickup bar. PS: I used the bathroom a few weekends ago and it was actually clean, much cleaner than some restaurant bathrooms and yes, there WAS toilet paper, unlike some restaurant bathrooms. I was expecting to find graffiti'd walls, toilet paper and pee all over the floors and poop-covered toilet seats based on some of the reviews on here, but the toilet and bathroom itself was clean, small, but clean, and this was around 2 a.m., I guess they must have done some remodeling and cleanup. read more

On Monday nights, the venue hosts "Miami Jam Jazz". Started out with a featured jazz band later followed by a jam session where anyone can bring along their instrument and participate in the merriment of jazz. Anyone's first complaint would be the dinginess but staying true to its old/antique noncontemporary feel, discolored wallpapering, damaged walls, and nightmarish bathrooms certainly enhance the vibe these folks aim for. Churchill's = average bar, nothing special outside & nothing special inside. It's in a bad neighborhood, with homeless people trying to make money by supposedly watching your car. Inside there are billiard tables on one side, the bar doesn't look fully stocked and not a lot of bartenders. At least the one that served us was friendly but, I suggest you stick to beer when you're there. Yes, drinks are cheap - $4 for a Vodka Tonic - but I did not taste the vodka at all, and tonic was flat. Not good. One plus to this place is that they have a "patio" on the back, with a bar. Decent size, good break from the smoke inside. Back inside, on the other side of the bar, is where the bands played (which is what brought me here). Sound was bad, microphones not working, technical problems all around but, at least the bands and crowd's energy was good, so, thanks to them, it was a really good show after all. read more

Churchill's reminds me of the punk clubs in NY's East Village that I used to go to in the 80's. There is no place else like it in Miami. Total dive bar with live indie bands playing most nights. Very diverse crowd, including homeless people. Drink prices are fair but service can be a bit surly. The mens' room was so disgusting that I almost dry heaved. I don't even want to imagine what the kitchen looks like. The bartender (forgot her name - but she was full of awesome!) was so nice and even called a cab for me and my friend (since both of our cellphones had dead batteries). Miami's Hipster Institution - but much cleaner, nicer, and even cooler than what you may encounter in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY (Hipster Central, USA). Friendly staff, indie vibe & crowd (especially after 11 pm Mondays), good selection of beers, few English pub food (shepherd pie, fish & chips, etc), English soccer on tv, hip Monday jazz nights ($5 cover), "Theater de Underground" outdoors in the back, $1 pool tables, free parking... Great place to see a punk rock show. I heard this place was the "CBGB's of Miami" - It's true! Awesome dive bar, cool bar area, decent stage area, plenty of room to MOSH. Plenty of easy parking, area isn't "bad" -if you're not from SoFla don't be "concerned" that its in "Little Haiti." Saw CJ Ramone last night-he kicked ass as usual. Gazm and Dyslexic Postcards really impressed me also. Missed most of Broken Gold- went out front hung out, talked music with the locals and some band members. Broken Gold did sound good from outside Gazm did a kick ass cover of Ramones song, COMMANDO!! Dyslexic Postcards were cool as hell, had a few drinks with them after show. Have been going to Churchills since the late 90s, considered it home away from home through my youth and 20s. Today I posted a comment on their IG about their terrible bathrooms. Last time I was there, they flooded all the way to the bar on the inside and the entire back are was so flooded they had to open another exit. They also never have any hand soap or toilet paper. Today Churchills pub, decided it would be best to DELETE my comment than to address a real issue at their business with a long time customer. I love a good dive bar. To be an authentic good dive bar, said establishment must fulfill the following criteria: * doorman, after some cajoling, letws you in without either the "secret password" or paying the cover ("we just want a drink...we won't stay for the burlesque show...honest!) *latino biker guy offers you his barstool as soon as you walk up to the bar. He is covered in prison tats but impeccably polite *beer is frosty and cheap *there's a mix of skinny hipster guys growing their first rather comical beard, spaced-out Jamaican guys playing pool, cool friendly girls in all shapes, sizes, colors (not only the ponytail-blonde one-size-fits-all Hollywood screamers), and the above-mentioned bikers *the dj plays a good mix of the Smiths, a-ha, the Cure, and other 80s staples. It would have been great if he threw in some psychobilly and speed metal, but you can't have everything. Churchill's fulfilled all these criteria and more. Easy parking, great people watching, and the potential for a rumble. Friendly bartenders give the place an extra boost. Ladies, in the interest of full disclosure: I didn't try the restroom but I'm thinking it's not five star material. Crouching over the toilet is very good for your quads, though, so there is a silver lining even to that little wrinkle. read more
