Chunky Tomato is such a proper name for this establishment! I f I ate this every day that is what I would be...chunky. This food is so delicious that I could eat it every day. Not the largest menu but I like it that way. When the menu is focused on what it specializes in, the food is always better. I've eaten at this truck on multiple occasions and it's delicious every time. I am a bit of a wrap snob with regards to ingredient ratio. I like a balanced portion of each ingredient and the ABC wrap is always perfect portion ratios of bacon, cheese, chicken and avocado with no ingredient over powering another. I love the wrap itself too. Its a garlic herb wrap that I have not been able to find anywhere. It adds such a great flavor. Other wraps we've gotten before are the steak and brie panini which was also delicious. The toast can sometimes come out a little too toasted/dry and can scratch the roof of your mouth but that is common with many toasted sandwiches. Also have had the mozzarella and tomato panini. Very much like a caprese grilled sandwich and was delicious too. All in all, I love this place and look forward to it coming to my neighborhood. The owner is always pleasant and probably remembers me and my order at this point. He is the only one that works at the truck so when it's busy it does take a while to order/get your food. This good truck was in my work parking so I decided to stop by and see what they offered up and try them for lunch. They have pizzas, salads, paninis and wraps. I tried the Steak and Brie panini and my fried had the grilled chicken Cesar wrap. My panini was big enough for two and I thought it was good. The chix Cesar wrap was ok but this chix looked pinkish and like it was the kind of chix that you buy with the grill marks on it. I don't know if that is the case or not. I would order the Steak again, but wouldn't search this food truck. read more

I'm fairly impressed with the tomato soup from Chunky Tomato. Not too sweet, not too tomato tangy, not too watery, not too thick: most importantly, it ticked all the comfort boxes on this most Monday of Mondays. The accompanying garlic bread was also quite lovely, fluffy fresh on one side and crispy toasted on the other with a great garlic taste that was easily subdued by a couple of mints before my client meeting. I haven't worked my way through the rest of their menu and they have a whole bunch of gorgeous sounding salads, panini's, wraps and pastas for me to try. Very good wraps!!!! I got the ABC wrap which was avacado, bacon, chicken, and mozzarella cheese all wraped up in a herbed tortilla..... Then they pressed/ grilled it til it was crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. Gosh it was good! Every one in the family liked this! I've worked my way through a lot of Jacksonville's food trucks, and Chunky Tomato is definitely towards the top. I give them high marks for speed, cost, and variety. The reason I only did not give them 5 stars is that the food, particularly the garlic bread and lasagna, seems like it's pre-made frozen food. Which is absolutely fine for the price! And it's delicious! But it's very obviously frozen and mass produced. The lasagna is what I would describe as an elevated Stoffer's. It's damn near identical from the meat, the little bits of ricotta, and the noodle texture and quality. I mean, it even had the same number of layers as a Stoffer's meat lasagna has! They definitely elevate it by adding more of their own sauce and smothering it in mozzarella. It's really not bad, but don't be disillusioned into thinking this is Grandma's secret recipe lasagna. Again, it's tasty and inexpensive. The side salad was really the star of the show. The field greens were crisp, the tomatoes were large and juicy, tons of mozzarella cheese, and a variety of dressings to choose from. As far as food truck food goes, Chunky Tomato is among the best! I'd stick to their salads and wraps though since they seem to be the freshest menu items!! read more

Great food and friendly staff. The hungry monster was knocking at my door pretty loudly the other day so I knew I had to get food pretty quick. I walked outside my office and there it was: the Chunky Tomato food truck. Fate? I'll let you decide. So any who, I ordered a pepperoni pizza and house salad and my lunch dates got a BLT panini style and a mozzarella and tomato panini. I was super impressed. I didn't order thinking it was going to be awful by any means but I really did not expect this much flavor from a food truck. My dough was super crispy, the sauce was rich and the cheese was extra stringy- my favorite. I had a bite of the other items we ordered and the level of Yum was equal across the board. I went to see which truck would be in my neighborhood tonight. I'm so glad I did. Chunky Tomato was my option tonight and I was not familiar with them. The truck has more of a "free style approach" to its look versus a professionally done wrap, but don't let that fool you. The young man who was taking orders was extremely nice and very confident in the food being made by the owner/chef. I learned the chef was originally from England and came to Jacksonville originally for the Super Bowl to start a business here. This gentleman had a wonderful personality. The menu was broad. Pizza, lasagna, paninis, salads, and more. I picked the lasagna for my mom and learned it came with salad, bread, and dressing of choice. She loved it and she is quite particular. I chose the Steak and Brie panini. It also had roasted red peppers, field greens, and Pesto Mayo. OMG... one of the best paninis I have ever had. Absolutely loaded with steak and cheese on beautifully grilled bread. The young man told me the pizza was really good (like he really believed it... you could just tell), so I'll have to give that a go next time I see them. So, if you love finding "hole in the wall" brick and mortar places with great food and people who care... give these folks a shot!! I have to get food here again. Went to the food truck festival in downtown and I loved the sandwich I got. I got the tomato and mozzarella panini. It was delicious. It had roasted red peppers in it that made it stand out. You can tell the cheese was fresh. I ate one sandwich and I had to get another to take home it was that good. The sauce is mild (the way it should be) Ever since moving down here from the north it seems like all the small italian places in this part of the south wants to bombard the tomato sauce with way too much seasoning .. We sampled the pizza from the food truck at a local brewery. The pizza was pretty good! The reasons for two stars: When the food truck was ready to leave, the truck driver (owner?) realized that a car was blocking his exit. When no one came forward to move the vehicle, the driver started the engine, flooding the brewery with nasty exhaust emissions in retaliation. It was an obnoxious and vindictive thing to do. I understand the owner's frustration, but only one person had parked that vehicle. Every other person in the brewery was innocent of offense to the truck driver; many of the patrons had enjoyed the pizza and could no longer enjoy their beverages given the sickening smoke and fumes. Grabbed a bite from Chunky Tomato when they were at my office. I opted for the personal pizza, and while well priced for the portion size (from a food truck anyway) it wasn't really anything special. The crust seemed like a pre bought crust, and the cheese kind of reminded me of the cheese you got on cafeteria pizza back in the day, where no matter what it doesn't ever brown. That being said, there was a TON of cheese on it which makes it a little better. I ordered the 10-inch pizza, and added green peppers- the total was around $6.50. The crust was a bit basic, as it seemed to have been pre-made/purchased. However, the cheese was ample and the peppers were fresh and tasty. To be honest, I don't think there is anything exceptional about Chunky Tomato in comparison to various Italian fare out there. Not bad for the first time. The truck is in an out of the way location. The truck is maybe the smallest of all the trucks. Well maybe Smokin J's is smaller but. The food sounds good and I ordered the Italian Sausage Panini. It was small but for the money not bad. When I first looked at it I thought I don't know. After eating I enjoyed it specially after I was told it's the hotter sausage. That's ok with me I know hot. Then sandwich tasted good but was not very hot. I didn't see a sandwich press in the truck. In fact the cheese wasn't melted when I got it but it melted as time went bye. It is a husband and wife team that own an operate this truck and upon asking her about the truck and if they were on or reporting to any of the Facebook sites.
