First Georgia location with 3 locations in Alabama. Ownership same as 5 restaurant up the block. Fresh fish trucked in from Destin Florida. Full sushi bar so we split a roll as an appetizer while having a main course from the other side of the menu. ( Look at my photos) food is excellent but prices were high. Some interesting preparations like gulf fish (redfish last night) "paramadine" with crabmeat, sliced almonds and a big square of browned grits with Gouda like a fried polenta. Really tasty but the fish was just a little overdone. Seared scallops were perfectly cooked and delicious. Both came with excellent perfectly crisp fresh asparagus. Other options were a choice of one 3 fresh fish prepared grilled sauteed or bronzed, fried shrimp. Steak or chicken and a mixed seafood trio. One fish choice was hard to find yellow edge grouper for $41. The service was quick, pleasant and accurate and the server told us the prices of each of the specials without being asked.Nice. the place is a remodeled bus station and has a clean modern upscale look. A well choosen wine list and sake and some nice local beers. Noise level was ok and there were a lot of outdoor tables but no one was out there on a warm night. Sushi was fresh and well prepared. One of the worst meals I've ever had! I had to toss out the seafood gumbo , it was so hot and distasteful! I would not have fed that to A stray dog! It was way overpriced as a meal for two persons at $77.88. There was inadequate parking with only two spaces in front of the facility and I think there was 1-2 handicap parking on the side. Both myself and my husband are disabled and unable to walk any distance. They did not bother to tell us that when we called to place a take out order. Both meals were in edible. The worst part was they charged me a 15% tip on a take out order without informing me and just added it to my check. I tip on takeout only when it's my choice and I wish I had known that before I placed an order so late at night and so hungry and I would've told him to stick the meal and gone somewhere else. We dined at Chuck's after the Arkansas game and had heard it was a wonderful place to eat. Our reservation was at 7 through Opentable and got a notification at 6:50 pm our table was ready. When I arrived the hostess advised that our table was not ready. In fact, we waited nearly 40 minutes for a table. We both ordered the special and waited nearly an hour for our food. When we received the food it was nothing special for $49 a plate. I would not recommend this place and have heard others agree that it's overpriced for the service and food. read more

Genuinely one of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant in a while. After being seated we weren't able to to order our food for over 30 minutes because the restaurant was busy but that wasn't the problem. We ordered and were waiting for our sushi to come and but there was no sign of our food. We asked our server for updates a few times and we were told the food was going to come out soon. Even though the long wait we never heard from the manager who i believe was named Tyler. Instead he was busy taking shots with his friends who were at another table. The tables around us were getting their food, eating it, and even getting their checks before we saw any food... At that point we decided it was enough and we stopped the manager. We had been at the restaurant for 1.5 hours and had ordered our food 50 minutes earlier.... When we brought this to his attention the manager noted that a wait time of 50 minutes was not that bad and that it was a busy night. 50 minutes to roll some sushi is ridiculous. On top of that a manager on a shift that is this "busy" who never checked on costumers waiting for 50 minutes and instead was taking shots seems like poor judgement. We had to ask the manager for a discount given the time we had to wait and he gave a condescending answer about how he does not think this warrants a discount but in this case he will. We had heard a lot about this place and wanted to try it out. Both of our dinners were so spicy we could barely eat them. When you're paying $40 for a meal you don't want to just eat it you want to enjoy it. When I mentioned this to the waitress she immediately took my dinner plate back and had it re-done for me. It was much better but at that point my husband had finished eating (he should have sent his dinner back also as it was even spicer than mine) and I wasn't much in the mood to continue eating. I wish from the outset the waitress would have mentioned that the dishes tend to be spicy because then we could've stated our preference. My boyfriend and I ate here last night with some friends for my birthday dinner. To start off there's not a whole lot of available parking so you have to either park in a street spot way up the street or a street over or you have to park in the Georgia parking lot across the street- that doesn't open till 5 though. Just an FYI. When we first got there our friends we're running late so we sat at the bar and ordered a drink. My boyfriend ordered the black Manhattan off the cocktail list and I ordered the airmail. I do not like super sweet cocktails but I also do not like them to be bitter. Both cocktails were expertly crafted and tasted delicious! The bar staff were kind and obviously very well experienced. If you're looking for a good cocktail look no further. After we had finished our cocktails we texted our friends Who said they were right up the street so we asked to get a table. The hostesses said they could only seat us if our party was complete. This was annoying considering that they tried to seat us incomplete when we first walked in and only now told us that. The restaurant was starting to get busy so we were a bit worried about securing a table. We sat back down and waited in the front anyways- but then while waiting we saw the hostesses seat 3 incomplete parties. Im not sure what was going on there- but that was a bit inconsistent and rude. Shortly thereafter our friends arrived and we sat down. I ordered their fish of the day with the seasonal vegetable and my boyfriend ordered sushi. We also ordered the bread and shrimp appetizer to start with. I don't recommend the bread because it was just straight garlic bread (which we love! We were just expecting more like dinner rolls or something like that.) The shrimp was delicious and my boyfriends sushi was delicious too. My fish was "okay" but absolutely not worth the market price of $36. The fish was coated in a lemon caper butter sauce and It was served on a bed of rice pilaf and collard greens. The collards were good but the whole combination was just a bit odd. I think If the vegetable wasn't collards and if the rice was mashed potatoes it would have been awesome. As it was now it left a little to be desired. He told them it was my birthday and they said they we could order something off the menu but didn't do any complimentary birthday desert. This is obviously never required but just seems an industry standard at finer restaurants. Our friend ordered a mango sushi roll which he said was delicious. He ordered the chicken spring rolls and they were probably the best thing I ate all night. All in all it was a good experience but could have been better! If they could secure the birthday crowds they could be unstoppable as the go to place in Athens but as it is now they have some things to work on. read more

We've dined here 3 times in the last few months. The first time was outstanding- the sushi was amazing- best in Athens, the grouper with artichokes and risotto was outstanding, and the chicken piccata was the best I've ever eaten- it was rich and lemony and perfectly balanced. The service was also on point the first time. The second and third time we went were not as good. The chicken piccata was too heavy on the capers and had no flavor of lemon at all and the sushi was subpar. On top of that our order was messed up and we received the wrong rolls. The truffle Parmesan fries had no truffle flavor whatsoever, and when we inquired about it we were told it had plenty....the server had worked there 3 days and was insisting the fries were perfect to a table of former chefs and foodies. I can guarantee there was no truffle oil on them. All in all, the food and service has not been consistent. I do hope they get it together because Chucks is a restaurant Athens needs- it has potential of being one of the best, but it's not there yet. read more

I had the most disappointing experience at Chuck's in multiple aspects. The service was painfully slow and our waiter seemed incapable of serving our table of 8 people. He would take orders from 1-2 people at a time and then disappear for 15 minutes at a time. Half our table ordered a full 15-20 minutes before the other half. My friend's dish was completely forgotten at our table. I ordered two simple sushi rolls and all other 7 people had finished their meals (that actually required cooking) before I got mine. I had to track down our waiter and ask about my meal and ended up having to get it boxed up and didn't even get to eat it there because the rest of my table had finished and had our plates cleared. Getting our check taken care of took a painful half hour. I did contest being charged for my sushi as I hadn't even been able to eat it (this is 2 hours after being seated). The manager agreed to take the sushi off my bill but did not comp me the full amount of the sushi and then also charged us for a side that the waiter completely forgot to bring. I understand there are bumps along the way in opening a new restaurant, but my anger stems from the way the situation was handled by our waiter and the manager. I asked to speak to the manager and was met with immediate defensiveness and a hostile demeanor when I tried to explain the wrongful charge and while I was trying to give feedback on our service. A simple apology would have made everything okay. I will NEVER return to chuck's or recommend it just based on the demeanor of the staff and manager. And to wrap it all up when I ate my sushi at home it was no better than something you would get at kroger. Very disappointing on many levels, especially for a restaurant charging on average 20-35$/plate. If you value friendly service and good food, don't bother. read more

Big disappointment. I don't mind the cost, but this place was mediocre at best. (The waitress was good.) I had scallops, which were themselves OK not great, BUT they came with lukewarm/cool risotto and lukewarm/cool black eyed peas, neither of which was good: mushy risotto, indifferent black eyed peas. My wife had Fish of the Day, and it was likewise not anywhere near to being worth a recommendation. Presentation was not good.
