Chubbfathers is one of my favorite joints in the entire Birmingham and surrounding areas! It's a must if you're visiting or looking for a new favorite spot. Recently I brought my foodie brother, visiting from Louisiana. He was blown away with the buffalo chicken cheese fries (my favorite) and the fried shrimp. Love their food but for a working man ordering the wings I can't afford 2.25& for one wing. When you order a pound of wings you , most of the time you get 6. That's 2.25 a wing. Get 8 it goes down to 1.85. It's better to get the 4 wings on menu. read more

OMG .......warning this place may cause a food coma in a good way. Everything we tried was delicious. Very friendly, the GM, Jackie, stopped by our table to chat and told us all about the food and brought us a few samples of their house made sauces. A large party had come in shortly before me, so it took about 30 minutes to get the food, which was quite a wait for a burger. I ordered the zydeco burger, which had an onion ring, bacon and a Cajun sauce. It was a solid burger; the flavors combined well, although I didn't care too much for the cornmeal battered onion ring. I had loaded potato salad on the side, which was made with a sour cream base. It was also tasty. Previous review: Great seafood at a reasonable price in a self-service atmosphere. I had the Grilled Mahi-mahi and my wife had the Greek style crab claws. Seafood was expertly prepared, very flavorful. Sides (rice pilaf, green beans, cole slaw) were good but not particularly distinctive. Nice hush puppies. Prices are reasonable considering the quality of the food, but the food is served on styrofoam plates with plastic utensils and foam cups. Order at the front and take a number to your table. Fill your drinks yourself. If you're just after some great seafood, or want it to go, it is a great place. read more

I like to be supportive of locally-owned businesses. This one is a very plain, casual seafood restaurant in Alabaster. We found the food to be a fair value. When we got popcorn shrimp, it was fresh and just out of the kitchen, delivered by the chef (owner) himself. The fries were a bit salty for my taste, but I think you could just request unseasoned when you order them. They were good with the proper crispness; properly drained. Hush puppies were fine. On our next visit we got fried jumbo shrimp. The shrimp were greasy and tough; the breading just sloughed off in the plate. Maybe grilled is the way to go. Fries were not crisp, but they did leave off the salt, as requested. Cole slaw was okay. The owner and the front counter person were extremely friendly and checked on us numerous times. read more

When walking in it isn't anything too extravagant (that's fine) and gives me a "hole in the wall" vibe. They operate in a fast casual system and the service was very prompt through the entire meal. We started with the fried pickles and they were very solid and tasty. I decided on the Zydeco burger with okra for my main course. The burger was very good and deserves the positive attention received. I feel like I had super high expectations and they fell just short. The meat was cooked very well but the array of toppings on the burgers didn't meld together to create one unified experience like I have had before. On my list of places to try and I wanted some seafood after my doctors appointment. I ordered the Shrimp Platter grilled w/ okra and sweet potato fries. The okra and sweet potato fries were amazing the shrimp had a really awkward taste reminded me of metal or something. I should've gotten them fried maybe. I dunno but I wouldn't get them grilled again. I didn't try my hushpuppies. They had an amazing selection of sweets and I wanted to try them all but didn't and this was mostly because I didn't notice them until I had already swiped my card. I will definitely next time. I've been seeing a ton of great reviews for this place and was in the area and decided to give it a shot. Large menu (see below) with tons of options for just about anyone. Really casual environment. Nothing fancy about this place but don't let it fool you the food packs a flavorful punch that ranks up there with some of the best in the greater Birmingham area. A little on-line exploring after the dining experience revealed a pretty cool story behind the restaurant (you should check the whole story out if you get a chance), but the coolest part of the story has to be the Feed the People initiative that brings food to locals in need. The owner started a Feed the People initiative where customers can bring in two non-perishable food items and receive a free drink. On the 15th time they do that, they get a free meal. But, if that isn't enough they do their best to match all donation and find a local charity to drop these items off at. Really awesome to see people trying to help the local community! This alone is a great reason to support Chubbfathers! Appetizers Salads come with choice of Ranch, Italian, Honey Mustard, Bleu Cheese, Gringo Vinaigrette or Caesar and meat topping (Steak, chicken, shrimp, salmon and fish). Burgers (this is what I went with) : Zydeco (single) 1/3 lb. cheeseburger, 1 onion rings, 2 slices of bacon, Cajun horseradish sauce, lettuce, and tomato and comes with one side ($9.50) They also have a great selection of sandwiches, Po' Boys (Served on French bread with mayo (Cajun horseradish can be subbed), lettuce, tomato, and pickles. Po' Boys are served with one side) Seafood All plates served with a lemon wedge, your choice or two side items, and two hush puppies. Orders can be prepared grilled, fried, or blackened. They also have wings, children's plates, tacos, as well as regular and premium sides. If you're in the area you should really do yourself a favor and give them a shot. I really think the burger qualifies as a top five in the Birmingham area. If you aren't in the area take a little road drive and support a local company that is heling the community. read more
