The salon is very trendy and gorgeous. It is also very busy and can be a bit overstimulating since their stations are pretty close together in an open area concept. For the hundreds of dollars I spent a on a color, highlight and cut, I expected really good service. I had color all over my forehead and both cheeks. When I asked about the large circle on my forehead, I was handed a color off wipe so I could wipe the color off myself. Although the mark was more of a slight chemical burn. The stylist had completely forgot I booked a haircut until halfway through foils , so she did a quick dry cut after drying my hair before styling. I was there for about 5 hours and I left with a light shade of blonde in the back of my hair and a darker Caramel color in the front . When I got home I noticed I had some bleach bleeds in the back (she did not show me the back once) I showed photo and said I like ashy blonde and they toned me with 8G an 9NW - which means my hair was very gold/Carmel aka a tad orange. I don't mean to drag anyone in this review, but I want to be honest. There is nothing worse than spending a ton of money then go home and fix your hair, luckily in another life I worked as a hairdresser and am able to fix my hair , but not everyone can. read more

I visited chromatique after being referred several times specifically for their blonding services and abilities. The stylist I saw advertised herself as blonde specialist and "exact cut" so considering I wanted to be significantly blonder and taking 10inches off into a bob I went to her. My appointment was canceled and rescheduled 1 hour before it was supposed to begin but she was able to take me the next day so I accepted. The experience was off from the start and I could tell just from the way she spoke to me she did not want to be there and did not care to have conversation. My full highlight was sparse and only left on for 15 min...so I'm left with dark blonde hair, uneven and chunky highlights and nothing I asked for. I asked for a bright money piece and Scandinavian hairline which she nodded yes to but then continued to blend into the rest of my hair. When it came time for toner, which they call gloss, I asked what she was applying and said they always do a gloss - not sharing that it's another $45. I have never had a bleaching service without toner being included as it is part of the blonding process? I'm assuming she was attempting a root tap at the end but actually painted on about an inch of uneven "roots" so my freshly done hair actually looks 3 months old. I've reached out to the salon before posting this and received nothing but marketing about the "Seahawks dancers" they provide service to which shows where their priorities truly lie. I have been going to Chromatique for at least 5 years. I love the Bellevue location because parking is validated and the salon itself is very cute and modern. The staff is always nice upon arrival and offer a beverage. I have seen several hairstylists from Junior level to Master and have been consistently impressed with the quality. One thing I appreciate is they all do the hair curling with the same technique so it looks very consistent. They also save your gloss color so if you have a different stylist, they can go in the records and see what the previous one used. I would say it's expensive but comparable to other salon prices of this quality in the area. Very happy customer! read more

The salon then turned on me and blamed me that I didn't communicate what I wanted and demanded full payment for zero services rendered. they were rude , unprofessional and very threatening. Booked a senior stylist for a bleach and tone 6 weeks ago, and left with a patchy mess after 6 hours in the chair, despite having virgin hair that lifted great. Called to express dissatisfaction, and the senior stylist fixed it at no charge. Was happy when I left after the redo, so decided to book again with the same stylist to get my roots touched up. Had that appointment today, and the stylist had to fix my shadow root toner twice because it was obviously patchy. After $200 and 3 hours, I still left with a patchy shadow root. Everyone was super nice throughout all of my visits, but at this price point I'm never coming back. read more

MELISSA is the stylist of my dreams. During my first visit, I showed up with my brassy, uneven colored "balayage" asking her to fix it. But before anything else, Melissa asked what my hair goals are after this toner. She went on to explain that knowing what I wanted my hair to eventually look like would help determine how light or dark my toner should be. I pulled out a picture and showed her my hair vision; a low maintenance balayage that looks good with my naturally stick straight hair... with a warm brown that isn't so "mousy." Fast forward to my second visit, my balayage was exactly what I wanted, a softly painted teasy-highlights with a warm yet vibrant brown for dimension. If you get anything under the highest level stylist be very warned. They are not trained well. Not like I don't like color more .... like burn scalp, leave dye in your hair after its dried, dye stain on my face, and make shades off of desired look. My hair was strawberry blonde. I did not want changes other than gray roots. She colored my roots black and had spots of vibrant fire red. She took 3 hrs to ruin my roots. I heard she had to "fix " it during process with her mentioning she was applying another toner. She had plenty of co workers she could have ask opinion. But instead she guessed. She had chair turned so I couldn't see myself until last 3 mins. Then for the redo appt she semi fixed but burned scalp in process. The stylist was very apologetic and nice. Im more upset for salon. Train ppl better. And salon should let u make sure the redo appt you get choice of mentor with previous stylist / or new person. Its not really fair to give you same person who made the original mistake. And when theres a mistake have salon actually contact you. Feels very ignored and nnot valued as a client when u get no acknowledgement from them at all. No compensation for time and money. I spent hundred + to spend 7 hrs on so so fixed hair with burned scalp. Never going again. read more

She said it was totally doable. I came back and she did Foilayage on my hair and I loved it. Aretas is super sweet and genuinely cares about your hair and it's health. Efffffffff this place. I booked a week ago, using their online system, for a cut and color. The online system is hella clunky and does not in any way attempt to define what services you are booking. I made a three hour round trip drive to come to this salon, only for them to tell me they couldn't do what I was asking for in the time window that I'd booked. It was fully explained to me why what I wanted couldn't be done in the two hours that they'd allotted to me. Why isn't there a systemic/process step for them to call me and confirm what I'm asking for so that my appointment is appropriately scheduled? They did not charge me for leaving without services, because they 100% recognized that the problem is a systemic one on their end. But still I am so so disappointed. I've been waiting 4 years for *this* cut and color--post pandemic, post breast cancer battle, and they didn't give a f. I can't reschedule anytime in the near future so I'm just outta luck because their shop allows for zero wiggle room to help clients navigate their messed up system. Eff this place. I haven't been into see Samantha, Elle and all for 105 days. My hair has really missed them. BUT, I did get two color kits and I had an absolute blast doing the FaceTime with Sam. It was hysterical. I made her promise not to show the video. I had foil, Saran Wrap and extra towels and one of my son's old t-shirts on. Not only was the color a success but it offered me a chance to have a blast. In January I decided to get hair extensions. I had tried it once before but I couldn't sleep with them. Elle has a new way to put them in. I couldn't believe how easy they were and comfortable. Washing was easy and drying took longer than usual but I loved them. Fast forward to the lock-down. After 3 weeks I needed to take care of my roots. Sam made sure that I didn't hurt the extensions. After 2 and a half months, the extensions had moved about 2" down as my hair grew. I had to do something. I got my embroidery scissors. I got as many mirrors as I could find. I started with the lower layer. Very carefully I found the thread that needed to be cut and then worked the "thingy" lose. It was slow and not a perfect job by me. And I did it by myself. Two things surprised me. One is that I didn't do much damage and the second is that I had an epic hair cut. Without the extensions, my hair had been cut so that it had a great style. This is after over 3 months. My husband loves how Chromatique does my hair. He goes there now. This is a man who prided himself that for 40+ years he hasn't paid more than $20 including tip. Since I pay for his cuts, he can still make that claim. I am including a photo of me with extensions, one with the extensions I removed and my hair I removed and my current haircut. Hiding my face in the last one. I seriously need major facials. I am celebrating that small businesses in King County are getting to start opening. SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESSES. They are doing their very best. Thank the UPS driver, the postman, the grocery clerk and everyone you run into. I've been going to Chromatique for years and absolutely love it. I see Jenni, who is so incredibly talented, and have referred a few friends to see her (who all love her, too!). Asian hair is so different, so it's important to have a stylist who knows how to work with Asian hair textures. She also cuts my daughters' hair, which I know is a bit of an indulgence for 7- and 4-year olds, but I have seen too many awful haircuts from kiddo salons, so it's worth every penny to see Jenni (heh, I'm a poet).
