I had a terrible experience at this salon in terms of the hair cutting experience and the customer service afterwards. I had a hairdresser that was talking inappropriately the whole time and taking forever drying my hair, so I said that I will just let my hair air dry and wanted to leave. He proceeded to lecture me for 20 minutes saying he didn't care if I came back and he didn't care if I wanted to make him happy, he will make himself happy. I told the receptionist and called back wanting a refund as I have no interest in going back to this salon to fix my cut. I had to call back several times, and finally another gentleman hung up on me. I was not emotional or rude on the phone just stating the facts. read more

Ive had good service there a long time ago, maybe 12 years ago... But recently I went back and my hair got cut extremely short when I asked to keep my length (long), and only chop off a few inches. It turned from a long haircut to a short one, almost a bob. I was shocked. Never in my life have I gotten a haircut this short, even accidentally slightly shorter has never turned into this. I asked politely if they could do extensions to fix and they told me no, because they said I consented to my length when they gave me an in-depth consultation (which I let them describe best for my face shape without disagreeing that that may be best for me, and I was fine with the layers they wanted to put in, etc. - but not once did I agree to a haircut this short, and in fact stated I wanted to keep it long). My hair was below my chest. Now its at my shoulders. They folded up my hair to show me length prior and I said no, still too short, I need more length. That was the end of the discussion and I couldnt see how short it was getting snipped from behind my back - I just trusted she understood my only request was to keep it long. Now I cant even put my hair in a normal high pony like I usually do, no hair clip because that falls out too, no braids... none of my usual hairstyles, only a small low pony. I feel extremely uncomfortable and self conscious, lost all of my confidence and don't feel like myself. I talked to her again and asked for help and she said I can pay another stylist 200/hr plus cost of extensions to fix it, insisting she told me the length she thought was best for me, while ignoring and not acknowledging that I told her I wanted differently. She told me the salon would not cover it and that she won't pay for it. I'm pretty shocked and upset that no one is taking accountability. She even admitted during the session when I said "wow this is too short" that she should've checked with me before cutting - but now talking with her afterwards she's saying I consented to everything which is a lie. read more

I came into Salon 8 for a blowout for a weekend filled with wedding events. I have 2C curls, so generally wavy hair with some ringlets. I was really surprised that the stylist barely rinsed my hair with the shampoo and conditioner. I didn't think too much of it but when it came time to start the blowout, she dried my hair 100% with a blow dryer and then used the blow dryer to shape it to be straight. There was a lot more frizz because of this. Overall, I wasn't happy with my blowout but I was at-least able to quickly fix things on my own with some heat styling tools after my appt. read more

This was supposed to be a color and partial foil. What colorist who has a clue what they are doing starts the highlights three inches from the roots?! I have highlights so the grey won't show when it comes in and told the stylist that! They said they'd fix it but I won't have time for a week and it will be super hard on my hair which is already dry from the bleaching. Also she was supposed to match my hair color and it's way darker. Even the highlights are so overdone it looks like I'm a blond! read more

I applied to 8 a couple weeks ago and I was so disgusted with how the owners wife handled the interview. She had a lot to say about monica (previous owner) which I thought was VERY unprofessional and distasteful. She also mentioned verbatim " The last mom we hired didn't last 2 weeks " which was also very weird and awkward for me. I've been going to her since 2020, and not only does she consistently do an amazing job, but she has also completely transformed the health of my hair. I only allow CRUZ to actually touch my hair so I am very biased towards her perfect skills :) but I have seen many of the stylists' works and I would basically trust any of them as a backup ! I am always wondering about employee satisfaction and at Salon 8 there is ongoing consistency. I think I have been going to Cruz for about 2 years. At one point, I went once a week for a shampoo and a blowout. I came to believe that the employees at this Salon are cared for. I hope they are. I have not asked any of them specifically so it is an assumption based on the high quality of all the interactions I have witnessed. Also: The vibe is great and the furniture is supreme! Have gone to Salon 8 a bunch of times and have always loved my experience there. Got a trim and highlights done by Rebekah recently and she did a great job and delivered exactly what I'd asked! What I especially appreciate was that when I came back a week later because I wanted the highlights darker, they were so accommodating. Rebekah spent time to understand what changes I wanted. She then touched up the color and treated my hair with a mask. I was expecting to be charged for this (since I was the one who changed my mind) but they insisted that everything was complimentary. I have followed Chelsea to each salon she has been at for the last 20 years. Not only has she cut & colored my hair, she gave my 18 year old son his 1st haircut and he has refused to have anyone else cut his hair since. We live in LA now and we both fly up to see Chelsea every 8 - 10 weeks or so. She is not a one and done kind of hairdresser. She really takes the time to get to know her clients so she can guide them on not only what looks best on them but their lifestyle. There are so many adjectives to describe Chelsea.....talented, experienced, artistic, evolving, adaptable, born to make to make you love your hair but the one that describes her best is she has the most beautiful heart. This review is of the paid apprenticeship program at Salon 8. My 20-year-old daughter took part in this program for 3 weeks before she was told she too reserved, wasn't making as much progress as they'd like, and her style wasn't a good fit for their salon. While as an educator I hate to think that three weeks is long enough for someone to show full potential, I understand this not being a good fit for either party. My bigger issue is how she was treated by Salon 8. The constant criticism of her appearance seems antithetical to the purpose of the beauty industry as that purpose is to make people FEEL beautiful. Instead, you told her hair needed changed. You colored and cut it, then came back and told her it "didn't suit her face," so you cut it again, giving her uneven, chunky layers. That wasn't good enough either, so you told her to color it again at her own expense, which she did. Then you told her she needed to diversify her wardrobe because you didn't like her style, which she immediately did, despite my reluctance for her to change to fit your standards of beauty. After that, you told her she didn't style her hair good enough when she came to work. In short, nothing she did pleased your establishment and the constant criticism took a toll on her self-esteem. While I think feedback can be a good thing, criticism without clear instructions and guidelines for improvement is not productive. That said, I'm glad she's no longer a part of this program but would caution anyone considering entering into this apprenticeship to seriously weigh all of their options. And as a reminder beauty is subjective and takes many forms. It might be hooves your establishment to remember that. read more

ROSEMARY IS A MIRACLE WORKER. Firstly, the salon itself is top tier in ambience and customer service, from the decor to the warm and welcoming staff at the front desk. You can hardly believe you've just left the mall to enter a salon! I got my cut done by Rosemary, and right out of the gate she was SO kind and welcoming, while giving that sense of security in your ability to trust her scissors completely with your hair. I showed her a picture (or 6) and expressed what I was hoping for, and she helped me see my vision turned to reality, as well as providing professional insight into what could flatter my features specifically. She then turned my hair into an absolute dream. I've always been scared to layer my hair because of how it might turn out and how some of my friends' have in the past, but after my cut I could hardly believe I'd gone my life without feeling the confidence in my hair I now do. Safe to say I am in LOVE, and wouldn't trust my hair in any other hands.
