Visiting Utah from California with my boyfriend, and Chuck-A-Rama was one of the highlights of my trip! We went for Mexican Night and loved it so much that we came back again for Italian Night. As someone who grew up going to HomeTown Buffet, this felt like the homemade version of that experience comforting, fresh, and made with care. Everything we tried was delicious. Italian Night was just as impressive, with favorites like lasagna, spaghetti, Alfredo pasta, meatballs. I love their fries and pizza lol. The dessert selection was amazing too, there was so much variety, like their rice puddinf. The staff was friendly, the restaurant was clean, and the food was consistently great both visits. Honestly, I wish we had a Chuck-A-Rama in California. We'd be regulars! I should know better than to come to Chuck-a-Rama on Tuesday nights. It's Asian night. They need to stick to making good old American food. Stop trying to make Asian food. You don't have the pallet for it. The sweet and sour sauce is just sour. The fried rice has no flavor. The eggrolls tastes like they came from a frozen box and was fried. Shall I keep going? Your salad bar could use a little more variety choices. I would love to see beets, mushrooms, and baby corn. The seafood salad used to have more imitation crab and is now mostly celery. The monkey bread is good when it's fresh. Lately, it seems like the rolls don't proof enough before baking and they turn out flat and tough. One thing they nail every time is their fresh baked rolls. They are always fluffy and buttery. Another won is the turkey, which is always moist and flavorful. My last complaint is I would love to have a PIECE of fried chicken that's not the size of a half chicken. These pieces are HUGE AND DRY. Both fried and baked chicken have good flavors. I just wish they were smaller, juicy pieces. Some nights are better than others. You can't beat the value you get here. Just not on Tuesday nights. read more

I never have a bad time eating here. Chuck a Rama has set favorites that are the same at all of their locations but they also do a weekly rotation. My favorite is Monday for the biscuits and street tacos. Try a bite of everything they offer there surely there is something you like. A lot of the waitstaff has been here a long time so that is saying something. read more

I go to Chuckarama often.The one in Murray UT is the WORST. Their blue cheese dressing was watered down so thin it ran off my plate. The fried chicken was not battered and the skin was like rubber. Friday is fish day, and I am obsessed with the clam chowder! It's creamy, flavorful, and all around delicious! The service is always wonderful and this location is always clean. The only issue is their ice makers. The ice on both drink machines comes out slowly, and there was even a visit where they did not have ice at all. The review I am giving is of a buffet, not a fine dining restaurant. I see a lot of two and three star reviews, and complaints that they do not have all you can eat prime rib for $16-$20. That is laughable! There are two large buffets in the area, they both have good qualities and bad qualities. I am going to concentrate on the good. This location always seems to be busy because it's on fashion place mall parking far south west corner next to olive garden. My son really likes the drink selection and the different food options that changes daily. I like the huge salad bar and soups. Fried chicken is really good too. My family likes to come here for the variety and freshness but it's really crowded all the time. We usually come for later lunch but your still bumped around. Hence the loss of stars. Servers work really hard as there are always big groups celebrating something. A lot of seniors dine here but they get a good discount. Food is ok nothing amazing but good once in a while. Chuck A Rama in St. George has good food. The salad bar is great, their carrot cake is the best in town, and Mexican day is our favorite. I would give them 5 stars if they would include fried shrimp on their fish day. They only serve the shrimp for dinner on fish day and I don't see why. They charge enough to do so. Chuck costs a dollar or two more than Golden Corral, who always has fried shrimp and takes Dixie Direct. Chuck A Rama does not. Chuck A Rama is an old solid UT restaurant. We came with family in a group of 12 on 12/22 and were promptly seated at a great table and were assigned a fabulous server named Noel. He was a fantastic server and attended to all of his tables in a non obtrusive but super efficient manner. He even offered to shoot a group pic. Food was good with the exception of the carving board area as with all Chuck A Rama's the beef, ham, and turkey, were carved down to a 3/4 inch bone dry shingle. They never filled the meats throughout our visit. We've experienced the same thing at the Bountiful and 4TH South Salt Lake location so iy must be a cost saving strategy. They almost look like props, I did try a slice of the beef and found it inedible it was so dry and tough. Salad bar and other offerings were fantastic but either keep up on your carving meats or don't serve them. Folks just walk by the dried out shingles so it's an obviously known issue. Due to service, cleanliness, and completeness of the other bars, I'm rating this good and it could soar if they'd fix the carving station issues. read more

This is your typical buffet, but better than most other competitor buffets like Golden Corral. I think they could flavor some of their items a little better (corn, green beans, etc) as they were really bland, but they had such a variety of other foods that you could find something you like. I personally loved the warm rolls and the honey butter and cinnamon butter. It was the perfect yeast roll! The dessert bar is heaven if you like chocolate. My only complaint is some of the serving spoons were left on the tray so the handle was actually so hot it left a slight burn on my hand. A family favorite for classic American! Great value. Going to a buffet doesn't mean that you need to sacrifice eating healthy. For "cleaner" options - you can stick to salad w/ light dressing, roast chicken or other lean meats, roasted pumpkin, and steamed veggies. My personal favorite meat option is the sticky bbq chicken! For more indulgent items, the scones with honey butter on top is phenomenal. Can't go wrong with Mac n cheese, fries + fry sauce, mashed potatoes, and coconut fried shrimp. My 6 year olds the Mac n Cheese two thumbs up! There's a large variety of classic and hearty desserts - cookies, brownies, pies, and cakes that you can try a smattering of. The ambiance is kind of hectic with the crowds, but this adds to the fun in my opinion - what with the big families and kids running around. I'm here for it. Love that they are open on holidays ! I'd like to start by saying that I usually HATE buffets. I normally find their food to be less than elementary school quality, and that's me putting it nicely. However, I came here for a birthday dinner, so I figured that I mine as well suck up my pride and at least taste the food... which I'm glad I did. Something I noticed immediately was the cleanliness of the buffet area. That's always a major plus for me; not to also mention a rarity! As for the service and food: Our server did pretty well, considering the size of our group, and the food was probably the best buffet food I've ever had (I'm aware that's not saying much, but take it as you'd like, lol)... especially their prime rib. We went to the one in Murray, UT, by Fashion Place Mall. It was super busy, with peeps of all ages. Each nite has a theme and, tonite was "Mexican." There were enchiladas and taco fixings. After having read so much about this being a Utah business, and being so highly rated, I decided to try Chuck-A-Rama out...despite having a name that makes me thing of someone upchucking. The $11.99 lunch price honestly seems quite high for someone who doesn't drink soda or any other drink besides water. (the price of the buffet includes a drink) When you first sit down, a waitress comes over and then brings you your first drink. As it was my first experience here, I was unsure if I could grab my own refills of water, but apparently that was ok. Each day has certain specials. I ate baked chicken and salad, along with some funeral potatoes. I also tried some of their famous rolls-both white and wheat with their honey butter. There are also several different desserts and soft serve ice cream. I enjoyed the apple crisp and freshly baked cookies the most. If you have a family, or a group of people that wants different types of food, this is a perfect place for you, especially if you have a large appetite. read more

As seniors, we eat at the Murray location (next to Fashion Place mall) at least once a week. The lunch price of approximately $12.50 includes a great selection, drink, and dessert. Being calorie conscious, we really load up on the fabulous salad bar----the best we've found in Salt Lake. That's usually enough to satisfy us without needed any of the entrees. We always enjoy the quality of the food, but, of course, we do have our favorites (enchiladas and the wonderful, crispy french fries! ) Of particular interest (and here's a big "shoutout") is the incredibly friendly and attentive service from everyone there, including those at the front desk and all the servers. We get better service there than at most other restaurants we visit. It's a pleasure to tip our servers. Highly recommended! Food was abysmal. Website makes them seem like they have more choices than they truly do, it tastes really mid, very small flavor and when there was it was bad. The short ribs were all fat, the chicken legs were so grisly, genuinely the only thing you can still rely on at chuck a Rama is their rolls and salad bar. They also took away apple beer. The horchata tasted like watered down cinnamon, and desserts were subpar too. Our server was amazing tho cleared plates right as we finished. Visited the Midvale Chuck a Rama. I was pleasantly surprised. The food was hot and cooked well. Drinks were plenty. The amount of options are off the charts. Juice selections Coke or Pepsi selections, coffee or iced coffee as well as other options including slurpees. We went on seafood day. The shrimp was great. The fish was mostly good. I think I may have given a previous review for the Fashion Place location so this may be an updated review. We used to love Chuck-A-Rama but our opinions have changed. They keep raising their prices. The quality of their food has decreased. I do not recommend this location for any of you that like to have a peaceful atmosphere for dining. This location has become a low class, noisy place. The manager and/or servers need to have more control over the sound level in the restaurant!. We were sitting near a group of men that looked like they just got off of a construction job. One man was talking and laughing at the top of his voice. I am sure the whole place could hear him and his companions. We complained to a server and she said she would get a manager to come out to control the situation. We never did see a manager come out! Levi was the most amazing server I have ever had in my entire life!!! He said he cooked all the food himself and even built the place. I hope they give that man lots of money, but we unfortunately do not believe in tipping. He's a cool guy tho. To say that I had one of the worst experiences ever is to say nothing. The buffet appears rather attractive in the beginning, but after trying their mashed potatoes with beef, I found a piece of rope and hair in that dish. I promptly address this was an assistant manager who told me that this can happen sometimes. After I had advised her that this is a health department violation, she asked what she could do for me. At least I requested a refund, which I was promptly given. There is no excuse for having anything but digestible by humans in human food. That made me sort of sick. Holy crap. Buffets are nothing but chaos. People running into people, fighting over the last piece of chicken, heaping plates of food, like this is your last meal, and you'll never eat again. Chuck a Rama is no different. Kids screaming running around, plates and plates of food only half eaten, nowhere to sit. This place is crazy.
