What? An AYCE Buffet that actually cares about quality? Amazing. Just about everything I ate was very good. I had mash potatoes and beef gravy, battered shrimp, coconut shrimp, salmon, fried chicken, roast beef, roast chicken, ham, scone (with honey butter, yum), roll (with cinnamon hone butter, yum), clam chowder, horchata. All were enjoyable. Well, the roast beef was a bit dry and a tad tough, the salmon was slightly overcooked (as expected) but was acceptable and a nice addition to their menu. The apple crisp was good as was the lava cake and rice pudding. Even the fries were good. I am impressed how good everything was. The service was very nice. They clear your table of dirty dishes and offer to get you refills of drinks. When you pay at the beginning, ask for some cash to tip them. If you forget, you can run your card again and get some cash to leave a tip on the table. They were very pleasant and even when passing you by, they smile. It was a nice restaurant, very comfortable. I had a booth. The tables are nice and conducive to large parties. My favorite AYCE restaurant so far! 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. My family was excited to try the new breakfast buffet . We went on a Saturday & got right in . The serving area was clean . We were disappointed when most of the hot food was gone. We asked them for biscuits . They brought them out after we waited 10 mins & they apologized. They were super fresh & good but then they were out of gravy for the biscuits . They would bring out 5 pancakes at a time . Of course those would get taken really fast . They have several items to choose from but the kitchen could not keep up with the demand . Only good thing was everything was fresh because it would get taken so fast . People were standing around waiting for the kitchen to bring out food . So yeah we moved here a few years ago and thought this was the silliest name for a buffet and assumed it would be lame. But we were bored one night and decided to try it. Boy were we wrong! Looked forward to corned beef and cabbage for St Patrick's Day. Asked if they had it before paying and was told they did. Got over to the carving station and they had run out. At 6:00 at night. Asked for a manager. Fifteen minutes went by and no manager. Asked again and the hostess said, oh he saw you had started eating, by this time my wife was nearly done with her meal, so he didn't bother coming to our table. Not acceptable. Very rude. Wow! I honestly don't think I've ever been to a chuck a Rama before, and I don't know why I haven't up until this point. I guess I just always assumed it was just like a Golden Corral (which isn't a bad thing, but just not something I'd go out o my way for). I was sorely mistaken. First off, the interior is extremely nice. It has the feel of a nice restaurant, rather than just a Buffett. The food selection was a little smaller than I'd expected, but the quality made up for it. Everything I tried tasted like something that wouldn't be out of place on a regular restaurant menu. What was honestly the biggest surprise to me was the fact that they have an Icee machine! We love Chucks in Draper mostly for the fresh salads. The other food is pretty good. But I crave the salad the most! The costomer service is great when they aren't slammed. The majority of the time they are super attentive! The price isn't bad on the weekdays. you'll pay a higher price on the weekends but you'll get ham and roast beef and turkey roast that you don't get on the weekdays. However, they do serve them in the evening but that also cost more. The customers range from retired people to families. A lot of workers come in for lunch. I've been to the Ogden, downtown, Murray, St. George and Draper locations. This location is popular because the service and food is good and the buffet and bathrooms are kept clean. Servers are great. There was one Korean gal server that was here in Draper for years but now shes gone. She was so friendly!! Servers are on top of clearing plates. At Chuck A Rama, I always like acine de peppe salad, kale salad, peaches, green jello. Other options kettle chicken, fiesta soup, fried chicken, scone drenched in butter, ice cream, rice pudding, hot chocolate, lasagna. Their French fries and mashed potatoes are the best tasting. It is spacious and usually accommodates the clientele, excepting busy lunch times, local holidays, etc. I enjoy their salad and soup bars first. They usually include several salads that I have enjoyed all my life, i.e. "frogs eye, carrot, & green varieties. Then, I love their mashed potatoes with gravy!! I also enjoy the quality of the vegetables that they offer: corn, peas, green beans! Their French Fried potatoes are very good as is their fry sauce. Chuck A Rama has definitely changed things for the better! Every other table is empty throughout the restaurant and everyone keeps socially distant from each other! Every time you go to get something new to eat you have to use hand sanitizer AND get new gloves. After two trips to the buffet, we realized you only need one glove on the hand you serve your food with, the other hand holds your plate!! I LOVE that Kids under 12 need to be supervised with an attending adult! The only thing we noticed was that the food trays are large and with the smaller amount of people eating the food doesn't change over often and some items dried out a little. My family and I really like the atmosphere at Chuck-A-Rama! It is a quaint little buffet, with all the selection that you would expect and more. Atmosphere: (7/10) This place has a rustic home style vibe, that matches the food selection. The walls are adorned with different farm-themed items and an assortment of rooster decorations that match the wallpaper. The restaurant itself is nestled in the middle of a bustling business complex, with a variety of different companies and other restaurants vying for business. Because of its location, it's quite the juxtaposition when you walk into the restaurant and step back in time. Sunday's seem to be the some of the busiest days because oF the many families that share Sunday dinner here after church. That is one of the reasons we like it here. I think that the food area could be arranged more efficiently, but it's not too bad nAvigating to your favorite dish. Food/Taste: (8/10) Today the selection seemed pretty good and everything was looking quite appetizing. The food selection always seems to be pretty much the same, but today there was a pretty awesome beef stew that was almost literally melt in your mouth, tender. With that said, I don't know how much the menu varies, but if it does, it's only a few items. The rest of the food was good, but basically what one would expect at a buffet. One of my favorite things is their drink selection. Their horchata is super good and they have a frothy orange drink that reminds me of an orange julius, just not frozen. Overall, the food is pretty good. Experience: (8/10) We always have a pretty good experience here, with the exception of one dependable negative experience. Without fail, the meat station always seems to be manned by someone who looks and acts like they don't want to be there. When the customer asks for some slice of meat, they basically shrug and slice off a sliver of meat and you have to ask for more to get a decent serving. Many times, the meat station isn't even attended to, or, like today, they are chatting with someone and it cause the customer to feel like an inconvenience to request their service. Whew! Now that I got that off my chest, the experience is still an 8 out of 10. The person who took our order was great and that is how it generally has been every time we have gone. The waiter is also always really nice. I know this depends on the day and person, but we have had a pretty predictably good experience every time we have gone. Another positive note, and part of the reason we like to come is the cleanliness. It's always well-kept and it's noticeable that the staff is constantly cleaning, whether it's clearing and cleanness tables or vacuuming around tables. You also see them cleaning around the food area pretty consistently. I know this should be the industry standard, but it's worth mentioning that they are good about it. Price: (9/10) I will be posting a picture of the pricing structure, so I won't mention too much here. To say the food is mediocre would be generous. There are great quantities of food, but little quality to speak of. Customer service is also bad. There is no apparent order to how you are seated and the man who controls the seating is especially rude. (And last time there was a very rude server who belittled our party to another table.) I get suckered into eating here every year by an elderly relative (to be fair--he loves it because he can get lots of soft, easy to chew food choices). The only thing good today was the chicken. Everything else was bland and hard. The garlic bread is like croutons almost every time I come. The ice changed to the cubed instead of crushed! We can here this time with a wedding party. We were in the banquet room. They did have a sign up in one area stating that it was a private party. But the open doors from the buffet didn't have a sign. So we had people come in and sit with us. We had to have them leave after they had started eating. That wasn't super fun. The food was decent. But honestly there wasn't as much variety as I was expecting. It was taco night so the entire center food serving area was Mexican stuff. It took a lot of coyotes away. But what we did eat was ok. The dessert was just ok. Not great. The apple crisp was delicious but the brownies were dry. And so was the carrot cake. I still love Chuck a Rama and I know I'll be back.
