A couple years ago I decided to try and become at least a semi-professional artist/illustrator and was having a difficult time finding a shop that could capture and print my drawings to the degree of quality I required. Upon another shop's recommendation, I went to Chrome and I have never looked anywhere else. Not only are their digital capture and printing capabilities absolutely first-rate, their customer service is even better! In an age where companies simply don't care about the customer experience, Chrome Digital goes above and beyond to make sure every order is done right. The very first time I went to Chrome I asked James what will happen if I'm not happy with my order and he said "We'll work with you until it's right." These guys are absolute pros and also some of the coolest, nicest people I've ever met. Don't waste your time anywhere else. If I could leave a 10 Star review I would. The guys working here are a bunch of literal god damn angels from heaven. They sized and printed all my shit last minuet for an art show after an online company I ordered prints from fucked them up. They were super fast, professional, knowledgeable, patient and just really nice about the last minute request they also gave me an awesome price, better than anyone else I've seen. More importantly, while I was working on the project some creepy ass hole came in whispering about wanting to print nudes of his ex girl friend. The owner asked if she was 18 and if he had a consent form with A copy of her ID for the photos, (totally standard procedure for nudes in a professional setting) the guy lost it and started to throw a fit about him asking for verification that the photos were obtained with consent, I mean really lost, it was insane. the owner was such a fucking prince and went off on the guy for being a total fucking creep and threw him out, afterwards the owner even Apologized to me for having to hear them argue. As a women knowing there are still men out there being decent and calling out dudes on being creepy fucking ass holes warms my cold dead heart. 10/10 will go here forever for that level of human decency alone. read more

I had high hopes for Chrome. I've heard good things, and assumed this was the one stop shop for anything film related. I thought i would pay a premium, but get what I pay for. I had a stack of old 35mm film negatives to scan for a photo book project I wanted to create for a family member. I did their basic scan, which Sam explained to me was more than enough resolution to get excellent quality prints back for my purposes. These were $0.65 per scan. What I got back were very low resolution, most were littered with dust and debris. Many of the scans had terrible color reproduction, and/or had blown out highlights, lost details, and worse: some of the scans weren't even aligned properly. Images were cropped haphazardly, missing portions of the negative. Final images were slanted and skewed. And worse again: two out of 24 scans were stretched and very visibly warped. This was a truly bad experience, and fewer than half the scans are usable. I waited 4 days for this terrible service. I took this same stack of scans to Costco Photo (on Morena Blvd), and had them scan them. Their scans cost $0.29 per scan, are greater than double the resolution, were aligned correctly, color balanced, dust free, and looked great. It cost me less than half the total cost, and I got back magnificently higher quality scans the very same day I brought them in. I'm really shocked by just how terrible this service was at Chrome. To top it all off, my name AND phone number was entered into their computer system incorrectly, and I had to wait more than 10 minutes while the person working there that Saturday was frantically searching for my negatives and DVD with scans. He couldn't find them. They had been misplaced, and he couldn't find me in the computer, and it was a disaster from start to finish. Everything was terrible. Even parking was terrible. I thought the parking lot attached to the building was a Chrome parking lot, but I learned it was NOT a parking lot for Chrome when the owner of the business next door came out and aggressively hustled me out of his parking lot (even though it was completely empty on this Saturday morning at 10am). I do not have a single nice thing to say about my Chrome experience, and probably wouldn't return there. I will ship out film to the opposite side of the country to avoid this level of service. For the record: I hate writing polarized reviews. I hate being the guy that either gives 5 stars or 1 star, and nothing in between. But this was just crap. It was a joke. read more

Most recently I messed up what size prints I needed and was on a really tight deadline and James rushed corrections for me without making me feel bad for my mistake at all! Amazing! Our print came out so beautiful. We called and spoke to almost every person there because this was the first time I've ever printed anything like this before. We wanted a 24 x 36 print of our photograph to submit for an art exhibit, and I had a bunch of questions, every person I talked to was so helpful and even called us if there was any issues with the original. Chrome Digital is truly a professional imaging lab, and real pro labs are harder and harder to find in these days of do it youself digital. They have been processing E-6 transparency film for me since the 80's, when fashion photographers would come to San Diego from all over the world to shoot beautiful models and high fashion clothing for all of the fashion books. Chrome was the E-6 pro lab of choice for famous photographers who had invested tens of thousands of dollars in crews, models, props and travel....in those days if the film wasn't perfectly processed the whole investment could be lost. I shoot large format 8"x10" Fuji Velvia transparency film of landscapes at a considerable cost for both film and processing and fill very lucky to have Chrome's unique service here in my hometown of San Diego. read more

Have been to Chrome several times. A few times to ask questions and a few times to collect prints. The prints were top notch, I had some large dimension photos printed and a matte photo mounted to ultracore. The quality is fantastic. The other times I have been in there to ask questions the team are always very helpful. As mentioned in some other reviews they probably aren't the cheapest shop in town but the price difference is minimal and you really do get what you pay for and I'm happy to pay for these guys. Chrome are good at what they do so in turn always seem to be very busy, that's a good sign if they have a lot of customers. Plan ahead, get in early and give them plenty of turnaround time for specialty projects. The dog at the shop is also friendly and likes a scratch behind the ear :) read more

My wife referred me to Chrome Digital to get a few pics blown up for Father's Day. Something happened with my navigation and I ended up showing up at 4:45 when they close at 5:00. Danny Ramirez was able to get my pics from email... look them over blow them up... made suggestions for a much clearer image and ultimately had me in and out with exactly what I wanted and more by 5:15. Not that it was rushed by I knew what I wanted and he got me what I wanted to ensure my Father's Day gifts would be a hit. He had my prints ready the next day for pickup and the results were amazing. Sent three 120/220 films for E6 developing. Took two weeks to get my film back. They have low price tags for "developing", e.g., $5.5 for 120 and $ for 220 E6 processing. However, for the three film strips they sent back via UPS ground, they charged $15 on my card, calling it "shipping fee". This is insane! read more

Friendly staff, answered all my questions over the phone. Had a digital scan of my 16x20 oil painting. Was a little worried leaving it for a week, but I was assured it would come back safer than when I brought it in. I picked up after a week and my painting was lovingly wrapped in paper and plastic.
