This is one of the last cigar bars left in Denver. I have been an irregular regular nearly since I first moved here in 2003. I used to meet my lawyer buddies here on alternating Wednesdays, then friends from different groups. Sometimes I even enjoy going by myself for a quiet night out with a glass of wine. And, it hasn't changed. There's something comforting about having such an iconic and historic place in your adopted hometown being a part of your own history. Cigar cocktail lounge inside The Brown Palace Hotel downtown Denver. There is a huge selection of drinks and cigars. We each had a cocktail and husband had a cigar. It's a little pricey for the cigars, but I guess that is as expected for inside of a hotel. Ambiance is great, plenty of seating, and staff was attentive. I thought it was a little strange there were cigarette smokers in there as well but I'm from California so maybe I've just gotten used to not seeing that so much (most cigar lounges are just cigars in CA). This is a place of class and distinction. I found the Churchill Cigar Lounge just off the lobby. It is classy, comfortable and a great space to relax with a great smoke and a cocktail. Ibrahama greeted me immediately, offered me a seat at the bar and pored me a fine glass of rare whiskey. Was in town for a major conference and had a meeting with a colleague/friend who loves cigars. I found this place, which is near the hotels and convention center and away we went. We were automatically taken back to a different era and the detail and sophistication was top notch. Had one of my favorite cigars and I highly recommend the Smoky Old Fashioned. However this time around all I noticed was outdated decor, staff who really didn't want to be there and a poor selection of cigars and menu items. Impeccable Cigar lounge atmosphere tucked away in the ultra upscale Brown Palace Hotel (part of Marriot's Autograph collection). This is an old school Cigar lounge with plush leather couches, tasteful artwork, and well-appointed furnishings. Don't get me wrong, this place isn't stuffy or uptight. It's relaxing and welcoming. They have a full bar with an extensive list of classic and modern cocktails. Cigars can be ordered off the menu ( not a fan of this) and they bring you a nice cutter, matches, and cedar to get your stick fired up. I find their cigar prices on the expensive side and recommend bringing your own if possible. There's no walk-in humidor and their selection is thin. The staff is excellent and attentive. Prepare to be taken care of. Overall excellent experience and will make this my lounge of choice when in the Denver area. read more

Comfy, upscale, old school cigar bar. Picture it: Oversized worn in leather couches and arm chairs, along with some tables/chairs, a big bar and large humidor. It is floor to ceiling wood, leather and cigars. It works. Great ventilation system (translation no clouds of smoke lingering in the room). Fantastic service. You can order from the Palace Arms menu, but if you want free eats they will bring you stuffed olives (blue cheese), smoked almonds and Cajun mix if you need something to nibble with you drink and stogie. Came here on Valentine's Day to kill some time before our dinner reservations, and it was certainly a disappointment. The female bartender with the short black hair barely acknowledged that my partner and I existed. He ordered his drink and a cigar, and she served him his drink, forgetting his cigar. Another bartender noticed later that he was still waiting for it, and finally got one to him. Then, I ordered, and then she took the persons order next to me and served them first. She returned to me and asked me again what I had requested- a single glass of the only Pinot Grigio on the drink menu. Shockingly, she took another persons order and served them first, before finally giving me 1 glass of wine. My partner was then done with his drink and requested another. The bartender walked away, and then came back yet again asking what he had ordered. I wanted to leave her presence and sit at one of the tables, at which point she ran over to me to inform me that they were for "members only." Never told me members of what, and I certainly hope it was not Marriott Bonvoy, as I am, in fact, a member. After we were all finished and very displeased, we waited for her attention to request our check. She was so busy flirting with the man next to us that after a while, we gave up, and found the man who got my partner his cigar when she lazily failed to bring it to him. He gave us our check and she had overcharged us by around $20 with little apology, seeming drunk at this point. I thanked the man for removing it and for actually being attentive, and he informed me that he is very new and just doing his best. Terrible Valentine's Day experience and I feel very sorry for that man. read more

Story time! There we were, all dressed up and nowhere to go... Until Churchill. Dressed in "elegant evening attire" (the bride's words, not mine), my friends and I wanted to grab a drink prior to a wedding ceremony somewhere near Civic Center Park. It was 3:30 pm on a Saturday so options weren't plentiful, but the Brown Palace seemed like the perfect fit for our outing. We walked through the lobby and stumbled upon a giant tea party full of families and little girls that seemed picked out of a fairytale. We found our way towards the back to the bar entrance which smelt of cigar smoke. At first we were worried to show up to the wedding wreaking of smoke, but in the end decided it simply added to the atmosphere. Also, the ventilation seemed pretty good so the smell wasn't too heavy. Finding our spot at a round table in the back with oversized leather chairs to sit upon, we felt like high rollers. I ordered a whiskey cocktail, while others at my table enjoyed vodka martinis and whiskey on the rocks. We were also served olives stuffed with cheese, as well as mixed nuts. No one in my group smoked cigars, but there were a few gentleman nearby puffing away. All in all, it was the perfect choice for our afternoon rendezvous. There are no restrooms inside the bar, so you need to go next door to the restaurant for that. I'm so happy to have discovered this spot and would definitely return when the time is right again. A cigar lounge that is spacious, well ventilated with a full bar. This is located INSIDE the Brown Palace. You are welcome to bring your own cigars and they do not charge you a cut fee. While they do have some cigars on hand, their selection is limited. They do not have a large walk in humidor. They have maybe 10-15 cigars off a menu. They are good cigars tho but you will not find the latest cigar darling on their menu. I would say their drink menu is more impressive than their cigar menu. I came in late, around 10pm, and it was very quiet. A few tables are occupied, and there were only 2 cigar smokers. The drink service was quick and efficient. Had a Hennessy Privilege in a swisher and a cohiba, good 45min smoke while shooting the shit with a fellow co-worker. The decor is fairly old but well maintained, allot of wood panels, bright inside, dark when entering with several pictures and memorabilia in the outside corridors. This is a well-ventilated cigar bar. I came to Churchill's one-night last week after a beer at the Ship Tavern. This was a more cozy spot and I sat at the bar and had a light dinner here. I had the chicken bites with waffle fries and it was nothing to write home about-- OK to eat but really kind of forgettable. I also opted for a Michelob Ultra which is basically beer-flavored water. Why did I torture myself with a tasteless beer? I was craving onion soup on my recent trip to Denver and found this spot 2 blocks from my hotel. I've walked by the Brown Palace several times recently so it gave me a great reason to check out the property and get some dinner. I was seated quickly and had a drink in less than 5 minutes. Ordered the onion soup and a club sandwich. The soup came out luke warm. Flavor was ok but the cheese wasn't fully melted and the temp of the soup itself made for a very poor bowl. I ate about 1/3 of it before giving up. Credit to the staff for removing it from my bill with no question. The club was also disappointing. It looked like who ever put it together was blindfolded while assembling it. 3/4's of the meat was on one side of the sandwich. Taste was decent but presentation was atrocious. It's also important to note that this is a cigar bar. I used to enjoy them and don't mind the smoke but if you're sensitive to it then avoid this spot as virtually every table was smoking. Overall, it was a ok spot in a cool hotel. I'll probably give it another shot and try something else but the first trip was disappointing. read more

I've been a semi-regular here for probably close to a decade (if not longer), and it's definitely one of the nicer cigar bars in town. Cigar selection is smaller than a lot of other cigar bars, and the prices aren't what you'd call cheap (same goes for their drinks). Ambience is quite nice, however the seating is a bit limited on weekend evenings. My biggest peeve with this venue is that they close WAY too early--open only 'til 11:00, which means they're doing last call just after 10:00 (last time I was there, they were actually doing last call at 9:30, and on a weekend night...really?). It's like the place is run more for the convenience of the employees than the guests--I couldn't tell you how many times I've watched people wander in around 10:30, only to be told they can't get a drink...very disappointing. read more

No cutting fee..Right on guys, although I didn't bring my own, it's nice to know there's no cutting fee. I definitely felt as if I had walked into somewhere in the UK when I entered this bar. A small group of us on a work trip wanted to find a good spot for a cocktail and yelp sent us to the Churchill Bar. To get to the bar, you have to walk through a wonderful lobby filled with luxury and beautiful adornments. It's gorgeous! I should have known that it might have been smokey in the bar - I really don't like leaving locations smelling of smoke (I'm spoiled to have lived in many cities where that is being done away with...). I never think of this anymore since Chicago is smoke-free, plus I was searching yelp based upon star reviews and not written reviews....PLUS, some people are calling this a 'cigar room', but it wasn't listed this way on yelp. Oh well, my own fault... I thought that the wine list wasn't quite as varied and long as I would have hoped for a bar in a hotel, though I suppose this is where you go for a cocktail or scotch as I've seen reading the other reviews... Service was slow though we were the only ones in the bar and I think that it's pretty expensive for the selection (of wine). The new owner has to get it together. One waiter in Churchill's may cut your cost but the service for $15-$20 drinks suffers big time.
